1.Expert recommendations on vision friendly built environments for myopia prevention and control in children and adolescents
Chinese Journal of School Health 2026;47(1):1-5
Abstract
The prevention and control of myopia in Chinese children and adolescents has become a major public health issue. While maintaining increased outdoor activity as a cornerstone intervention, there is an urgent need to explore new complementary approaches that can be effectively implemented in both indoor and outdoor settings. In recent years, environmental spatial frequency has gained increasing attention as one of the key environmental factors influencing the development and progression of myopia. Both animal studies and human research have confirmed that indoor environments lacking mid to high spatial frequency components, often characterized as "visually impoverished", can promote axial elongation and myopia through mechanisms such as disruption of retinal neural signaling, impaired accommodative function, and altered expression of related molecules. Based on the scientific consensus, it is recommended that "enriching of environmental spatial frequency" should be integrated into the myopia prevention and control framework. Following the principles of schoolled organization, family cooperation, community involvement, and student participation, specific measures are put forward in three areas:optimizing school visual settings, improving home spatial environments, and promoting healthy visual behavior. The aim is to create "visually friendly" indoor environments as an important supplement to outdoor activity, thereby providing a novel perspective and strategy for comprehensively advancing myopia prevention and control among children and adolescents.

BackgroundSuicide is the second leading cause of death in adolescents. Patients with depression have a high risk of suicide, and family dysfunction is an important contributing factor of suicide. However, the mechanisms among these variables remain unclear. ObjectiveTo explore the influence of family cohesion and adaptability on the risk of suicide in adolescent inpatients with depression, and the mediating effect of depressive symptoms and the moderating effect of resilience, so as to provide references for suicide prevention and intervention. MethodsA total of 335 adolescent inpatients with depression were consecutively enrolled from October 2024 to August 2025 in a tertiary Grade A psychiatric hospital in Guangzhou. All participants met the diagnostic criteria for depression in the International Classification of Diseases, tenth edition (ICD-10). They were assessed using the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Scale Ⅱ-Chinese Version (FACES Ⅱ-CV), the Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), the Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised (SBQ-R) and the suicide module of the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI). A comprehensive suicide risk index was constructed. Model 4 and model 7 in the SPSS macro program Process 4.1 were used to test the mediating effect and the moderating effect, respectively. ResultsCorrelation analysis revealed that the SDS score was positively correlated with the composite suicide risk index (rs=0.663, P<0.01) but negatively correlated with the family cohesion and adaptability dimensions scores of the FACES II-CV and the CD-RISC score (rs=-0.448, -0.386, -0.576, P<0.01). Depressive symptoms fully mediated the association between family cohesion and suicide risk, with an indirect effect of -0.491 (95% CI: -0.646–-0.352), accounting for 89.76% of the total effect. Depressive symptoms also fully mediated the association between family adaptability and suicide risk, with an indirect effect of -0.442 (95% CI: -0.603–-0.293), accounting for 89.11% of the total effect. Resilience significantly moderated the effect of family cohesion on depressive symptoms (β=-0.006, P<0.01) and the effect of family adaptability on depressive symptoms (β=-0.007, P<0.05). ConclusionIn adolescent inpatients with depression, depressive symptoms may play a fully mediating role in the relationships between family cohesion/family adaptability and suicide risk, respectively, and resilience moderated the first stage of this mediating pathway. BACKGROUND:Studies have shown that mitochondrial oxidative stress has an important role in the development of knee osteoarthritis, and Hemin can regulate the expression of mitochondria-related proteins. OBJECTIVE:To study the regulatory effect of Hemin on oxidative stress in mouse chondrocytes and its interventional effect and mechanism in knee osteoarthritis. METHODS:(1)In vitro cell experiment:Primary chondrocytes from C57BL/6 mice were extracted and induced with 10 ng/mL interleukin-1β to construct an in vitro chondrocyte model of osteoarthritis. The optimal concentration of Hemin(0,1,10,20,40,80,and 160 μmol/L)for the intervention in mouse chondrocytes was determined by cell counting kit-8 method.Chondrocytes were randomly divided into control group, model group(interleukin-1β)and Hemin group(interleukin-1β+Hemin).Reactive oxygen species, mitochondrial membrane potential and apoptosis of chondrocytes in each group were detected.(2)In vivo experiment:Adult C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into normal group, model group(osteoarthritis)and Hemin group(osteoarthritis+Hemin),with eight mice in each group. After 4 weeks of Hemin treatment, the behavioral test and histopathological observation of the knee joint were performed in each group.Changes in extracellular matrix-related protein expression and apoptosis in chondrocytes and the expression level of Nrf2/HO-1 protein in cartilage tissue were detected. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In vitro experiment:the optimal concentration of Hemin on primary chondrocytes was 40 μmol/L.Compared with the model group, the level of reactive oxygen species was significantly reduced, the mitochondrial membrane potential was significantly improved, and the apoptosis of chondrocytes was reduced in the hemin-treated interleukin-1β-induced chondrocytes. In vivo experiment:After 4 weeks of treatment, compared with the model group, the lower limb function of mice in the Hemin group was significantly improved, the histopathological score was significantly improved, and the apoptosis of knee chondrocytes was significantly reduced. All these findings indicate that Hemin can alleviate oxidative stress, restore mitochondrial function and reduce apoptosis in mouse chondrocytes induced by interleukin-1β.Hemin can improve extracellular matrix degradation, promote chondrocyte anabolism, reduce catabolism and reduce chondrocyte apoptosis in knee osteoarthritis. It may act by activating the chondrocyte Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway in the inflammatory environment.

