Background: and Purpose In patients with ischemic stroke and isolated cervical internal carotid artery occlusion (c-ICA-O), endovascular therapy (EVT) can improve cerebral perfusion. To maintain vessel patency, EVT is frequently combined with carotid artery stenting (CAS). We assessed the efficacy and safety of emergent CAS during EVT for isolated c-ICA-O. Methods: This retrospective multinational cohort study (42 centers) included consecutive patients who underwent EVT for isolated c-ICA-O within 24 hours from the time last seen well. Patients who underwent emergent CAS were compared with those who did not. Co-primary outcomes were c-ICA vessel patency and symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage (sICH) 24 hours post-EVT. Secondary outcomes included any intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) at 24 hours and disability at 3 months (modified Rankin Scale [mRS] shift). Outcomes were adjusted using inverse probability of treatment weighting. Results: Of 317 patients (mean age, 68.6 years [standard deviation, 12.9]; median National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale 11 [interquartile range, 6–17]; 26.8% female), 219 (69.1%) underwent CAS, whereas 98 (30.9%) did not. At 24 hours, vessel patency was more common after CAS (83.5% vs. 40.7%; adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 9.45; 95% confidence interval [CI], 4.91–18.17); sICH rates did not differ (2.3% vs. 3.1%; aOR, 0.92; 95% CI, 0.18–4.73). Any ICH was more common after CAS (19.3% vs. 9.3%; aOR, 2.50; 95% CI, 1.12–5.60). CAS was not associated with mRS at 3 months (adjusted common odds ratio, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.62–1.56). Conclusions In patients undergoing EVT for isolated c-ICA-O, emergent CAS was technically effective and reasonably safe. More frequent vessel patency in patients who underwent CAS did not translate into improved functional outcome at 3 months.

Ascaridia galli infection compromises the health and productivity of chickens. this study aimed to determine the prevalence, pathology, and control of A. galli in backyard chickens. Four hundred and fifty-six faecal samples were tested using direct smear and concentration techniques. sixty chickens were grouped based on egg per gram into untreated control, mebendazole-treated, and derivative-treated. Key epidemiologic host based and environmental variables were recorded and analysed statistically (p < 0.05 significance level). Histopathological changes in the intestine were also assessed. Overall prevalence of A. galli was 72% (330/456). Infection was high in females (74%, 200/267) than in males (68%, 130/189). Adult chickens had a higher infection rate than young (64% vs 55%; p < 0.05). Weak chickens showed a markedly higher prevalence (96%, 150/156) than healthy chickens (60%, 180/300) (p < 0.05). Geographically, prevalence was highest in Swat (85.53%), followed by Lower Dir (72.3%) and Malakand (59.21%), with statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Management system influenced infection: free range chickens had (63%) compared to semi-free range (37%), scavenging chickens were more infected (75%) compared to receiving supplemental feed (53%) (p < 0.05). The non-dewormed chickens had a significantly higher prevalence (92%) than the dewormed group (20%) (p < 0.05). Seasonal infection peaked during the rainy season (86%) compared to the dry season (44%) (p < 0.05). Intestinal histology revealed inflammation, epithelial necrosis, villous atrophy, and crypt hyperplasia. Treatment of the chickens nematodes using mebendazole resulted in 70% (14/20) of the treated eggs being egg-negative, and the comparison of treatment of the egg-negative derivative compound resulted in 80% (16/20) of the treated eggs being egg-negative. The A. galli infection are very common, and cause intestine damage. The mebendazole and its derivative decrease egg shedding significantly, Husbandry, management and treatment should be enhanced for effective control strategies.

WSWs have the potential to reliably and continuously screen for AFib and detect it in a timely manner.The inconclusive results produced by WSWs are a significant problem. Once the inconclusive results are rectified, WSWs may be used for widespread screening of AFib in those people who are at high risk of developing AFib.

Background: Atrial tachycardia poses challenges in patient management due to the associated risks of stroke and systemic embolism. While anticoagulation is recommended in atrial fibrillation (AF), its role in atrial tachycardia remains less defined. This prospective study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of apixaban, a direct oral anticoagulant, in individuals diagnosed with left-sided atrial tachycardias. Methods: Patients diagnosed with left-sided atrial tachycardia (n = 439) were observed over 3 years. Baseline characteristics, medication regimens, and clinical outcomes were assessed. Apixaban-treated individuals (n = 213) received standard or reduced dosages, while the control group (n = 226) received standard care. Primary outcomes included stroke, systemic embolism, bleeding, and mortality rates. Results: Baseline characteristics were comparable between groups. The apixaban cohort showed a lower incidence of stroke (7.0% vs. 9.3%, p = 0.027) and decreased all-cause mortality (11.7% vs. 12.8%, p = 0.012) compared to controls.No significant differences were found in major bleeding or systemic embolization between groups. Conclusion Apixaban demonstrated a potential benefit in reducing stroke and mortality rates in patients with leftsided atrial tachycardia. While requiring further validation, these findings suggest a potential role for apixaban in anticoagulation strategies for atrial tachycardia management.

OBJECTIVE: To explore potential natural products against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) via the study of structural and non-structural proteins of human coronaviruses. METHODS: In this study, we performed an in-silico survey of 25 potential natural compounds acting against SARS-CoV-2. Molecular docking studies were carried out using compounds against 3-chymotrypsin-like protease (3CL^PRO), papain-like protease (PL^PRO), RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), non-structural protein (nsp), human angiotensin converting enzyme 2 receptor (hACE2R), spike glycoprotein (S protein), abelson murine leukemia viral oncogene homolog 1 (ABL1), calcineurin-nuclear factor of activated T-cells (NFAT) and transmembrane protease serine 2. RESULTS: Among the screened compounds, amentoflavone showed the best binding affinity with the 3CL^PRO, RdRp, nsp13, nsp15, hACE2R. ABL1 and calcineurin-NFAT; berbamine with hACE2R and ABL1; cepharanthine with nsp10, nsp14, nsp16, S protein and ABL1; glucogallin with nsp15; and papyriflavonol A with PL^PRO protein. Other good interacting compounds were juglanin, betulinic acid, betulonic acid, broussooflavan A, tomentin A, B and E, 7-methoxycryptopleurine, aloe emodin, quercetin, tanshinone I, tylophorine and furruginol, which also showed excellent binding affinity towards a number of target proteins. Most of these compounds showed better binding affinities towards the target proteins than the standard drugs used in this study. CONCLUSION Natural products or their derivatives may be one of the potential targets to fight against SARS-CoV-2.

The Division of Cancer Prevention of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Office of Disease Prevention of the National Institutes of Health co-sponsored the Translational Advances in Cancer Prevention Agent Development Meeting on August 27 to 28, 2020. The goals of this meeting were to foster the exchange of ideas and stimulate new collaborative interactions among leading cancer prevention researchers from basic and clinical research; highlight new and emerging trends in immunoprevention and chemoprevention as well as new information from clinical trials; and provide information to the extramural research community on the significant resources available from the NCI to promote prevention agent development and rapid translation to clinical trials. The meeting included two plenary talks and five sessions covering the range from pre-clinical studies with chemo/immunopreventive agents to ongoing cancer prevention clinical trials. In addition, two NCI informational sessions describing contract resources for the preclinical agent development and cooperative grants for the Cancer Prevention Clinical Trials Network were also presented.
