Lactylation, a recently identified post-translational modification of proteins, is induced by lactic acid and can occur at multiple lysine residues in both histone and non-histone proteins. This modification plays a role in disease pathogenesis by affecting transcriptional regulation, mitochondrial metabolism, and immune inflammation. Significant advancements have been made in understanding the mechanisms of lactylation in various ophthalmic diseases, including retinal neovascularization, uveitis, melanoma, and myopia. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the relationship between lactic acid and lactylation, the regulatory mechanisms of lactylation, and the role of lactylation in different ocular diseases. Additionally, it addresses current research limitations and future directions, which is of great significance to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of lactylation in eye diseases and improving the diagnosis and targeted treatment of these conditions.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of Compound Fipronil Spot-on Solution in repelling canine ticks.Methods A total of 140 dogs infested with ticks were randomly selected from regions in southern and northern China and assigned to four groups:southern test drug group,southern control drug group,northern test drug group,and northern control drug group.Each group comprised 35 dogs.Each dog was administered the prescribed dose.The number of ticks was counted on days 1,7,14,21,and 28 following the administration.The negative conversion and average reduction rates of the tick population were then subjected to statistical analyse.Results The mean efficacy of the test drug was 100%in both the southern and northern cohorts,28 days post-treatment.The control drug showed comparable efficacy,reaching a mean reduction of 100%in both regions by the same time point.No additional clinical manifestations or adverse events were observed across all treated dogs.Conclusions Compound Fipronil Spot-on Solutions effectively treats and prevents ticks in dogs in different regions of China.A single dose remains effective for up to 28 days,thus providing a convenient,effective solution.

Glial-mesenchymal transition(GMT)is a biological process of transdifferentiation where endothelial cells gradually adopt the phenotypic characteristics of mesenchymal cells under the influence of various factors. GMT is closely associated with retinal fibrosis diseases. Müller cells, the predominant retinal macroglia, undergo activation and transdifferentiation in response to diverse stimuli and pathological conditions. Researches indicate that GMT plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of diseases such as diabetic retinopathy(DR), idiopathic epiretinal membrane(iERM), age-related macular degeneration(ARMD), and proliferative vitreoretinopathy(PVR). Although the exact mechanism of GMT is not well understood, it has showed great promise as potential target. Clarifying the research progress of GMT provides new ideas in the early diagnosis and treatments of retinal diseases, which is clinically and scientifically important for revealing interactive effects of cell transdifferentiation families in retinal diseases.

Objective:To clarify the spatio-temporal characteristics and changing trends of provincial health resources and medical pressure,and to provide suggestions for the high-quality development of medical and health services in China.Methods:Based on the panel data of 31 provincial administrative units from 2010 to 2020,a comprehensive evaluation system of provincial health resources and medical pressure was constructed.The global entropy method and exploratory spatial analysis were used to reveal the spatio-temporal differentiation and correlation pattern,and the Tapio decoupling index was illustrated to explain the evolution characteristics and trends.Results:During the observation period,health resources and medical pressure in the vast majority of provinces in China rose steadily,with positive spatial correlation and agglomeration,and a close relationship with economic development and population demand;the mainstream decoupling state of the country shifted from a negative decoupling to a positive decoupling,with an obvious progressive decoupling trend,and the development of regional health continued to improve.Conclusions and suggestions:Provinces need to take into account the status quo of health development in their own provinces,focus on the spatio-temporal coupling of elements and structures,and optimize the structure of health resource allocation and enhance the resilience of the health system as a means of bringing into play the comparative advantages of the regional health system.

