AIM: To explore the effect of dihydroquercetin on visual function in mice with form deprivation myopia based on the NOD-like receptor thermoprotein domain-related protein 3(NLRP3)inflammasome pathway.METHODS: The C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into control group and form deprivation myopia model group, and the form deprivation myopia model group was constructed by covering the right eye with a translucent eye patch. After successful modeling, the mice in the model group of form deprivation myopia were randomly divided into model group, low-, medium- and high-dose dihydroquercetin groups, and high-dose dihydroquercetin + NLRP3 agonist group. The diopter and axial length of mice in each group were detected. The kit was used to detect the levels of superoxide dismutase(SOD)and malondialdehyde(MDA)in retinal tissue. RT-qPCR was used to detect the mRNA expressions of NLRP3, apoptosis-associated spot-like protein(ASC), Caspase-1, IL-1β and IL-18 in retinal tissues. Western blot was used to detect the expression of NLRP3, ASC, cleaved Caspase-1, IL-1β and IL-18 proteins in retinal tissues. TUNEL staining was used to detect apoptosis in retinal tissue.RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the diopter of the mice in the model group decreased, and axial length increased, and the SOD decreased whereas MDA, NLRP3, ASC, Caspase-1, IL-1β, IL-18 increased, and the rate of apoptosis in retinal tissue increased(all P<0.05). Compared with the model group, the diopter of mice in the low-, medium- and high-dose dihydroquercetin groups increased, axial length shortened, the SOD increased, whereas MDA, NLRP3, ASC, Caspase-1, IL-1β, IL-18 decreased, and the rate of apoptosis in retinal tissue decreased(all P<0.05). Compared with the high-dose dihydroquercetin group, the high-dose dihydroquercetin+NLRP3 agonist group had reduced diopter, increased axial length, decreased SOD levels, elevated MDA, NLRP3, ASC, Caspase-1, IL-1β, and IL-18 levels, as well as increased apoptosis rate in retinal tissue(all P<0.05).CONCLUSION: Dihydroquercetin can improve visual function in mice with form deprivation myopia by inhibiting pyroptosis and oxidative stress responses, which may be related to the suppression of NLRP3 inflammasome. NLRP3 agonists can partially mitigate the effects of high-dose dihydroquercetin on form deprivation myopia in mice.

ObjectiveTo systematically evaluate the application of narrative education in undergraduate nursing teaching, to understand the current application status of narrative education, and to provide a theoretical basis for the subsequent establishment of a sound narrative education system. MethodsA systematic search was conducted for studies published in Chinese and English databases on applying narrative education to undergraduate nursing teaching, with the search period ranging from database inception to February 23, 2025. Literature was screened, and relevant information was extracted. A rigorous quality evaluation was conducted on the included studies, and a descriptive analysis was performed on their content. ResultsA total of 20 papers were included, involving 3,180 research subjects, all of whom were undergraduate nursing students. The results of descriptive analysis showed that the teaching model of narrative education primarily encompassed reading narrative works, watching films and videos, performing narrative scenarios, and writing reflective journals. The course setting and content covered pre-teaching preparation and in-teaching implementation. The evaluation of teaching effectiveness included the evaluation of teachers’ teaching methods (student evaluation/self-evaluation) and the evaluation of students’ learning effectiveness (course grade evaluation/humanistic care scale/empathy scale assessment, and others). ConclusionNarrative education combines abstract concepts with concrete clinical situations, which not only enriches students’ learning experiences but also enhances their humanistic literacy. Meanwhile, it provides teachers with opportunities to develop their narrative teaching skills, which requires them to possess profound professional knowledge and employ narrative techniques to guide students in reflection and critical thinking, thereby improving teaching quality and learning outcomes. Future efforts should consistently deepen the connotation research of narrative education and build a systematic nursing education system.

