OBJECTIVES: Depressive and anxiety disorders are among the most common mental disorders worldwide and are associated with unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. The Life's Simple 7 (LS7) guideline proposed by the American Heart Association aims to reduce cardiovascular risk by improving behaviors such as diet and physical activity, but its impact on mental health is not yet fully clear. This study examined the association between LS7 scores and symptoms of anxiety and depression in adults undergoing routine health examinations. METHODS: Data were collected from individuals who underwent health examinations from May 2015 to December 2024 at the Health Management Center of the Third Xiangya Hospital. All participants completed the LS7 assessments, the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), and the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Participants were categorized into 4 LS7 score groups: Low (≤7), average (8-9), good (10), and excellent (11-14). Those with SDS or SAS≥50 were classified as having mental disorder symptoms; with this group, SAS≥50 indicated anxiety, SDS≥50 indicated depression, and SDS and SAS≥50 indicated comorbid anxiety-depression. Binary logistic regression was used to assess associations between LS7 score and mental symptoms, calculating odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). A restricted cubic spline (RCS) regression model was used to analyze the dose-response relationship between LS7 score (continuous variable) and the risk of mental symptoms. Nodes were set at the 5th, 35th, 65th, and 95th percentiles of the LS7 score, with the 5th percentile as the reference point. All models were adjusted for covariates such as gender, age, living alone, drinking status, education level, and sleep quality. Logistic regression framework was used to fit and calculate the adjusted OR (aOR) and 95% CI. Nonlinear relationship tests were also conducted. Subgroup analysis was performed to explore the interaction between gender, age, drinking habits, education level, and other factors and the LS7 score in influencing the risk of mental symptoms. RESULTS: A total of 5 449 participants were included; 1 363 (25.01%) had depressive symptoms, 398 (7.30%) had anxiety symptoms, and 259 (4.75%) had comorbid anxiety-depression. The prevalence of mental symptoms decreased significantly as LS7 scores increased. Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression indicated that LS7 score≥8 was protective against mental symptoms. Multivariate Logistic regression demonstrated moderate discriminative ability (AUC=0.672). Among individuals with anxiety, depression, or comorbid symptoms, LS7 score distributions showed a graded decrease from poor to excellent groups. After adjustment, an excellent LS7 score was associated with a 39% lower risk of depression (aOR=0.61, 95% CI 0.47 to 0.78, P<0.001), a 63% lower risk of anxiety (aOR=0.37, 95% CI 0.22 to 0.59, P<0.001), and a 66% lower risk of comorbid anxiety-depression (aOR=0.34, 95% CI 0.17 to 0.62, P=0.001). The AUC values of the anxiety model, depression model, and comorbid anxiety and depression model were 0.632, 0.672, and 0.619, respectively. All models demonstrated moderate discriminatory ability, which was statistically significant, but their capacity to distinguish cases from non-cases was limited. RCS analysis confirmed a linear inverse relationship between LS7 score and mental symptom risk. Not smoking and regular physical activity were the strongest protective behaviors. Subgroup analysis suggested stronger protective effects in men, younger adults (≤60), non-drinkers, and those with higher education levels, and revealed a significant interaction between alcohol use and LS7 score (P for interaction=0.021), indicating that alcohol consumption may weaken the protective effect of LS7. CONCLUSIONS Ideal healthy lifestyle behaviors, as reflected by higher LS7 scores, are associated with lower risks of anxiety and depression in adults. Promoting LS7-based lifestyle practices may serve as a practical and effective strategy for the prevention and management of anxiety and depression in both clinical and daily life settings.

Osteoarthritis (OA) causes chronic pain that significantly impairs quality of life, with current treatments often proving insufficient and accompanied by adverse effects. Recent research has identified the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) and its resident macrophages as crucial mediators of chronic OA pain through neuroinflammation driven by macrophage polarization. We present a novel injectable thermo-sensitive hydrogel system, KAF@PLEL, designed to deliver an anti-inflammatory peptide (KAF) specifically to the DRG. This biodegradable hydrogel enables sustained KAF release, promoting the reprogramming of DRG macrophages from pro-inflammatory to anti-inflammatory phenotypes. Through comprehensive in vitro and in vivo studies, we evaluated the hydrogel's biocompatibility, effects on macrophage polarization, and therapeutic efficacy in chronic OA pain management. The system demonstrated significant capabilities in preserving macrophage mitochondrial function, suppressing neuroinflammation, alleviating chronic OA pain, reducing cartilage degradation, and improving motor function in OA rat models. The sustained-release properties of KAF@PLEL enabled prolonged therapeutic effects while minimizing systemic exposure and side effects. These findings suggest that KAF@PLEL represents a promising therapeutic approach for improving outcomes in OA patients through targeted, sustained treatment.

