Objective To explore the changes of durability properties of reusable surgical gowns when used in dry and wet conditions. Methods Reusable surgical gowns made of single-layer polyester fiber or 3-layer composite material were selected as test samples, and a Martindale abrasion and pilling tester was used as the basic test platform and modified to form fixtures suitable for the wet state environment. The reusable surgical gowns underwent abrasion experiments in wet and dry conditions to observe the changes in their fiber structure, and were subjected to water penetration resistance and swelling strength tests. Results Visually the reusable surgical gowns had few changes of the microscopic textile fiber structure in dry and wet conditions, and the gowns made of single-layer polyster fiber gained advantages over the outer layers of those of 3-layer composite material in abrasion resistance with the same friction cycles. In dry and wet conditions, the hydrostatic pressure values of the gowns of single-layer polyster fiber gradually decreased with the increase of the degree of abrasion, which were always lower than those of the gowns of 3-layer composite material;the swelling strength of the gowns of single-layer polyster fiber was always greater than that of the gowns of 3-layer composite material, which decreased with the deterioration of the wear more significantly than that of the gowns of 3-layer composite material. Conclusion The reusable surgical gowns made of single-layer polyester fiber or 3-layer composite material have few differences in durability and protective properties at the early stages of ablation in dry and wet conditions. The durability of the gowns decreases as the degree of wear increases, while the trend of the decrease is slowing down until the fabric breaks down and completely loses its barrier effect.[Chinese Medical Equipment Journal,2025,46(6):28-33]

Apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1(APE 1)is a multifunctional protein that plays important roles in DNA repair and regulation of gene expression.Because APE 1 is overexpressed in various cancers,it can serve as a cancer biomarker for aiding clinical diagnosis, guiding therapy, and monitoring prognosis. On this basis,a label-free fluorescent probe was designed based on the primer exchange reaction(PER)strategy for highly sensitive detection of APE 1 activity. In the absence of APE 1,the structure of catalytic hairpin(HP)was stable and could not form G-quadruplex.Therefore,the background fluorescence of this sensing system was very low due to the dissociation of thioflavin T(ThT).In the presence of APE 1,the apurinic/apyrimidinic(AP)site of HP was cleaved by APE 1 and a short nucleic acid fragment that acted as a primer to initiate PER was generated. After PER reaction,a large number of G-quadruplex were produced, which could specifically bind with ThT and resulted in significant increase of fluorescence signal. The combination of low background design of HP and PER amplification made this biosensor had high sensitivity with a detection limit(3σ)of 0.0008 U/mL.Furthermore,the primer sequence was directly generated by the cleavage of APE 1 without additional addition, which not only increased the specificity of the reaction, but also simplified the experiment procedure. Moreover, the use of label-free fluorescence signal reduced the cost of the experiment, and realized rapid detection of APE 1.Finally,this sensor was used to detect APE 1 in human serum samples with spiked recoveries of 91%-104%,proving great potential in study of biological enzyme.

This study aims to analyze the screening results and epidemiological characteristics of prostate cancer (PCa) among elderly males in the rural areas of Songjiang, Shanghai City, through the implementation of a preliminary prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening based on a community-linkage model, and to explore an effective screening approach. A retrospective observational study design was employed to collect data from residents who underwent PSA screening at Songjiang Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, in collaboration with multiple community health service centers in Songjiang District, Shanghai City, between June 2022 and June 2024, through free clinics and annual health examinations. Prostate biopsy was recommended for individuals with total PSA (tPSA) levels >10 ng/ml and those with 4 ng/ml≤tPSA≤10 ng/ml and abnormal free-to-total PSA (f/tPSA) ratios. Clinical characteristics of detected PCa patients were analyzed. Follow-up was conducted through phone calls and home visits by family doctors, coupled with enhanced health education. The results indicated that a total of 17 198 residents participated in the screening, among which 2 234 (12.99%) had tPSA levels between 4 ng/ml and 10 ng/ml, and 257 (1.49%) had tPSA levels >10 ng/ml. Ultimately, 417 residents underwent prostate biopsy, with 171 being diagnosed with PCa, yielding a positive biopsy rate of 41.00% and a PCa detection rate of 0.99%. The predominant pathological subtype among PCa patients was adenocarcinoma (168 cases, 98.24%). Of the 146 PCa patients who received treatment, the majority were classified as intermediate or high-risk (124 cases, 84.93%). Furthermore, with the optimization of the screening model, there was a significant increase in the proportion of subsequent outpatient visits. In conclusion, the community-linkage-based PSA screening model demonstrated high effectiveness in screening for PCa among elderly males in the rural areas of Songjiang, Shanghai City. Epidemiological findings revealed that PCa patients in this region are primarily composed of intermediate and high-risk groups, highlighting the need for intensified early screening and health education.

