Collagen-based materials, renowned for their biocompatibility and minimal immunogenicity, serve as exemplary substrates in a myriad of biomedical applications. Collagen-based micro/nanogels, in particular, are valued for their increased surface area, tunable degradation rates, and ability to facilitate targeted drug delivery, making them instrumental in advanced therapeutics and tissue engineering endeavors. Although extensive reviews on micro/nanogels exist, they tend to cover a wide range of biomaterials and lack a specific focus on collagen-based materials. The current review offers an in-depth look into the manufacturing technologies, drug release mechanisms, and biomedical applications of collagen-based micro/nanogels to address this gap. First, we provide an overview of the synthetic strategies that allow the precise control of the size, shape, and mechanical strength of these collagen-based micro/nanogels by controlling the degree of cross-linking of the materials. These properties are crucial for their performance in biomedical applications. We then highlight the environmental responsiveness of these collagen-based micro/nanogels, particularly their sensitivity to enzymes and pH, which enables controlled drug release under various pathological conditions. The discussion then expands to include their applications in cancer therapy, antimicrobial treatments, bone tissue repair, and imaging diagnosis, emphasizing their versatility and potential in these critical areas. The challenges and future perspectives of collagen-based micro/nanogels in the field are discussed at the end of the review, with an emphasis on the translation to clinical practice. This comprehensive review serves as a valuable resource for researchers, clinicians, and scientists alike, providing insights into the current state and future directions of collagen-based micro/nanogel research and development.

3.Surveillance and analysis of etiology of viral diarrhea in children under five years old in Baotou city

Objective:To investigate the epidemiological trends of viral diarrhea pathogens in children in Baotou city, and to provide reference for controlling the prevalence of viral diarrhea and guiding the development of regional vaccines.Methods:Fecal samples were collected from children under five years old hospitalized with viral diarrhea at two sentinel hospitals in Baotou from June 2023 to May 2024. Real-time PCR was used to detect group A rotavirus, norovirus, adenovirus, and astrovirus. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 20.0 software, with Chi-square tests conducted to assess differences. A P value<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results:A total of 246 fecal samples were collected, including 153 from males and 93 from females. Among these, 135 samples tested positive, yielding a positivity rate of 54.88% (135/246). There were 82 positive samples from male children and 53 from female children, with no significant difference between genders. Most positive samples (51.85%, 70/135) tested positive for two viruses. Specifically, co-infections of group A rotavirus with norovirus or adenovirus accounted for 98.57% (69/70) of all co-infected cases. Significant differences in detection rates were observed across age groups (χ 2=29.803, P<0.001), with the highest positivity rates in children under one year old and in the 1-year age group. Seasonality, viral diarrhea in Baotou was more prevalent in winter and spring. The G8P[8] genotype of group A rotavirus was the predominant strain. Conclusions:From June 2023 to May 2024, viral diarrhea in hospitalized children under five years old in Baotou is primarily caused by co-infections of group A rotavirus and norovirus, with a higher incidence in preschool-aged children. The G8P[8] genotype of group A rotavirus is the dominant strain. It is recommended to strengthen vaccination and surveillance efforts for viral diarrhea in preschool children, particularly during the winter and spring seasons.
4.Assessment of clinal target volume deformation in online adaptive radiotherapy for prostate cancer

Objective:To assess intrafractional errors of the deformation of clinical target volumes (CTVs) during online adaptive radiotherapy (OART) for prostate cancer patients, aiming to provide a basis for online plan optimization.Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted for 13 prostate cancer patients who received 1.5 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided OART (8 Gy × 5 fractions, totaling 65 fractions) at the Department of Radiation Oncology, Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. The MRI images were collected at the beginning and end of various treatment fractions. Then, the CTVs and organs at risk (OARs) were delineated by the same radiation oncologist. After rigid registration and triangle mesh generation, the surface vertices were extracted. The deformable registration for the CTV surfaces was performed using the thin-plate spline robust point matching (TPS-RPM) algorithm, yielding vertex correspondences. Last, both systematic and random intrafractional errors of CTV deformation were calculated.Results:The average Hausdorff distance (HD) for deformable registration of treatment fractions was (1.68 ± 0.28) mm. The intrafractional systematic errors of CTV deformation were (0.25 ± 3.18) mm (anterior-posterior direction; A-P), (0.89 ± 3.85) mm (left-right direction, L-R), and (-1.98 ± 6.69) mm (superior-inferior direction, S-I). The intrafractional random errors of CTV deformation were determined at (-0.26 ± 1.89) mm (A-P), (-0.08 ± 0.88) mm (L-R), and (-0.04 ± 1.86) mm (S-I).Conclusions:During OART, CTV deformations primarily occur in the S-I direction. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the expanded size of margins in this direction during OART for prostate cancer.
5.Application Prospect of Using Injectable Hydrogels in the Treatment of Refractory Angina