BACKGROUND:At present,postoperative timing or subjective criteria by clinicians are commonly employed to determine the return-to-sport timing for patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.Unfortunately,these criteria do not adequately consider the biomechanical deficits in patients following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. OBJECTIVE:To explore the lower extremity kinematic and kinetic characteristics of athletes after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction during bilateral vertical jumping. METHODS:Twenty athletes undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and twenty healthy athletes,aged 20-24 years,were recruited in Wuhan Sports University from December 2021 to December 2022.All the 40 subjects underwent a bilateral vertical jumping test.The kinematic and dynamic characteristics of the lower limbs at propulsion phase,initial landing time and peak vertical ground reaction force moment. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:At the initial landing time,the athletes undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction showed higher hip flexion angle(P=0.031)and lower ankle plantar flexion angle(P=0.018)on the operated side compared with the healthy athletes.At the peak vertical ground reaction force moment,the athletes undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction had higher hip flexion angle(P=0.016),lower hip abduction angle(P=0.019),lower knee flexion angle(P=0.025),higher knee external rotation angle(P=0.030),and higher ankle external rotation angle(P=0.042)on the operated side compared with the healthy athletes.At the peak vertical ground reaction force moment,the athletes undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction showed lower knee extension moment(P=0.036),lower knee internal rotation moment(P=0.016),lower hip abduction moment(P=0.004),higher hip extension moment(P=0.040),and higher hip external rotation moment(P=0.005)on the operated side compared with the healthy athletes.To conclude,the athletes undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction exhibit a stiff landing pattern,in which the knee load on the operated side tends to shift to the hip joint,and show inadequate control of lower limb rotational stability.Therefore,detection and correction of abnormal biomechanical characteristics should be part of the rehabilitation after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Objective:To investigate and summarize pediatric patients with severe Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) presenting with varied clinical and chest imaging features in order to guide the individualized treatment. Methods:This was a retrospective cohort study. Medical records of clinical, imaging and laboratory data of 505 patients with MPP who were admitted to the Department Ⅱ of Respirology Center, Beijing Children′s Hospital, Capital Medical University from January 2016 to October 2023 and met the enrollment criteria were included. They were divided into severe group and non-severe group according to whether lower airway obliterans was developed. The clinical and chest imaging features of the two groups were analyzed. Those severe cases with single lobe ≥2/3 consolidation (lobar consolidation) were further divided into subtype lung-necrosis and subtype non-lung-necrosis based on whether lung necrosis was developed. Comparison on the clinical manifestations, bronchoscopic findings, whole blood C-reactive protein (CRP) and other inflammatory indicators between the two subtypes was performed. Comparisons between two groups were achieved using independent-sample t-test, nonparametric test or chi-square test. Univariate receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were performed on the indicators such as CRP of the two subtypes. Results:Of the 505 cases, 254 were male and 251 were female. The age of the onset was (8.2±2.9) years. There were 233 severe cases, among whom 206 were with lobar consolidation and 27 with diffuse bronchiolitis. The other 272 belonged to non-severe cases, with patchy, cloudy infiltrations or single lobe <2/3 uneven consolidation or localized bronchiolitis. Of the 206 cases (88.4%) severe cases with lobar consolidation, 88 harbored subtype lung-necrosis and 118 harbored subtype non-lung-necrosis. All 206 cases (100.0%) presented with persistent high fever, among whom 203 cases (98.5%) presented with inflammatory secretion obstruction and plastic bronchitis under bronchoscopy. Of those 88 cases with subtype lung-necrosis, there were 42 cases (47.7%) with dyspnea and 39 cases (44.3%) with moderate to massive amount of pleural effusion. There were 35 cases (39.8%) diagnosed with lung embolism during the disease course, of which other 34 cases (38.6%) were highly suspected. Extensive airway mucosal necrosis was observed in 46 cases (52.3%), and the level of their whole blood CRP was significantly higher than that of subtype non-lung-necrosis (131.5 (91.0, 180.0) vs. 25.5 (12.0, 43.1) mg/L, U=334.00, P<0.001). They were regarded as subtype "lung consolidation-atelectasis-necrosis". Of those 118 cases with subtype non-lung-necrosis, 27 cases (22.9%) presented with dyspnea and none were with moderate to massive amount of pleural effusion. Sixty-five cases (55.1%) presented with plastic bronchitis and localized airway mucosal necrosis was observed in 32 cases (27.1%). They were deemed as subtype "lung consolidation-atelectasis". ROC curve analyses revealed that whole blood CRP of 67.5 mg/L on the 6-10 th day of disease course exhibited a sensitivity of 0.96, a specificity of 0.89, and an area under the curve of 0.97 for distinguishing between these two subtypes among those with lobar consolidation. Conclusions:Pediatric patients with severe MPP present with lobar consolidation or diffuse bronchiolitis on chest imaging. Those with lobar consolidation harbor 2 subtypes as "lung consolidation-atelectasis-necrosis" and "lung consolidation-atelectasis". Whole blood CRP of 67.5 mg/L can be applied as an early discriminating indicator to discriminate between these two subtypes.

