Purpose: As nursing continues to advance through digital health, clinical specialization, and interdisciplinary research, early-career nurse scientists are central to advancing innovation. However, Korea lacks a structured platform to support their research, collaboration, and career development. This review aimed to identify the needs of early-career nurse scientists and examine international best practices to guide the creation of an effective communication platform. Methods: This study involved a secondary analysis of the final report from the project “Establishment of a communication platform for young nursing scientists,” carried out by the Korean Society of Nursing Science. The report comprises data from focus group interviews with domestic graduate students and early-career researchers, a literature review of international communication and support systems, and a global policy analysis related to young nursing scientists. Based on this report, the present review synthesizes key findings and draws implications for the development of a communication platform in Korea. Results: International examples, such as grant writing programs, mentoring initiatives, and digital collaboration hubs, showed positive outcomes in strengthening research capacity and promoting the professional growth of nurse scientists. Based on these findings, key considerations for platform development include: (1) establishing clear leadership and a participatory governance model; (2) providing demand-driven content such as research guides, mentoring, and mental health resources; (3) implementing mechanisms to ensure sustainability, content quality, and user data protection; and (4) designing an integrated platform that fosters synergy across research, policy development, education, and global networking. Conclusion A digital platform for early-career nurse scientists should function not merely as an information portal, but also as dynamic infrastructure for collaboration, mentorship, and growth. It is recommended that the Korean Society of Nursing Science spearhead this initiative, with governmental support, to enhance the research capacity and expand the global engagement of Korean nursing scientists.

Methods: From May to December, 2023, 452 people who were diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes at 9 participating public health centers were provided with customized health care services for 24 weeks, and 15 performance indicators were analyzed to evaluate their effectiveness. Results: Health behavior indicators and health risk factors decreased before and after participation in the project, blood pressure control rate, hypertension and diabetes management rate, medication compliance, weight, BMI, BP, WC, FBG, and HDL-cholesterol improved(p<0.001).Service factors that influence the improvement of health behaviors included the number of activity monitor transmissions(p=0.049), confirmed concentrated consultations on physical activity(p=0.003) and nutrition(p=0.005), and the adherence to medication missions for hypertension(p=0.020).As for service factors influencing chronic disease management, the improvement in blood pressure regulation rate was due to the number of times the blood pressure monitor was linked(p=0.004), and the number of confirmed intensive consultations on physical activity(p=0.026), and nutrition(p=0.049); the improvement in hypertension control rate was due to the number of times the activity monitor and blood pressure monitor were linked(p<0.001), and the number of hypertension medication missions carried out (p=0.004); and the improvement in diabetes control rate was due to the number of times the blood pressure monitor(p=0.022) and blood sugar system were linked(p=0.017). Conclusion Although this study has limitations as a comparative study before and after the service, it has proved that chronic disease management using ICT has a positive effect on improvement of health behavior indicator, reduction of health risk factors, hypertension, diabetes management index, weight, BMI, TG, BP, FBG improvement.

We aimed to investigate the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on admissions of patients with acute myocardial infarction, stroke, and severe trauma, and their excess mortality in emergency departments (EDs) in South Korea using registry data from the National Emergency Department Information System (NEDIS) for patients attending EDs of regional and local emergency medical centers. During the outbreak period of 2020, there were 350,698 ED visits, which was lower than the total in 2019 (392,627 visits).Multiple logistic regression revealed that, compared with 2019, there was significantly higher ED mortality rate during the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 (adjusted odds ratio, 1.10;95% confidence interval, 1.07–1.13). This finding implies that during the early outbreak period, people might have avoided seeking medical care even for acute and life-threatening conditions, or transfer times at the scene to the hospital arrival were delayed, or treatment for the patients in EDs were delayed.

Purpose: This phenomenological study aimed to comprehend the altered parenting experience of nurses during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.Method: Using a qualitative approach, the research design employed a phenomenological methodology. The participants were 6 nurses with elementary school-aged children. The nurses were employed in tertiary general hospitals, working on rotating shifts during the COVID-19 pandemic. In-depth interviews were conducted to collect individual data, which were then analyzed using Colaizzi phenomenological method. Results: Analyzing the collected data led to 178 significant results, from which 13 themes were derived. These 13 themes were further integrated into 5 distinct theme clusters: (1) struggling as a nurse-mom, (2) providing a supportive presence, (3) facing challenges in facilitating children's learning activities, (4) navigating parental roles in a chaotic situation, and (5) pursuing physical safety. These clusters were subsequently categorized into four overarching categories: “suffering,” which encompassed the themes of pressure of infection and providing a supportive presence, as well as “controlling,” “parenting,” and “seeking,” representing the remaining clusters, respectively. Conclusion The parenting experiences of shift nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic encompassed various aspects, including the challenges posed by the pressure of infection, the importance of providing a supportive presence, difficulties in managing children’s learning activities, navigating parental roles amid chaotic circumstances, and the pursuit of physical safety. These experiences significantly impact the stability of shift nurses’ caregiving abilities for both their patients and their children. Therefore, it is crucial to establish a comprehensive nationallevel care support system in times of disaster situations like the COVID-19 pandemic.

Immune status including the immune cells and cytokine profiles has been implicated in the development of endometriosis. In this study, we analyzed Th17 cells and IL-17A in peritoneal fluid (PF) and endometrial tissues of patients with (n=10) and without (n=26) endometriosis. Our study has shown increased Th17 cell population and IL-17A level in PF with endometriosis patients. To determine the roles of IL-17A and Th17 cells in the development of endometriosis, the effect of IL-17A, major cytokine of Th17, on endometrial cells isolated from endometriotic tissues was examined. Recombinant IL-17A promoted survival of endometrial cells accompanied by increased expression of anti-apoptotic genes, including Bcl-2 and MCL1, and the activation of ERK1/2 signaling. In addition, treatment of IL-17A to endometrial cells inhibited NK cell mediated cytotoxicity and induced HLA-G expression on endometrial cells. IL-17A also promoted migration of endometrial cells. Our data suggest that Th17 cells and IL-17A play critical roles in the development of endometriosis by promoting endometrial cell survival and conferring a resistance to NK cell cytotoxicity through the activation of ERK1/2 signaling. Targeting IL-17A has potential as a new strategy for the treatment of endometriosis.