Objective:To investigate the perioperative alterations and management of coagulation function in patients of massive blood transfusion during retroperitoneal tumor (RT)resection.Methods:Fourty-seven RT patients at Peking University International Hospital from Jan 2016 to Dec 2021 undergoing resection with massive blood transfusion more than 20 U within 24 h were reviewed for coagulation function before and after surgery.Results:Intraoperative bleeding was 3 000-25 800 ml, 10 patients had blood loss ≥10 000 ml. During the operation, (25.3±9.9) U of red blood cells were transfused, (2 720±1 369) ml plasma transfused, and (2.4±3.3) U platelets were transfused in 6 patients. Fourty-five patients received intraoperative albumin of (79.5±46.5) g; All 47 patients received fibrinogen of (2.3±1.3) g; Prothrombin complex was given in 45 patients (1 205±807) U. Preoperative hemoglobin was statistically different compared to postoperatively and days 1, 3 and 5 ( W=1 790, P<0.001; W=1 672, P<0.001; W=1 704, P<0.001; W=1 486, P=0.004);As with platelets, the difference was also statistically significant compared to postoperative days 1, 3, and 5 ( W=2 153, P<0.001; W=2 092, P<0.001; W=1 732, P<0.001); Preoperative albumin was different compared to postoperative days 1 and 3 ( W=1 568, P<0.001; W=1 578, P<0.001,); Preoperative fibrinogen was different compared to postoperative day 1 ( W=1 964, P<0.001). PT and APTT were prolonged on postoperative days 1 and 3 ( W=628, P<0.001, W=804, P=0.023) ( W=661, P<0.001, W=796, P=0.02). Patient's preoperative fibrin degradation products and D-dimer were above the normal value and were higher on postoperative days 3 and 5 ( W=498, P<0.001, W=345, P<0.001). Conclusions:Coagulation disorders occur perioperatively in patients with massive transfusion while undergoing surgery for RT.The implementation of ratiional transfusion strategy and close postoperative survey and management of coagulation dysfunction help avoid the coagulation related morbidities.

Neovascular eye disease, which is characterized by pathological neovascular formation, is a major disease threatening visual health. In recent years, neovascular eye disease has become a serious public health problem and attracted widespread attention, with the incidence increasing year by year. Pathological neovascularization is formed under the mutual inclusion and interaction of a variety of cellular components and pathological factors. It is often difficult to achieve ideal therapeutic effect if we intervene only one of the factors. Therefore, it is in an urgent need to conduct a more in-depth study in the pathological process of neovascularization and explore new factors that regulate neovascularization in order to find more effective treatments of neovascular eye diseases. In recent years, pericyte has been proved to play important roles in the occurrence and development of various neovascular eye diseases and interventions for pericytes will affect the pathological process of these diseases. This article will review the specific roles of pericytes in some common neovascular eye diseases and the factors regulating pericytes in these diseases, which would provide new ideas in the treatment of neovascular eye diseases.

AIM: To compare the safety and effectiveness of pars plane filtering(PPF)and trabeculectomy(TRA)on neovascular glaucoma(NVG).

METHODS: This retrospective comparison was done in 12 patients(one eye with NVG in each)who were treated with PPF surgery and 15 patients who were treated during the same period with TRA, one eye was treated in each patient. Intraocular pressure(IOP), complete surgical success rate, peripheral anterior chamber depth(PACD), postoperative anterior chamber morphology, visual acuity and complications were observed and compared between the two groups.

RESULTS: The IOP was significantly reduced at each time point after the surgery 1, 3d, 1wk, 1, 3mo after operation(P<0.05), and there was no significant between-group difference at any time point(P >0.05). The rate of complete success observed 3mo after operation was superior in PPF group(92% vs 53%, P<0.05). PACD was found to be deeper at 1wk after the operation in PPF group as compared with the values before the operation and was deeper than that in TRA group(P<0.05); while this comparison in TRA group showed no significant change(P>0.05). After the operation, the anterior chamber angle was open and the anterior chamber was deepened in PPF group. No significant changes in visual acuity before and after the operation within each group and between groups were observed 3mo after the surgery(P>0.05). The incidence of postoperative hemorrhage in anterior chamber was lower in PPF group(8% vs 47%, P<0.05).

