ObjectiveBiochemistry and Molecular Biology, a discipline that elucidates life phenomena at the molecular level, serves as a core foundational course in medical education. It provides the theoretical basis for studying other basic and clinical medical subjects, as well as for understanding pathogenesis, disease diagnosis, and treatment. However, its complex content and highly abstract concepts have posed a dual challenge to traditional teaching models: “inefficient instruction” and “inadequate learning outcomes”. Within limited classroom hours, how to engage students and stimulate their intrinsic motivation, and how to help them recognize, understand, and develop a passion for biochemistry from the perspective of the discipline’s essence, have long been key focuses of curriculum research. MethodsUsing the lipid metabolism chapter as an example, this study employs “Rain Classroom”, a generative artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted platform, to support education in four dimensions: teaching, learning, evaluation, and research. In teaching, it assists instructors through virtual experiments, lesson preparation support, knowledge mapping, and assignment design. For learning, it serves as an intelligent study assistant for students, providing automated assignment review, enabling educational resource sharing, and facilitating personalized learning pathways. In evaluation, the platform automates assignment grading, analyzes student performance data, and offers diagnostic feedback and teaching recommendations. In research, it aids educators in collecting and analyzing teaching data, as well as searching for and summarizing relevant literature. ResultsThe results indicate that an educational model integrating teacher-led instruction, student-centered learning, and generative AI assistance significantly enhances teaching quality, students’ self-directed learning abilities, and knowledge mastery. Furthermore, with the support of generative AI, curriculum-based ideological education—focusing on cutting-edge disciplinary advances and topical medical issues—helps cultivate students’ medical spirit of “honoring life and healing the wounded”, thereby fostering the establishment of appropriate professional values. Finally, while generative AI presents both opportunities and challenges for higher education, this study also analyzes potential risks in its teaching applications, emphasizing the need for both instructors and students to avoid over-reliance and to ensure that technological tools consistently serve the fundamental goals of education. ConclusionThis study demonstrates that integrating generative AI, specifically via the “Rain Classroom” platform, can effectively enhance biochemistry education. By supporting teaching, learning, evaluation, and research, this approach improves both educational effectiveness and student outcomes. It also facilitates the incorporation of cutting-edge knowledge and professional ethics, nurturing a patient-centered mindset. Additionally, the study addresses potential implementation risks to ensure that such technological tools remain aligned with the core purpose of education.

This article systematically reviews and examines the historical evolution of Bambusae Succus as a medicinal material, covering aspects such as nomenclature, origin, geographical distribution, harvesting and processing methods, quality assessment, therapeutic effects and indications, by consulting ancient herbal texts, medical compendia, and modern literature. The aim is to provide a reference for the development and utilization of famous classical formulas containing this herb. Research indicated that Bambusae Succus was first documented in the Shennong Bencaojing during the Han dynasty, with Zhuli being the standard name used throughout history, alongside aliases like Zhuzhi, Zhuyou and Huoquan. Historically, the primary source of Bambusae Succus has been Phyllostachys nigra var. henonis(Danzhu), although other species such as Pleioblastus amarus and Bambusa emeiensis have also been used medicinally. Ancient records predominantly noted its origin in Yizhou(present-day Chengdu and surrounding areas in Sichuan) and the Wuling region(between present-day Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi and Jiangxi provinces), while contemporary sources are mainly from regions south of the Yangtze River and southwestern China. Traditionally, Bambusae Succus was harvested from bamboo that had grown for exactly one year, today, it can be collected year-round without strict age requirements. Ancient preparation methods included direct fire roasting or dry distillation, whereas modern industrial production employs dry distillation, reflux extraction, and percolation. In terms of quality evaluation, ancient texts considered a sweet taste to be superior, while today, clarity and transparency are prioritized. Historically, Bambusae Succus was characterized as sweet and cold nature, targeting the lung and stomach meridians, with uses evolving from clearing heat and resolving phlegm to nourishing Yin, moistening dryness, and relaxing tendons and unblocking meridians. Modern descriptions classify it as sweet, bitter, and cold in nature, affecting the heart, liver, and lung meridians, with functions including clearing heat, resolving phlegm, and facilitating orifices. It is indicated for conditions such as stroke with phlegm confusion, lung heat with phlegm congestion, convulsions, epilepsy, excessive phlegm in febrile diseases, high fever with thirst, irritability during pregnancy, and tetanus, with more clearly defined applications. Based on the results of the research, it is recommended that when developing and utilizing famous classical formulas containing Bambusae Succus, the one-year-old Phyllostachys nigra var. Henonis, which has been highly praised throughout history, should be selected as the source material. Industrial production should adopt the dry distillation method. Furthermore, in-depth research should be conducted on the modern technological characterization of the traditional quality control indicator of sweet taste, and reasonable modern quality control standards should be established.

