BACKGROUND:Some studies have confirmed the changes in the function of immune cell subsets such as monocytes,T cells,B cells, and natural killer cells(NK cells)in patients with osteoarthritis, but the specific regulatory mechanisms are unclear.OBJECTIVE:To explore the causal relationship between plasma metabolite-mediated immune cells and hip osteoarthritis.METHODS:The Genome-Wide Association Studies(GWAS)data of 731 immune cells were used as the exposure, the GWAS data of hip osteoarthritis were used as the outcome, and 1 400 plasma metabolites were selected as mediating factors. The GWAS database is an important database for genetic association studies, maintained by international organizations with no country-specific affiliation. The inverse variance weighting method in the two-sample Mendelian randomization method was the main method, and the Bayesian weighted Mendelian randomization method was used to analyze the prior distribution, sample data and weights, which were then used to calculate the posterior distribution. The accuracy and reliability of the inverse variance weighting results were evaluated according to the posterior distribution, supplemented by MR-Egger,weighted median, simple model, and weighted mode methods. The pliotropy test and heterogeneity test were used to ensure the robustness of the process. The results of the inverse variance weighting method were used for subsequent mediating effect analysis.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)The inverse variance weighting method identified 4 immune cells strongly correlated with hip osteoarthritis, and 20 metabolites strongly associated with hip osteoarthritis, all of which had no reverse causal relationship. At the same time, the validation results of Bayesian weighted Mendelian randomization method showed that the posterior mean value was similar to the estimated value of the inverse variance weighting, and the posterior variance was relatively lower. One monocyte subtype(PDL-1 on CD14-CD16+)was finally screened out to have a causal relationship with hip osteoarthritis, with a total effect of-0.047(odds ratio=0.954,95%confidence interval:0.926-0.983),and a mediating effect of-0.004(odds ratio=0.939,95%confidence interval:0.902-0.978)mediated by alliin levels, accounting for 8.5%of the total effect. It was concluded that alliin is a protective factor in the progression of hip osteoarthritis,in which this metabolite plays a mediating role.(2)The large amount of data from international databases and European population analysis is of great significance to Chinese biomedicine, which can provide clues for research on the genetic susceptibility to similar diseases in the Chinese population, aiding in discovering the unique associations. The pharmacogenomic approaches used can be adapted to screen for drug response genes in the Chinese population, enhancing the precision of personalized medicine.Additionally, the advanced high-throughput technologies and statistical methods employed can be learned and applied to disease prevention and treatment research.

Under the background of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, together with 15 national ministries and commissions, has formulated the Implementation Plan on Establishing a Carbon Footprint Management System, and it is urgent for traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) pharmaceutical enterprises to carry out research on carbon footprint accounting methods of related products. Based on the life cycle assessment(LCA) theory, taking mulberry leaf extract produced by a certain enterprise as an example, this study analyzed the carbon footprint of TCM extracts during the life cycle. The results show that for every 1 kg of product produced, the carbon emissions from the stages of raw material acquisition, transportation, and extract production are-20.569, 1.205, and 173.577 kgCO_2eq(CO_2 equivalent), respectively. The carbon footprint of the product is 154.213 kgCO_2eq·kg~(-1). In addition, the carbon emission is the highest in the production stage, in which the consumption of ethanol solvents makes the greatest contribution to the carbon footprint, accounting for 25.71%, more than one-fourth of the total carbon footprint. The second contribution was from the treatment process of TCM residues, accounting for 19.67%, closely followed by wastewater treatment(17.71%), the consumption of hot steam(17.43%), and drinking water(16.90%). The consumption of electric power and packaging materials has a smaller carbon emission of 2.58%. In particular, the carbon emission caused by the consumption of packaging materials is only 0.04%, which is negligible. The results of the study are expected to provide a reference for TCM enterprises to carry out research on the carbon footprint of products, offer ideas for collaborative innovation in reducing pollution and carbon emissions throughout the entire industry chain of TCM, and develop new quality productivity of modern TCM industry based on green and low-carbon manufacturing.

