Objective To explore the diagnosis, treatment and medical assessment of the pilot suffering from small intestine diverticulosis, and provide the reference to aeromedical assessment of military and civil pilots and physical examination of pilot recruitment. Methods A case of civil pilot suffering from small intestine diverticulosis with ulcer bleeding was analyzed.By referring to the literature review, the pathophysiologic features, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatments for intestine diverticulosis were summarized. Results The intestine diverticulosis with ulcer bleeding was diagnosed by the capsule endoscopy and double-balloon enteroscopy. With the treatments of hemostasis,anti-infection and the consolidation of dietary nutrition, the pilot was recovered and qualified for flying.18months follow up showed that he was in normal physical condition. Conclusion Pilots suffering from small intestine diverticulosis and obscure gastrointestinal bleeding can be diagnosed by capsule endoscopy and double balloon enteroscopy. If small intestine diverticulosis was in stable,it wouldn't affect flying and treatment wouldn't be required. If small intestine diverticulosis combined with ulcer bleeding and infection, the hemostatic and anti-infection treatments would be required. If small intestine diverticulosis was with ulcer bleeding and had been affected, treatment of hemostasis and anti-infective treatment should be taken.Military transporter pilot and civil pilot can be qualified for flying in case of blood loss stopped and fitness recovered. The surgery should be considered if conservative treatment failed,or recurrent diverticulosis complication appeared. The assessment should be individually issued according to pilot's postoperative recovery.Routine capsule endoscopy examination is recommended due to its effective diagnosis and reference value to the physical examination of pilot recruitment.

OBJECTIVETo identify more effective and less toxic drugs to treat animal toxoplasmosis.
METHODSEfficacy of seven kinds of sulfonamides against Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) in an acute murine model was evaluated. The mice used throughout the study were randomly assigned to many groups (10 mice each), which either remained uninfected or were infected intraperitoneally with tachyzoites of T. gondii (strains RH and CN). All groups were then treated with different sulfonamides and the optimal treatment protocol was determined candidates. Sulfadiazine-sodium (SD) was used for comparison.
RESULTSThe optimal therapy involved gavaging mice twice per day with 250 mg/kg bw of sulfachloropyrazine-sodium (SPZ) for five days. Using this protocol, the average survival time and the time-point of 50% fatalities were prolonged significantly compared with SD treatment. Treatment with SPZ protected 40% of mice from death, and the heart and kidney tissue of these animals was parasite-free, as determined by nested-PCR. SPZ showed excellent therapeutic effects in the treatment of T. gondii in an acute murine model and is therefore a promising drug candidate for the treatment and prevention of T. gondii in animals.
CONCLUSIONSIt can be concluded that the effective drug sulfachloropyrazine may be the new therapeutic options against animal toxoplasmosis.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the distribution of sentinel lymph nodes in gastric cancer, and evaluate clinicopathologic characteristics leading its metastasis.
METHODSThe location of metastatic lymph nodes was analyzed retrospectively in 27 patients of gastric carcinoma with solitary lymph node metastases, and in 80 cases metastasis was limited to only 1 station in Japanese nodal classification. The clinicopathologic characteristics of the patients with solitary lymph node metastases and 111 cases without lymph node metastases were compared.
RESULTSTwenty-five in 27 cases with solitary lymph node metastases were limited in level I. Skip metastasis occurred in 2 cases. Sentinel lymph nodes of 16 cases in 21 patients with the tumors in the lower and middle third stomach were located in less curvature (No. 3) and in greater curvature (No. 4). Sentinel lymph nodes of 3 cases in 6 patients in the upper third stomach were located in right cardia (No. 1). Multivariate analysis showed that the frequency of sentinel lymph node metastasis of pT(3) lesion was significantly higher than that of pT(1) lesion with an odds ratio of 4.926 (P < 0.01). The frequency of sentinel lymph node metastasis in the tumor located in the upper third stomach was significantly higher than that in lower third stomach, with an odds ratio of 4.381 (P < 0.05). Early gastric cancer had lower risk for sentinel lymph node metastasis than that in Borrmann type I cancer, with an odds ratio of 0.082 (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSMajority of sentinel lymph nodes are located in the regional perigastric lymph node groups close to the tumor. Skip metastasis is rare. Depth of invasion and location of tumor are correlated with sentinel lymph node metastasis. Sentinel lymph node assessment can instruct to determine extent of lymph node dissection for gastric cancer.

OBJECTIVETo observe effect of Xue Hanjing oral fluid on mice immunological function.
METHODThe weight of thymus gland and spleen and the function of abdominal cavity macrophage were measured. Production of the hemolysin antibody, the immunoglobulin of blood serum and complement and the proliferation of T lymphocytes were observed respectively by means of microblood, immune-turbidimetry and MTT staining.
RESULTXue Hanjing oral fluid could enhance index of the thymus gland and spleen and the phago-percent of abdominal cavity macrophage, increase the immunoglobulin of blood serum(IgG and IgM), and accelerate production of the hemolysin antibody and the proliferation of T lymphocytes.
CONCLUSIONSXue Hanjing oral can reinforce immunological function in mice.