In February 2025, a local cluster outbreak caused by the D8 genotype Measles virus (MV) was first discovered in Henan Province. Epidemiological investigations and laboratory testing were conducted, including the collection of serum and throat swabs for MV IgM antibody and nucleic acid detection, virus isolation and genetic homology analysis. Measures such as close contact tracing, vaccination rate assessment and supplementary immunization activities were implemented, successfully preventing broader community transmission. A total of three cases were reported during the outbreak, including one imported-related adolescent and two secondary local adult cases. All cases presented with typical symptoms such as fever and rash. Both adult cases were complicated by pneumonia, with one case developing into severe pneumonia. MV genotyping showed that the two secondary cases were both the D8 genotype, with the viral sequences being completely homologous to the Kazakhstan strain. Among the close contacts, 98.2% were adults, and 142 individuals received emergency vaccination.

Objective:To evaluate the early-to-mid-term efficacy of supramalleolar osteotomy (SMO) in the treatment of traumatic ankle arthritis secondary to peri-ankle fracture. Methods:A retrospective study was conducted to analyze the clinical data of 29 patients who had been treated for traumatic ankle arthritis secondary to old peri-ankle fracture by SMO from March 2018 to March 2023 at Department of Foot and Ankle Surgery, Beijing Jishuitan Hospital. There were 14 males and 15 females, 39.0 (25.0, 49.0) years in age. Types of old fracture: 4 lower tibiofibular fractures, 19 ankle fractures, and 6 pilon fractures. Surgery was conducted for 16 cases and conservative treatment for the remaining 13 cases. The interval between the old fracture and the current surgery was 10.0 (2.0, 19.5) years. The clinical efficacy was evaluated using the ankle-hindfoot score of American Association of Foot and Ankle Surgery (AOFAS), foot function index (FFI), and visual analog scale (VAS) pain score. Imaging analysis was conducted and imaging comparisons were made between pre-surgery and post-surgery in terms of tibial anterior surface (TAS) angle, tibial lateral surface (TLS) angle, talar tilt (TT) angle, and changes in modified Takakura staging. Complications were recorded. Surgical satisfaction was investigated at the final follow-up.Results:The 29 patients were followed up for 17.0 (14.0, 23.5) months. The AOFAS ankle-hindfoot score [(84.2±9.6) points], FFI [7.0 (3.0, 10.9) points], VAS pain score [2.0 (1.0, 3.0) points], and TAS angle [90.84° (86.70°, 92.50°)] at the final follow-up for all patients were significantly better than the pre-surgery values [(68.0±16.7) points, 20.9 (6.1, 29.1) points, 5.0 (2.0, 8.0) points, and 78.63° (74.30°, 85.00°)] (all P<0.05). At the final follow-up, the ankle arthritis grading did not show any significant change ( P>0.05) and there were no significant differences in TT angle or TLS angle between pre-surgery and post-surgery ( P>0.05). Incision failed to heal in 1 case, incision healing was delayed in 3 cases, and ankle arthritis progressed on imaging in 6 cases. As for patient self-assessed satisfaction, 23 cases felt very satisfactory, 4 cases quite satisfactory, and 2 cases common, giving an overall satisfaction rate of 93.1% (27/29). Conclusions:SMO has led to good early-to-mid-term efficacy in the treatment of traumatic ankle arthritis secondary to peri-ankle fracture, showing obvious pain relief and functional improvement after correction of the ankle joint alignment, limited postoperative complactions and a high rate of patient satisfaction.
