Qingfeitang, specialized in resolving phlegm to stop cough and producing fluid to moisten dryness, is a classic prescription inherited and developed by physicians of successive generations and has been included in the Catalogue of Ancient Classic Prescriptions (First Batch) published by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in 2018. Relevant ancient books data and modern literature were collected by bibliometrics to analyze the historic origin, formula composition, herb origin, preparation methods, processing methods, clinical effect, and indications of Qingfeitang. The key information of Qingfeitang was summarized to provide reference for the clinical application of the decoction. In this study, a total of 43 pieces of effective data on relevant ancient literature, including 35 ancient TCM books, were collected based on a systematic collation of relevant historic and modern literature. Results showed that "Qingfeitang" was originated from the "Renshen Qingfeitang" recorded in the Taiping Holy Prescriptions for Universal Relief from the Qing dynasty. The name of "Qinfeitang" was first recorded in the Yeshi Luyanfang written by YE Dalian in the Song dynasty. We suggested the modern dosage and usage of Qingfeitang as follows: "Scutellariae Radix of 5.60 g, Platycodon grandiflora, Poria, Tangerine, Fritillaria, and Cortex Mori of 3.73 g respectively, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Asparagi Radix, Gardeniae Fructus, Armeniacae Semen Amarum, and Ophiopogonis Radix of 2.61 g respectively, Schisandra of 1 g, and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma of 1.12 g, and they were taken 3 times daily. The above formula is recommended to be decocted with 400 mL of water, with 3.37 g ginger and 6 g jujubae fructus, to 320 mL, and taken after a meal, three times per day". Qingfeitang has the effect of resolving phlegm to stop cough and producing fluid to moisten dryness, specialized in treating cough, asthma, rash, and other symptoms in ancient times. Modern applications are mainly focused on the respiratory system, used for treating diseases such as bronchopneumonia and cough. The above research results provide a reference basis for the later development and research of Qingfeitang.

Working memory is an executive memory process that includes encoding, maintenance, and retrieval. These processes can be modulated by transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) with sinusoidal waves. However, little is known about the impact of the rate of current change on working memory. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of two types of tACS with different rates of current change on working memory performance and brain activity. We applied a randomized, single-blind design and divided 81 young participants who received triangular wave tACS, sinusoidal wave tACS, or sham stimulation into three groups. Participants performed n-back tasks, and electroencephalograms were recorded before, during, and after active or sham stimulation. Compared to the baseline, working memory performance (accuracy and response time) improved after stimulation under all stimulation conditions. According to drift-diffusion model analysis, triangular wave tACS significantly increased the efficiency of non-target information processing. In addition, compared with sham conditions, triangular wave tACS reduced alpha power oscillations in the occipital lobe throughout the encoding period, while sinusoidal wave tACS increased theta power in the central frontal region only during the later encoding period. The brain network connectivity results showed that triangular wave tACS improved the clustering coefficient, local efficiency, and node degree intensity in the early encoding stage, and these parameters were positively correlated with the non-target drift rate and decision starting point. Our findings on how tACS modulates working memory indicate that triangular wave tACS significantly enhances brain network connectivity during the early encoding stage, demonstrating an improvement in the efficiency of working memory processing. In contrast, sinusoidal wave tACS increased the theta power during the later encoding stage, suggesting its potential critical role in late-stage information processing. These findings provide valuable insights into the potential mechanisms by which tACS modulates working memory.

Background::Atopic dermatitis (AD) affects approximately 10% of adults worldwide. CM310 is a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting interleukin-4 receptor alpha that blocks interleukin-4 and interleukin-13 signaling. This trial aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of CM310 in Chinese adults with moderate-to-severe AD.Methods::This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2b trial was conducted in 21 medical institutions in China from February to November 2021. Totally 120 eligible patients were enrolled and randomized (1:1:1) to receive subcutaneous injections of 300 mg CM310, 150 mg CM310, or placebo every 2 weeks for 16 weeks, followed by an 8-week follow-up period. The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients achieving ≥75% improvement in the Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI-75) score from baseline at week 16. Safety and pharmacodynamics were also studied.Results::At week 16, the proportion of EASI-75 responders from baseline was significantly higher in the CM310 groups (70% [28/40] for high-dose and 65% [26/40] for low-dose) than that in the placebo group (20%[8/40]). The differences in EASI-75 response rate were 50% (high vs. placebo, 95% CI 31%–69%) and 45% (low vs. placebo, 95% CI 26%–64%), with both P values <0.0001. CM310 at both doses also significantly improved the EASI score, Investigator’s Global Assessment score, daily peak pruritus Numerical Rating Scale, AD-affected body surface area, and Dermatology Life Quality Index compared with placebo. CM310 treatment reduced levels of thymus and activation-regulated chemokine, total immunoglobulin E, lactate dehydrogenase, and blood eosinophils. The incidence of treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) was similar among all three groups, with the most common TEAEs reported being upper respiratory tract infection, atopic dermatitis, hyperlipidemia, and hyperuricemia. No severe adverse events were deemed to be attributed to CM310. Conclusion::CM310 at 150 mg and 300 mg every 2 weeks demonstrated significant efficacy and was well-tolerated in adults with moderate-to-severe AD.Trial Registration::ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04805411.

