OBJECTIVE: To identify the key features of facial and tongue images associated with anemia in female populations, establish anemia risk-screening models, and evaluate their performance. METHODS: A total of 533 female participants (anemic and healthy) were recruited from Shuguang Hospital. Facial and tongue images were collected using the TFDA-1 tongue and face diagnosis instrument. Color and texture features from various parts of facial and tongue images were extracted using Face Diagnosis Analysis System (FDAS) and Tongue Diagnosis Analysis System version 2.0 (TDAS v2.0). Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression was used for feature selection. Ten machine learning models and one deep learning model (ResNet50V2 + Conv1D) were developed and evaluated. RESULTS: Anemic women showed lower a-values, higher L- and b-values across all age groups. Texture features analysis showed that women aged 30-39 with anemia had higher angular second moment (ASM)and lower entropy (ENT) values in facial images, while those aged 40-49 had lower contrast (CON), ENT, and MEAN values in tongue images but higher ASM. Anemic women exhibited age-related trends similar to healthy women, with decreasing L-values and increasing a-, b-, and ASM-values. LASSO identified 19 key features from 62. Among classifiers, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model achieved the best performance [area under the curve (AUC): 0.849, accuracy: 0.781]. The ResNet50V2 model achieved comparable results [AUC: 0.846, accuracy: 0.818]. CONCLUSION Differences in facial and tongue images suggest that color and texture features can serve as potential TCM phenotype and auxiliary diagnostic indicators for female anemia.

Objective:To analyze the risk factors of in-hospital mortality in patients with femoral neck fracture and establish a prediction model for in-hospital mortality.Methods:From 2014 to 2023, a total of 4,028,102 hospitalized patients from six directly affiliated hospitals and two co-constructed affiliated hospitals of Peking University were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 4,744 patients were hospitalized with femoral neck fractures, including 1,486 males and 3,258 females, aged 74±13.3 years (range, 19-103 years). Gender, age, length of hospital stay, hospitalization costs, preoperative comorbidities, treatment methods, anesthesia methods, and in-hospital mortality were extracted from the medical records. According to the presence or absence of in-hospital death, the patients were divided into death group and survival group. The differences in general data and clinical indicators between the two groups were compared, and the indicators with statistically significant differences were included in binary logistic regression analysis to screen the risk factors for in-hospital death in patients with femoral neck fracture. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for predicting in-hospital mortality of femoral neck fracture was drawn, and the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated.Results:There were 30 cases in the death group and 4,714 cases in the survival group, with a mortality rate of 0.63%. Among the dead patients, 20 had undergone hip replacement, and 10 had received non-surgical treatment. In the death group, age ( t=7.524, P<0.001), length of hospital stay ( t=3.802, P<0.001), hospitalisation cost ( t=3.961, P<0.001), rate of non-surgical treatment ( P<0.001), anaesthesia modality ( P=0.002), dementia ( P=0.045), malignant tumour ( P<0.001), renal insufficiency (χ 2=27.901, P<0.001), hypertension (χ 2=4.155, P=0.042), cerebral infarction (χ 2=8.271, P=0.004), urinary infections ( P=0.043), electrolyte disorders (χ 2=16.660, P<0.001), post-cholecystectomy ( P=0.070), abnormal liver function ( P=0.015), schizophrenia ( P=0.062), myocardial infarction (χ 2=19.057, P<0.001), diabetes mellitus with end-organ damage ( P=0.036), congestive heart failure (χ 2=93.122, P<0.001), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (χ 2=27.714, P<0.001) were greater than in the survival group, and the differences were statistically significance ( P<0.10). Bicategory logistic regression analysis showed age ( OR=1.08, P=0.008), non-surgical treatment ( OR=2.87, P=0.017), combined malignancy ( OR=9.35, P<0.001), renal insufficiency ( OR=4.07, P=0.004), hypertension ( OR=4.45, P=0.007), cerebral infarction ( OR=2.42, P=0.040), electrolyte disorders ( OR=4.29, P=0.009), schizophrenia ( OR=41.23, P=0.002), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ( OR=3.84, P=0.002), and congestive heart failure ( OR=7.08, P<0.001) were the independent risk factors for in-hospital mortality of femoral neck fracture. The AUC and its 95% confidence interval (CI) for the predictive model were 0.908(0.84, 0.97), indicating excellent predictive value. Conclusion:Elderly, non-surgical treatment, malignant tumor, renal insufficiency, hypertension, cerebral infarction, electrolyte disturbance, schizophrenia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure are associated with higher in-hospital mortality in patients with femoral neck fracture.

