The red doctor spirit is a unique spiritual form and value pursuit nurtured. It was nurtured and formed during the medical practice of the Communist Party of China leading the vast medical workers to integrate the basic principles of Marxism with the concrete realities of the Chinese revolution and with the excellent traditional Chinese medical ethics culture. It constitutes not only an important component of the spiritual spectrum of the Chinese Communists but also a significant source of the health and wellness culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Employing the analytical framework of the “two integrations,” this paper conducted an in-depth analysis of the generative logic of the red doctor spirit. It revealed that this spirit was not only the creative transformation and concrete manifestation of Marxist core concepts such as human emancipation and the people-centered stance in the medical and health practices of the Chinese revolution, but also an integration and elevation of traditional medical ethics like “the caring heart of a physician” and “a master physician must have superb skill and sincerity” in the excellent traditional Chinese culture with the red revolutionary culture at the practical level. This paper argued that the generation of the red doctor spirit was the product of a dialectical unity regarding theoretical guidance, cultural nourishment, and practical exploration under specific historical conditions. Situated in the new era, the red doctor spirit continues to exhibit strong vitality and irreplaceable contemporary value in aspects such as adhering to the people-first principle, advancing the healthy China initiative, strengthening medical ethics and professional conduct, carrying forward the red gene, and cultivating new generations for the era.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the relationship between physical activity and genetic risk and their combined effects on the risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
METHODS:
This prospective cohort study included 318,085 biobank participants from the UK. Physical activity was assessed using the short form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. The participants were stratified into low-, intermediate-, and high-genetic-risk groups based on their polygenic risk scores. Multivariate Cox regression models and multiplicative interaction analyses were used.
RESULTS:
During a median follow-up period of 13 years, 9,209 participants were diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. For low genetic risk, compared to low physical activity, the hazard ratios ( HRs) for moderate and high physical activity were 0.853 (95% confidence interval [ CI]: 0.748-0.972) and 0.831 (95% CI: 0.727-0.950), respectively. For intermediate genetic risk, the HRs were 0.829 (95% CI: 0.758-0.905) and 0.835 (95% CI: 0.764-0.914), respectively. For participants with high genetic risk, the HRs were 0.809 (95% CI: 0.746-0.877) and 0.818 (95% CI: 0.754-0.888), respectively. A significant interaction was observed between genetic risk and physical activity.
CONCLUSION
Moderate or high levels of physical activity were associated with a lower risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease across all genetic risk groups, highlighting the need to tailor activity interventions for genetically susceptible individuals.

Objective To investigate the characteristics of epilepsy onset based on the theory of five circuits and six qi in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).Methods A total of 8 389 epilepsy patients from a community-based natural population cohort study from UK Biobank were included.Frequency and constituent ratio analyses were performed to describe the distribution of epilepsy onset in relation to the five circuits and six qi elements, and statistical inferences were made using chi-square tests. Results The analysis revealed statistically significant differences existed in epilepsy onset across different heavenly stems, earthly branches, recombinant yearly circuit, celestial control and terrestrial effect, and dominant qi(all P<0.05).From the perspective of circuits, the highest incidence occurred in years corresponding to the"Ji"and"Hai"years, while the lowest incidence was observed in"Bing"and"Mao"years.Years dominated by wood circuit and wind manifestations exhibited the highest incidence, whereas years with cold manifestations showed the lowest incidence, suggesting the liver as the primary pathological site in epilepsy. From the perspective of qi,the third dominant qi was most frequently associated with onset.Regarding presiding and subordinate qi,years with taiyin damp earth presiding and taiyang cold water subordinate had the highest incidence, while years with yangming dry metal presiding and shaoyang monarch fire subordinate had the lowest incidence, indicating that cold-damp years and midsummer periods are potential triggers for epilepsy. Conclusion There is a certain regularity in the epilepsy onset correlated with the features of five circuits and six qi,which can guide prevention and clinical diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy.

Objective Aberrant expression of ATP binding cassette subfamily B member 1(ABCB1)plays a key role in several cancers. However, influence of G protein coupled receptor family C group 5 type A(GPRC5A)-regulated ABCB1 expression on lung adenocarcinoma proliferation remains unclear. Therefore, this study investigated the effect of GPRC5A regulated ABCB1 expression on the proliferation of lung adenocarcinoma. Methods ABCB1 expressions in lung adenocarcinoma cell lines, human lung adenocarcinoma tissues, and tracheal epithelial cells and lung tissues of GPRC5A knockout mice and wild-type mice were analyzed with RT-PCR,Western blot,or immunohistochemical analysis.Cell counting kit-8 assay was performed to analyze the sensitivity of tracheal epithelial cells from GPRC5A knockout mice to chemotherapeutic agents.Subcutaneous tumor formation assay was performed to confirm whether down-regulation of ABCB 1 could inhibit the proliferation of lung adenocarcinoma in vivo.To verify the potential regulatory relationship between GPRC5A and ABCB1,immunofluorescence and immunoprecipitation assays were performed. Results ABCB1 expression was up-regulated in lung adenocarcinoma cell lines and human lung adenocarcinoma tissues.ABCB1 expression in the tracheal epithelial cells and lung tissues of GPRC5A deficient mice was higher than that in the wild type mice.Tracheal epithelial cells of GPRC5A knockout mice were much more sensitive to tariquidar and doxorubicin than those of GPRC5A wild type mice.Accordingly,28 days after injection of the transplanted cells, the volume and weight of lung tumor in ABCB1 knockout cell-transplanted GPRC5A-/-C57BL/6 mice were significantly smaller than those in wild type cell-transplanted mice(P=0.0043,P=0.0060).Furthermore,immunofluorescence and immunoprecipitation assays showed that GPRC5A regulated ABCB1 expression by direct binding. Conclusion GPRC5A reduces lung adenocarcinoma proliferation via inhibiting ABCB1 expression. The pathway by which GPRC5A regulates ABCB1 expression needs to be investigated.
