The disturbance of the human microbiota influences the occurrence and progression of many diseases. Live therapeutic bacteria, with their genetic manipulability, anaerobic tendencies, and immunomodulatory properties, are emerging as promising therapeutic agents. However, their clinical applications face challenges in maintaining activity and achieving precise spatiotemporal release, particularly in the harsh gastrointestinal environment. This review highlights the innovative bacterial functionalized encapsulation strategies developed through advances in physicochemical and biological techniques. We comprehensively review how bacterial encapsulation strategies can be used to provide physical barriers and enhanced adhesion properties to live microorganisms, while introducing superior material properties to live bacteria. In addition, this review outlines how bacterial surface coating can facilitate targeted delivery and precise spatiotemporal release of live bacteria. Furthermore, it elucidates their potential applications for treating different diseases, along with critical perspectives on challenges in clinical translation. This review comprehensively analyzes the connection between functionalized bacterial encapsulation and innovative biomedical applications, providing a theoretical reference for the development of next-generation bacterial therapies.

The impeller, as a key component of artificial heart pumps, experiences high shear stress due to its rapid rotation, which may lead to hemolysis. To enhance the hemolytic performance of artificial heart pumps and identify the optimal combination of blade parameters, an optimization design for existing pump blades is conducted. The number of blades, outlet angle, and blade thickness were selected as design variables, with the maximum shear stress within the pump serving as the optimization objective. A back propagation (BP) neural network prediction model was established using existing simulation data, and a grey wolf optimization algorithm was employed to optimize the blade parameters. The results indicated that the optimized blade parameters consisted of 7 impeller blades, an outlet angle of 25 °, and a blade thickness of 1.2 mm; this configuration achieved a maximum shear stress value of 377 Pa-representing a reduction of 16% compared to the original model. Simulation analysis revealed that in comparison to the original model, regions with high shear stress at locations such as the outer edge, root, and base significantly decreased following optimization efforts, thus leading to marked improvements in hemolytic performance. The coupling algorithm employed in this study has significantly reduced the workload associated with modeling and simulation, while also enhancing the performance of optimization objectives. Compared to traditional optimization algorithms, it demonstrates distinct advantages, thereby providing a novel approach for investigating parameter optimization issues related to centrifugal artificial heart pumps.

We report the management and maternal and neonatal outcomes of four cases of delayed interval delivery after cervical cerclage in twin pregnancies, who hospitalized in Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital from year 2017 to 2018. Four patients with dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancies all presented with gradually weakened uterine contractions after spontaneous vaginal delivery of twin 1. After informed consent, the patients received cervical cerclage at 2 to 3 days after delivery when the maternal and fetal conditions were stable, to delay delivery of twin 2. The gestational weeks at delivery of twin 1 were 25 +4, 23 +1, 27 +1, and 23 weeks, which were noted for 30 +1, 32 +6, 31 +4, and 24 weeks for twin 2, respectively. Delayed delivery intervals were 32, 69, 31 and 7 d. Three of the four twin 2 survived, with Apgar score ≥ 8 at 1 minute and birth weight of 1 390, 2 290 and 1 620 g. During a 2-year follow-up, no developmental abnormalities were observed in the children, and no serious maternal complications were found, including severe infection, bleeding or cervical laceration.

Objective To compare the effect on the flow conditions of adhesives and the retention force of restorations among different cement?retained methods of implant?supported fixed prostheses. Methods Four common cement?retained methods were selected, including the occlusal hole for screw access (OH), the lingual hole for adhesives overflow (LH), the resin replica for titanium abutment (RR), and the traditional cement?retained method (the control group). The adhesive used in this study was resin?modified glass ionomer cement. The two?dimensional analysis models of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) were established. The flow conditions of adhesives in the adhesion process was analyzed by the CFD analysis. The internal filling ratio and the amount of neck overflow of adhesives below the edge of the prosthesis were calculated. Ten zirconia prostheses in each group were processed and cemented. The retention force was examined by mechanical tensile experiments in vitro . Results The CFD analysis showed the internal filling ratio of adhesives from high to low was the LH group, the OH group, the RR group and the control group. The amount of neck overflow of adhesives below the edge of the prosthesis from less to more was the RR group, the OH group, the LH group and the control group. The retention force was (240.7± 33.9) N in the control group, (278.2±59.1) N in the OH group, (292.9±47.9) N in the LH group, and (262.8± 59.4) N in the RR group. There was a statistically significant difference in the retention force between the LH group and the control group (P=0.029). There was no significant difference among the other groups (P> 0.05). Conclusions The modified cement?retained methods can effectively reduce the amount of neck overflow of adhesives, and improve the filling condition of adhesive in the adhesive clearance to ensure the retention force of the prostheses. Clinically, the appropriate modified cement?retained method should be selected according to the three?dimensional position of the implant and the position of prosthetic margin.

As the diversity center of Epimedium, China possesses about 50 species. Epimedium plants have been used as herb-medicine for more than 2000 years in China. In recent years, the price of herba epimedii has kept high with the increase in the kinds and quantity of medicine and health products made from herba epimedii. The herba epimedii mainly depends on wild resources, which has led to a sharp decrease in the wild resources due to excessive collection in the field. At present, the supply of the wild resources of Epimedium is far from meeting the demand of production. In this paper, the Global Medicinal Plant Information Geography System (GMPGIS) was used to predict the suitable regions for planting herba epimedii based on climate and soil data in the distribution region of the wild Epimedium. The wild germplasm resources of Chinese Epimedium and the existing three excellent cultivators (Zhongke Jianye 1, Zhongke Qianbei 1 and Zhongke Wushan 1) were also been reviewed and introduced. The pollution-free and precision cultivation system of the herba epimdii, including the selection of planting base, soil complex improvement, seedlings breeding, rational application of fertilizer, comprehensive control of disease and precise field management, were discussed, which would shed light in guiding the pollution- free planting of herba epimedii, and is of great implication for industrial development of herba epimedii.