Two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (2D NMR) is a widely used technique for structural analysis of small molecular compounds. It can obtain information about the hydrogen-hydrogen correlation, hydrogen-carbon single bond correlation, hydrogen-carbon remote correlation, and hydrogen-hydrogen spatial arrangement of compounds. Thus, 2D NMR has an irreplaceable role in the structure elucidation of small molecular products. However, the sample amount of trace components in phytochemical research is very low, and the traditional sampling method (uniform sampling) has problems of poor spectral quality and too long measure time. Increasing the number of scans results in several hours of the acquisition time for a single two-dimensional spectrum, which in turn causes strain on the NMR machine. The non-uniform sampling (NUS) technique can shorten the acquisition time to a large extent and not affect the quality of 2D NMR data, which greatly improves the efficiency of 2D NMR acquisition. In this paper, fuziline, a small molecular compound in the lateral roots of

Triple-negative breast cancer is therapeutically challenging due to the low expression of tumor markers and 'cold' tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment. Here, we present a dual-targeting peptide-drug conjugate (PDC) for tumor inhibition. Our PDC efficiently and selectively delivers cytotoxic Monomethyl Auristatin E (MMAE) into tumor cells via C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4) and folate receptor 1 (FOLR1) for synergistic inhibition of growth and metastasis. Our results show that the dual-targeting PDC has potent antitumor activity in cultured human cells and several murine transplanted tumor models without apparent toxicity. The combination of dual-targeting PDC and radiotherapy modulates the tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment by increasing CD8+ T cell infiltration and attenuating the proportion of myeloid-derived suppressor and regulatory T cells. Therefore, our dual-targeting PDC represents a promising new strategy for cancer therapy that rebalances the immune system and promotes tumor regression.

Progress in Biochemistry and Biophysics 2025;52(4):1027-1035
Biomolecular condensates are formed through phase separation of biomacromolecules such as proteins and RNAs. These condensates exhibit liquid-like properties that can futher transition into more stable material states. They form complex internal structures via multivalent weak interactions, enabling precise spatiotemporal regulations. However, the use of inconsistent and non-standardized terminology has become increasingly problematic, hindering academic exchange and the dissemination of scientific knowledge. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss the terminology related to biomolecular condensates in order to clarify concepts, promote interdisciplinary cooperation, enhance research efficiency, and support the healthy development of this field.

Journal of Preventive Medicine 2025;37(9):886-891
Objective:
To explore the effect of different obesity indicators in predicting cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (CVD) risk among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), so as to provide the evidence for the early identification of CVD risk among T2DM patients.
Methods:
The patients with T2DM under community management in Qingpu District, Shanghai Municipality were selected as the study subjects in January 2025. Basic information such as gender, age, and blood glucose control status were collected through the Shanghai Chronic Disease Information Management System, while history of CVD were obtained from residents' electronic health records and the Shanghai Disease Control Information Platform. Obesity was assessed using body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), BMI combined with WC, waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and triglyceride (TG) combined with WC indicators. The association between obesity and CVD was analyzed using multivariable logistic regression models. The predictive effect of each obesity indicators for CVD was evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC).
Results:
A total of 4 367 patients with T2DM were included, including 2 121 males (48.57%) and 2 246 females (51.43%). The average age was (68.71±8.05) years. The prevalence of CVD was 44.49%. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for age, education level, history of hypertension, duration of T2DM, use of glucose-lowering medications, renal function, and blood glucose control status, obese T2DM patients had a 389.4% increased risk of CVD compared to those with normal BMI; centrally obese T2DM patients had a 100.4% increased risk compared to those with normal WC; T2DM patients with isolated general obesity and compound obesity had 161.0% and 241.1% increased risks of CVD, respectively, compared to those with normal BMI and WC; centrally obese T2DM patients had a 100.4% increased risk compared to those with normal WHtR; T2DM patients with normal TG-high WC and high TG-high WC phenotypes had 83.1% and 68.8% increased risks of CVD, respectively, compared to those with normal TG and normal WC (all P<0.05). BMI had the highest AUC, at 0.714, with sensitivity and specificity of 0.675 and 0.642, respectively. This was followed by BMI combined with WC, which had an AUC of 0.707, with sensitivity and specificity of 0.635 and 0.679, respectively.
Conclusions
Obesity defined by BMI, WC, BMI combined with WC, WHtR, and TG combined with WC increases the risk of CVD among patients with T2DM. BMI and BMI combined with WC have better predictive effect in predicting CVD risk among patients with T2DM, and can be used as the primary obesity indicators for CVD risk screening.
