Objective To develop a risk prediction model for ischemic stroke in symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis(ICAS)patients based on high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging(HR-MRI)and arterial spin labeling(ASL)imaging. Methods A total of 142 patients were included and divided into acute ischemic stroke(AIS)and transient ischemic attack(TIA)groups based on stroke occurrence.Clinical risk factors, plaque characteristics, and arterial transit artifact(ATA)presence on ASL images were compared between the two groups.Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed, incorporating clinical risk factors, plaque characteristics, and double post labeling delay(PLD)ATA presence. The predictive value of different models was compared using receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve and DeLong tests. Results Hypertension, positive lumen remodeling, plaque enhance-ment rate,1.5 s-ATA presence, and 2.5 s-ATA presence were independent risk factors for AIS(P<0.05).The combination of HR-MRI and ASL imaging predicted AIS most effectively[area under the curve(AUC)=0.908;95% confidence interval(CI)0.862-0.954].No significant difference was found between the prediction performances of HR-MRI and ASL(95%CI-0.041-0.082,Z=0.659,P=0.509).Conclusion ASL is more convenient than HR-MRI for predicting ischemic stroke in ICAS patients.A model combining plaque characteristics and ATA presence effectively predicts AIS occurrence.

Aim To investigate the effect of oroxylin A(OA)on apoptosis in Ishikawa cell line of endometrial cancer and the underlying mechanism through the phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase/protein kinase B(PI3K/AKT)signaling pathway. Methods Ishikawa cells were treated with different concentrations of OA(0,4,8,10,12,and 20 μmol·L-1)for 24 h-72 h,the cell viability was detected by CCK-8 assay, apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry, and the protein ex-pression levels of B-cell lymphoma-2(Bcl-2),Bcl-2-associated X protein(Bax),PI3K/AKT,recombinant cytochrome P450 1B1(CYP1B1),and catechol-O-methyltransferase(COMT)were detected by Western blot technique. Results OA inhibited the prolifera-tion of Ishikawa cells in a concentration-and time-de-pendent manner.Compared with the blank control group, the expression of Bax protein increased signifi-cantly,while the expression of Bcl-2 protein decreased significantly with the increase of OA concentration. The expression of COMT protein increased significant-ly,while the expression of CYP1B1 protein decreased significantly.PI3K/AKT:IGF-1(PI3 K agonist)sup-plementation reversed the effect, the expression of COMT protein significantly decreased, and the expres-sion of CYP1B1 protein significantly increased.Con-clusions OA exerts anti-tumor effects in Ishikawa cells of endometrial cancer, which may be related to cell apoptosis mediated by the inhibition of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.

With the establishment of bio-psycho-social medical model, both social and psychological factors play an important role in the occurrence, development and treatment of diseases.Hypertension is a common chronic multiple disease in China, and patients are often complicated with depression and other e-motional disorders. The interaction between hypertension and depression significantly increases the risk of poor prognosis.Current studies have shown a bidirectional promoting relationship between hypertension and depression, and they have some com-mon pathogenesis. However, the specific mechanism of their co-morbidity has not been fully elucidated.Renin-angiotensin sys-tem(RAS)plays an important role in the regulation of hyperten-sion and depression and other emotions. It is composed of two antagonistic pathways. The balance is maintained by angioten-sin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2).Therefore,this article reviews the relationship and mechanism of RAS in hypertension,depres-sion and comorbid states,in order to provide new treatment ide-as for hypertension and depression.

Objective:To investigate the accuracy of risk perception for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) among community residents in Jining and analyze its influencing factors. Methods:Using a multistage cluster random sampling method, community residents from eight communities in Jining were selected between September 2022 and December 2023. Data were collected using a general demographic questionnaire, objective ASCVD risk assessment, the Chinese version of the Attitudes and Beliefs about Cardiovascular Disease Risk Questionnaire-Chinese Version (ABCD-C), the 2018 National Health Literacy Monitoring Survey, and a Self-reported Health Status Questionnaire. Results:Among 955 residents, 325 accurately estimated their ASCVD risk, 173 underestimated it, and 457 overestimated it. Education level and health literacy were influencing factors for overestimating ASCVD risk ( P<0.05), while education level, health literacy, family history of ASCVD, and self-reported health status were influencing factors for underestimating ASCVD risk ( P<0.05) . Conclusions:A significant proportion of Jining community residents underestimated their ASCVD risk. Nurses conducting ASCVD primary prevention education should provide tailored health education based on the local characteristics and cultural background of Jining. Special attention should be given to residents with lower education levels and health literacy, as well as those without a family history of ASCVD or with self-perceived good health, to prevent underestimation of their ASCVD risk.

This study explores whether the current external quality assessment (EQA) level and acceptable bias for basic semen analysis in China are clinically useful. We collected data of semen EQA from Andrology laboratories in the Hunan Province (China) in 2022 and searched for data in the published literature from January 2000 to December 2023 in China. On the basis of these data, we analyzed the coefficients of variation and acceptable biases of different quality control materials for basic semen analysis through robust statistics. We compared these findings with quality specifications based on biological variation from optimal, desirable, and minimum levels of bias to seek a unified and more suitable semen EQA bias evaluation standard for China's national conditions. Different sources of semen quality control material exhibited considerable variation in acceptable biases among laboratories, ranging from 8.2% to 56.9%. A total of 50.0% of the laboratories met the minimum quality specifications for progressive motility (PR), whereas 100.0% and 75.0% of laboratories met only the minimum quality specifications for sperm concentration and total motility (nonprogressive [NP] + PR), respectively. The Z value for sperm concentration and PR+NP was equivalent to the desirable performance specification, whereas the Z value for PR was equivalent only to the minimum performance specification. This study highlights the feasibility of operating external quality assessment schemes for basic semen analysis using quality specifications based on biological variation. These specifications should be unified among external quality control (EQC) centers based on biological variation.

Biomedical and Environmental Sciences 2025;38(2):178-193
OBJECTIVE:
To explore and quantify the association of hot night exposure during the sperm development period (0-90 lag days) with semen quality.
METHODS:
A total of 6,640 male sperm donors from 6 human sperm banks in China during 2014-2020 were recruited in this multicenter study. Two indices (i.e., hot night excess [HNE] and hot night duration [HND]) were used to estimate the heat intensity and duration during nighttime. Linear mixed models were used to examine the association between hot nights and semen quality parameters.
RESULTS:
The exposure-response relationship revealed that HNE and HND during 0-90 days before semen collection had a significantly inverse association with sperm motility. Specifically, a 1 °C increase in HNE was associated with decreased sperm progressive motility of 0.0090 (95% confidence interval [ CI]: -0.0147, -0.0033) and decreased total motility of 0.0094 (95% CI: -0.0160, -0.0029). HND was significantly associated with reduced sperm progressive motility and total motility of 0.0021 (95% CI: -0.0040, -0.0003) and 0.0023 (95% CI: -0.0043, -0.0002), respectively. Consistent results were observed at different temperature thresholds on hot nights.
CONCLUSION
Our findings highlight the need to mitigate nocturnal heat exposure during spermatogenesis to maintain optimal semen quality.
