Objective: Scutellarin in Shuganning injection has potential allergenicity and is prone to causing anaphylactoid reactions. There is an urgent need to establish a simple and rapid chromatographic quantitative method to achieve the limit control of scutellarin in Shuganning injection.
Methods: For scutellarin, HPLC method was used in the quantitative analysis using a Shim-pack GIS C₁₈ (2.1 mm×150 mm, 5 μm) column. The mobile phase was a blend of 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid in water and acetonitrile, and gradient elution progress was applied for the whole process. The flow rate was 0.3 mL·min^-1 and the column temperature was maintained at 37 ℃. The detecting wavelength was 320 nm.
Results: The linear regression equation was y=51 456x-27 352, the correlation coefficient r=0.999 8, namely the calibration curve was linear in the range of 1.02-102.00 μg·mL^-1; the average recovery was 103.76%; the detection and quantification limit for determining scutellarin was 0.16 μg·mL^-1 and 0.57 μg·mL^-1, respectively; the injection sample was stable at room temperature for 48 h.
Conclusion: This method is easy to operate, reproducible and has high accuracy, thus can be used for quality control of Shuganning injection.

Although about 9 in 10 United States adults have at least 1 risk factor for CKM syndrome, its prevalence in other populations is less understood. To fill this gap, we examined the prevalence of CKM syndrome in Korea and its association with demographic and socioeconomic status (SES). METHODS: Using data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2011 and 2021, we calculated the prevalence of CKM syndrome across the following stages: stage 0 (no risk factors), stage 1 (excess or dysfunctional adiposity), stage 2 (other metabolic risk factors or chronic kidney disease), and stages 3-4 (subclinical/clinical cardiovascular diseases) among adults aged ≥20 years. Weighted analyses were used to estimate prevalence and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for each CKM syndrome stage, stratified by age, gender, and SES factors. RESULTS: Among 54,994 Korean adults, the prevalence of CKM syndrome was as follows: stage 0 (25.2%; 95% CI, 24.7 to 25.8), stage 1 (19.3%; 95% CI, 18.9 to 19.7), stage 2 (51.6%; 95% CI, 51.1 to 52.2), and stages 3-4 (3.9%; 95% CI, 3.7 to 4.0). The prevalence of stages 2 and 3-4 was higher in men than in women. In addition, stages 3-4 were more prevalent among rural residents and those with lower education or income. CONCLUSIONS About 3 out of 4 Koreans are at risk for CKM syndrome. These findings highlight that CKM syndrome is a global health problem and that interventions are urgently needed to prevent further progression.

Background: and Purpose The National Brain Biobank of Korea (NBBK) is a brain bank consortium supported by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and the Korea National Institute of Health, and was launched in 2015 to support research into neurodegenerative disease dementia (NDD). This study aimed to introduce the NBBK and describes clinicopathological correlations based on analyses of data collected from the NBBK. Methods: Four hospital-based brain banks have been established in South Korea: Samsung Medical Center Brain Bank (SMCBB), Seoul National University Hospital Brain Bank (SNUHBB), Pusan National University Hospital Brain Bank (PNUHBB), and Myongji Hospital Brain Bank (MJHBB). Clinical and pathological data were collected from these brain banks using standardized protocols. The prevalence rates of clinical and pathological diagnoses were analyzed in order to characterize the clinicopathological correlations. Results: Between August 2016 and December 2023, 185 brain specimens were collected and pathologically evaluated (SNUHBB: 117; PNUHBB: 27; SMCBB: 34; MJHBB: 7). The age at consent was 70.8±12.6 years, and the age at autopsy was 71.7±12.4 years. The four-most-common clinical diagnoses were Alzheimer’s disease (AD) dementia (20.0%), idiopathic Parkinson’s disease (15.1%), unspecified dementia (11.9%), and cognitively unimpaired (CU) (11.4%).Most cases of unspecified dementia had a pathological diagnosis of central nervous system (CNS) vasculopathy (31.8%) or AD (31.8%). Remarkably, only 14.2% of CU cases had normal pathological findings. The three-most-common pathological diagnoses were AD (26.5%), CNS vasculopathy (14.1%), and Lewy body disease (13.5%). Conclusions These clinical and neuropathological findings provide a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying NDD in South Korea.

The application of extended reality (XR) technology is rapidly expanding in the medical field, including anesthesia. This review aims to introduce the current literature on XR utilization to help anesthesiologists adopt this technology in education and clinical practice. XR is useful for both knowledge acquisition and skill training in a wide range of settings, from students to medical professionals. One of its major benefits is harm reduction through simulation scenarios that allow for immersion in clinical situations and opportunities to practice procedures and tasks. These scenarios often involve both technical and non-technical skills, enabling clinicians to enhance their capabilities without risking patient safety. In clinical settings, XR can also be used with patients to increase familiarity with medical procedures, provide education, and reduce anxiety. XR can also serve as a distraction technique, diverting the patient’s attention from medical procedures and enhancing comfort, which may contribute to reduced opioid use. Although the potential benefits of XR in anesthesia have been reported in various educational and clinical contexts, challenges, such as limited financial reimbursement and restricted technical accessibility, remain. With further research and technological advancements, XR technology has the potential for widespread adoption in anesthesia practice.

Objective: To analyze the relationship between body mass index(BMI) during pre pregnancy, maternal lipid levels during early pregnancy and childhood overweight and obesity, as well as the mediating role of maternal lipid levels during early pregnancy in pre pregnancy BMI and childhood overweight and obesity, providing scientific evidence for developing obesity prevention strategies in preschool children. Methods: Using data from Peking University Birth Cohort in Tongzhou (PKUBC-T) collected between June 2018 and September 2022, the study included 1 292 mother-child pairs. Participants were stratified into two groups based on children s BMI Z scores at age 3: an overweight/obesity risk group (BMI Z >1, n =173) and a non overweight/obesity risk group (BMI Z ≤1, n =1 119).Multivariate Logistic regression was conducted to analyze the associations between pre pregnancy BMI, maternal lipid levels[total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride（TG）,high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),TC/HDL-C,TG/HDL-C,LDL-C/HDL-C] during early pregnancy and childhood overweight and obesity. The mediating effect of maternal lipid levels during early pregnancy on pre pregnancy BMI and childhood overweight and obesity was further explored. Results: There were statistically significant differences in pregnancy BMI levels, early pregnancy blood LDL-C ,TC/HDL-C,LDL-C/HDL-C levels between the overweight and obesity risk group and the non overweight and obesity risk group ( χ 2/Z =19.01, 2.48, 2.48, 2.71, all P <0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that pre pregnancy BMI, LDL-C, TC/HDL-C and LDL-C/HDL-C in early pregnancy were significantly associated with childhood overweight and obesity ( OR =1.09, 1.42, 1.49, 1.60, all P <0.05). LDL-C, TC/HDL-C and LDL-C/HDL-C in early pregnancy played a significant mediating role on pre pregnancy BMI and childhood obesity and the mediating effects accounted for 7.3%, 10.2%, 23.5% of the total effects, respectively (all P <0.05). Conclusions Maternal hyperlipidemia during early pregnancy partially mediated the association between pre pregnancy obesity and childhood obesity. Both pre pregnancy obesity and maternal hyperlipidemia during early pregnancy are risk factors for obesity in preschool children.