ObjectiveTo systematically review and analyze the core ethical challenges accompanying technological convergence in the field of rehabilitation engineering, and to propose a forward-looking and actionable ethical governance framework. MethodsTaking the basic principles of policies and regulations, medical ethics, and scientific and technological ethics as the theoretical foundation, and combining with the application characteristics of rehabilitation engineering technology, this paper systematically sorted out the core issues existing in the ethical review of rehabilitation engineering, and conducted targeted analyses focusing on the key points of ethical governance. ResultsThis paper systematically reviewed the core ethical challenges arising from technological convergence in rehabilitation engineering, encompassing dilemmas of identity and autonomy, inequitable resource allocation and biases, data privacy and security risks, and accountability attribution difficulties in multi-stakeholder collaboration. It further proposed targeted governance recommendations along three dimensions: deepening ethical principles, improving review mechanisms and building capacity among diverse stakeholders. ConclusionRehabilitation engineering, leveraging artificial intelligence and robotics offers novel rehabilitation pathways for individuals with functional impairments, and has substantially improved therapeutic outcomes. Nevertheless, its widespread application is accompanied by ethical challenges, including privacy breaches, difficulties in liability attribution, inequitable service access, and emotional dependency. Governance pathways should be established around the refinement of ethical principles, the formulation of specific regulatory frameworks, and the cultivation of ethical competence among diverse stakeholders. Ethical considerations must be embedded throughout the entire lifecycle of technology research and development, clinical translation and deployment. Through the coordinated advancement of policy, technology and humanistic values, a balance can be struck between technological innovation and the protection of human rights, thereby fostering the beneficent and sustainable development of rehabilitation engineering.

Panretinal photocoagulation(PRP)is the first-line treatment for severe non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy and proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR).Its therapeutic efficacy varies due to multiple patient-specific systemic and ocular factors. Despite standardized PRP, some patients fail to show adequate regression of neovascularization and subsequently develop vitreous hemorrhage(VH). In such cases, pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)effectively clears the hemorrhage, restores transparency of the ocular media, supplement PRP, and delays the progression of PDR, thus becoming a critical intervention. With recent advances in surgical techniques, concepts, and equipment, early PPV intervention for VH following PRP has emerged as a growing research focus. Nevertheless, consensus remains lacking regarding its indications, optimal timing, and surgical protocols. This article systematically reviews relevant domestic and international studies, summarizing the surgical timing, approaches, and prognoses of PPV for VH in PDR patients after PRP, aiming to provide evidence-based reference for clinical decision-making and reduce the risk of PDR-related blindness.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of primary liver cancer and has a poor overall prognosis. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) plays a crucial role in the diagnosis, treatment response evaluation, and prognostic evaluation of HCC. This article systematically reviews the literature characteristics, research hotspots, and frontier advances of CEUS in the field of HCC. There has been a gradual increase in annual publication volume in this field, with China ranking first globally in the total number of publications. Highly cited articles mainly focus on clinical guidelines and standardized protocols. Keyword analysis shows that the main research hotspots in this field include the diagnosis and standardized assessment of HCC, differential diagnosis, treatment response evaluation after local therapy, and prognostic prediction. Meanwhile, microvascular invasion, artificial intelligence (AI), and super-resolution ultrasound (SRUS) may be emerging as cutting-edge frontiers in this field. Specifically, AI can be used for the auxiliary diagnosis of HCC, the evaluation of tumor biological characteristics, and prognostic prediction, and SRUS can overcome the acoustic diffraction limit to achieve precise microvascular imaging of the liver. Currently, a solid foundation has been established for the research on CEUS in HCC, showing a strong orientation toward clinical practice. In the future, emerging technologies such as CEUS-based AI models and SRUS are expected to further promote the development of precise diagnosis and treatment for HCC.

