1.Qualitative study on the illness experience of elderly female patients with stress urinary incontinence based on the social ecological system theory

Objective:To explore the genuine inner experiences of elderly female patients with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and provide strategies to improve their quality of life.Methods:Using the social ecological system theory as a framework, this study employed a descriptive phenomenological design. Interviews and data collection were conducted with 20 elderly female SUI patients who were treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from August 2022 to June 2023. Colaizzi's analysis method was used for theme extraction.Results:A total of three themes and seven sub-themes were identified: microsystem (changes in comfort, severe negative emotions), mesosystem (severe social isolation, lack of family support system), and macrosystem (lack of informational support, economic dependence, and immature primary healthcare technology) .Conclusions:Medical staff should strengthen psychological counseling for elderly female SUI patients, enhance family support, reinforce health education, and promote public awareness to improve the quality of life of elderly female SUI patients.
