Objective:
To analyze the trends in incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province from 2016 to 2024, and to predict the incidence and mortality from 2025 to 2027, so as to provide the evidence for improving regional colorectal cancer prevention and control strategies.
Methods:
Data on incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer in Jinhua City from 2016 to 2024 were collected through the Zhejiang Chronic Disease Surveillance Information Management System. The crude incidence and crude mortality were calculated, and standardized using the data from the Sixth National Population Census in 2010. Trends in incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer from 2016 to 2024 were analyzed using the average annual percent change (AAPC). A grey Markov model was constructed to predict the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer from 2025 to 2027.
Results:
From 2016 to 2024, the crude incidence and standardized incidence of colorectal cancer in Jinhua City were 46.90/100 000 and 30.69/100 000, respectively, showing upward trends (AAPC=4.594% and 2.051%, both P<0.05). The crude mortality and standardized mortality were 17.47/100 000 and 10.36/100 000, respectively, and the trends were not statistically significant (both P>0.05). The standardized incidence and standardized mortality of colorectal cancer in males were higher than those in females (35.38/100 000 vs. 25.68/100 000, 11.96/100 000 vs. 8.57/100 000, both P<0.05). The crude incidence and crude mortality of colorectal cancer in the ≥80 years age group were the highest, at 220.04/100 000 and 186.86/100 000, respectively. From 2016 to 2024, the standardized incidence of colorectal cancer in males and females showed upward trends (AAPC=5.069% and 3.965%, both P<0.05), while the trends in standardized mortality were not statistically significant (all P>0.05). The crude incidence in the 70-<80 years age group showed an upward trend (AAPC=1.320%, P<0.05), and the crude mortality in the 40-<50 years age group showed a downward trend (AAPC=-3.756%, P<0.05). Trends in other age groups were not statistically significant (all P>0.05). The prediction results of the grey Markov model showed that the predicted values of crude incidence and crude mortality of colorectal cancer in the whole population would increase from 58.20/100 000 and 20.04/100 000 in 2025 to 61.70/100 000 and 21.26/100 000 in 2027.
Conclusions
From 2016 to 2024, the incidence of colorectal cancer in Jinhua City showed upward trends, while the mortality trend was stable. Males and the elderly aged ≥80 years are high-risk populations for colorectal cancer incidence and mortality. It is predicted that both crude incidence and crude mortality will increase from 2025 to 2027.

Secondary organizing pneumonia after infection is a pathological condition characterized by connective tissue filling and obstructing the alveoli and bronchioles, in which following an infection in the lung, the inflammatory response is not controlled in a timely and effective manner. The pathogenesis and treatment of this condition can be interpreted through the Sanjiao membranous tube theory and the concept of stagnation within the pulmonary micro-membrane. Sanjiao is conceptualized as a four-way membranous tube that internally connects with the zangfu organs and externally with the skin and muscles, enabling the circulation of energy and fluids throughout the body. It also maintains communication with the zangfu micro-membranes. Within the lungs, the pulmonary micro-membrane is distributed and connected to the upper jiao membranous tube, facilitating the movement of qi and fluids and supporting nutrient distribution. External pathogens may invade the Sanjiao membranous system through the external membranous tube, travel internally along this system, and transform into latent pathogens that settle within the pulmonary micro-membrane. These latent pathogens can subsequently transform into heat or dampness, leading to the depletion of lung qi and impairing the lung′s ability to regulate and transport body fluids. Consequently, fluids may seep into the pulmonary micro-membrane, where they are transformed into dampness, turbidity, and phlegm. The accumulation of damp-turbidity and phlegm obstructs the flow of qi and blood, resulting in blood stasis in the pulmonary collaterals. This stagnation occurring within both the pulmonary micro-membrane and its associated collaterals underlies the development of secondary organizing pneumonia after infection. In severe cases, this condition may progress to pulmonary interstitial fibrosis. The therapeutic approach emphasizes expelling latent pathogens, regulating and dredging the pulmonary micro-membrane, tonifying the healthy qi, and supporting health. Regulating and dredging the pulmonary micro-membrane is a crucial step, with a focus on promoting the flow of lung qi, resolving dampness and phlegm, and activating blood circulation to remove stasis.

