Objective:To observe macular vascular density and structural characteristics in children with transfusion-dependent β-thalassemia (TDT).Methods:A retrospective clinical study. From October 2022 to December 2023, 29 TDT children (58 eyes) diagnosed and examined at the Department of Hematology, Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Medical University were included in the TDT group, along with 29 age- and gender-matched healthy children (58 eyes) as the control group. All participants underwent optical coherence tomography and angiography. Measurements included central macular thickness (CMT), subretinal choroidal thickness (SFCT), choroidal thickness (ChT), choroidal vascularity index, blood flow density in the superficial capillary plexus (SCP), deep capillary plexus (DCP), choriocapillaris layer (CC), and choroidal layer of the macular region, as well as the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area of the SCP and DCP. A generalized estimating equation was used to compare differences in the above parameters between the two groups. Pearson correlation analysis was employed to examine the relationships between fundus structural parameters, blood flow density, and blood indices. Results:Compared with the control group, the TDT group showed significantly thinner CMT ( χ2=6.044) and ChT at 3.0 mm nasal ( χ2=4.451) and temporal ( χ2=4.767) to the fovea ( P<0.05). The TDT group also demonstrated reduced blood flow density in the inferior DCP ( χ2=5.254), whole CC ( χ2=3.996), and superior CC ( χ2=5.094), as well as enlarged FAZ area in DCP ( χ2=4.286) ( P<0.05). Correlation analysis revealed a negative correlation between SFCT and disease duration ( r=?0.357, P=0.006). Conclusions:In children with TDT, CMT and ChT become thinner and the area of FAZ expands. The blood flow densities of DCP and CC in the macular area decreased.

Non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) is one of the major histopathological types of lung cancer, accounting for about 85 percent of all lung cancers. The human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) alteration in NSCLC include gene mutations, gene amplifications, and protein overexpression, and is one of the important driving target. Currently, the treatment options for HER-2 altered NSCLC are still relatively limited, and more effective drugs are urgently needed. Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are a highly efficient combination of targeted monoclonal antibodies and cytotoxic drugs that enable precision therapy for tumors. This paper discusses the current status of treating HER-2 variant NSCLC and the research progress of ADCs in HER-2 variant NSCLC, as well as their development prospects in NSCLC.

Objective:To observe the therapeutic effect of combining low-frequency pulsed electrical stimulation with Beckman oral muscle exercise training in relieving drooling among persons with Parkinson′s disease (PD).Methods:A random number table was used to divide 120 PD patients with drooling into a mouth muscle training group, an electrical stimulation group, and an observation group, with 40 patients in each group. In addition to routine medication, the oral muscle training group was given Beckman oral muscle exercise training, the electrical stimulation group underwent low-frequency pulsed electrical stimulation treatment, while the observation group was provided with both. Before and after 4 weeks of treatment, the severity of salivation, the frequency of repeated empty swallowing, oral motor function, saliva secretion, and life quality of the three groups were evaluated using the Saliva Rating Scale (DRS), the Repeated Saliva Swallowing Test (RSST), oral motor function grading, the Parkinson′s Disease Saliva Clinical Scale (SCS-PD), saliva weighing, and the PD Quality of Life Scale (PDQ-39).Results:After the treatment the average DRS, SCS-PD, saliva weighing and PDQ-39 results of the observation group were significantly better than those before treatment and better than the other 2 groups′ averages. That group′s average RSST and oral motor function scores had increased significantly compared to before treatment, and compared with the other 2 groups′ averages at the same time point. Conclusions:Combining low-frequency pulsed electrical stimulation with Beckman oral muscle exercise can improve oral motor function, swallowing, and the life quality of PD patients who drool. It is more effective than electrical stimulation or oral muscle exercise training alone. Such combination therapy is worthy of clinical promotion and application.

