Objective:
To investigate the trends in incidence and mortality of lung cancer in Huangpu District, Shanghai Municipality from 2002 to 2019, so as to provide the evidence for formulating lung cancer prevention and control measures.
Methods:
Data of lung cancer incidence and mortality among residents in Huangpu District from 2002 to 2019 were collected through the Shanghai Cancer Registration and Reporting Management System. The crude incidence and mortality of lung cancer was calculated, and standardized by the data from the Chinese Fifth National Population Census in 2000 (Chinese-standardized rate) and the Segi's world standard population in 1960 (world-standardized rate). The trends in incidence and mortality of lung cancer among residents by age and gender were evaluated using annual percent change (APC).
Results:
A total of 12 965 cases of lung cancer were reported in Huangpu District from 2002 to 2019, and the crude incidence rate was 80.66/105, the Chinese-standardized incidence rate was 34.54/105, and the world-standardized incidence rate was 31.30/105, all showing upward trends (APC=4.588%, 2.933% and 3.247%, all P<0.05). A total of 10 102 deaths of lung cancer were reported, and the crude mortality rate was 62.30/105, showing an upward trend (APC=0.959%, P<0.05); the Chinese-standardized mortality was 25.93/105, and the world-standardized mortality was 22.05/105, both showing downward trends (APC=-1.282% and -1.263%, both P<0.05). The crude incidence and mortality rates of lung cancer in males were higher than those in females (101.39/105 vs. 60.52/105, 85.45/105 vs. 39.87/105, both P<0.05). The crude incidence and mortality rates of lung cancer showed upward trends with age (both P<0.05), reaching their peaks in the age groups of 80-<85 years (341.37/105) and 85 years or above (355.97/105), respectively.
Conclusions
The incidence of lung cancer showed an upward trend, while the mortality showed a downward trend in Huangpu District from 2002 to 2019. Elderly men were the high-risk group for lung cancer incidence and mortality.

OBJECTIVES:
To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of human metapneumovirus (hMPV) and the risk factors for severe pneumonia in hospitalized children.
METHODS:
The epidemiological characteristics of hMPV in hospitalized children at Hebei Children's Hospital from January 2019 to December 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical data of hospitalized children with hMPV infection from April to December 2023 were included, and independent risk factors for severe pneumonia were identified through logistic regression.
RESULTS:
A total of 44 092 children were tested, with an hMPV positive rate of 7.30% (3 220/44 092). Children aged 3-6 years constituted the largest proportion (40.93%, 1 318/3 220) among hMPV-positive cases. The detection rate varied significantly by year (P<0.001), peaking in 2022 (12.35%, 978/7 919). The peak season of the epidemic was winter and spring from 2019 to 2021, but shifted to spring and summer from 2022 to 2023. The proportion of co-infection was 38.70% (1 246/3 220), primarily with rhinovirus (600/1 246, 48.15%), Mycoplasma pneumoniae (217/1 246, 17.42%), and respiratory syncytial virus (182/1 246, 14.61%). The main manifestations of hMPV pneumonia were cough, expectoration, and fever. Children with severe pneumonia were significantly younger (P<0.05). Wheezing, underlying diseases, co-infection, and younger age were identified as independent risk factors for severe pneumonia (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
There are significant annual and seasonal differences in the epidemiological characteristics of hMPV in hospitalized children. Young age, underlying diseases, wheezing, and co-infection are independent risk factors for severe pneumonia.

Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2024;49(2):175-181
Objective:Chronic urticaria presents a chronic process of recurrent attacks, and its first-line treatment is second-generation antihistamine with limited treatment options. The efficacy of antihistamine varies among individuals and cannot meet the needs of all patients. This study aims to explore the clinical efficacy and safety of Zhiyang Xiaozhen granules combined with antihistamine in the treatment of chronic urticaria patients. Methods:We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of patients with chronic urticaria who visited the Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from April 2020 to March 2021.The patients who received conventional second-generation antihistamine treatment were selected as a control group, while the patients who received combined treatment with Zhiyang Xiaozhen granules on the basis of conventional second-generation antihistamine treatment were selected as an observation group. The differences in the Weekly Urticaria Activity Score(UAS7)and Dermatology Life Quality Index(DLQI)between the 2 groups before and 4 weeks after treatment were compared. The Symptom Score Reduce Index(SSRI)was used to evaluate and compare the efficacy of the 2 treatment regimens. Results:After 4 weeks of treatment, the UAS7 levels in both groups were significantly reduced(P=0.001 and P<0.001,respectively).The effective rates of the control group and the observation group were 61.11%and 59.38%,respectively when converting UAS7 to SSRI for efficacy evaluation, and there was no statistically significant difference in efficacy between the 2 groups(P>0.05);however,when converting DLQI to SSRI for efficacy evaluation, the effective rates of the control group and the observation group were 33.33%and 46.88%,respectively,and the difference in efficacy between the 2 groups was statistically significant(P<0.001).There were 3 patients with adverse drug reactions related to drowsiness in both groups. Conclusion:The combination of Zhiyang Xiaozhen granules and second-generation antihistamine can effectively improve disease activity in patients with chronic urticaria, and the improvement in quality of life is better than that with the second-generation antihistamine alone.

