1.Factors Associated with Dental Health Care Behaviors For Dental Caries Prevention of Grade 5 students, Sisattanak district, Vientiane Capital

Background and rationale: :
Sok Pa Luang Primary School is one of the schools located in the big city and It is also a model school that lies in the promotion program and Prevention of childhood diseases as a program or planning in schools and Oral-dental health care program of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Health has given health education to Sok Pra Luang Primary School, Si Sattanak District make aware of various behaviors which is the risk of tooth decay in children 10-12 years old this is an important issue and there is no survey yet. Since the school dental program, the Faculty of Dentistry has been operating for many years, The pediatric dentistry team is interested Study the factors that are related to oral health behavior, To prevent tooth decay in 5th grade students.
Methodology: :
This study model is a cross-sectional survey research, Send the interview form to the student's parents, Student interview form and oral examination carries. Tools used in research using the preceding framework. Sample population: The total number included in the study was 72 student who is studying Primary education grade 5, Sok Pa Luang Primary School Si Sattanak District, Vientiane Province. 2022-2023.
Results: :
The incidence of tooth decay in permanent teeth is 72 people: 29 people didn't find any carious teeth, Males without teeth are higher than females at 62.1% and a total of 43 people were found to have carious teeth and Females are 58.1% higher than males. Dental health care behaviors to prevent dental caries in the overall at a moderate (2.79±0.55), The relationship between sex, parent's age, the person the child lives with, the number of members in the student's family, the parent's occupation, the parent's education level, the average monthly income of the family and the amount of money the student comes to school with the behavior of taking care of dental health to prevent tooth decay. There is no relationship with the behavior of taking care of dental health to prevent tooth decay of students. Knowledge, Awareness about behavior dental health care to prevent tooth decay, Access to dental services, Dental caries information awareness and social support for dental caries prevention there is a positive relationship with dental health care behavior to prevent dental carries in students (p-value = 0.01).
Conclusion:
The incidence of tooth decay in students is 59.5%, It is considered that it is still very high that attention should be given to dental hygiene in many aspects and starting from the 1st grade so that students know and understand how to prevent tooth decay.
2.Oral Health Status of Among Thalassemia Children 6-12 Years Old Attending at Children Hospital, Vientiane Capital

Background: :
Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin that causes bone disorders including bone in the skull face and jaws It also affects alignment, causing abnormal bite, which can lead to tooth decay, gingivitis and even inflammation of gums.
Objective::
the aim of this study was to study the oral health of children 6 to 12 years of age with Thalassemia at the Child Hospital, Vientiane Capital.
Methodology: :
This was a cross-sectional study using a quantitative model to describe factors related to oral health in children with Thalassemia aged 6 to12 years that were treated at the Child Hospital. The study population was children with Thalassemia, and the totals of samples size were 375 children. Data was collected through face-to-face interviews on their socio–demographic characteristics, medical information and parental knowledge of oral behavior in oral health care for children. The information was entered into Epi data program version3.1 and using STATA program version 13. Frequency distribution was used to describe the data in percentage, means, averages and standard deviation. Bi-variable analyses were made to measure the associations with Multiple Logistic Regressions, OR at 95% CI and P-value <0.05.
Result::
The result of study showed that above half of children were females (55.5%) and 63.7% were aged between 6 to 8 years. Thalassemia affected the oral health 86.9% who permanent teeth and 92.8% with milk teeth. The factors associated with child oral health that were statistically significant were the 9 to 12 age group (OR = 0.12; 95% CI: 0.05 - 0.25, P = <0.001), parents' behavior regarding oral health care for children (OR = 2.66; 95% CI: 1.28 - 5.52, P = <0.008) and parental behavior regarding child care (seeing dentist) (OR =0.45; 95% CI: 0.23 - 0.89, P=<0.001).
Conclusion:
The proportion of children 6 to 12 years of age with thalassemia and poor oral health was high among both those with permanent teeth and those with milk teeth. That shows the importance of making plans for oral health care and oral health prevention for children admitted the Hospital.
3.Students’ Participation in their Extra-Curriculum Activities at the University of Health Sciences

Background and rationale:
The Institute of Higher Education in Medical Sciences has a key role to play in the made of personnel in response to strategic plans for optimizing health worker staffing. Student participation is an important element in helping to develop the characteristics of a comprehensively able student.
Objective:
To study the students’ participation towards students ‘activities at the University of Health Sciences.
Methodology:
This study was a cross-sectional descriptive study of year 1 – 3 students who gave consent to study. Data were collected by using questionnaires during face-to-face interviews. The data were entered in Epi-data and analyzed by SPSS.
Results:
Of a total of 331 participants, more than half (63.1%) were female. The students’ participation to activities were high (X̅= 3.88 over 5, S.D= 0.54). When considering for each componente, it was found thatn the participation to the academic promotion was high level (X̅= 3.80, S.D= 0.58), to the sports events was at high level ((X̅= 3.91, S.D= 0.65), to the cultural arts was also at high level (X̅= 3.87, S.D= 0.70), and to the volunteer aspect was high level (X̅ = 3.94, S.D= 0.65). Gender segregation for each participation was not statistically significant at the 0.05 level.
Conclusion
The students from faculties have different opinions on participation to extra-curriculum activities particularly on the promotion of academics, sports, arts and culture, with the exception of volunteers.
