1.Herbal Textual Research on Piperis Longi Fructus in Famous Classical Formulas

This article systematically analyzes the historical evolution of the name, origin, medicinal parts, producing area, harvesting and processing, nature, flavor and efficacy of Piperis Longi Fructus by referring to the materia medica, medical books, and prescription books of past dynasties, combined with the relevant modern literature, in order to provide a basis for the development and utilization of famous classical formulas containing this herb. According to the herbal textual research, the name of Piper longum first appeared in Nanfang Caomuzhuang, and it also has other aliases such as Biboli, Halou, and Hujiaohua. Historically, the origin of Piperis Longi Fructus has been P. longum of the Piperaceae family. In ancient times, both the fruit and root were used as medicine, and since the Republic of China, the fruit has been mainly used as medicine. The medicinal part is the dried, nearly ripe or ripe fruit spikes. Piperis Longi Fructus is native to India and has been introduced into China since the Tang dynasty. In the Ming dynasty, Bencao Pinhui Jingyao clearly stated that the genuine producing area was "Duanzhou", present-day Zhaoqing in Guangdong province. Nowadays, it is planted in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Yunnan and other regions. Historically and currently, harvesting occurs in autumn. The ancient processing method uniformly involved removing the stems, soaking in the sourest vinegar overnight, baking, and scraping off the peels and grains with a knife until clean. In modern times, impurities are removed, and it is dried in the sun and crushed when used. The properties, functions and applications of P. longum are basically the same in ancient and modern times. It tastes pungent, is warm in nature, and non-toxic. It has the effects of warming the middle-jiao to dispel cold, lowering Qi and relieving pain, and is used for cold pain in the epigastrium and abdomen, vomiting, diarrhea, chest pain, headache, and toothache. Based on the research results, it is recommended that when developing famous classical formulas containing Piperis Longi Fructus, the dried nearly ripe or ripe fruit spikes of P. longum should be used. If there are no clear processing requirements, it is recommended to use the raw products for medicinal use, and the specific processing methods can refer to the relevant requirements under Piperis Longi Fructus in the 2025 edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China. If processing requirements such as soaking in vinegar and peeling are clearly specified, it is recommended to follow the ancient methods.

3.Comparative Study on Effect of Jingui Shenqiwan and Liuwei Dihuangwan on Reproductive Ability and Brain Function of Normal Mice

ObjectiveTo explore the effects of Jingui Shenqiwan (JSW) and Liuwei Dihuangwan (LDW) on the reproductive ability and brain function of normal mice and compare the actions of the two medications. MethodsSeven groups of female and male mice were divided at a ratio of 2∶1. Except for the control group, the other six groups were as follows: a group of both males and females receiving JSW (3.0 g·kg-1), a group of both males and females receiving LDW (4.5 g·kg-1), a group of males receiving water and females receiving JSW, a group of males receiving water while females receiving LDW, a group of females receiving water while males receiving JSW, and a group of females receiving water while males receiving LDW. Each group was administered the drug for 14 days and then caged together at a 2∶1 (female∶male) ratio to detect the number of pregnant mice and calculate the pregnancy rate. Pregnant mice continued receiving the drug until they naturally gave birth, which was followed by the observation of newborn mice, calculation of their average number, and the measurement of the offspring's preference for sugar water and neonatal recognition index. At the end of the experiment, the weights of the thymus and spleen were measured to calculate the organ coefficients, and mRNA or protein expression was analyzed in the brain and testes or ovaries. A 1% sucrose solution was used to examine the euphoria of their brain reward systems, while novel object recognition test (NOR) was applied to assess their memory capabilities. mRNA expression was detected using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR) assay, and protein expression was analyzed with Western blot. ResultsCompared with the control group, oral administration of JSW to both male and female mice for 14 days significantly increased the pregnancy rate of female mice on day 2 after being caged together (P<0.05), while LDW showed a trend but no statistical significance. Additionally, compared with the control group, JSW could upregulate the gene expression of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) in the thalamus, as well as reproductive stem cell factor (SCF) and tyrosine kinase receptor (c-Kit) in the testes and reproductive stem cell marker mouse vasa homologue (MVH) in the ovaries, upregulate the expression of proteins influencing neuronal functional activity, such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), in hippocampal neurons (P<0.05), and enhance sucrose preference in male mice (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, JSW significantly increased sucrose preference and novel object recognition index in offspring mice (P<0.05), which was related to the upregulation of hippocampal dopamine D1 receptor (D1R) and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (Nmdar) gene expression. Compared with the control group, both JSW and LDW could upregulate the protein expression of glucocorticoid receptor (GR), BDNF, and tyrosine kinase receptor B (TrkB) in the hippocampus of offspring mice (P<0.05). ConclusionJSW significantly enhances the reproductive ability of normal mice, which is not only related to the release of gonadotropin but also associated with its regulation of brain function. Additionally, JSW has a certain regulatory effect on the brain function of the offspring mice.
4.Research progress of parasite-derived microRNA in Echinococcus and echinococcosis