CONCLUSION: Both PPF and TRA surgery can successfully control IOP of NVG. However, PPF surgery appeared to be superior as having a higher complete success rate. In addition, PPF surgery makes the anterior chamber deeper and wider, and result in fewer severe postoperative complications.

Wound age estimation is one of the major tasks in forensic practice. However, relatively accurate estimation of the wound age is still a conundrum and research spotlight world-widely. Studies show that microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in the whole process of the skin wound repair, and miRNAs, as biomarkers, might be used to estimate the time of skin injury owing to their characteristic advantage. This paper summarizes the miRNA fundamental function, properties, current research progress in the estimation of wound age, and its limitations, and put forward prospect of potential application and research based on miRNAs in estimation of wound age.

A new method for qualitative and quantitative analysis of Rhodobryum giganteum by using the nonlinear oscillating chemical was established for improving the quality control standard of R. giganteum. Its potential(E)/time(t) curve was recorded by electrochemical workstation in the oscillation reaction system of BrO~-_3-Ce(SO_4)_2-H_2SO_4-malonic acid/tartaric acid. The nonlinear oscillating chemical fingerprints were investigated for repeatability, and it was found that the RSD values of the four characteristic parameters of R. giganteum were less than 4.1%, indicating a good repeatability and high precision of this experiment. After optimizing the experimental parameters such as particle size, rotation speed and temperature, a new method based on nonlinear oscillating chemical was used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of R. giganteum. The results showed that there was a good linear relationship between the induction time/the period of oscillation and the dosage of herbs(0.1-1.1 g), with the relative coefficients of 0.978 and 0.975, respectively. Besides, the highest potential showed a nonlinear relationship with the dosage of herbs, with the relative coefficient of 0.999. This method was also used to discriminate the R. giganteum and R. roseum. They were similar in appearance, but their fingerprints were quite different. Independent sample t test results showed that there were significant differences in the oscillation time, the maximum amplitude and the induction time, providing a basis for the identification of the basic sources of Herba Rhodobryi Rasei.
Quality Control

OBJECTIVE: To select and define the clinical questions and outcomes of Guideline for the Emergency Treatment of Anaphylaxis. METHODS: A draft including clinical questions, which could be divided into foreground questions and background questions, and outcomes was drawn and revised by the secretary group for the guideline referring to the present guidelines with the guidance of a panel consisting of 7 experienced clinical medicine, pharmacy and nursing experts. Foreground questions and outcomes of the draft were voted into a final version after three rounds of counsels of 22 experienced medicine, pharmacy and nursing clinical experts using Delphi method including 3 rounds of inquiry. And the background questions were directly included in the guideline after the 22 experts' thorough revising. The research was carried out under the supervision of method ologists. Active coefficient, coefficient of variation and the frequencies of each score were calculated for quality control. RESULTS: The draft of 34 foreground questions, 6 background questions and 6 outcomes was finally drawn up after thorough selecting and consulting. The 6 background questions revised by the clinical experts were all included. After three rounds of Delphi method, 28 pivotal clinical questions covering the diagnosis, preparation for the treatment, treatment and administration after the treatment, and 6 outcomes were defined and included for the guideline. The rest of the foreground questions, 4 of which were recognized as essential and 2 as important, were excluded from the guideline and left for further revising or updating. As for the outcomes, 4 of them were recognized as critical and the rest as important. The experts contributing to the research were active as the active coefficient reached 100%, and the degree of consensus was fine as the frequencies of the feedback scoring equal to or greater than 4 for all the 28 foreground questions included were greater than 75% and the result was settled in the first round. And 2 outcomes, fatality rate and severity, reached a higher degree of consensus with coefficient of variation less than 15%. CONCLUSION After thorough and rigorous selecting, the clinical questions and outcomes to be included in the Guideline for the Emergency Treatment of Anaphylaxis were finally selected and defined via Delphi method, guiding the future development of the guidelines.