The intracellular retention of nanotherapeutics is essential for their therapeutic activity. The immobilization of nanotherapeutics inside target cell types can regulate various cell behaviors. However, strategies for the intracellular immobilization of nanoparticles are limited. Herein, a cisplatin prodrug was synthesized and utilized as a glutathione (GSH)-activated linker to induce aggregation of the cisplatin prodrug/IR820/docetaxel nanoassembly. Objective:To compare the curative efficacy in the treatment of humeral surgical neck fractures between open reduction and locking plating versus closed reduction and interlocking intramedullary nailing.Methods:From July 2018 to July 2020, 60 patients with humeral surgical neck fracture were treated at Department of Orthorpaedic Trauma, Jiangmen Wuyi Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. They were 24 males and 36 females, aged from 40 to 70 years and injured at the left side in 35 cases and at the right side in 25 ones. Of them, 30 underwent open reduction and locking plating (open group) and the other 30 closed reduction and interlocking intramedullary nailing (closed group). The 2 groups were compared in terms of operation time, intraoperative blood loss, surgical incision length, fracture healing time, Neer shoulder function scoring 3 months after surgery, and postoperative complications.Results:There were no statistically significant differences between the open and closed groups in preoperative general data, showing they were comparable ( P>0.05). The length of surgical incision [(5.2±1.1) cm], operation time [(34.3±12.7) min], intraoperative blood loss [(52.5±7.3) mL] and fracture healing time [(9.2±1.5) weeks] in the closed group were significantly better than those in the open group [(11.1±2.5) cm, (69.4±21.4) min, (123.5±5.2) mL and (14.2±3.4) weeks)] ( P<0.05). The excellent and good rate by Neer shoulder function scoring at 3 months after operation in the closed group (93.3%, 28/30) was significantly higher than that in the open group (66.7%, 20/30) ( P<0.05). There were no postoperative complications in either group. Conclusion:In the treatment of humeral surgical neck fractures, the curative efficacy of closed reduction and interlocking intramedullary nailing is better than that of open reduction and locking plating.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of gallstones and common bile duct stones. Methods: Eighty-seven patients with gallstones complicated with common bile duct stones who underwent concurrent laparoscopic surgery at Zhoushan Hospital from December 2015 to December 2017 were enrolled.The patients were divided into A group and B group according to the digital table.A group(38 cases) underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) combined with laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE), and B group(49 cases) underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST) combined with laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). The curative effect of the two groups was observed.The operation time, the success rate of the operation and the rate of laparotomy were recorded in the two groups.The corresponding hospitalization time and cost were compared.The safety of the two different procedures was compared after surgery, and the complications of the two groups were recorded. Results: In A group, the average diameter of common bile duct stones was (1.02±0.25)cm, the average diameter of common bile duct diameter was (1.15±0.25)cm.In B group, the mean diameter of common bile duct stones was (0.99±0.26)cm, and the average diameter of common bile duct was (1.13±0.26) cm.The differences between the two groups were not statistically significant (t=0.513, 0.437, 0.367, P=2.083, 1.533, 1.095). The successful operation rate of A group was 92.11%(35/38), which in B group was 91.84%(45/49), the difference was not statistically significant between the two groups(χ²=0.006, P=0.974). The incidence rate of complications in B group was 20.41%, which was significantly higher than that in A group, the difference was statistically significant(χ²=3.654, P=0.019). The hospitalization time, hospitalization expenses in A group were (10.6±2.6)d, (26 649.8±3 478.6)CNY, respectively, which were significantly better than those in B group (t=21.971, 17.168, all P<0.05). Conclusion The efficacy of LC combined with LCBDE for patients with gallstones complicated with common bile duct stones is better than ERCP/EST combined with LC surgery, and the safety of the former is higher than the latter.

