Purpose: This study is a descriptive survey examining the effects of stress, loneliness, and emotional dysregulation on adolescents’ potential for drug use. Methods: Data were collected through face-to-face surveys conducted between August 28 and September 11, 2023, with a sample of 118 second-year students from a middle school in South Korea. The survey questionnaire included items on general characteristics, substance-related characteristics, adolescent stress, loneliness, emotional dysregulation, and drug use potential. Results: The analysis revealed significant differences in drug use potential based on academic achievement, school satisfaction, family relationship satisfaction, economic status, smoking experience, and substance use history. Furthermore, drug use potential showed a significant positive correlation with stress, loneliness, and emotional dysregulation. The key predictors of drug use potential were loneliness in family relationships, emotional dysregulation, and school satisfaction with a total explanatory power of 33.8%. Conclusion To prevent adolescent drug use potential, it is essential to develop and implement nursing intervention programs that reduce family-related loneliness, provide support for emotional regulation difficulties, and promote smoking prevention.

Purpose: This descriptive survey study aimed to investigate the impact of the health literacy and compassion competencies of nurses in integrated nursing care service wards on patient-centered care. Methods: This study included 185 nurses working in integrated nursing care service wards in four tertiary hospitals located in Chungbuk and Gyeonggi provinces. Data analysis involved independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results: Regarding participants’ general characteristics, nurses with less than five years of clinical experience (t=2.30, p=.023) demonstrated a more positive attitude toward utilizing health literacy in their professional practice. The factors influencing patient-centered care included communication (β=.35, p<.001) and sensitivity (β=.21, p=.018) from compassion competence, as well as knowledge (β=.20, p=.004) from health literacy competencies, which together explained 42.0% of the variance (F=45.98, p<.001). Conclusion This study shows that health literacy and compassion are critical factors in enhancing patient-centered care in integrated nursing-care service wards. To improve these competencies of nurses, it is necessary to provide an appropriate working environment and to offer continuous training programs with various training methods. Furthermore, research on health literacy competencies tailored to the domestic context is necessary.

Purpose: This study is descriptive research aiming to identify factors influencing the stigma experienced by college students with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), focusing on COVID-19 pandemic stress, depression, and fear of negative evaluation as the main variables. Methods: An online survey was administered to 175 college students who had been diagnosed with COVID-19 from January to May 2022 and were enrolled in universities in Seoul, Cheongju, and Daegu, South Korea. The survey collected data on pandemic stress, depression, fear of negative evaluation, and stigma. The data were analyzed using the t-test, ANOVA, the Scheffé test, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression in SPSS/WIN 26.0. Results: We analyzed differences in stigma scores based on general characteristics of the college students and found significant differences in stigma scores by age, major satisfaction, interpersonal satisfaction, date of COVID-19 confirmation, treatment modality, and recent subjective health condition. Factors influencing stigmatization were identified as COVID-19 pandemic stress, depression, date of COVID-19 confirmation, treatment modality, recent subjective health condition, and major satisfaction, with an overall explanatory power of 37.6%. Conclusion This study is significant as it identifies emotional changes across various aspects of pandemic stress, depression, fear of negative evaluation, and stigma among college students who have been diagnosed with COVID-19. The findings of this study suggest the development of programs to reduce psychological distress and enhance mental health management skills among these students.

Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is a chronic and recurrent bullous disorder that may be associated with the administration of certain drugs. Recently, bullous cutaneous adverse events after immunotherapy (IT) or targeted therapy have been increasingly reported. Here, we report a case of BP in a patient diagnosed with metastatic melanoma after treatment with pembrolizumab, dabrafenib, and trametinib. Histopathological examination showed a subepidermal blister with perivascular lymphocytic and eosinophilic infiltration; the accompanying findings of linear immunoglobulin G and C3 deposition by immunofluorescence microscopy were consistent with BP. Since IT agents may initiate immune dysregulation and pathologic autoantibody production, which are required for the pathogenesis of BP, the lesions were thought to be cutaneous adverse events caused by IT.

Cowden syndrome is caused by mutations in the phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) gene and is part of the PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome. Skin lesions including trichilemmomas, acral keratosis, mucocunateous neuromas and oral paillomas are the most prevalent feature found in patients with Cowden syndrome. It also possesses an increased risk of developing malignancies including breast, thyroid, endometrial, and colorectal cancers.Due to the increased risk of cancer, early diagnosis and regular surveillance are important for Cowden syndrome patients. Herein, we report a case of Cowden syndrome with diverse cutaneous manifestations and thyroid cancer.