Echinococcosis is categorized into alveolar echinococcosis and cystic echinococcosis, a potentially fatal zoonotic disease that seriously damages the host. MicroRNA is a type of endogenous small non-coding RNA that binds specifically to the target gene mRNA sequence to promote mRNA degradation, or combines with other non-coding RNA to regulate or inhibit translation. Echinococcus-derived microRNA participates in various biological processes in the Echinococcus lifecycle and in the interaction and pathogenesis between Echinococcus and host through extracellular vesicle transport. This article reviews the research progress of parasite-derived microRNA in regulating the growth and development of echinococcosis and cross-species regulation of hosts, providing a reference for diagnosing and treating echinococcosis.
5.A case analysis of a scabies infection outbreak in a middle school in Shaanxi Province

ObjectiveTo conduct an epidemiological investigation and analysis of a clustered scabies outbreak in a middle school, so as to provide evidence for developing targeted prevention and control strategies. MethodsCase data on a clustered scabies outbreak occurring in a middle school of Shaanxi Province in 2025 were collected. Field epidemiological approaches were adopted to define cases, search for infected individuals, and describe the temporal, spatial, and population distribution. Specimens were collected from individuals and surrounding environments for laboratory testing. ResultsA total of 25 scabies cases were identified in 4 classes and 9 dormitories of the school. All cases were first-year high school students. The overall attack rate was 6.00% (25/414); the attack rate was 10.53% (22/209) among male students and 1.46% (3/205) among female students. The disease course ranged from 10 to 30 days, with a median duration of 14 days, and 3 students (12.00%) continued attending classes with ongoing infection. Skin scrapings collected from lesion sites of 3 patients were examined under microscopy, all of which were positive for Sarcoptes scabiei; no laboratory testing was performed for the remaining cases. This clustered scabies infection outbreak lasted for one month. All affected students recovered completely without severe complications or deaths, and the outbreak was effectively contained. ConclusionThis scabies infection is a clustered school-based scabies outbreak caused by Sarcoptes scabiei. Affected patients present relatively severe symptoms and a prolonged disease course. Scientific and standardized preventive systems should be established to enable timely early warning and emergency response.
6.Integrative analysis of mRNA-miRNA-lncRNA competitive endogenous RNA network in browning of subcutaneous white adipose tissue in mice under cold stimulation