Objective:To investigate the characteristics of continuing medical education (CME) and continuing professional development (CPD) systems in China, the perceptions of health professionals regarding CME/CPD, and their views on the extent to which the current CME/CPD systems meet learning needs. Methods:A questionnaire survey method was employed. The Chinese version of the global CME/CPD questionnaire developed by the Association for Medical Education in Europe was used to conduct an online survey of 2 951 health professionals across 32 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government in mainland China from 2020 to 2021. The survey results were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and content analysis. Results:Among the 2 951 respondents, internal medicine practitioners accounted for the highest proportion (664, 22.50%), and 2 050 (69.47%) of the respondents were located in the eastern region. In the past 12 months, 1 489 (50.46%) respondents participated in 11-30 hours of CME/CPD, and 2 406 (81.53%) considered that the existing activities met their learning needs. There were statistically significant differences ( P<0.05) in the learning needs for CME/CPD, participation in educational training and interprofessional continuing education, and satisfaction with industry-supported CME/CPD among health professionals with different years of practice. Conclusions:Health professionals in China have a high level of participation in CME/CPD. There are differences in their familiarity and satisfaction with the current systems. It is recommended to enhance the promotion of the CME/CPD systems, optimize the teaching content, improve education quality, and strengthen commercial interest regulation. These will better meet the learning needs of health professionals and promote high-quality development in medical education.

Objective:To investigate the effect of ligation methods of inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) on preserving left colic artery (LCA) in laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer. Methods:The prospective randomized controlled study was conducted. The clinical data of 864 patients who underwent laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer at Renji Hospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine from January 2020 to December 2024 were selected. Patients were randomly divided into the low ligation group and high ligation group using a random number table. Patients of the low ligation group underwent laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer with preserving LCA by low ligation of IMA and apical lymph node dissection, and patients of the high ligation group underwent laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer with traditional high ligation of IMA. Observation indicators: (1) grouping of the enrolled patients; (2) intraoperative conditions; (3) postoperative pathological examination; (4) postoperative recovery. Comparison of measurement data with normal distribution between groups was conducted using the independent sample t test. Comparison of count data between groups was conducted using the chi-square test or Fisher exact probability. Comparison of ordinal data between groups was conducted using the non-parametric test. Results:(1) Grouping of the enrolled patients. A total of 864 patients with rectal cancer who underwent laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer were screened for eligibility, including 410 males and 454 females, aged (63±11)years. All 864 patients were randomly divided into the low ligation group and high ligation group, with 432 patients in each group. There was no significant difference in gender, age, body mass index, carcinoembryonic antigen, distance from tumor to anal margin, diabetes, hypertension, neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy, IMA subtypes and IMA length between the two groups ( P>0.05), ensuring comparability. (2) Intraoperative conditions. All patients of the two groups successfully completed surgery, with no errors in blood vessel ligation during operation or conversion to open surgery. There was a significant difference in time of IMA dissection between the low ligation group and high ligation group [(31±11)minutes vs. (28±9)minutes, t=4.39, P<0.05], and there was no significant difference in total operation time, volume of intra-operative blood loss or prophylactic stoma rate between the two groups ( P>0.05). (3) Postopera-tive pathological examination. There was a significant difference in the number of lymph node dissected between the low ligation group and high ligation group (1.8±1.4 vs. 1.5±1.4, t=2.51, P<0.05), and there was no significant difference in tumor diameter, the total number of lymph node dissected, total lymph node positive status, No.253 lymph node positive status, TNM staging between the two groups ( P>0.05). (4) Postoperative recovery. The time to postoperative first flatus and the number of anastomotic leakage of patients in the low ligation group were (74±22)hours and 16 cases, versus (78±20)hours and 31 cases in the high ligation group, respectively, showing significant differences in the above indicators between the two groups ( t=2.52, χ2=5.06, P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the time to postoperative initial liquid food intake, duration of post-operative hospital stay, duration of abdominal drainage tube indwelling, duration of anal tube indwelling, postoperative wound infection, pulmonary infection, intestinal obstruction, or urinary dysfunction between the two groups ( P>0.05). None of patients in the two groups had readmission or death during the postoperative 30 days. Conclusion:Low ligation of IMA in laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer can guide precise LCA preservation, which is beneficial for accelerating the recovery of intestinal function and reducing the incidence of anastomotic leakage.