ObjectiveTo investigate the incidence, glucolipid metabolism characteristics, and associated factors of postoperative overweight/obesity in children and adolescent with craniopharyngioma. MethodsA retrospective study was conducted using follow-up data from 44 patients (aged 0-18 years) diagnosed with craniopharyngioma who underwent surgical treatment and received follow-up care at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, between January 2006 and February 2024. The incidence and glucolipid metabolism characteristics of overweight/obesity were summarized, and potential influencing factors were analyzed. ResultsA total of 44 patients were enrolled. The mean age at surgery was (8.57 ± 4.25) years, and the mean age at last follow-up was (16.02 ± 5.36 )years. The mean follow-up duration was (7.45 ± 4.64) years (range, 8 months to 17.5 years). The preoperative incidence of overweight/obesity was 40.91% (predominantly overweight, 27.27%), which increased to 68.18% postoperatively (predominantly obesity, 50.00%). Postoperatively, all patients (44/44, 100%) underwent fasting plasma glucose (FPG) testing, among whom 2 (4.55%) had impaired fasting glucose (IFG). Fasting insulin (FINS) was measured in 20 patients, and insulin resistance was identified in 11 (55.00%). Oral glucose tolerance testing (OGTT) with insulin release assessment was performed in 12 patients, and all (100%) exhibited abnormal insulin secretion, including 5 (41.67%) with hyperinsulinemia and 3 (25.00%) diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (DM). All patients (44/44, 100%) underwent lipid profile assessment. The incidence of dyslipidemia was 81.82% (36/44), including elevated non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (29/44, 65.91%), hypertriglyceridemia (29/44, 65.91%), low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (22/44, 50.00%), and mixed hyperlipidemia (13/44, 29.55%). Logistic regression analysis indicated that preoperative overweight/obesity and postoperative abnormal glucose metabolism were significant factors associated with postoperative overweight/obesity. Compared with normal-weight patients, those with postoperative overweight/obesity had higher FINS levels (14.22 mU/L vs. 3.57 mU/L), higher insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) (2.88 vs. 0.52), and a higher incidence of abnormal glucose metabolism (77.78% vs. 23.08%). However, no significant difference was observed in the incidence of dyslipidemia (94.44% vs. 73.08%). ConclusionsChildren and adolescent with craniopharyngioma exhibit a higher incidence of overweight/obesity than healthy peers preoperatively, which becomes more pronounced after surgery. This is accompanied by a high incidence of glucolipid metabolic disorders, placing these patients at increased risk of metabolic syndrome, which warrants clinical attention and regular metabolic assessment. In patients who develop postoperative obesity, particular attention should be given to the risk of glucose metabolism abnormalities, and further monitoring of glucose homeostasis is recommended.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of dexborneol on the pharmacokinetic parameters of edaravone in rats under the pathological condition of cerebral ischemic stroke (CIS).METHODS Twenty male SD rats were randomly divided into the edaravone group and the Edaravone and dexborneol concentrated solution for injection (EDB injection) group, with 10 rats in each group. A middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rat model was established using the modified Longa suture method. Within 5 min of ischemia-reperfusion, the corresponding drug solutions were injected via the tail vein at a dose of 2.5 mg/kg (calculated by edaravone). Blood samples were collected from the orbital venous plexus at 0.08, 0.5, 1, 3, 6, 18, and 24 h after injection. With carbamazepine as the internal standard, the plasma concentration of edaravone was determined by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method. Pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated using DAS software and compared between the two groups.RESULTS Compared with the edaravone group, the peak concentration ( c max ) of edaravone in the EDB injection group was significantly increased ( P <0.05), while no statistically significant differences were observed in the half life, time to peak, clearance, or area under curve ( P >0.05).CONCLUSIONS Under the pathological condition of CIS, dexborneol can increase the c max of edaravone in the plasma of model rats, but has no significant effect on the systemic exposure or clearance of edaravone.

The efficacy of Xiangmei Pills on rats with ulcerative colitis(UC) was investigated by characterizing the spectrum of the active chemical components of Xiangmei Pills. Rapid identification and classification of the main chemical components were performed, and the therapeutic effects of Xiangmei Pills on the proteins and intestinal flora of UC rats were analyzed to explore the mechanism of its action in treating UC. Fifty SD rats were acclimatized to feeding for 3 d and randomly divided into blank group, model group, mesalazine group(0. 4 g·kg~(-1)), low-dose group of Xiangmei Pills(1. 89 g·kg~(-1)), and high-dose group of Xiangmei Pills(5. 67 g·kg~(-1)), with 10 rats in each group. 5% dextrose sodium sulfate(DSS) was given by gavage to induce the male SD rat model with UC,and the corresponding medicinal solution was given by gavage after 10 days, respectively. The therapeutic effect of Xiangmei Pills on rats with UC was evaluated according to body mass, disease activity index(DAI), and hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining, and the histopathological changes in the colon were observed. Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole/electrostatic field orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry(UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS) technique was used to rapidly and accurately identify the main chemical constituents of Xiangmei Pills. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of aryl hydrocarbon receptor(AhR),interferon-γ(IFN-γ), mucin-2(MUC-2), and cytochrome P450 1A1(CYP1A1) in colon tissue. Interleukin-22(IL-22) expression in colon tissue was detected by immunofluorescence. The 16S r DNA high-throughput sequencing technique was used to study the modulatory effects of Xiangmei Pills on the intestinal flora structure of rats with UC. Pharmacodynamic results showed that compared with that of the blank group, the colon tissue of the model group was congested, and ulcers were visible in the mucosa; compared with that in the model group, the histopathology of the colon of the rats with UC in the groups of Xiangmei Pills were improved, with scattered ulcers and reduced inflammatory cell infiltration. Chemical analysis showed that a total of 45 components were identified by mass spectrometry information, including 15 phenolic acids, 8 coumarins, 15 organic acids, 3 amino acids, 2 flavonoids, and 2 other components. Compared with those in the blank group, the levels of Ah R, CYP1A1, MUC-2, and IL-22 proteins in the colon tissue of rats in the model group were significantly decreased, and the level of IFN-γ protein was significantly increased; the intestinal flora of rats in the model group was disorganized, with a decrease in the abundance of the flora; the relative abundance of Bacteroidetes, unclassified genera of Ascomycetes, Prevotella of the Prevotella family, and Prevotella decreased significantly, and that of Firmicutes decreased, but the difference was not statistically significant. The relative abundance of Bacteroidetes, Bifidobacterium, and Lactobacillus increased significantly. Compared with those of the model group, the levels of Ah R, CYP1A1, MUC-2, and IL-22proteins in the colonic tissue of the groups of Xiangmei Pills were significantly higher, and the levels of IFN-γ proteins were significantly lower. The recovery of the intestinal flora was accelerated, and the diversity of the intestinal flora was significantly increased. The relative abundance of Bacteroidetes was significantly increased, and that of unclassified genera of Ascomycetes,Lactobacillus, Prevotella of the Prevotella family, and Prevotella was significantly increased. The relative abundance of Bacteroidetes and Bifidobacterium was significantly decreased. This study demonstrated that Xiangmei Pills can effectively treat UC, mainly through the phenolic acid and organic acid components to stimulate the intestinal barrier, regulate protein expression and the relative abundance and diversity of intestinal flora, and play a role in the treatment of UC.

To elucidate the mechanism by which steaming affects the quality of Curcuma kwangsiensis root tubers, methods such as LSCM, RVA, dual-wavelength spectrophotometry, LF-NMR, and LC-MS were employed to qualitatively and quantitatively detect changes in starch gelatinization characteristics, water distribution, and material composition of C. kwangsiensis root tubers under different steaming durations. Based on multivariate statistical analysis, the correlation between differences in gelatinization parameters, water distribution, and terpenoid material composition was investigated. The results indicate that steaming affects both starch gelatinization and water distribution in C. kwangsiensis. During the steaming process, transformations occur between amylose and amylopectin, as well as between semi-bound water and free water. After 60 min of steaming, starch gelatinization and water distribution reached an equilibrium state. The content of amylopectin, the amylose-to-amylopectin ratio, and parameters such as gelatinization temperature, viscosity, breakdown value, and setback value were significantly correlated(P≤0.05). Additionally, the amylose-to-amylopectin ratio was significantly correlated with total free water and total water content(P≤0.05). Steaming induced differences in the material composition of C. kwangsiensis root tubers. Clustering of primary metabolites in the OPLS-DA model was distinct, while secondary metabolites were classified into 9 clusters using the K-means clustering algorithm. Differential terpenoid metabolites such as(-)-α-curcumene were significantly correlated with zerumbone, retinal, and all-trans-retinoic acid(P<0.05). Curcumenol was significantly correlated with isoalantolactone and ursolic acid(P<0.05), while all-trans-retinoic acid was significantly correlated with both zerumbone and retinal(P<0.05). Alpha-tocotrienol exhibited a significant correlation with retinal and all-trans-retinoic acid(P<0.05). Amylose was extremely significantly correlated with(-)-α-curcumene, curcumenol, zerumbone, retinal, all-trans-retinoic acid, and α-tocotrienol(P<0.05). Amylopectin was significantly correlated with zerumbone(P<0.05) and extremely significantly correlated with(-)-α-curcumene, curcumenol, zerumbone, retinal, all-trans-retinoic acid, and 9-cis-retinoic acid(P<0.01). The results provide scientific evidence for elucidating the mechanism of quality formation of steamed C. kwangsiensis root tubers as a medicinal material.