[Objective] To explore the characteristics of lifestyle behaviors and mental health status among blood donors in Guangzhou, and to investigate the correlation between donation frequency and these factors. [Methods] A cross-sectional study was conducted among 13 042 whole blood donors from 17 street blood donation sites of Guangzhou Blood Center from May to August 2020. Descriptive analysis was used to describe the characteristics of lifestyle behaviors and mental health status among blood donors in Guangzhou. Ordinal multinomial logistic regression model was used to analyze the correlation between donation frequency and these factors. [Results] It was found that some of 13 042 blood donors had unhealthy habits, such as 6.8% (698/10 214,2 828 missing values) had severe tobacco dependence, 30.6% (3 997/13 042) had low exercise levels, 38.8%(5 056/13 042)had poor sleep quality, and 2.2% (271/12 159,883 missing values) had alcohol dependence. In addition, 2.8% (364/13 042) and 1.3% (172/13 042) of the donors may have moderate to severe depression and anxiety symptoms, respectively. The results of the ordinal multinomial logistic regression model showed that exercise level was significantly negatively correlated with the degree of depression and anxiety among blood donors. With the decrease in exercise level, the possibility of depression and anxiety among donors increased significantly. BMI, household income, education level, marital status, donation frequency, alcohol consumption and smoking had no significant correlation with the mental health status of donors. [Conclusion] Improving the exercise habits of blood donors may help enhance their mental health level. It is recommended that blood station staff strengthen the content of exercise when providing health education to blood donors to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It also suggests that there may be a certain degree of under-diagnosis of mental health problems in the process of health consultation before blood donation, and conducting more comprehensive and effective mental health assessments for blood donors is recommended.

Objective:To observe the multi-modal fundus imaging features of subretinal drusenoid deposit (SDD) in age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and observe image features. Methods:A prospective clinical study. From December 2019 to December 2023, 65 patients (104 eyes) with a diagnosis of AMD-SDD by spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) examination in Shandong Eye Hospital were included. All eyes were examined by best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), traditional color fundus photography (CFP), ultra-wide-angle scanning laser fundus imaging (UWF), multicolor scanning laser fundus imaging (MC) and SD-OCT. The standard MC images were obtained by using Spectralis HRA+OCT for MC examination. The multi-mode image characteristics of SDD were analyzed retrospectively. Area under curve (AUC) was used to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of CFP, MC and UWF in detecting SDD.Results:Among 65 patients with SDD, 29 cases of males (52 eyes) and 36 cases of females (52 eyes) was included. There were 26 patients with unilateral SDD and 39 patients with bilateral SDD. The average age was (71.74±10.97) years. The early, middle and late stages of AMD were 31 (29.8%, 31/104), 24 (23.1%, 24/104), 49 (47.1%, 49/104) eyes, respectively. The SDD detected by CFP, MC and UWF was 76 (73.1%, 76/104), 94 (90.4%, 94/104), 96 (92.3%, 96/104) eyes. CFP showed that the edge of SDD in the macular area was blurred. UWF showed that the dot and the ribbon SDD were light yellow pale discrete deposits and light yellow interlaced network deposits respectively. MC showed the dot SDD had a strong yellow-green circular reflection, while the edge of the ribbon SDD was surrounded by a weak reflection, and the boundary was clear. SD-OCT showed that SDD had strong reflection signal, which was located between the retinal pigment epithelium layer and the photoreceptor cell layer. The dot SDD could break through the ellipsoid zone and caused slight uplift or interruption of the external membrane, showing a cone-like strong reflection signal. While the ribbon SDD showed a continuous "hill-like" protrusion, which hardly broke through ellipsoid zone. The sensitivity and specificity of CFP, MC and UWF for SDD were 73.1%, 90.4%, 92.3% and 61.1%, 94.4% and 83.3%, respectively. Conclusions:MC and UWF show high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing AMD-SDD, which is superior to CFP. SD-OCT can effectively reveal the location and morphoLogical characteristics of SDD under retina.

Chinese Journal of Laboratory Medicine 2024;47(10):1212-1214
The patient was a 55-year-old man. On February 16, 2024, he was admitted to Peking Union Medical College Hospital complaining of "weakness and poor appetite for more than half a year, and found creatinine increase for 1 week". The patient was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. During the treatment in our hospital, the patient sustained"hyponatremia"(Na 124-136 mmol/L measured by indirect ion selective electrode method), and combined with the patient′s clinical symptoms and serum osmotic pressure results (327 mOsm/kg H 2O), it was considered that hyperglobulinemia led to pseudohyponatremia. So no intervention was given. Subsequent failure to recognize pseudohyponatremia during treatment in other hospitals and the administration of hypertonic saline resulted in severe iatrogenic hypernatremia. By reviewing similar cases in our hospital, we found that hyperglobulinemia/hyperlipidemia associated pseudohyponatremia was not uncommon. This case reminds us that for patients whose serum solid phase ratio is higher than normal due to various reasons, the use of indirect ion selective electrode method to determine serum sodium is prone to false low, and direct ion selective electrode method can be used to re-test blood sodium to determine whether it is true, so as to avoid iatrogenic injury to patients.
