ObjectiveTo analyze the distribution characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) constitution and factors associated with hyperuricemia (HUA) in the HUA population, providing a reference for persona-lized prevention and management of HUA. MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted among individuals who had completed both serum uric acid (SUA) testing and TCM constitution identification during health examinations. According to SUA levels, participants were divided into a hyperuricemia group and a normal SUA group; according to the constitution identification results, participants were classified into balanced constitution, single biased constitution, and mixed constitution. The distribution characteristics of TCM constitution were compared between the two groups; participants in the hyperuricemia group were stratified by sex and age (≥18 years and <40 years, ≥40 years), and the distribution characteristics of TCM constitution were compared across different sex and age groups. Logistic regression was used to analyze factors associated with HUA, with further stratified analyses by sex and age. ResultsA total of 10 920 participants were included, comprising 4170 cases (38.19%) in the hyperuricemia group and 6750 cases (61.81%) in the normal serum uric acid group. According to TCM constitution, there were 420 cases (3.85%) with balanced constitution, 6108 cases (55.93%) with single biased constitution, and 4392 cases (40.22%) with mixed constitution. In the hyperuricemia group, there were 80 cases (19.05%) with balanced constitution; 2275 cases (37.25%) with single biased constitution, among which damp-heat constitution (1205 cases, 52.97%), phlegm-dampness constitution (500 cases, 21.98%), and qi-stagnation constitution (181 cases, 7.96%) accounted for relatively high proportions; and 1815 cases (41.33%) with mixed constitution, among which mixed constitution involving phlegm-dampness (51.35%, 932 cases), mixed constitution involving blood stasis (47.00%, 853 cases), and mixed constitution involving damp-heat (41.21%, 748 cases) accounted for relatively high proportions. Logistic regression showed that qi-stagnation constitution (OR=1.68), mixed constitution involving qi-stagnation (OR=1.53), mixed constitution involving phlegm-dampness (OR=1.55), and mixed constitution involving blood stasis (OR=1.50) were independently associated with HUA (P<0.05). Sex-stratified analysis showed that mixed constitution involving phlegm-dampness was positively associated with HUA risk in females; age-stratified analysis showed that, among individuals aged ≥18 and <40 years, qi-stagnation constitution, mixed constitution involving qi stagnation, and mixed constitution involving phlegm-dampness were positively associated with HUA risk (all P<0.05). ConclusionThe prevalence of HUA differs markedly by sex and age. Mixed constitution accounts for a higher proportion of HUA patients. Qi-stagnation constitution, mixed constitution involving qi stagnation, mixed constitution involving phlegm-dampness, and mixed constitution involving blood stasis are associated with HUA. Notably, the specific association of mixed constitution involving phlegm-dampness in females and qi-stagnation constitution in young adults is particularly prominent.

The etiology of tumors is complex and influenced by multiple factors, including the host and environmental conditions. Allergy is primarily driven by the immune response of helper T cell 2 (Th2). Research has shown that the Th2 immune response is closely related to tumors, which is specifically manifested through Th2 antibodies, allergy-related effector cells and mediators within the tumors, as well as tumor immune-related functions. This internal interaction mechanism will increase the complexity and challenges associated with the clinical diagnosis and treatment of tumors and allergy. The formation of allergic constitution is shaped by both congenital and acquired factors, and its physical state is closely linked to the occurrence and progression of allergic diseases. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the relationship between tumors and allergic reactions from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) constitution theory. Based on the four basic principles of the TCM constitution, including endowment inheritance theory, environment constraint theory, body-spirit composition theory, and life process theory, this exploration will focus on four aspects: genetic factors and internal disease causes, inflammatory environments and functional regulation, psychological disorders and emotional pathogenesis, as well as age structure and disease risk. Furthermore, from the perspective of constitution-disease relation of chronic disease prevention, this paper will discuss the significant importance of adjusting allergic constitution to improve both subjective symptoms and objective indicators of allergic reactions in tumor patients.

Optogenetics combines optics and genetic engineering to control specific gene expression and biological functions and has the advantages of precise spatiotemporal control, noninvasiveness, and high efficiency.Genetically modified photosensory sensors are engineered into proteins to modulate conformational changes with light stimulation. Therefore, optogenetic techniques can provide new insights into oral biological processes at different levels, ranging from the subcellular and cellular levels to neural circuits and behavioral models. Here,we introduce the origins of optogenetics and highlight the recent progress of optogenetic approaches in oral and craniofacial research, focusing on the ability to apply optogenetics to the study of basic scientific neural mechanisms and to establish different oral behavioral test models in vivo(orofacial movement, licking, eating, and drinking),such as channelrhodopsin(ChR),archaerhodopsin(Arch),and halorhodopsin from Natronomonas pharaonis(NpHR).We also review the synergic and antagonistic effects of optogenetics in preclinical studies of trigeminal neuralgia and maxillofacial cellulitis. In addition, optogenetic tools have been used to control the neurogenic differentiation of dental pulp stem cells in translational studies.Although the scope of optogenetic tools is increasing, there are limited large animal experiments and clinical studies in dental research.Potential future directions include exploring therapeutic strategies for addressing loss of taste in patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),studying oral bacterial biofilms, enhancing craniomaxillofacial and periodontal tissue regeneration, and elucidating the possible pathogenesis of dry sockets, xerostomia, and burning mouth syndrome.

Mastoparans (MP), a class of α-helix cationic insect-derived antimicrobial peptides, have a broad spectrum of biological activities including inhibiting bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites. Amino acid substitution, peptide modification, peptide chain cyclization, and dosage form modification can enhance the biological activities and target and reduce the toxicity of mastoparans. In this review, we summarize the structure, biological function and modification methods of mastoparans, and prospect the development of antibacterial drugs based on mastoparans, so as to provide reference for the research of mastoparans as a new antibacterial drug.