Emerging evidence suggests that dysbiosis of the gut microbiota is associated with the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD), a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder. The microbiota-gut-brain axis plays a crucial role in the development and progression of PD, and numerous studies have demonstrated the potential therapeutic benefits of modulations in the intestinal microbiota. This review provides insights into the characterization of the gut microbiota in patients with PD and highlights associations with clinical symptoms and underlying mechanisms. The discussion underscores the increased influence of the gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of PD. While the relationship is not fully elucidated, existing research demonstrates a strong correlation between changes in the composition of gut microbiota and disease development, and further investigation is warranted to explain the specific underlying mechanisms.

ObjectiveTo analyze the literature related to traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） pharmacology of Institute of Chinese Materia and Medica， China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences （hereinafter referred to as "Institute of Chinese Materia and Medica"）， and evaluate the research status， development trend， influence of discipline members， and patent technology of this field. MethodThe papers from 2002 to 2024 in the databases of CNKI and Web of Science （WOS） were searched， whose first authors or corresponding authors are from the Institute of Chinese Materia and Medica， and CiteSpace 6.3.R6 was adopted for visual analysis of the annual number of publications and keywords. Additionally， the total number of published papers， citation times， and other measurement parameters of discipline members of TCM pharmacology in the institute were counted. After obtaining the h index， the academic track was calculated， and the academic influence of discipline members was quantitatively evaluated from the aspects of the academic track T and highly cited papers. Meanwhile， patent data from 2005 to 2024 of TCM pharmacology in the studied institute were retrieved from the HimmPat patent database， and Excel 2022 and Origin 2021 were utilized to conduct visual analysis on the overall patent application trend and technology composition. ResultIn the past 20 years or more， the annual publication of academic papers has been on the rise generally， and the key words include "animal model"， "mechanism of action"， "network pharmacology" and so on. The studies focus on the innovative methods of TCM pharmacological mechanisms， basic research on TCM prevention and treatment of major non-infectious diseases， and the prevention and treatment of respiratory viral diseases. The academic track T of the discipline members of TCM pharmacology in the Institute of Chinese Materia and Medica is positive， with sound personal influence. In recent years， the patent application trend has increased significantly， mainly concentrating on A61K patents and G01N subcategories， and IPC large-group analysis shows that the main technical applications are mainly in A61K36， A61K31， and other fields. ConclusionTCM pharmacology in the institute develops steadily and the academic influence of the discipline members is still sound， with fruitful patent achievements. In the future， research on pharmacological discipline innovation and new drug research and development can be enhanced， and multidisciplinary integration studies should be carried out to promote TCM modernization.

ObjectiveExisting artificial vision devices can be divided into two types: implanted devices and extracorporeal devices, both of which have some disadvantages. The former requires surgical implantation, which may lead to irreversible trauma, while the latter has some defects such as relatively simple instructions, limited application scenarios and relying too much on the judgment of artificial intelligence (AI) to provide enough security. Here we propose a system that has voice interaction and can convert surrounding environment information into tactile commands on head and neck. Compared with existing extracorporeal devices, our device can provide a larger capacity of information and has advantages such as lower cost, lower risk, suitable for a variety of life and work scenarios. MethodsWith the latest remote wireless communication and chip technologies, microelectronic devices, cameras and sensors worn by the user, as well as the huge database and computing power in the cloud, the backend staff can get a full insight into the scenario, environmental parameters and status of the user remotely (for example, across the city) in real time. In the meanwhile, by comparing the cloud database and in-memory database and with the help of AI-assisted recognition and manual analysis, they can quickly develop the most reasonable action plan and send instructions to the user. In addition, the backend staff can provide humanistic care and emotional sustenance through voice dialogs. ResultsThis study originally proposes the concept of “remote virtual companion” and demonstrates the related hardware and software as well as test results. The system can not only achieve basic guide functions, for example, helping a person with visual impairment to shop in supermarkets, find seats at cafes, walk on the streets, construct complex puzzles, and play cards, but also can meet the demand for fast-paced daily tasks such as cycling. ConclusionExperimental results show that this “remote virtual companion” is applicable for various scenarios and demands. It can help blind people with their travels, shopping and entertainment, or accompany the elderlies with their trips, wilderness explorations, and travels.