Objective:To analyze the differentially expressed messenger RNA(mRNA), microRNA(miRNA), and long non-coding RNA(lncRNA)during the browning of mouse subcutaneous adipose tissue, construct a competitive endogenous RNA(ceRNA)network, and provide a theoretical basis for investigating the regulatory mechanisms of white adipose tissue browning.Methods:A cold-stimulated mouse model was established for transcriptome sequencing.Bioinformatics tools were employed to screen for differentially expressed mRNAs, miRNAs, and lncRNAs.An integrated mRNA-miRNA-lncRNA analysis was performed to construct a ceRNA network.Gene Ontology(GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG), and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis(GSEA)were conducted on the differentially expressed mRNAs and ceRNA networks to explore transcriptional regulation during the cold-induced browning of subcutaneous adipose tissue.Results:Transcriptomic analysis of the cold-stimulated model identified 4, 256 differentially expressed RNAs, which include 3, 600 mRNAs, 588 lncRNAs, and 68 miRNAs.GO and KEGG analyses revealed that the browning of white adipose tissue involves immune-related processes, such as immune system processes, immune responses, adaptive and innate immune responses, and the positive regulation of T-cell activation.A ceRNA network associated with browning regulation was constructed, comprising 233 nodes(188 mRNAs, 34 miRNAs, and 11 lncRNAs)and 351 edges.Protein-protein interaction(PPI)analysis of the mRNAs within the ceRNA network highlighted pathways including apoptosis, intracellular signaling transduction, hypoxia-inducible factor-1(HIF-1), AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK), Janus kinase-signal transducer and activators of transcription(JAK-STAT)signaling, carbon metabolism, glycolysis, and thyroid hormone pathways, all of which regulate lipid metabolism, hypoxia, and glycolysis.Cytohubba analysis identified the top 10 hub genes: Bcl2, Src, Cebpb, Creb1, Runx1, Foxo3, Ets1, Socs3, Slc2 a4, and Pkm. Conclusions:The ceRNA network that regulates the browning of white adipose tissue is involved in various pathways, including carbon metabolism, glycolysis, thyroid hormone signaling, growth hormone signaling, prolactin signaling, as well as the HIF-1, AMPK, and JAK-STAT pathways.Key regulatory miRNAs in this context include miR-30e-5p, miR-182-5p, miR-20b-5p, miR-144-3p, miR-363-3p, miR-141-3p, miR-203-3p, and miR-107-3p.These miRNAs may serve as critical targets for inducing browning in response to cold exposure.
7.Research Progress of Molecular Probes Driven by Tumor Boundary Imaging

″Boundarics in biomedicine″(or″Biomedical boundarics″)is an emerging frontier interdisciplinary subject that focuses on addressing key scientific issues related to the formation,identification,and evolution of biological boundaries within living organisms.In this field,the study of tumor boundaries is of particular importance.Imaging tumor boundaries not only helps to reveal the molecular mechanisms of tumor boundary evolution and interaction with the microenvironment,tumor invasion and metastasis,but is also crucial for clinical tumor diagnosis,treatment decision-making,efficacy monitoring and prognosis evaluation.Molecular probes,as functional substances that enhance imaging signals,play a crucial role in tumor boundary recognition.In this article,the basic concepts and research significance of boundarics in biomedicine and tumor boundarics in biomedicine were summarized firstly.Then a comprehensive review of the research progress in tumor boundary imaging molecular probes was provided,covering areas such as magnetic imaging,optical imaging,acoustic imaging,nuclear imaging,and multimodal imaging.The strategies to regulate the sensitivity,specificity,and safety of molecular probes through chemical structure modifications,conjugation with targeting ligands,and tumor microenvironment-responsive designs were emphasized.Finally,the research trends of molecular probes for tumor boundary imaging were analyzed,and the challenges faced in this field and the future research directions were discussed.
8.Automatic Discrimination Method for Detection of Mineral Oil Based on Multiple Second-order Difference Quotient Filtering

Mineral oil contaminants composed of saturated hydrocarbons(MOSH)and aromatic hydrocarbons(MOAH)are commonly found in edible oils and related processed foods.Currently,the analysis of mineral oils primarily employs the liquid chromatography-gas chromatography-flame ionization detector(LC-GC-FID)method.Liquid chromatography is used to purify and separate MOSH and MOAH from interfering substances,and the interface technology transfers MOSH or MOAH into different GC channels for quantitative analysis.The MOSH and MOAH chromatograms typically exhibit an irregular hump shape,with sharp peaks above the hump representing natural hydrocarbon interferences,which usually do not affect the identification of the hump profile.However,when the purification of interferences is incomplete,they can form one or more gaps above the hump,interfering with the accurate judgment and delineation of the hump profile,and leading to poor reproducibility of analysis results of mineral oil.In this study,an algorithm that mimicked the manual drawing of the hump shape or contour was proposed for automatically determining the mineral oil hump contour(i.e.,the lower envelope line).The algorithm used a multiple second-order difference quotient filtering method to identify and remove the gaps above the hump.The method involved first searching and determining the lowest value of the mineral oil hump,which was the valley point sequence,and then applying second-order difference quotient filtering to the valley point sequence.Compared to the hump,the second-order difference quotient of sharp peaks was a significantly larger negative value.By filtering out the points in the valley point sequence with larger negative second-order difference quotients(or multiple second-order difference quotients),the sharp peaks above the hump were removed.To verify the accuracy of the algorithm,42 different types of samples,including edible oils and milk powders were analyzed,using both the automatic algorithm and manual methods.The results showed that there were no significant differences in the detected mineral oil contents between these two methods.
9.Regional Differences and Source Apportionment of Atmospheric Volatile Organic Compounds in A Typical Industrial City During Summer