OBJECTIVE:
To observe the therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture (EA) in improving early enteral nutrition tolerance in patients with acute pancreatitis (AP) under the concept of accelerated rehabilitation, and to explore the related mechanism based on the changes in autonomic nerve characteristics.
METHODS:
A total of 42 patients with AP were randomized into an observation group (21 cases, 1 case dropped out) and a control group (21 cases, 1 case dropped out). The control group received standard basic treatment for AP. On the basis of the treatment in the control group, EA was applied in the observation group, bilateral Zusanli (ST36), Yixian point (Extra), Tianshu (ST25), Neiguan (PC6) and Zhongwan (CV12) were selected as the main points, and the supplementary points were selected according to syndrome differentiation. Ipsilateral Zusanli (ST36) and Yixian point (Extra) were connected to EA, using discontinuous wave, in frequency of 2 Hz, 30 min a time, once a day for 6 continuous days. The enteral nutrition tolerance score was observed before treatment and after 3 and 5 days of treatment; the visual analogue scale (VAS) score for abdominal pain was observed before treatment and after 3 days of treatment; the time of reaching the feeding goal and hospital stay was recorded; the levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) and amylase were measured before treatment and after 5 days of treatment; the heart rate variability (HRV) indexes (standard deviation of NN intervals [SDNN], average standard deviation of NN intervals [SDANN], root mean square of successive NN interval differences [rMSSD], low frequency [LF] and high frequency [HF], ratio of low frequency to high frequency [LF/HF]) were monitored in the two groups.
RESULTS:
After 3 and 5 days of treatment, the enteral nutrition tolerance scores were decreased compared with those before treatment in both groups (P<0.01), the reductions in the observation group were larger than those in the control group (P<0.01). After 3 days of treatment, the VAS scores for abdominal pain were decreased compared with those before treatment in both groups (P<0.01), the reduction in the observation group was larger than that in the control group (P<0.01). The time of reaching the feeding goal and hospital stay in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group (P<0.05). After 5 days of treatment, the CRP and amylase levels were decreased compared with those before treatment in both groups (P<0.01), the reduction of CRP level in the observation group was larger than that in the control group (P<0.01). In the observation group, SDNN, SDANN and LF/HF were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05, P<0.01), while rMSSD was higher than that in the control group (P<0.01). SDNN, SDANN and LF/HF were positively correlated with the enteral nutrition tolerance scores after 3 and 5 days of treatment (P<0.05), while rMSSD was negatively correlated with the enteral nutrition tolerance scores after 3 and 5 days of treatment (P<0.01).
CONCLUSION
Electroacupuncture can improve enteral nutrition tolerance in patients with AP by regulating autonomic nervous function, alleviating the inflammation, promoting accelerated recovery, and reducing the length of hospital stay.

Neuroscience Bulletin 2025;41(9):1537-1552
Zebrafish larvae are useful for identifying chemicals against lateral line (LL) hair cell (HC) damage and this type of chemical screen mainly focuses on searching for protectors against cell death. To expand the candidate pool of HC protectors, a self-built acoustic escape response (AER)-detecting system was developed to apply both low-frequency near-field sound transmission and AER image acquisition/processing modules. The device quickly confirmed the changed LL HC functions caused by most known ototoxins, protectors, and neural transmission modifiers, or knockdown of LL HC-expressing genes. With ten devices wired in tandem, five 'hit' chemicals were identified from 124 cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors to partially restore cisplatin-damaged AER in less than a day. AS2863619, ribociclib, and SU9516 among the hits, protected the HCs in the mouse cochlea. Therefore, using free-swimming larval zebrafish, the self-made AER-detecting device can efficiently identify compounds that are protective against HC damage, including cell death and loss-of-function.

Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2025;66(11):1174-1177
Based on the traditional Chinese medicine theory that "all pain, itching, and sores are related to the heart", this paper proposes treating recurrent aphthous ulcers from the perspective of the heart. It suggests that excessive heart fire and tissue erosion due to flaming fire in the heart meridian constitute the core pathogenesis of this condition. Hyperactive heart fire is identified as the key pathogenic factor, while heart yin deficiency, obstruction of the heart collaterals, and malnourishment of the heart spirit are considered significant contributing factors. Clinically, the treatment follows the principle of clearing heart fire as the main strategy, supplemented by nourishing yin, activating collaterals, and calming the spirit. The self-formulated Qingxin Yuchuang Formulation (清心愈疮方) serves as the base prescription, with flexible modifications incorporating the Yuyin Formulation (育阴方), Huoxue Formulation (活血方), and Yu'an Formulation (郁安方) to address specific syndromes involving heart yin deficiency, collateral blockage, and emotional disturbance.

Objective To analyze the correlation between serum cystatin C (Cys-C) and bone turnover markers in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and osteoporosis. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the data of 320 elderly patients with T2DM admitted to Huai'an First People's Hospital from August 2021 to June 2024. Patients were divided into the osteoporosis group and the non-osteoporosis group according to whether they had osteoporosis. General information, bone turnover markers, and serum Cys-C levels were collected from all patients. The data were compared between the two groups to analyze the influencing factors of osteoporosis in elderly patients with T2DM and the correlation between serum Cys-C and bone turnover markers. Results The levels of total cholesterol and LDL-C in the osteoporosis group were higher than those in the non-osteoporosis group, and the bone mineral density was lower than that in the non-osteoporosis group (P<0.05). The levels of TPINP, β-CTX, and Cys-C in the osteoporosis group were higher than those in the non-osteoporosis group, and 25-OH-D3 level was lower than that in the non-osteoporosis group (P<0.05). Serum Cys-C was positively correlated with TPINP and β-CTX, and negatively correlated with 25-OH-D3 (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis found that total cholesterol, LDL-C, TPINP, β-CTX, 25-OH-D3, and Cys-C were factors influencing osteoporosis in elderly patients with T2DM (P<0.05). Conclusion Serum Cys-C levels in elderly patients with T2DM and osteoporosis are elevated. There is a significant correlation between Cys-C level and bone turnover markers.

Journal of Audiology and Speech Pathology 2025;33(1):92-95
Masking is an important tool to evaluate auditory function, but it has always posed challenges in clinical audiology tests. This is mainly because of the lack of in-depth research into the biological mechanisms of masking over a long period, and an insufficient understanding of the principles of masking generation. This article describes the neurobiological fundamentals of clinical audiology test masking in terms of altered resonance patterns in the basilar membrane, the two-tone suppression effect of cochlear outer hair cell receptor potentials, the loss of bal-ance between excitatory and inhibitory transmitters at dopamine receptors, and disturbances in the phenomenon of phase-locking of nerve discharges.Overmasking is due to an enhanced contralateral inhibitory effect on cochlear out-er hair cell motility. This article aims to provide further guidance for clinical audiologist or physician in the proper use of masking.
