Objective:To sinicize the English version of the rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder symptom severity scale (RBDSSS) and to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of RBDSSS (RBDSSS-C) among Chinese patients with rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD).Methods:RBDSSS-C was ultimately formed through translation, back translation and revision according to the Brislin's translation model, including patient version (RBDSSS-PT) and bedpartner version (RBDSSS-BP). A questionnaire survey was conducted among 120 RBD patients to test the reliability and validity of the RBDSSS-C, using Cronbach’s α coefficient, Spearman-Brown coefficient, Spearman correlation analysis, content validity index and factor analysis. The correlation between RBDSSS-C and RBDQ-HK was examined.Results:For the Chinese version of RBDSSS-PT, the Cronbach’s α was 0.795, the split-half reliability was 0.756, and the test-retest reliability was 0.940. Item-level content validity indices (I-CVI) ranged from 0.833 to 1.000, and the scale-level CVI (S-CVI) was 0.937.For the Chinese version of RBDSSS-BP, the Cronbach’s α was 0.712, the split-half reliability was 0.813, and test-retest reliability was 0.950, with both I-CVI and S-CVI at 1.000.The scores of Chinese version of RBDSSS-PT and RBDSSS-BP were both significantly correlated with RBDQ-HK scores ( r=0.638, P<0.001 for RBDSSS-PT; r=0.639, P<0.001 for RBDSSS-BP). Factor analysis confirmed both single-factor structure for RBDSSS-PT and RBDSSS-BP.RBDSSS-PT showed χ2/ df=3.930, CFI=0.954, TLI=0.937, and RMSEA=0.093; RBDSSS-BP showed χ2/ df=8.300, CFI=0.975, TLI=0.966, and RMSEA=0.079. These results indicated adequate model fit. Conclusion:RBDSSS-C has good reliability and validity, and can be used as a reliable and effective tool to evaluate the severity of symptoms in Chinese RBD patients.

An increasing number of studies have shown that there is a close relationship between Alzheimer's disease(AD)and diabetes mellitus(DM).Traditional Chinese medicine holds that"kidney yin deficiency"is the common pathogenesis of these two diseases,while modern medicine believes that their pathogenesis involves abnormal aggregation of amyloid proteins,insulin deficiency and resistance,inflammatory response,oxidative stress,and autophagy,among others.The well-known traditional Chinese medicine formula Liuwei Dihuang Pills plays a significant role in the treatment of these two diseases with the same therapeutic approach.Therefore,this article will explore the connection between Liuwei Dihuang Pills and the treatment of AD and DM from different aspects;analyze the common etiology and pathogenesis of AD and DM,and explain the mechanism of prevention and treatment of Liuwei Dihuang Pills,with the aim of providing new ideas and methods for the integrated traditional and Western medicine prevention and treatment of AD and DM in the future.

Objective To elucidate the independent risk factors for AF in elderly patients with HF,develop a nomogram prediction model,and assess its predictive value for AF in elderly HF pa-tients.Methods A retrospective study was conducted on 299 patients of first HF hospitalization in Hengshui People's Hospital from June 2019 to December 2023,and based on the presence or absence of AF,they were divided into an AF group(133 cases)and a non-AF group(166 cases).The patients admitted from June 2019 to December 2022 were assigned into a modeling cohort(206 cases),while those from January 2023 to December 2023 into a validation cohort(93 cases).The general data were collected.Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed on the modeling cohort to identify the independent predictors of AF in elderly HF patients,and a nomo-gram prediction model was constructed.ROC curve,calibration curve and clinical decision curve analyses were applied to evaluate the discrimination,calibration and clinical practicability of the prediction model.Results Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the etiology of HF(CHD vs HP,OR=0.610,95％CI:0.301-1.250,P=0.178;CMD vs HP,OR=0.213,95％CI:0.052-0.883,P=0.033),LAD(OR=1.081,95％CI:1.020-1.152,P=0.015),HF classifi-cation(HFmrEF vs HFrEF,OR=5.897,95％CI:2.448-14.201,P=0.000;HFpEF vs HFrEF,OR=7.211,95％CI:2.522-20.640,P=0.001),pre-albumin(PALB)(OR=0.438,95％CI:0.217-0.901,P=0.030),UAC(OR=2.186,95％CI:1.075-4.430,P=0.025),and direct biliru-bin(DBi)(OR=4.531,95％CI:2.052-9.990,P=0.000)were independent risk factors for AF in the elderly HF patients.ROC curve analysis showed the AUC value of the prediction model based on these factors in the modeling cohort was 0.831,and the AUC value in the validation cohort was 0.840.Decision curve analysis indicated that the model possessed clinical practicability within a probability threshold range of 10％-82％for the modeling cohort and 12％-100％for the vali-dation cohort.Conclusion Our nomogram prediction model based on multivariate logistic regres-sion analysis exhibits good predictive value for the occurrence of AF in elderly HF patients,and can facilitate clinical decision-making on diagnosis and treatment.

