ObjectiveBiochemistry and Molecular Biology, a discipline that elucidates life phenomena at the molecular level, serves as a core foundational course in medical education. It provides the theoretical basis for studying other basic and clinical medical subjects, as well as for understanding pathogenesis, disease diagnosis, and treatment. However, its complex content and highly abstract concepts have posed a dual challenge to traditional teaching models: “inefficient instruction” and “inadequate learning outcomes”. Within limited classroom hours, how to engage students and stimulate their intrinsic motivation, and how to help them recognize, understand, and develop a passion for biochemistry from the perspective of the discipline’s essence, have long been key focuses of curriculum research. MethodsUsing the lipid metabolism chapter as an example, this study employs “Rain Classroom”, a generative artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted platform, to support education in four dimensions: teaching, learning, evaluation, and research. In teaching, it assists instructors through virtual experiments, lesson preparation support, knowledge mapping, and assignment design. For learning, it serves as an intelligent study assistant for students, providing automated assignment review, enabling educational resource sharing, and facilitating personalized learning pathways. In evaluation, the platform automates assignment grading, analyzes student performance data, and offers diagnostic feedback and teaching recommendations. In research, it aids educators in collecting and analyzing teaching data, as well as searching for and summarizing relevant literature. ResultsThe results indicate that an educational model integrating teacher-led instruction, student-centered learning, and generative AI assistance significantly enhances teaching quality, students’ self-directed learning abilities, and knowledge mastery. Furthermore, with the support of generative AI, curriculum-based ideological education—focusing on cutting-edge disciplinary advances and topical medical issues—helps cultivate students’ medical spirit of “honoring life and healing the wounded”, thereby fostering the establishment of appropriate professional values. Finally, while generative AI presents both opportunities and challenges for higher education, this study also analyzes potential risks in its teaching applications, emphasizing the need for both instructors and students to avoid over-reliance and to ensure that technological tools consistently serve the fundamental goals of education. ConclusionThis study demonstrates that integrating generative AI, specifically via the “Rain Classroom” platform, can effectively enhance biochemistry education. By supporting teaching, learning, evaluation, and research, this approach improves both educational effectiveness and student outcomes. It also facilitates the incorporation of cutting-edge knowledge and professional ethics, nurturing a patient-centered mindset. Additionally, the study addresses potential implementation risks to ensure that such technological tools remain aligned with the core purpose of education.

Background:
and Purpose Vertebrobasilar fusiform aneurysms (VBFAs) carry substantial morbidity and mortality, but optimal management for unruptured VBFAs remains unclear. We compared the safety and efficacy of conservative management (CM), stent-assisted coiling (SAC), and flow diverters (FDs) in patients with unruptured VBFAs, focusing on long-term prognosis.
Methods:
This study included data from a nationwide Chinese cohort of patients with vertebrobasilar dissecting aneurysms. Inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) balanced confounders across groups. The primary outcome was poor prognosis (modified Rankin Scale score >2). Secondary outcomes included aneurysm rupture, ischemic stroke, compression symptoms, and VBFA-related deaths. Logistic regression estimated odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed.
Results:
Among 1,115 patients with unruptured VBFAs, 838 (median age, 54 years; 655 men) were included. After IPTW, baseline characteristics were balanced. Median follow-up was 54 months. FD was associated with a lower risk of poor prognosis than CM (OR, 0.48 [95% CI, 0.30 to 0.77]; p=0.002), with no difference between CM and SAC. FD also reduced aneurysm rupture (OR, 0.20 [95% CI, 0.07 to 0.60]; p=0.004) and compression symptoms (OR, 0.30 [95% CI, 0.13 to 0.68]; p=0.004) versus CM. Time-to-event analyses further revealed significant differences in vertebral artery lesions and Type I–II VBFAs, whereas no significant differences were observed in basilar or vertebrobasilar junction lesions or in Type III–IV VBFAs.
Conclusions
Compared with CM, FD was associated with improved long-term outcomes in unruptured VBFAs, particularly in vertebral artery lesions and Type I–II VBFAs, although residual confounding cannot be excluded.

Body weight abnormalities, including overweight, obesity, and underweight, have become a dual public health challenge in Chinese adults: overweight and obesity lead to a variety of chronic complications, while underweight increases the risks of malnutrition, sarcopenia, and organ dysfunction. To systematically address these issues, multidisciplinary experts in endocrinology, sports science, nutrition, and psychiatry from various regions have held multiple weight management seminars. Based on the latest epidemiological data and clinical evidence, they expanded the guideline to include assessment and intervention strategies for underweight, in addition to the core content of obesity management. This guideline outlines the etiological mechanisms, evaluation methods, and multidimensional management strategies for overweight and obesity, covering key areas such as diagnosis and assessment, medical nutrition therapy, exercise prescription, pharmacological intervention, and psychological support. It is intended to provide a scientific and standardized approach to weight management across the adult population, aiming to curb the rising prevalence of obesity, mitigate complications associated with abnormal body weight, and improve nutritional status and overall quality of life.