Purpose: : This study is descriptive research investigating the effects of incivility, job stress, and resilience experienced by emergency room nurses on turnover intention. The study will identify the degree of incivility experienced by emergency room nurses and provide data to improve and cope with the impolite situations in emergency room. Methods: : Participants were 203 nurses in the emergency departments of 10 hospitals. The data were analyzed using the SPSS Statistics 24.0 program with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test and Pearson’s correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results: : Turnover intention had significant positive correlations with job stress and incivility from various sources including patients and their caregivers, doctors, supervisors, and coworkers. In contrast, turnover intention had a significant negative correlation with resilience. The most influencing factor for increasing turnover intention was nursing job dissatisfaction, followed by neutral job satisfaction, job stress, not wanting to work in the ER, unmarried marital status, and incivility from coworkers. The total explanatory power of these factors was 36.3%. Conclusion : This study indicates that the less incivility experience among the emergency room nurses is associated with less job stress and lower turnover intention. Therefore, nursing organizations must establish specific support strategies to reduce incivility and job stress experienced by emergency room nurses and minimize their turnover intention.

Background: Intradermal injection of botulinum toxin A (BTXA) is used for cosmetic purposes without strong evidence for clinical use, as opposed to intramuscular injection. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of intradermal injection of incobotulinum toxin A (iBTXA) in the cheeks. Methods: We conducted a study with 18 volunteers who received intradermal injection of iBTXA into one cheek and normal saline into the contralateral side as a control. Volunteers visited the clinic at weeks 2, 4, 8, and 12 after injection. At each visit, pores and wrinkles were evaluated by a facial analyzer, sebum secretion by a sebumeter, skin texture by both volunteers and clinicians, and wrinkles of the nasolabial fold were graded with photographic reviews. Results: There were no significant effects on the wrinkles of the infraorbital area and sebum secretion. However, there were significant improvements in the wrinkles of the nasolabial fold and skin texture on the iBTXA injected side. The effects on the wrinkles of the nasolabial fold lasted 12 weeks, and those on skin texture lasted 8 weeks. Improvement in the pore size was observed only at week 2. No serious adverse events were reported except one volunteer who complained of facial palsy after the injection of 30 units of iBTXA in one cheek. However, injection of 20 units of iBTXA in one cheek was not associated with any adverse events. Conclusion Intradermal injection of iBTXA, could provide clinical benefits for skin texture and wrinkles overcoming the skin prick effect without obvious side effects.

Background: Scars in children are highly concerning to most parents who usually seek prompt treatment for these lesions. However, compared with adults, children show a greater tendency to develop hypertrophic scars and a higher likelihood of scar widening with increasing age. Objective: We investigated the role of laser treatment for scars in pediatric patients in view of the fact that this approach is challenging in this age group. Methods: This retrospective study included patients aged ＜17 years who visited the Samsung Medical Center between 2013 and 2018 for scar treatment. Of the 28 children who visited the center during this time, 14 presented within 4 to 5 weeks from scar onset and received laser therapy and 14 presented after 4 to 5 weeks and received topical treatment. The Stony Brook Scar Evaluation Scale (SBSES) was used to assess scar formation. Results: The mean initial SBSES scores were lower in the laser than in the topical group (1.93±0.92 vs. 2.71±0.83, p=0.0363). No intergroup difference was observed in SBSES scores upon treatment completion (4.50±0.94 vs. 4.21±1.19, p=0.4673). Multivariable analysis after adjustment for age, sex, and initial SBSES scores showed that the type (laser vs. topical) of treatment was not significantly associated with an SBSES score=5 or duration of treatment. Conclusion Laser intervention may be useful for scar therapy in children who present early and can receive prompt treatment before scar maturation; however, further studies are warranted to validate our results.

A capillary hemangioma is a vascular tumor with small capillary sized vascular channel. Multiple capillary hemangioma in relation with drugs have been rarely reported. Here in, we report a case of multiple capillary hemangioma in patient diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia who received tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). Histopathological findings have shown capillary proliferation in the upper dermis, which is consistent with capillary hemangioma. Since TKIs can paradoxically activate the MEK/ERK pathway which is required for angiogenesis, we presumed that the lesions as the cutaneous side effects of TKIs.