ObjectiveTo explore the application effect of Jianpi Huoxue prescription combined with acupuncture in patients with chronic atrophic gastritis （CAG） of gastric blood stasis type. MethodA total of 86 patients with CAG admitted to Wuhan First Hospital from November 2021 to March 2023 were selected and randomly divided into two groups. The control group was treated with conventional Western medicine， while the observation group was treated with Jianpi Huoxue prescription combined with acupuncture. The clinical efficacy， traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） syndrome score， pathological score， negative conversion rate of Helicobacter pylori （Hp）， inflammatory indicators ［neutrophils/lymphocytes （NLR） and interleukin （IL）-1β］， changes in levels of gastric protease （PG） Ⅰ， PG Ⅰ/PG Ⅱ， and gastrin-17 （G-17）， and drug safety during treatment were observed after treatment in both groups. ResultAfter treatment， the total effective rate of the observation group ［95.35% （41/43）］ was significantly better than that of the control group ［79.07% （34/43）］， and the difference was statistically significant （χ²=5.108， P<0.05）. After treatment， the scores of the primary and secondary TCM syndromes in the observation group and the control group were significantly decreased （P<0.05）. After treatment， the scores of primary and secondary TCM syndromes in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group （P<0.05）. After treatment， the pathological scores of gastric mucosa atrophy， activity， chronic inflammation， intestinal metaplasia， and dysplasia were significantly lower in the observation group and control group （P<0.05）. After treatment， the pathological scores of gastric mucosa atrophy， activity， chronic inflammation， intestinal metaplasia， and dysplasia in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group （P<0.05）. After treatment， the Hp conversion rate in the observation group was significantly increased compared with the control group （P<0.05）. After treatment， the levels of inflammatory indicators NLR and IL-1β in the observation group and control group were significantly lower （P<0.05）， and the levels of inflammatory indicators NLR and IL-1β in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group （P<0.05）. After treatment， the levels of PGI and PGⅠ/PGⅡ in the observation group and control group were significantly higher （P<0.05）， and the levels of PGI and PGⅠ/PGⅡ in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group （P<0.05）. After treatment， the G-17 level of the observation group and the control group was different at different time points （P<0.05）， and the G-17 level of the observation group was higher at different time points than that of the control group （P<0.05）. The G-17 level of the observation group had an increasing trend compared with the control group （P<0.05）. There was no significant difference in the risk of adverse reactions between the two groups. ConclusionThe combination of Jianpi Huoxue prescription and acupuncture can effectively alleviate symptoms， increase Hp negative conversion rate， inhibit inflammation， and regulate PG and G-17 levels in CAG patients， thus controlling or even reversing gastric mucosal atrophy and reducing the probability of its progression to gastric cancer.

Inflammation is involved in the development of various acute and chronic diseases in the body. Sustained inflammatory responses are key driving factors for diseases such as cancer， neurodegenerative diseases， cardiovascular diseases， metabolic syndrome， inflammatory bowel disease， and arthritis. Therefore， finding anti-inflammatory drugs is crucial for the prevention and treatment of various diseases. In recent years， there has been increasing attention to finding natural drugs with minimal toxic side effects. Lonicerae Japonicae Flos and Lonicerae Flos， as traditional Chinese medicines potent in clearing heat and removing toxins， have strong biological activity and multiple pharmacological effects. They are widely distributed in the plant world and have significant medicinal value. With the continuous advancement of the research on Lonicerae Japonicae Flos and Lonicerae Flos， they have been widely used in the medical field and possess great development potential. Currently， research mainly focuses on the anti-inflammatory mechanisms of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos and Lonicerae Flos， while systematic summaries of their anti-inflammatory active ingredients are rare. Therefore， this paper focuses on the differential analysis of the anti-inflammatory active components of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos and Lonicerae Flos. In addition， it reviewed the possible mechanisms by which extracts and active ingredients of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos and Lonicerae Flos may exert anti-inflammatory effects through various pathways， such as influencing the release of cellular inflammatory factors， regulating inflammatory signaling pathways such as nuclear factor-κB （NF-κB）， mitogen-activated protein kinase （MAPK）， signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 （STAT3）， MAPK/extracellular signal-regulated kinase （ERK）/c-Jun N-terminal kinase （JNK）， phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase （PI3K）/protein kinase B （Akt）/NF-κB， and Janus kinase （JAK）/signal transducer and activator of transcription （STAT） signaling pathways， increasing antioxidant stress capacity， enhancing immune defense capabilities， and improving intestinal microbiota， aiming to provide a theoretical basis for the rational clinical application of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos and Lonicerae Flos.