Objective To investigate the protective effect and its mechanism of infradiaphragmatic stasis-expelling decoction on hepatic fibrosis in rats. Method One hundred and ten SD rats were divided into four groups:the normal control group ,model group ,low dose group and high dose group of infradiaphragmatic stasis-expelling decoction. In addition to the normal control group,rats in other groups were subcutaneously given pure CCl4 to set up the liver fibrosis model. Twelve weeks later,the serum liver biochemical indexes,including ALT,AST, ALB,TP and T-bil,the Ishak score about liver fibrosis ,the positive expression of TIMP-1 were compared among groups. Results Compared with the fibrotic group,the levels of serum ALT,AST and T-bil were lower in low dose group,the level of serum TP and ALB were increased in high dose group Levels of serum ALT,AST and T-bil were significantly lowered in high dose group,the levels of serum of TP and ALB were significantly increased in high dose group. Compared with model group,the Ishak score about liver fibrosis was significantly lowered(P<0.05). Numbers of cells with positive expression of TIMP-1 in liver tissue was reduced. Conclusion Infradiaphragmatic stasis-expelling decoction could inhibit the expression and activity of TIMP-1 contributing to the effect of antiliver fibrosis.

Enhancing the heat-sensitivity of tumor cells provides an alternative solution to maintaining the therapeutic outcome of photothermal therapy (PTT). In this study, we constructed a therapeutic system, which was composed of methoxy-polyethylene-glycol-coated-gold-nanorods (MPEG-AuNR) and VER-155008-micelles, to evaluate the effect of VER-155008 on the sensitivity of tumor cells to heat, and further investigate the therapeutic outcome of MPEG-AuNR mediated PTT combined with VER-155008- micelles. VER-155008- micelles down-regulate the expression of heat shock proteins and attenuate the heat-resistance of tumor cell. The survival of HCT116 cells treated with VER-155008- micelles under 45 °C is equal to that treated with high temperature hyperthermia (55 °C) . Furthermore, we proved either the MPEG-AuNR or VER-155008- micelles can be accumulate in the tumor site by photoacoustic imaging and fluorescent imaging. anti-cancer evaluation showed that tumor size remarkably decreased (smaller than 100 mm or vanished) when treated with combing 45 °C mild PTT system, which contrasted to the tumor size when treated with individual 45 °C mild PTT (around 500 nm) or normal saline as control (larger than 2000 nm). These results proved that the VER-155008- micelles can attenuate the heat-resistance of tumor cells and enhance the therapeutic outcome of mild-temperature photothermal therapy.

Objective To understand the status of soil?transmitted nematode infections in Xiding Township,Menghai Coun?ty,Yunnan Province,so as to provide the reference for formulating the strategy of soil?transmitted nematodosis control. Meth?ods Soil?transmitted nematode eggs in feces were detected by the Kato?Katz method,and the eggs of Enterobius vermicularis were detected by the cellophane tape method in children. The soil samples were collected from vegetable ,fruit and other crop fields of 15 residents randomly to detect hookworm. Results The stool samples from 1 002 residents were examined and the soil?transmitted nematode infection rate was 20.06%(201/1 002). The infection rates of hookworm,Ascaris lumbricoides and Trichu?ris trichura were 18.96%(190 cases),1.70%(17 cases)and 0.90%(9 cases)respectively. The percentages of people with light infection of hookworm,A. lumbricoides and T. trichura were 97.37%(185/190),88.24%(15/17)and 100%(9/9)respec?tively. No infection of E. vermicularis was found. Fifteen soil samples were tested,and no hookworm was found in the soil. Con?clusion The infection rate of soil?transmitted nematode in Xiding Township,Menghai County is high,but the infectiosity is light. The control and monitoring of soil?transmitted nematodosis should be strengthened in this area.