In recent years, the prevalence of obstructive coronary artery disease has continued to rise. Despite the widespread application of strategies such as intensive pharmacotherapy, coronary artery bypass grafting, or percutaneous coronary intervention, a subset of patients still experience recurrent angina symptoms, which severely impacts their quality of life. For such cases of refractory angina (RA), researchers domestically and internationally have explored therapeutic approaches such as spinal cord stimulation, transmyocardial laser revascularization, and sympathectomy. However, existing studies are largely limited to small-scale clinical trials, and their clinical translation still faces challenges due to insufficient validation of safety and efficacy. Injectable hydrogels, as functional materials with hydrophilic three-dimensional network structures, demonstrate unique advantages in the treatment of RA. They can not only provide mechanical support but also serve as controlled-release carriers for drugs and proteins, and synergize with gene therapy and stem cell therapy to promotemyocardial tissue repair. This article systematically reviews the application prospects of injectable hydrogels in the treatment of RA, aiming to provide insights for future therapeutic strategies.
6.Mediating effect of resilience on AIDS-related stress and patient-reported outcome among elderly cases with HIV/AIDS

Objective:
To examine the mediating effect of resilience on AIDS-related stress and patient-reported outcome among elderly cases with HIV/AIDS, so as to provide the basis for promoting mental health and improving health outcomes of this population.
Methods:
From June to July 2024, elderly cases with HIV/AIDS receiving treatment in the infectious diseases department of a tertiary-level hospital in Sichuan Province and undergoing follow-up management at 12 community health service centers in Wuhou District, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, were selected as study participants using convenience sampling method. Data on demographic information, duration since confirmed diagnosis and the most recent CD4+T lymphocyte count were collected through questionnaire surveys. The Chinese versions of the HIV/AIDS Stress Scale, the Chinese versions of the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and the Patient-Reported Outcome Scale for Elderly HIV/AIDS Patients were used to assess AIDS-related stress, resilience, and patient-reported outcome, respectively. Structural equation modeling was performed using Mplus 8.3 software to analyze the mediating effect of resilience on AIDS-related stress and patient-reported outcome. The Bootstrap method was employed to test the significance of the mediating effect.
Results:
A total of 424 elderly HIV/AIDS cases were included, with a mean age of (62.04±8.73) years. Among them, 315 (74.29%) were males and 109 (25.71%) were females. The median scores were 23.00 (interquartile range, 11.00) points for AIDS-related stress, 30.00 (interquartile range, 7.00) points for resilience, and 363.45 (interquartile range, 53.03) points for the total score of patient-reported outcome. Resultsof the mediation effect analysis revealed that AIDS-related stress had a direct negative effect on patient-reported outcome (β=-0.608, 95%CI: -0.742 to -0.465). It also exerted an indirect negative effect on patient-reported outcome through the mediating role of resilience (β=-0.258, 95%CI: -0.364 to -0.158), with the mediating effect accounting for 29.79% of the total effect.
Conclusion
AIDS-related stress among elderly cases with HIV/AIDS can directly or indirectly negatively affect patient-reported outcome through resilience.
7.Quality assurance of artificial intelligence models applied to case-specific radiotherapy

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are being widely applied in radiotherapy. However, the integration of AI into clinical workflows of radiotherapy faces a series of challenges, such as poor model interpretability, domain shifts between clinical application and training data, and the inherent model uncertainties. Therefore, case-specific quality assurance (QA) is essential before deploying AI models in clinical practice. This paper reviews and summarizes QA methodologies for the application of AI models in radiotherapy across four key areas: image registration, image generation, region of interest segmentation, and treatment planning.
8.Three-dimensional finite element analysis of three-dimensional printed personalized orthodontic appliances for vertical movement of single teeth