OBJECTIVES:
To study the treatment outcomes of extremely preterm infants.
METHODS:
A retrospective analysis was performed for the clinical data of extremely preterm infants who were admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2016 to December 2022. The infants were divided into a non-in-hospital death group and a survival group. SPSS 29.0 was used for data analysis.
RESULTS:
A total of 422 extremely preterm infants were included, of which 155 were in the non-in-hospital death group and 267 in the survival group. The gestational age, birth weight, cesarean section rate, and proportion of mothers with premature rupture of membranes >18 hours in the non-in-hospital death group were all lower than those in the survival group (P<0.05). In contrast, the proportions of Apgar score ≤3 at 1 minute, intubation, neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, early-onset sepsis, periventricular-intraventricular hemorrhage (grades III-IV), and pneumorrhagia were higher in the non-in-hospital death group compared to the survival group (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
Low gestational age, low birth weight, the history of birth asphyxia, severe intracranial hemorrhage, and pneumorrhagia may be the main causes of non-in-hospital death in extremely preterm infants, and therefore, perinatal health care should be enhanced to reduce the onset of asphyxia and severe diseases.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 2023;39(10):1944-1949
Aim To explore the protective effect of Yishen Huashi Granule (YSHS) on streptozotocin (STZ) - indueed diabetes nephropathy (DN) in mice and its possible mechanism. Methods The STZ induced DN mice model was established, which was randomly divided into model group, YSHS group and YAP inhibitor Vertepofin group, and the eontrol group was also established. The intervention was started eight weeks after the successful modeling with the course of four weeks. Urine protein concentration before and after intervention in each group as well as serum creatinine (Scr) and blood urea nitrogen (Bun) levels after intervention were measured. After the treatment, the mice were sacrificed, and the pathological changes of glomeruli were observed by light microscope HE staining. The protein expression of YAP, p-YAP S127 and CTGF were detected by Western blot, and the mRNA expressions of YAP, CTGF and podocyte functional proteins nephrin, podophyxin and WT1 were detected by RT-PCR. Results The biochemical indexes of YSHS group were better than those of model group, and HE staining showed that the pathological injury of glomeruli was improved. In the model group the protein expression of YAP, p-YAP (S127) and CTGF as well as the mRNA expression of YAP and CTGF increased, while the mRNA expression of nephrin, podocalyxin and WT1 decreased. After YSHS treatment, the protein expression of YAP, p-YAP S127, CTGF and the mRNA expression of YAP and CTGF decreased, while the mRNA expression of nephrin, podocalyxin and WT1 increased. Conclusions YSHS can reduce urinary protein, protect renal function and alleviate glomerular pathological injury in DN mice. Its possible mechanism may be related to the down-regulation of YAP in renal tissue, the reduction of CTGF expression level and the up-regulation of podocyte protein mRNA expression.

AIM:To evaluate the changes in corneal biomechanics of patients with moderate refractive error after receiving small-incision lenticule extraction(SMILE)and femtosecond laser-assisted laser in situ keratomileusis(FS-LASIK)using the corneal visualization Scheimpflug technology(Corvis ST).METHODS:Prospective cohort study. A total of 65 moderate myopia patients(65 eyes)who were scheduled to undergo refractive surgery at the Ophthalmic Refractive Surgery Center of the Ningxia Eye Hospital from November 2020 to November 2021 were included in the study, and there were 30 eyes in the SMILE group and 35 eyes in the FS-LASIK group. The changes in corneal biomechanical parameters, including integrated radius(IR), inverse concave radius(ICR), deformation amplitude ratio 2mm(DAR2), stiffness parameter at first applanation(SP-A1), ambrosio relational thickness(ARTh)and the central curvature radius at highest concavity(HC-Radius)were observed by Corvis ST between both groups preoperatively and 1 and 3mo postoperatively.RESULTS: There were no statistical significance in biomechanical parameters between two groups of patients 1 and 3mo postoperatively(P>0.05). IR, ICR and DAR2 of each groups of patients 1 and 3mo postoperatively were significantly increased than those preoperatively, and SP-A1, ARTh and HC-Radius were significantly decreased than those preoperatively(all P<0.05). The biomechanical parameters at 1mo and 3mo postoperatively showed no statistical significance(P>0.05). In addition, a positive correlation was found between central corneal thickness(CCT)and ARTh and SP-A1 of the two groups of patients at 3mo postoperatively(FS-LASIK group: r=0.727, 0.819, SMLIE group: r=0.683, 0.434, all P<0.05), while a negative correlation was found between CCT and IR and ICR at 3mo postoperatively.(FS-LASIK group: r=-0.697, -0.622, SMLIE group: r=-0.447, -0.491, all P<0.05).CONCLUSION:For patients with moderate myopia, both SMILE and FS-LASIK can reduce corneal biomechanical stability. Both surgeries showed no significant differences in the effect on biomechanical, and the biomechanical has been stabilized at 1mo postoperatively. A correlation was found between postoperative CCT and ARTh, SP-A1, IR and ICR.