A method for determining volatile organic compounds(VOCs)in environmental air samples using thermal desorption-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(TD-GC/MS)was developed.The qualitative and quantitative analyses of 103 kinds of VOC species were achieved under the optimal conditions such as cold trap desorption temperature and time during the thermal desorption process,combined with full-scan data acquisition using an electron impact ionization source.With a sampling volume of 3.0 L,the method exhibited detection limits of 0.1-0.5 μg/m3 and quantitation limits of 0.4-2.0 μg/m3.At spiked concentrations of 1.0 μg/m3 and 10.0 μg/m3,the recoveries ranged from 60.5%to 118.0%,with relative standard deviations varying from 2.37%to 18.70%.Furthermore,all target compounds showed correlation coefficients(R2)exceeding 0.997 across their respective concentration ranges,demonstrating that the method had high accuracy and reliability.Using this method,a study was conducted to investigate the spatial variations and source apportionment of VOCs across urban,suburban,and rural sites in Anyang,a representative industrial city,during the summer season.The results revealed significant differences in VOC concentrations among the three regions.The urban site recorded the highest concentration at 40.1 μg/m3,followed by the rural site at 23.5 μg/m3,while the suburban site had the lowest concentration of 9.74 μg/m3.With regard to compositional characteristics,alkanes were the dominant components in the urban and rural areas,whereas oxygenated VOCs were predominant in the suburban site.The ozone formation potential(OFP)also varied significantly across regions:96.0 μg/m3 in urban areas,72.0 μg/m3 in rural areas,and only 27.6 μg/m3 in suburban areas.Alkenes were identified as the primary contributors to the total ozone formation potential(TOFP)in all regions,highlighting their critical role in atmospheric oxidation processes.Source apportionment analysis using the positive matrix factorization(PMF)model identified combustion sources,natural sources,chemical industry emissions,industrial emissions,solvent use,and vehicle emissions as the major sources of VOCs in Anyang during summer.Notably,chemical industry emissions and combustion sources were dominant in urban and rural areas,whereas combustion sources and natural sources were more prominent in the suburban area,reflecting distinct emission patterns and anthropogenic activities across the regions.
10.The effect of rutaecarpine on improving fatty liver and osteoporosis in MAFLD mice

Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and osteoporosis (OP) are two very common metabolic diseases. A growing body of experimental evidence supports a pathophysiological link between MAFLD and OP. MAFLD is often associated with the development of OP. Rutaecarpine (RUT) is one of the main active components of Chinese medicine Euodiae Fructus. Our previous studies have demonstrated that RUT has lipid-lowering, anti-inflammatory and anti-atherosclerotic effects, and can improve the OP of rats. However, whether RUT can improve both fatty liver and OP symptoms of MAFLD mice at the same time remains to be investigated. In this study, we used C57BL/6 mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD) for 4 months to construct a MAFLD model, and gave the mice a low dose (5 mg·kg-1) and a high dose (15 mg·kg-1) of RUT by gavage for 4 weeks. The effects of RUT on liver steatosis and bone metabolism were then evaluated at the end of the experiment [this experiment was approved by the Experimental Animal Ethics Committee of Institute of Medicinal Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (approval number: IMB-20190124D303)]. The results showed that RUT treatment significantly reduced hepatic steatosis and lipid accumulation, and significantly reduced bone loss and promoted bone formation. In summary, this study shows that RUT has an effect of improving fatty liver and OP in MAFLD mice.