BACKGROUND:Based on the principle of vertical tooth movement,a personalized orthodontic appliance is created through digital design combined with 3D printing,so that the personalized orthodontic appliance forms a support system with the individual incisors.With the help of the absolute support of the micro-implant,the single tooth is precisely controlled in a three-dimensional direction.OBJECTIVE:To design personalized orthodontic appliances with 11,12,21,and 22 intrusion and extrusion based on biomechanical principles,and analyze the safety of the personalized orthodontic appliances in terms of their movement effect on the teeth by means of the three-dimensional finite element method.METHODS:Three-dimensional finite element models of alveolar bone-periodontium-maxillary incisors-personalized cantilever micro-implant-connecting plates-personalized brackets in the maxillary anterior region(teeth numbers 11,12,21,and 22)were established using Mimics,Geomagic Wrap,SolidWorks,and Ansys Workbench software,respectively.Personalized orthodontic appliances with low pressure movement and extended movement were set up at each tooth position.The stress level of each component of the personalized orthodontic appliances was analyzed,and the tooth displacement and periodontal stress distribution were calculated under loading of 300 g tensile or thrust force.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)The maximum equivalent force on the personalized intrusion mobile orthodontic appliance was 162.90 MPa,and the maximum equivalent force on the personalized extrusion mobile orthodontic appliance was 239.57 MPa.The maximum equivalent stress on both devices was located in the vertical portion of the personalized bracket loading attachment.The equivalent stresses on each part of the personalized orthodontic appliance were all within the yield strength,and they had good safety.(2)The initial displacement of the teeth under the action of the personalized orthodontic appliances showed a tendency towards overall intrusion or extrusion,with the displacement in the vertical direction far exceeding that in the horizontal and sagittal directions.The equivalent stress peak appeared at the root tip or neck of the periodontal membrane,and the equivalent stress concentration area appeared in the periodontal membrane of the root apical region.(3)The results show that the personalized orthodontic appliance allows 11,12,21,and 22 to approximate either intrusion movement or extrusion movement,initially confirming the effectiveness of the personalized vertical movement orthodontic appliance.
9.Multidisciplinary diagnostic and therapeutic analysis of a patient with heparin-induced thrombocytopenia

Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia(HIT)is an antibody-mediated adverse reaction to heparin that is clinically manifested as a progressive reduction in platelet count after heparin administration,leading to venous and/or arterial thromboembolism and even death in severe cases.Acquired thrombocytopenia is commonly observed in hospitalized patients,the pathological mechanism is associated with drugs,autoimmune diseases,and consumptive thrombocytopenia.Patients with HIT frequently have complex clinical situations,and their manifestations are often atypical or mixed with other symptoms and signs,posing significant challenges to diagnosis and treatment for clinicians.Through the multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment process of a HIT patient,this paper discusses HIT occurrence mechanism,clinical evaluation,laboratory testing and alternative anticoagulant therapy,so as to provide reference for doctors to accurately identify and effectively intervention in clinical practice.
10.Analysis of Related Factors of Poor Collateral Circulation Formation in Patients With Chronic Total Occlusion Lesion of Coronary Arteries

Objectives:To investigate the factors affecting the formation of coronary collateral circulation(CCC)in patients with chronic total occlusion(CTO)lesion of coronary artery.Methods:A total of 305 consecutive patients who were hospitalized in the department of cardiology of the First Hospital of Lanzhou University from December 2022 to December 2023 and CTO lesions were confirmed by coronary angiography in at least one major coronary artery were included.The clinical data were collected,and the patients were divided into poor CCC group(Rentrop grade 0-1,n=109)and good CCC group(Rentrop grade 2-3,n=196)according to Rentrop criteria.Univariate logistic regression and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to investigate the risk factors of poor CCC formation in CTO lesion patients.Results:There were 109 patients with poor CCC formation and 196 patients with good CCC formation in this cohort.The levels of white blood cell count,neutrophil count,platelet count,platelet to lymphocyte ratio,neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio,systemic immunoinflammatory index(SII),lipoprotein a and fibringen(Fib)were significantly higher,lymphocyte count and mean platelet volume were significantly lower in patients with poor CCC formation than in patients with good CCC formation(all P<0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that higher SII(OR=1.004,95%CI:1.003-1.006,P<0.001),Fib(OR=1.546,95%CI:1.038-2.301,P=0.032)levels were independent predictors of poor CCC formation in CTO lesion patients.Conclusions:Higher levels of SII and Fib are independently correlated with poor CCC formation,which may be used as clinical predictor of poor CCC formation in CTO lesion patients.
