Upper eyelid retraction is clinically characterized by an abnormally elevated position of the upper eyelid margin, leading to abnormal exposure of the superior sclera. Its primary etiologies include thyroid-associated orbitopathy, neurogenic causes, iatrogenic causes, trauma, and congenital developmental anomalies. This condition significantly impacts patients’ ocular function, appearance, psychological well-being, and overall quality of life. Current treatment strategies for upper eyelid retraction are generally classified into non-surgical approaches (such as pharmacologic injections or fillers) and surgical interventions. This article reviewed the research progress in the management of upper eyelid retraction aiming to provide clinicians with a reference to assist in selecting appropriate treatment plans based on the degree of retraction in individual patients, ultimately achieving functional and aesthetic rehabilitation of the upper eyelid.

Objective:To investigate the abnormalities of mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor (MET) gene in early-stage lung adenocarcinomas and to provide genetic bases for related clinical studies. Methods:A total of 630 cases of formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded lung adenocarcinoma specimens with ALK and EGFR double-negativities were collected at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Beijing, China between July 2020 and April 2022. Forty-three stage Ⅰ-ⅢA tumors with MET exon 14 skipping mutation identified by reverse transcription droplet digital PCR (RT-ddPCR) were identified and then evaluated for MET amplification using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). MET amplification was determined using the ratio of MET to chromosome 7 enumeration probe (CEP7) or the mean of MET gene copy number (GCN).Results:Among the 43 samples with MET exon 14 skipping mutation, MET amplification was detected in 9 cases (9/43, 20.93%), including 1 case of MET/CEP7 ≥2 and GCN ≥5 (1/9), 8 cases of GCN≥5 (8/9), as well as 10 cases with high level of CEP7 (7.00-9.72) which included 5 cases with MET amplification. There were no significant differences in clinicopathological features between the two subgroups of tumors which harbored MET exon 14 skipping mutation with MET amplification versus those without ( P>0.05). Conclusions:Co-occurrence of MET exon 14 skipping mutation and MET amplification or high level of CEP7 is frequently observed in early-stage lung adenocarcinomas. The most common pattern of MET gene amplification is GCN ≥5.

OBJECTIVE To explore the clinical effect of Kangfuxin solution on wound healing, wound stromal cell-derived factor-1a(SDF-1a),vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and angiopoietin-2(ANG-2)of the peri-anal abscess patients complicated with wound infection.METHODS A total of 118 perianal abscess patients compli-cated with postoperative wound infection who were treated in Wuhan Eighth Hospital from Jun.2018 to Oct.2023 were enrolled in the study and were randomly divided into the Kangfuxin solution group and the potassium per-manganate group, with 59 cases in each group. Both groups were treated with debridement of infection foci in a timely manner, the potassium permanganate group was given potassium permanganate for daily cleaning and treat-ment,and the Kangfuxin solution group was given Kangfuxin solution for daily treatment. The wound healing time, time of disappearance of wound edema and shedding time of slough were recorded, and the reduced rate of wound surface was determined after the treatment. The pain degree was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS)after the treatment, and the levels of wound SDF-1a,VEGF and Ang-2 levels were detected.RESULTS The wound healing time[(12.53±2.57)days],time of disappearance of wound edema[(6.89±1.06)days]and shed-ding time of slough[(3.06±0.68)days]were shorter in the Kangfuxin solution group than in the potassium per-manganate group(P<0.05).The reduced rates of wound surface were higher after the treatment for 2,7 and 14 days, the VAS score was lower, and there were significant differences(P<0.05).The levels of SDF-1a,VEGF and Ang-2 of the two groups were higher after the treatment than before the treatment, the levels of SDF-1a,VEGF and Ang-2 of the Kangfuxin solution group were higher than those of the potassium permanganate group, and there were significant differences(P<0.05).CONCLUSIONS Kangfuxin solution can be used for wound repair of the perianal abscess patients complicated with wound infection, which may accelerate the wound healing. The action mechanisms may be associated with the regulation of expressions of wound SDF-1a,VEGF and Ang-2.

Objective To observe the value of ultrasound radiomics for distinguishing early and middle-late stage endometrial cancer(EC).Methods A total of 294 women with EC were retrospectively enrolled, including 196 in early stage and 98 in middle-late stage. The patients were randomly divided into training set(n=206)and validation set(n=88)at the ratio of 7∶3.Clinical data were compared between different stages, and a clinical model was constructed.Radiomics features were extracted and screened based on ultrasound data, and radiomics models were constructed with logistic regression(LR),random forest(RF),support vector machine(SVM),Gaussian naive Bayes(GNB)and extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost),respectively. Finally,a clinical-radiomics model was constructed. The value of each model for distinguishing early and middle-late stages EC was observed. Results Significant differences of age of consultation, menstrual disorders, abdominal pain and proportion of menopause were found between patients with early and middle-late stage EC(all P<0.05).Among these 5 radiomics models,RF model had the highest area under the curve(AUC)for distinguishing early and middle-late stage EC.Pairwise comparison of clinical model,RF radiomics model and clinical-RF radiomics model showed that significant differences of AUC were found between each 2 models(all P<0.05),and clinical-RF radiomics model had the highest AUC.Conclusion Ultrasound radiomics based on RF were helpful for distinguishing early and middle-late stage EC,and better diagnostic efficacy could be obtained through combining with clinical data.

Trace amines(TAs)are metabolically related to catecholamine and associated with cancer and neuro-logical disorders.Comprehensive measurement of TAs is essential for understanding pathological pro-cesses and providing proper drug intervention. However, the trace amounts and chemical instability of TAs challenge quantification. Here, diisopropyl phosphite coupled with chip two-dimensional(2D)liquid chromatography tandem triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry(LC-QQQ/MS)was developed to simul-taneously determine TAs and associated metabolites. The results showed that the sensitivities of TAs increased up to 5520 times compared with those using nonderivatized LC-QQQ/MS.This sensitive method was utilized to investigate their alterations in hepatoma cells after treatment with sorafenib. The significantly altered TAs and associated metabolites suggested that phenylalanine and tyrosine metabolic pathways were related to sorafenib treatment in Hep3B cells. This sensitive method has great potential to elucidate the mechanism and diagnose diseases considering that an increasing number of physiological functions of TAs have been discovered in recent decades.
