1.Prosthetic rehabilitation using digital facebow transfer for severely erosive dentition caused by bulimia nervosa

Loss of tooth structures caused by dental erosion can compromise both function and esthetics, and extensive involvement often necessitates comprehensive restorative treatment. When utilizing a digital facebow transfer for prosthesis fabrication, the characteristics of each method must be carefully considered to choose the most appropriate technique an appropriate approach.This case report describes the prosthetic rehabilitation of a female patient with a history of bulimia nervosa. The patient presented with severely eroded dentition due to self-induced vomiting, resulting in impaired masticatory function and esthetics. For the restoration, three types of digital facebow transfer methods—standardized photography, facial scanning, and jaw motion tracking— were employed during the provisional phase to assess posterior function. Various provisional restorations with different lengths of incisal edge lengths and anterior guidance angles were tested to evaluate anterior function and esthetics. Definitive restorations were fabricated using monolithic zirconia crowns. This case report presents the successful recovery of esthetics and function through a digitally guided, full-mouth rehabilitation approach.
2.Analysis of research papers on dentistry in Korea over the recent five years (2019 - 2023)

Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to investigate and evaluate Korean dental research papers published in English over the past five years (2019 to 2023).
Materials and Methods:
A systematic search of the papers was conducted using the Medline/PubMed database. Papers published between 2019 and 2023, in which the main author was affiliated with a dental institution in Korea, were collected. In order to distinguish between papers related to dentistry, Medical Subject Heading, consisting of 229 keywords, was used. The following data were investigated in each paper: type of study; main subject; name of the journal, publisher; year of publication; number of authors; institution of the main author.
Results:
The number of Korean dental papers searched through PubMed was 4,594, and it increased to its peak in 2021 and then decreased. There were more papers published in non-specialized journalsthan in dental journals, and most of them were published in SCIE journals with high quartiles. Half of the papers were published in dental schools in Seoul.
Conclusion
This study is the first to comprehensively survey all English-language dental papers in Korea. If future studies are conducted to evaluate the quantity and quality of all dental papers using more diverse variables, it will be a great guide for the development of dentistry in Korea.
3.Evaluation of the marginal and internal fit of interim crowns fabricated using AI-based dental CAD software

Purpose:
This study aimed to assess the marginal and internal fit of interim crowns fabricated using artificial intelligence (AI)-based dental computer-aided design (CAD) software.
Materials and Methods:
The right maxillary first molar was prepared for an interim crown. Scan files were obtained using a desktop scanner and exported to three dental CAD software programs: a conventionalsoftware and two AI-based dental programs. A uniform cement gap of 60 μm was set across all software, and 10 interim crownswere designed. The crowns were fabricated using a 3D printer, and their marginal and internal fit was evaluated using the silicone replication technique. Statistical analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and post hoc analysis (α = 0.05).
Results:
A significant difference in marginal fit was observed among the three dental CAD software programs (P < 0.05). The marginal gap produced by 3Shape was significantly greater than that of the two AI-based programs (P < 0.05). No significant differences were observed in most areas regarding internal fit (P > 0.05), although Single-Pro exhibited a significantly larger occlusal gap (P < 0.05).
Conclusion
The interim crowns fabricated using Dentbird and Single-Pro demonstrated excellent marginal fit. However, further refinement is necessary, as the occlusal area of the internal fit in Single-Pro exhibited a comparatively larger gap.
4.Prosthetic rehabilitation of pseudo-Class III malocclusion using tooth- and implant-supported prosthetic restoration in centric relation (CR): a case report

This report presents the management of a patient with pseudo Class III malocclusion and unstable mandibular movements caused by the lack of a stable occlusal stop. Without posterior support, the mandibular incisors slid along the labial surfaces of the maxillary incisors during centric relation (CR) guidance, resulting in anterior mandibular closure. This pattern presented as a habitual anterosuperior mandibular displacement during voluntary closure. Provisional prostheses for the maxillary anterior teeth and mandibular posterior implants were concurrently positioned in the appropriate CR position. Following the immediate establishment of a stable stop for proper CR, stable mastication in this position was achieved. The findings suggest that the patients with unstable CR guidance due to insufficient occlusal stabilization can attain immediate functional stability through a reliable teeth stop in the corrected CR position.
5.A case report of autotransplantation of third molar with complete root formation

