1.Development of Korean Standardized Heart Failure Registry: Experience From Integration of KorAHF and KorHF III

Heart failure (HF) prevalence and associated socio-economic costs have risen rapidly in Korea, creating urgent demand for a national, standardized prospective registry to support quality monitoring, outcome comparison, and real-world evidence. Standardized data definitions are essential for valid comparisons across studies and healthcare settings. We created a unified national HF cohort by integrating the two largest Korean registries, KorAHF (2011–2014;n=5,625) and KorHF III (2018–2023; n=7,351), yielding 12,976 hospitalized HF patients. Because heterogeneous variable definitions impeded direct comparisons, we implemented a harmonization pipeline across demographic, clinical, imaging, biomarker, therapeutic, and outcome domains, aligned with international standards and reinforced by systematic data quality checks.A multidisciplinary panel then conducted a structured decision process to produce the Korean HF Standard Dataset, a tiered and interoperable variable set spanning six domains: demographics, presentation at admission, in-hospital events and comorbidities, discharge status, outpatient follow-up, and readmission events. This integrated platform and standardized variables enable precise identification of HF patient phenotypes and prognostic factors, establishing an evidence-based foundation for disease management. This supports an analysis of temporal changes in treatment patterns and outcomes, generates data to inform future clinical practice guidelines, and provides a practical basis for planning large, continuous, prospective HF registries. Furthermore, it also facilitates pragmatic, registry-based randomized clinical trials and unmet-needs assessments that can guide national health policy. Establishing a foundation for future linkage with national health databases, this platform will allow for enhanced accuracy, comparability, and representativeness, powering quality improvement initiatives and population-level monitoring of Korea’s growing HF burden.
2.Clinical Utility of Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry for Thyroglobulin Measurement in Comparison with Immunoradiometric Assay and Chemiluminescence Microparticle Immunoassay

Background:
The liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was developed to overcome interference from thyroglobulin autoantibodies (TgAb); however, it has not yet been implemented in Korea. This study aimed to confirm the accuracy of LC-MS/MS compared to conventional methods and to identify its advantages in patients with thyroid carcinoma (TC).
Methods:
A total of 206 TC and 18 Hashimoto’s thyroiditis samples were collected. TgAb-positive (TgAb-P) was defined as TgAb >60 U/mL. Tg testing was performed using LC-MS/MS, immunoradiometric assay (Tg-IRMA), and chemiluminescence microparticle immunoassay (Tg-CMIA). The interference of TgAb in LC-MS/MS and CMIA methods was evaluated through an in vitro TgAb spiking experiment.
Results:
The frequency of TgAb-P in TC samples was 76.2%. Correlations between assays were as follows: Tg measurements made by LC-MS/MS (Tg-MS) and Tg-IRMA (R=0.93), Tg-MS and Tg-CMIA (R=0.96), and Tg-CMIA and Tg-IRMA (R=0.99), and it was lower in TgAb-P than TgAb-negative group. Clinical factors (total thyroidectomy, thyroid lobectomy, and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis) did not affect these correlations. In TgAb spiking experiments, Tg-CMIA showed false negatives in TgAb-P, whereas Tg-MS did not. Among 21 TC cases with highly suspicious disease recurrence but Tg-IRMA <1 ng/mL, Tg-MS detected Tg ≥0.5 ng/mL in six samples. However, there was no consistent pattern of recurrence or TgAb trends.
Conclusion
Correlations between assays were lower in TgAb-P cases. The spike test results show Tg-MS is less prone to false negatives in TgAb-P cases. Tg-MS may improve Tg detection in TgAb-P cases. However, we could not identify a distinct patient group with shared clinical features that would benefit from Tg-MS.

Objective:
The Scales for Outcomes in Parkinson’s Disease–Cognition (SCOPA-Cog) was developed to assess cognition in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). In this study, we aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the SCOPACog (K-SCOPA-Cog).
Methods:
We enrolled 129 PD patients with movement disorders from 31 clinics in South Korea. The original version of the SCOPA-Cog was translated into Korean using the translation-retranslation method. The test–retest method with an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach’s alpha coefficient were used to assess reliability. Spearman’s rank correlation analysis with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment-Korean version (MOCA-K) and the Korean Mini-Mental State Examination (K-MMSE) were used to assess concurrent validity.
Results:
The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.797, and the ICC was 0.887. Spearman’s rank correlation analysis revealed a significant correlation with the K-MMSE and MOCA-K scores (r = 0.546 and r = 0.683, respectively).
Conclusion
Our results demonstrate that the K-SCOPA-Cog has good reliability and validity.

Anatomical observation of these areas is challenging for learners due to their complex connections with surrounding structures and their deep location within the body. Since it is not easy to understand this area in three dimensions with only textbook images, there is a need to produce three-dimensional (3D) content. Most existing 3D data have reconstructed the digital imaging and communication in medicine files from computed tomography images with high accuracy; however, the surrounding structures often obstruct the view. For this reason, this project utilized Cinema4D (R18) software to refine the modeled bones and to create 3D models of muscles, blood vessels, and nerves that accurately represent their anatomical shapes and pathways. To facilitate easier access for learners via PC, the content was converted into PDF format. This enables the educational materials to be more easily viewed and the main structures more clearly observed using a computer-based viewer.

The hygiene hypothesis, first proposed in 1989, suggested that reduced exposure to infections in early life leads to allergic diseases by the defects in the establishment of immune tolerance. Although many studies provided evidence that some exposure conditions, including family size, antibiotics, probiotics, and viral or bacterial infections, are strongly related to the prevalence of allergic diseases, thereby supporting the hygiene hypothesis, some evidence does not provide acceptable results for the hygiene hypothesis. Further, most studies have focused on patients with asthma or atopic dermatitis, not allergic rhinitis. In this review, we summarize the recent studies for and against the ‘hygiene hypothesis’ and identify causal association with the prevalence of allergic rhinitis.
10.Relationship between Person-Centered Climate and Patient Satisfaction in Cancer Patients:The Mediating Effects of Patient Activation and Nurse Trust

Purpose:
This study evaluated whether patient activation and nurse trust mediate the relationship between a person-centered climate and patient satisfaction in cancer patients.
Methods:
A total of 179 participants, who were admitted in a tertiary hospital of J city, were surveyed in a cross-sectional study. Data were collected from March 1 to June 10, 2023. The descriptive statistics and mediating effects were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 25.0 and PROCESS macro program.
Results:
A person-centered climate directly affected patient satisfaction (direct effect=0.21, p<.001; direct effect=0.34, p<.001). Patient activation had a mediating effect between a person-centered climate and patient satisfaction (indirect effect=0.31, 95% Boot confidence interval=0.24~0.39). Nurse trust had a mediating effect between a person-centered climate and patient satisfaction (indirect effect=0.19, 95% Boot confidence interval=0.10~0.27).
Conclusion
This indicates the importance of developing a person-centered climate, patient activation and nurse trust to improve satisfaction for cancer patients. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the level of trust in nurses to improve and strengthen trust in them and to develop various program to focus on patient activation in cancer patients.