Chinese Journal of School Health 2024;45(8):1080-1085
Objective:
To explore the effectiveness of machine learning in predicting adolescent Internet gaming disorder, so as to provide guidance for formulating effective intervention measures.
Methods:
From June to September,2023,a total of 2 100 students from 3 middle schools and 3 high schools in Bijie City, Qianxi City and Jinsha County, Guizhou Province were selected by stratified random cluster sampling as research subjects. Data was collected by using several instruments, including the Nine item Internet Gaming Disorder Scale-Short From (IGDS9-SF), Parental Psychological Control and Autonomy Support Questionnaire(PPCASQ), Motivation Structure Questionnaire, Relative Deprivation Questionnaire, Deviant Peer Association Questionnaire, and Dual Systems of Self control Scale. Descriptive statistical analysis was conducted to characterize the sample features, and the distribution differences of categorical variables were analyzed by using Chi square test and Mann-Whitney U test. Demographic variables and various influencing factors were served as independent variables, and whether adolescents were addicted to Internet gaming was the dependent variable. Various machine learning algorithms, including random forest, Logistic regression, support vector machine, gradient boosting trees, decision trees, and adaptive boosting were employed to construct predictive models.
Results:
The detection rate of Internet gaming disorder among adolescents was 4.57% (96 cases). Males and middle school students had higher Internet gaming disorder detection rates (5.52%,6.29%) than females and high school students (3.32%,3.62%), and the differences were statistically significant ( χ 2=5.71,7.86, P <0.01).The scores of relative deprivation, deviant peer affiliation, paternal psychological control, maternal psychological control, control motivation, impulsive system and its dimensions (impulsivity, distractibility, low delay of gratification) in Internet gaming disorder group were higher than in non Internet gaming disorder, while the score of parental autonomy support was lower than that in the non Internet gaming disorder group ( Z =-2.88,-9.32,-4.13,-4.48, -6.58 ,-7.50,-7.18,-7.56,-7.43,-2.27, P <0.05). The adaptive boosting algorithm performed the best (accuracy=99%, recall=95%, F1 score=97%, AUC=0.96). Random forest and gradient boosting trees also performed excellently (accuracy=98%, recall=95%, F1 score=97%, 96%, AUC=0.96).
Conclusions
Compared to other models, the adaptive boosting algorithm shows a good predictive effectiveness for adolescent Internet gaming disorder. Appropriate models should be selected to identify individuals with Internet gaming disorder as early as possible, to develop effective intervention strategies and reduce the risk of Internet gaming disorder.

Chinese Journal of Organ Transplantation 2023;44(4):229-236
Objective:To explore the protective effect of methyl eugenol (Me) on islet ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and elucidate its underlying mechanism. Methods:The islets were isolated and purified from 6-8 week male BALB/c mice and divided into four groups of normal control (normal culture without any treatment), hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R treatment), H/R+ dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO dosing plus H/R treatment) and H/R+ Me (Me dosing plus H/R). Viability of islet cells in each group was detected by acridine orange (AO)/propidium iodide (PI) double stain.Function of islet cells (insulin secretion) was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Murine islet β Min6 cells were selected for detecting the effect of Me on the proliferative activity of normal cultured and H/R treated islet cells under different concentration gradients by CCK8.Then Min6 cells were divided into four groups of normal, H/R, H/R+ DMSO and H/R+ Me.The definition of group was the same as that of primary murine islets.Flow cytometry and Hoechst 33342 nuclear stain were utilized for detecting cell apoptotic rate in each group. The protein expressions of p-JNK, p-p38, JNK, p38, Bcl-2 and Bax were detected by Western blot. And the data were processed by one-way ANOVA or t test. Results:The proportion of dead islet cells in H/R group was (29.47±2.65)% and it was significantly lower than that in normal group (7.63±1.53)%.And the inter-group differences were statistically significant ( P<0.001). The proportion of dead islet cells was (20.63±3.07)% in H/R+ Me group. It was higher than that in H/R group (29.47±2.65)% and in H/R+ DMSO group (30.13±1.50)% and inter-group difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05 & P<0.01). Under the stimulation of high glucose, the insulin secretion level of islet in H/R+ Me group was (1.76+ 0.08) mg/L, which was higher than that in H/R group and H/R+ DMSD group(1.24±0.14)mg/L and(1.27±0.05)mg/L, and the difference was statistically significant[(1.76±0.08) vs. (1.24±0.14) mg/L; (1.76±0.08) vs.(1.27±0.05) mg/L, P<0.01]. There was no significant effect on cell viability after Me dosing within a certain concentration range (0-40 μmol/L). After Me dosing (5 μmol/L), cell viability of H/R-treated Min6 cells was significantly higher than that without Me.And the difference was statistically significant[(1.19±0.03) vs.(1.00±0), P<0.01]. As compared with H/R and H/R+ DMSO groups, overall apoptotic rate declined in H/R+ Me group (Hoechst 33342 stain: 14.50%±1.05% vs. 23.30%±1.18%, 14.50%±1.05% vs. 22.77%±1.75%, P<0.001; Flow cytometry: 4.36%±0.54% vs. 21.44%±1.02%, 4.36%±0.54% vs. 21.68%±3.06%, P<0.01). The expressions of p-JNK and p-p38 were down-regulated (p-JNK: 0.77±0.06 vs. 1.03±0.05, 0.77±0.06 vs.0.93±0.04, P<0.001; p-p38: 0.80±0.05 vs. 1.01±0.08; 0.80±0.05 vs. 1.00±0.05, P<0.05) while Bcl-2/Bax ratio rose (1.62±0.13 vs. 0.72±0.10, 1.62±0.13 vs. 0.74±0.13, P<0.01). Conclusions:Me can improve the viability and function of islets and suppress the apoptosis of Min6 cells after H/R.The mechanism is correlated with JNK and p38 MAPK signaling pathways.