Autotransplantation of teeth is a valuable alternative to dental implants, offering biological compatibility and preservation of alveolar bone. This case report presents two patients who underwent autotransplantation and also discusses the advantages, limitations, and key considerations for successful autotransplantation. A 39-year-old female, received autotransplantation of a left maxillary third molar to replace a non-restorable right maxillary second molar due to fracture. Initially, an implant therapy was considered, but due to the patient’s age and contralateral maxillary third molar’s extraction need, autotransplantation was selected. A 40-year-old female, underwent autotransplantation of a left mandibular third molar to replace a left mandibular second molar lost due to failed endodontic treatment. The process of selecting an appropriate donor tooth, preoperative CBCT imaging, 3D model making, careful extraction, appropriate osteotomy of recipient socket, tooth fixation, and root canal treatment were carefully performed step by step, resulting in successful healing and functional adaptation in both cases.
6.Mouth opening limitation induced by scarring in the supporting ligaments of the temporomandibular joint following maxillectomy:a 3D simulation study

Purpose:
Mouth opening limitation following maxillectomy significantly has great influence on the quality of life. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of scarring in the supporting ligaments of the temporomandibular joint that is recognized as one of the causes of mouth opening limitation using a three-dimensional computer simulation.
Materials and Methods:
Based on the CT data from a healthy adult, a computer musculoskeletal model with a maxillary palatal defect was developed. The geometry from patient’s CT data was imported into the biomechanical simulation platform Artisynth to reproduce mandibular movement. Four simulations including scar tissue in the capsular and temporomandibular ligament were established. Forty and 60 percent of the maximum voluntary muscle contraction (MVC) were applied to evaluate the mouth opening limitation. Distance between maxillary and mandibular central incisors were evaluated.
Results:
In all simulations, the model that had scarring in the capsular ligament showed the most significant mouth opening limitation. The simulation with scarring only in the temporomandibular ligament also showed reduced mouth opening compared to the non-scarred condition. However, the effect was less than that of the capsular ligament.
Conclusion
When the capsular ligament that plays a great role in mandibular movement is scarred, it might be the one of the most important factors in mouth opening limitation. Therefore, in the surgical treatment around the temporomandibular joint, the biomechanical characteristics of the joint supporting ligaments has to be considered.
7.Surface roughness of flowable bulk fill composite resin by different polishing protocols

Purpose:
This study aimed to evaluate the surface characteristics of full body bulk fill flowable composite resins when polished using the same protocols applied to conventional flowable composite resins.
Materials and Methods:
One conventional composite resin (Filtek Supreme Flowable) and three full body bulk fill flowable composite resins (Metafil Bulk Fill, Charisma Bulk Flow ONE, G-aenial BULK Injectable) were tested. Specimens were polished using three methods: Soflex™ Extra-thin, One Gloss midi, and One Gloss midi combined with Jiffy brush. Surface roughness (Sa) was measured using a confocal laser scanning microscope, and surface morphology was examined under a scanning electron microscope. Statistical analysis was performed using two-way ANOVA and Scheffé’s test.
Results:
No interaction was found between the composite resin type and polishing method. Metafil Bulk Fill showed the highest surface roughness, while specimens polished with Soflex™ Extra-thin showed the smoothest surfaces (P < 0.05).
Conclusion
The surface roughness of full body bulk fill composite resins varies depending on the resin type and polishing method. Therefore, understanding each product’s characteristics and selecting an appropriate polishing technique is essential for achieving a clinically acceptable surface finish and long-term success of the restoration.
9.Case series on the non-surgical restoration of lost interdental papilla using a multidisciplinary approach

The ultimate goal of modern restorative dentistry is to achieve harmonious “white” and “pink” esthetics, especially in esthetically sensitive areas. In patients with severe periodontitis—marked by significant attachment loss and reduced bone support— compromised esthetics can pose a serious concern for both patients and clinicians, particularly when involving the maxillary anterior region. The restoration of lost interdental papillae remains one of the most challenging and unpredictable procedures in periodontal therapy. This study presents current multidisciplinary, non-surgical treatment modalities aimed at correcting black triangles around natural teeth and discusses key factors that influence the selection of appropriate treatment options.
10.Surgical extrusion with 180° rotation for management of a crownroot fracture in a maxillary central incisor: a case report with 1-year follow-up

In the case of crown-root fracture due to traumatic injury in anterior tooth and the fracture margin is located subgingivally, surgical extrusion can be considered as one of the treatment choices. Surgical extrusion is a one-step and less time-consuming procedure that allows dentist to examine the root fractured surface, but there are some risk factors such as tooth fracture or damage to cementum layer during extraction. The following case reports present surgical extrusion as a treatment option of crown-root fracture in maxillary anterior tooth.
