Tropical diseases, the transmission of which is affected by multiple natural and social factors, pose a great challenge to global public health, notably in African countries. During the past several decades, China and African countries have continuously collaborated for the control of neglected tropical diseases and malaria, which has become an important part of global South-to-South cooperation and global health governance. This article reviews the history of China-Africa cooperation for tropical diseases control, summarizes the experiences and achievements over the past decade, analyzes the current challenges in the coopera tion, and proposes future recommendations. The China-Africa cooperation has achieved significant progress in the control of tropical diseases, such as malaria, schistosomiasis, and filariasis, and established a China-Africa cooperation network for tropical diseases control. Through the "Three-Step" strategy of China-Africa cooperation, the effectiveness of China's integrated control strategies has been validated in Africa, and the application of China's tropical disease control technologies has been promoted in African disease-epidemic countries. Currently, China-Africa collaboration, however, still experiences multiple realistic challenges, such as insufficient resources, difficulty in technology transfer, and weak primary healthcare systems. In the future, both sides are recommended to further strengthen policy coordination, deepen technological cooperation, innovate cooperation models, aiming to continuously promote the high-quality development of China-Africa cooperation for tropical diseases control.

Objective:To investigate the application value of self-pulling latter transection(SPLT)in esophagojeju-nal anastomosis during total laparoscopic total gastrectomy.Methods:From January 2021 to December 2023,80 pa-tients who underwent total laparoscopic total gastrectomy at the Department of General Surgery,Yancheng Third People's Hospital,were selected.Patients were grouped based on the intraoperative esophagojejunal anastomosis method:the SPLT group(35 cases,using SPLT esophagojejunostomy)and the Overlap group(45 cases,using esoph-agojejunal overlapping side-to-side anastomosis).Surgical related indicators,complication incidence,nutritional status,and quality of life assessment were compared between the two groups.Results:The time to first postoperative anal exhaust,the number of lymph nodes dissected,and the postoperative hospital stay were compared between the two groups(P＞0.05).The SPLT group had shorter operation time and esophagojejunal anastomosis time,and less intraopera-tive blood loss compared to the control group(P＜0.05).The incidence of postoperative complications in the SPLT group was 8.57%,and in the Overlap group was 11.11%,with no significant difference between the two groups(P＞0.05).The nutritional status at 6 months postoperatively in the SPLT group[Hb(116.97±10.94)g/L、ALB(39.74±1.29)g/L、PA(0.30±0.45)g/L]and Overlap group[Hb(119.78±12.84)g/L、ALB(39.64±1.42)g/L、PA(0.30±0.36)g/L]were compared(P＞0.05).The quality of life assessment(overall health status,functional domains,symptom domains)at 6 months postoperatively between the SPLT group and the Overlap group was compared(P＞0.05).Conclusion:The use of SPLT esophagojeju-nal anastomosis in total laparoscopic total gastrectomy can improve the surgical efficiency,achieve high anastomosis,and its medium and short-term safety is comparable to that of esophagojejunal overlap side-to-side anastomosis.

Objective To investigate the dosimetric differences in preoperative short-course volumetric modulated arc therapy(VMAT)for rectal cancer using different fluence smoothing(FS)levels in the Monaco Treatment Planning System(Monaco TPS).Methods Twenty rectal cancer patients who received preoperative neoadjuvant short-course VMAT at some hospital from September 2021 to December 2022 were retrospectively selected.Four groups of radiotherapy plans were formulated using the Monaco TPS for each case,which were classified into an off group,a low group,a medium group and a high group based on the FS levels.Then the four groups were compared in terms of the dosimetric parameters,monitor unit and number of the segments in the planning target volume(PTV)and organ at risk(OAR).Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 27.0 software.Results All the four groups had the doses to the target volume meeting clinical requirements,which had no significant differences in the doses to 5％(D5％)and 95％(D95％)to the target volume and the maximum dose(Dmax),minimum dose(Dmin),mean dose(Dmean)and conformity index(all P＞0.05).Statistical differences were found between the homogeneity indexes of the four groups(P＜0.05),with the medium group behaving the best.The number of the segments rose while the mornitor units decreased siginificantly with the increase of FS levels,with the differences being statistically significant(P＜0.05).There were no significant differences between the V25,V20,V15 and V10 of the small intestine,the V25 and V20 of the bladder and the V15 and V10 of the left and right femur(all P＞0.05).Conclusion In preoperative short-course VMAT for rectal cancer,clinical requirements can be met with different FS levels in the Monaco TPS,and medium-level FS results in optimal overall dose distribution in terms of treatment planning.[Chinese Medical Equipment Journal,2025,46(5):48-53]

Purpose To investigate the feasibility of multi-sequence MRI-based radiomics for predicting epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)mutation status in brain metastases from non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Materials and Methods This retrospective study included 237 patients with NSCLC brain metastases from the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University(January 1,2017 to December 31,2023)who underwent EGFR genetic testing.All patients underwent pretreatment brain MRI including contrast-enhanced T1-weighted,T2-weighted FLAIR,and T2-weighted sequences,along with chest CT for primary lung lesions.EGFR mutations were identified in 120 patients.Using December 31,2021 as the cutoff date,patients were divided into training(n=146)and validation(n=91)cohorts.Senior radiologists delineated brain metastases on multi-sequence MRI and primary lesions on CT.A total of 851 radiomic features were extracted using PyRadiomics.Following feature selection,machine learning models were constructed using support vector machine algorithm and compared with least absolute shrinkage and selection operator-derived radiomic signatures.Five models were developed:three single-sequence MRI models,a multi-sequence MRI fusion model,and a CT model,with diagnostic performance evaluated by area under the receiver operating characteristic curve.Results The multi-sequence MRI fusion model demonstrated superior performance across all imaging types.The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator and support vector machine models achieved training set area under the curve of 0.854(95%CI 0.748-0.960)and 0.948(95%CI 0.923-0.973),respectively,and validation set area under the curve of 0.810(95%CI 0.751-0.869)and 0.951(95%CI 0.917-0.985),respectively.The optimal prediction model utilized support vector machine algorithm with multi-sequence MRI features.Conclusion Pretreatment multi-sequence MRI radiomics combined with machine learning accurately predicts EGFR mutation status in NSCLC patients with brain metastases.