Objective To investigate the effect of individual pretreatment of preoperative medical multi-dimensional carbohydrates on intraoperative body temperature in elderly patients with hip replacement under general anesthesia. Methods A total of 81 elderly patients who underwent unilateral hip replacement in Yancheng Third People's Hospital from January 2022 to June 2024 were selected as the study subjects, and they were randomly divided into the conventional group and the pretreatment group. Both groups of patients were given routine fasting and drinking restriction before operation, and patients in the pretreatment group were given individual pretreatment of 5 mL/kg medical multi-dimensional carbohydrates 2 hours before anesthesia. The perioperative related indicators, body temperature, intraoperative hypothermia, adverse reactions during the recovery period, and pre-anesthesia gastric antral ultrasound examination results of patients in the two groups were compared. Results There was no statistically significant difference in the surgical time or intraoperative intravenous fluid infusion between the two groups (P>0.05). The anesthesia recovery time, tracheal extubation time and intraoperative bleeding volume of patients in the pretreatment group were significantly shorter/less than those in the conventional group (P<0.05). At 30 minutes,60 minutes and the end of the surgery, the body temperature of patients in the pretreatment group was significantly higher than that in the conventional group (P<0.05),and the incidences of intraoperative hypothermia and shivering in the pretreatment group were significantly lower than those in the conventional group (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the cross-sectional area (CSA) of gastric antrum, gastric volume (GV) or ratio of gastric volume/weight (GV/W) between the two groups of patients (P>0.05). Conclusion The individual pretreatment of 5 mL/kg medical multi-dimensional carbohydrates before surgery can significantly reduce the incidence of intraoperative hypothermia in elderly patients with hip replacement under general anesthesia, promote anesthesia recovery, reduce intraoperative bleeding volume and adverse reactions, and not increase the risk of reflux aspiration.

Journal of Integrative Medicine 2025;23(6):683-693
OBJECTIVE:
Angiogenesis is a critical target for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment. The previous studies indicated that Jiedu Fang (JDF) could inhibit hypoxia-induced angiogenesis through interleukin-8 (IL-8). Therefore, the present study further explores the mechanisms behind JDF's inhibition of HCC angiogenesis.
METHODS:
Angiogenesis was assessed with the capillary-like tube formation assay in vitro and the matrigel plug angiogenesis assay in vivo. A liver cancer-related gene set and genes associated with angiogenesis and the hypoxic microenvironment were analyzed using a bioinformatics platform. Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting assays were used to assess the targeted mRNA and protein levels, respectively. The Transwell assay was used to assess the migration and invasion potential of EA.hy 926 cells. The orthotopic tumor xenograft model was established, and immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence assays were used to detect cluster of differentiation 31 and angiopoietin 2 expression, while an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to detect vascular endothelial growth factor and IL-8 protein levels.
RESULTS:
In vitro and in vivo assays showed that IL-8 promoted angiogenesis, and JDF could antagonize this effect. Bioinformatics analysis indicated that aurora kinase A (Aurora A) was an important candidate, which can promote IL-8 expression through activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3). The overexpression of Aurora A increased IL-8 secretion and promoted HCC migration, invasion, and angiogenesis, which was partly inhibited by JDF. Such effects were validated by in vivo assays. Further validation using the STAT3 inhibitor S3I-201 demonstrated that STAT3 was regulated by Aurora A.
CONCLUSION
JDF exhibits efficacy in reducing hypoxia-induced angiogenesis in HCC through a mechanism involving the Aurora A/STAT3/IL-8 signaling pathway. Therefore, JDF holds promise as a potential therapeutic approach for targeting HCC angiogenesis. Please cite this article as: Zhong MF, Luo YJ, Guo YY, Xiang S, Lin WF. Objective:To explore the application effects of improved case-based learning (CBL) combined with hierarchical and progressive teaching in the standardized training of nuclear medicine resident physicians. Methods:A total of 43 resident physicians who rotated in the nuclear medicine base of our hospital between 2018 and 2023 were selected as the research subjects and divided into an experimental group ( n=22) and a control group ( n=21) according to the order of enrollment. The control group received the traditional teacher-centered teaching model and was divided into junior and senior subgroups according to the training years. The experimental group received the improved CBL combined with hierarchical and progressive teaching. First, through multidimensional evaluation (theoretical testing + standardized case analysis), the students were scientifically divided into preliminary, intermediate, and advanced levels. Subsequently, progressive teaching objectives were set for different levels, and real clinical cases embedded with hierarchical learning tasks were published. During the teaching process, a dynamic discussion mode combining homogeneous and heterogeneous grouping was adopted, and personalized guidance was provided by the teachers. Finally, dynamic hierarchical adjustment was implemented through process evaluation. After the training, the two groups were compared in terms of exit assessment performance (including professional basic theory and practical skills) and teaching satisfaction. Results:The total score of the exit assessment of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group [(86.90±6.78) vs. (75.09±8.45)], and the difference was statistically significant. In terms of practical skill assessment, the experimental group scored higher than the control group in modules such as imaging symptom description [(22.34±2.56) vs. (19.85±3.12)], localization diagnosis [(23.01±2.11) vs. (20.12±2.98)], qualitative diagnosis [(22.89±2.67 vs. 18.67±3.45)], and differential diagnosis [(21.56±2.89) vs. (17.23±3.78)] ( P<0.01). The teaching satisfaction survey showed that the satisfaction scores of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group in nine domains, including theoretical knowledge mastery, clinical thinking, image interpretation, and learning initiative ( P<0.05). Conclusions:The improved CBL combined with hierarchical and progressive teaching can effectively improve the exit assessment performance, clinical practice skills, and teaching satisfaction of nuclear medicine resident trainees, and is worthy of promotion.