BACKGROUND:Acellular vascular scaffolds can mimic the microstructure and function of native blood vessels,but some extracellular matrix loss occurs during their preparation,which affects their hemocompatibility.Therefore,it is necessary to modify them to improve their hemocompatibility. OBJECTIVE:To assess the hemocompatibility of acellular vascular scaffold prepared by Triton-x100/heparin sodium treatment. METHODS:The abdominal aorta was taken from SD rats and randomly divided into control and experimental groups.The control group was treated with Triton-x100 for 48 hours.The experimental group was treated with Triton-x100 for 48 hours and then treated with heparin sodium.The morphology and hydrophilicity of the two groups of acellular vascular scaffolds were detected.The hemocompatibility of the two groups of acellular vascular scaffold was evaluated by recalcification coagulation time test,platelet adhesion test,dynamic coagulation time test,hemolysis test,and complement activation test. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)Scanning electron microscopy showed that the surface of the two groups of vascular scaffolds was relatively intact,and a large number of fiber filaments appeared on the surface of the scaffolds after decellularity treatment,and the surface microstructure changed significantly.The water contact angle of the two groups of vascular scaffolds was smaller than that of natural vessels(P<0.000 1).There was no significant difference in water contact angle between the two groups(P>0.05).(2)The coagulation time of vascular scaffold was longer in the experimental group than in the control group(P<0.05).The number of platelets attached to the scaffold membrane was less in the experimental group than that in the control group(P<0.000 1).The coagulation index was greater in the experimental group than that in the control group(P<0.01),and the complement level was lower in the experimental group than that in the control group(P<0.001).The hemolysis rate of the two groups was lower than 5%of the national standard.(3)To conclude,acellular scaffold treated with Triton-x100/heparin sodium has excellent hemocompatibility.

Objective: To investigate the clinical value of observing perioperative changes of myeloperoxidase (MPO) and neutrophil elastase (NE) in coronary artery circulation in patients underwent valve replacement surgery. Methods: This perspective cohort study was performed in patients who underwent valvular surgery in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital and Fuwai Hospital from June 2021 to June 2022. Patients were divided into perioperative myocardial injury group and age-, sex- and type of cardiac procedure-matched non-perioperative myocardial injury control group in the ratio of 1∶1. Perioperative myocardial injury was defined as cardiac troponin T (cTnT)>0.8 μg/L on the first postoperative day (POD), and the cTnT level on the second POD increased by more than 10% compared with the cTnT level on the first POD. During the operation, blood samples were collected from the coronary sinus before clamping ascending aorta, and within 5 minutes after de-clamping ascending aorta. Then, the levels of MPO and NE on coronary sinus were continuously measured. The death, severe ventricular arrhythmia, pneumonia, re-intubation, repeat cardiac surgery, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), mechanical ventilation time and the duration of intensive care unit (ICU) were recorded. The levels of MPO and NE and the incidence of clinical outcomes were compared between the myocardial injury group and the control group. The independent risk factors of myocardial injury were analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. Results: A total of 130 patients were enrolled, aged (60.6±7.6) years old, with 59 males (45.4%). There were 65 patients in the myocardial injury group and 65 patients in the control group. During hospitalization, there was no death, ECMO, IABP and CRRT cases in both groups. Compared with the control group, the incidence of severe ventricular arrhythmia (13.8%(9/65) vs. 3.1%(2/65), P=0.03), pneumonia (20.0%(13/65) vs. 3.1%(2/65), P=0.03), re-intubation (6.2%(4/65) vs. 0, P=0.04) was significantly higher in myocardial injury group. The mechanical ventilation time (16.8(10.7, 101.7) h vs. 7.5(4.7, 15.1) h, P<0.01), and the duration of ICU (3.7(2.7, 18.9) vs. 2.7(1.8, 6.9)d, P<0.01) were significantly longer in myocardial injury group compared with the control group. There was no significant difference in the levels of MPO and NE in coronary sinus blood between the two groups before aortic clamping (all P>0.05). However, MPO ((551.3±124.2) μg/L vs. (447.2±135.9) μg/L, P<0.01) and NE ((417.0±83.1)μg/L vs. (341.0±68.3)μg/L, P<0.01) after 5 min aortic de-clamping were significantly higher in myocardial injury group than in the control group. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the levels of NE (OR=1.02, 95%CI: 1.01-1.02, P<0.01), MPO (OR=1.00, 95%CI: 1.00-1.01, P=0.02) and mechanical ventilation time (OR=1.03, 95%CI: 1.01-1.06, P=0.02) were independent risk factors of myocardial injury in patients after surgical valvular replacement. Conclusion: Perioperative myocardial injury is related poor clinical outcomes, perioperative NE and MPO in coronary artery circulation are independent risk factors of perioperative myocardial injury in patients undergoing valve replacement surgery.