OBJECTIVE:
Evaluate the clinical application effect of low-field infant MRI.
METHODS:
Using literature review, expert consultation, and two rounds of Delphi to determine the evaluation index system. Then retrospectively analyze and compare the data of low-field infant MRI and high-field MRI from January 2023 to December 2024.
RESULTS:
There is a certain gap between low-field infant MRI and high-field MRI in terms of signal-to-noise ratio, image uniformity, software system reliability, scanning time, user interface friendliness and image result consistency. However, there was no difference in terms of spatial resolution and image quality. The noise, hardware system reliability, mean time between failure and the rate of examination completed without sedation are better than that of high-field MRI.
CONCLUSION
Low-field infant MRI meets needs of clinical diagnostic and has stable performance. It can be used as a routine screening tool for brain diseases near the bed.

International Eye Science 2025;25(9):1476-1483
Recent years have witnessed significant advancements in myopia control research through the application of diffuse optical technology(DOT)spectacle lenses. Myopia has emerged as a global public health challenge, affecting nearly half of the world's population, with childhood and adolescent myopia rates continuing to rise. DOT lenses represent an innovative myopia control intervention based on retinal contrast signal theory. These lenses incorporate micro-light scattering dots distributed across the lens surface to reduce retinal imaging contrast and modulate the influence of visual input on axial elongation, thereby slowing myopia progression. The core mechanism operates through refractive index differences between the lens substrate(1.53)and scattering dots(1.50), which generate optical scattering effects. This design maintains clear vision through a central 5 mm optical zone while effectively reducing contrast signal intensity in the peripheral retina. Large-scale randomized controlled trials, including the CYPRESS study, have demonstrated significant myopia control efficacy in children aged 6-10 years: 12-month follow-up data revealed a 74% reduction in myopia progression and a 50% reduction in axial elongation, with sustained safety and visual quality maintained over 4-year long-term follow-up. However, several aspects of DOT technology remain contentious and require further clinical validation, including its applicability across different age groups, optimal scattering dot density configurations, combined application effects with other myopia control methods, and long-term visual adaptation during extended use. This review systematically examines the theoretical foundations, design characteristics, clinical application progress, and future development directions of DOT technology, providing scientific evidence for clinical myopia prevention and control strategy formulation.

Objective: To investigate the effects of autologous platelet-rich plasma (aPRP) collected using a continuous blood cell separator on blood conservation and prognosis in patients with type A aortic dissection. Methods: The clinical data of patients who underwent emergency aortic replacement for acute type A aortic dissection at our hospital from January 2020 to December 2023 were respectively analyzed. Patients were divided into two groups based on whether they received aPRP collection before surgery for subsequent reinfusion: the aPRP group (n=32) and the control group (n=35). The volume of aPRP collected and the platelet concentration in the aPRP were recorded. The volumes of allogeneic blood and blood products transfused, and the associated costs during hospitalization were compared between two groups. Intraoperative blood loss, perioperative laboratory parameter changes, 24-hour postoperative drainage volume, duration of ICU stay and mechanical ventilation, length of hospital stay, and mortality rate of the two groups were also compared. Results: The platelet concentration in aPRP was (491.5±85.4)×10
/L, accounting for (24.1±9.6)% of the patient's total platelet count. The volume of aPRP collected accounted for (23.0±6.3)% of the patient's total plasma volume. Compared with the control group, the aPRP group demonstrated significantly reduced transfusion volumes of allogeneic red blood cells, plasma, and platelets (P<0.05), along with significantly lower blood-related costs during hospitalization (P<0.05). Postoperative coagulation parameters (APTT, PT, INR, and TEG) were significantly improved (P<0.05), and platelet counts were markedly increased (P<0.05) in aPRP group as compared with the control group. No statistically significant differences were observed in postoperative use of prothrombin complex concentrate and fibrinogen between the two groups. Similarly, there were no significant differences in postoperative 24-hour drainage volume, 24-hour extubation rate, ICU length of stay, duration of mechanical ventilation, or total hospital length of stay. The incidence of complications and mortality did not differ significantly between the two groups. Conclusion: The administration of aPRP significantly reduces the requirement for perioperative allogeneic blood transfusion in patients undergoing surgery for type A aortic dissection. Furthermore, it enhances coagulation function and reduces associated transfusion costs, thereby establishing itself as an effective and safe strategy for blood conservation.