AIM To optimize the extraction process for Bletillae Rhizoma,and to evaluate its anti-oxidant,tyrosinase inhibitory activities.METHODS With ultrasound time,ethanol concentration and solid-liquid ratio as influencing factors,the total extraction content of gastrodin,protocatechualdehyde,p-hydroxybenzaldehyde,1,4-bis[4-(gluconoxy)benzyl]-2-isobutylmalate-2-glucoside,1,4-bis[4-(gluconoxy)benzyl]-2-isobutylmalate,yam Ⅲ,dihydropinosin and 3'-O-methylyam Ⅲ as an evaluation index,the extraction process was optimized by Box-Behnken response surface method.Subsequently,the extract's scavenging effects on DPPH,ABTS+free radicals,and inhibitory ability on tyrosinase were determined.RESULTS The optimal conditions were determined to be 49 min for ultrasound time,55％for ethanol concentration,1∶30 for solid-liquid ratio,and 2 times for extraction frequency,the total extraction content was 13.18 mg/g.The extract demonstrated the IC50 of 10.12,314.07 and 1.70 μg/g on DPPH,ABTS+free radicals and tyrosinase,respectively.CONCLUSION This simple,reliable and stable method can be used for the extraction for Bletillae Rhizoma with strong anti-oxidant,tyrosinase inhibitory activities.

Recent years have witnessed significant advancements in myopia control research through the application of diffuse optical technology(DOT)spectacle lenses. Myopia has emerged as a global public health challenge, affecting nearly half of the world's population, with childhood and adolescent myopia rates continuing to rise. DOT lenses represent an innovative myopia control intervention based on retinal contrast signal theory. These lenses incorporate micro-light scattering dots distributed across the lens surface to reduce retinal imaging contrast and modulate the influence of visual input on axial elongation, thereby slowing myopia progression. The core mechanism operates through refractive index differences between the lens substrate(1.53)and scattering dots(1.50), which generate optical scattering effects. This design maintains clear vision through a central 5 mm optical zone while effectively reducing contrast signal intensity in the peripheral retina. Large-scale randomized controlled trials, including the CYPRESS study, have demonstrated significant myopia control efficacy in children aged 6-10 years: 12-month follow-up data revealed a 74% reduction in myopia progression and a 50% reduction in axial elongation, with sustained safety and visual quality maintained over 4-year long-term follow-up. However, several aspects of DOT technology remain contentious and require further clinical validation, including its applicability across different age groups, optimal scattering dot density configurations, combined application effects with other myopia control methods, and long-term visual adaptation during extended use. This review systematically examines the theoretical foundations, design characteristics, clinical application progress, and future development directions of DOT technology, providing scientific evidence for clinical myopia prevention and control strategy formulation.

Monkeypox is a zoonotic disease caused by the monkeypox virus, which was previously limited to epidemics in Africa. Since 2022, monkeypox has rapidly spread worldwide, affecting 130 countries and regions. The World Health Organization declared it a public health emergency of international concern, in 2022 and 2024, respectively. The monkeypox virus has exhibited accelerated mutation rates, with diverse circulating strains. Children and men who have sex with men have emerged as the primary high-risk group. Additionally, the increase in asymptomatic infections and atypical mild rashes has complicated differential diagnosis, posing entirely challenges to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention and control of monkeypox. This article reviews the research progress on the etiological characteristics, epidemiological features, clinical manifestations, and prevention and treatment strategies of monkeypox by retrieving the literature on monkeypox from January 1958 to January 2025, so as to provide the basis for the prevention and treatment of monkeypox.

Gene regulation relies on the precise binding of transcription factors (TFs) at regulatory elements, but simultaneously detecting hundreds of TFs on chromatin is challenging. We developed cFOOT-seq, a cytosine deaminase-based TF footprinting assay, for high-resolution, quantitative genome-wide assessment of TF binding in both open and closed chromatin regions, even with small cell numbers. By utilizing the dsDNA deaminase SsdAtox, cFOOT-seq converts accessible cytosines to uracil while preserving genomic integrity, making it compatible with techniques like ATAC-seq for sensitive and cost-effective detection of TF occupancy at the single-molecule and single-cell level. Our approach enables the delineation of TF footprints, quantification of occupancy, and examination of chromatin influences on TF binding. Notably, cFOOT-seq, combined with FootTrack analysis, enables de novo prediction of TF binding sites and tracking of TF occupancy dynamics. We demonstrate its application in capturing cell type-specific TFs, analyzing TF dynamics during reprogramming, and revealing TF dependencies on chromatin remodelers. Overall, cFOOT-seq represents a robust approach for investigating the genome-wide dynamics of TF occupancy and elucidating the cis-regulatory architecture underlying gene regulation.