Objective This study investigated the protective effects of Corni Fructus ethanol extract on β-amyloid protein 25-35 (Aβ25-35)-induced Alzheimer's disease (AD) mice by regulating histone lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD1) / postsynaptic density protein 95 (PSD95) on synapses and neuroinflammation. Methods Specifically, according to the body weight, 40 C57BL/6N mice were randomized into four groups: the sham operation group, the model group, the low-dose (0.1mg/g) and the high-dose (0.3 mg/g) Corni Fructus ethanol extract groups. Aβ25-35 was injected into the hippocampus of mice in three groups except for the sham operation group to established AD model. All mice were orally administered with either Corni Fructus ethanol extract or vehicle by gavage for 7 days before molding and continued 5 days after surgery for a total of 60 days. Morris water maze, Y maze and open field tests were performed to evaluate the recognition memory and space exploration ability of mice. The expression of LSD1, PSD95, synaptophysin (SYN), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and H3K9me2 level were measured by Western blotting. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (CHIP) combined with qPCR was used to detect H3K9me2 modification of PSD95 promoter region and mRNA levels of PSD95. The correlation between the expression of H3K9me2 and PSD95 and the expression of IBA1 in the hippocampus were detected by immunofluorescence assay.Results The result showed that Corni Fructus ethanol extract significantly reversed Aβ25-35-induced learning and memory impairment in AD mice. Compared with the model group, Corni Fructus ethanol extract demonstrated shorter escape latency, increased number and time of autonomous activities and the rate of autonomous alternation. Moreover, it increased the expression of LSD1 in hippocampus of AD mice(P<0.05), and reduced H3K9me2 modification level in the promoter region of PSD95 gene, and then promoted the mRNA transcription and protein expression of PSD95. Immunofluorescence staining indicated the reduction of H3K9me2 modification level in hippocampus was accompanied by the enhancement of PSD95 expression. Corni Fructus ethanol extract could also inhibit the activation of microglia and reduce the expression of proinflammatory factors IL-1β and TNF-α.Conclusion Corni Fructus ethanol extract may regulate PSD95 gene transcription by up-regulating the expression of LSD1 and reducing the H3K9me2 modification level in its promoter region, thereby increasing the expression of PSD95, a key protein in synaptic plasticity regulation, which alleviate neuroinflammatory response, improve learning and memory dysfunction in AD model mice, and thus play a protective role in Aβ25-35-induced nerve damage.

Objective To compare the effectiveness of Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (DIMS) and High Aspheric Lenslet (HAL) defocus lenses in controlling myopia. Methods A total of 214 children and adolescents who were fitted with defocus lenses (DIMS or HAL) in our hospital from January to June 2023 were selected, including 100 cases in DIMS group and 114 cases in the HAL group. Changes in parameters such as spherical lens power, cylindrical lens power, spherical equivalent (SE), corneal curvature (K), axial length (AL), binocular accommodative response (BCC), positive/negative relative accommodation (PRA/NRA), distance/near latent phoria (DLP/NLP), and accommodative convergence to accommodation ratio (AC/A) were compared between the two groups before wearing and after wearing the lenses for 6 months, and the effectiveness of myopia control between DIMS and HAL was further compared. Results After wearing the lenses (DIMS or HAL) for 6 months, the average increase in axial length was (0.09±0.14) mm, the average increase in spherical lens power was (-0.11±0.23) D, the average increase in astigmatism was (-0.07±0.16) DC, and the average increase in spherical equivalent was (-0.15±0.24) D, with statistically significant differences observed for all these changes (t=9.24, -7.27, -6.60, -9.03, respectively, P < 0.001). Compared with parameters before wearing the lenses, statistically significant differences were noted after wearing for 6 months in spherical lens power, cylindrical lens power, SE, BCC, PRA, DLP, average K, and AL (P≤0.001), except for NRA (t=-0.12, P>0.05), NLP (t=-0.28, P>0.05), and AC/A (t=0.33, P>0.05). The differences in parameters between the two groups after wearing the lenses for 6 months showed a statistically significant difference only in the AL difference (t=4.38, P≤0.001), with no statistically significant differences observed for other parameter differences (P>0.05). Conclusion Wearing defocus lenses has a positive effect on controlling myopia, delaying axial length elongation, and maintaining binocular visual function balance.

Objective:To document the clinical features of children with cerebral palsy (CP) using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).Methods:The gross motor functioning of 325 children diagnosed as having CP was graded using the gross motor function classification system (GMFCS). The GMFCS grades were correlated with MRI results in univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. The significance of any relationship between the MRI results and co-morbidities was tested using chi-squared tests.Results:Cerebral dysplasia, cerebroventricular enlargement, periventricular leukomalacia (PVL), abnormal signals in the thalami, and morphological changes after hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy were all found to be significantly correlated with GMFCS grading. Moreover, the chi-squared tests indicated that PVL children, children with thinning of the corpus callosum and/or abnormal signals in the thalami were significantly more likely to have visual, auditory or speech impairment complications and/or mental retardation.Conclusions:The findings from MRI correlate well with types of CP, GMFCS grades and co-morbidities among CP children. MRI can be an effective tool for early diagnosis and prognosis of CP in children, indicating needs for clinical rehabilitation.

Key requirements of successful animal behavior research in the laboratory are robustness, objectivity, and high throughput, which apply to both the recording and analysis of behavior. Many automatic methods of monitoring animal behavior meet these requirements. However, they usually depend on high-performing hardware and sophisticated software, which may be expensive. Here, we describe an automatic infrared behavior-monitor (AIBM) system based on an infrared touchscreen frame. Using this, animal positions can be recorded and used for further behavioral analysis by any PC supporting touch events. This system detects animal behavior in real time and gives closed-loop feedback using relatively low computing resources and simple algorithms. The AIBM system automatically records and analyzes multiple types of animal behavior in a highly efficient, unbiased, and low-cost manner.
