BACKGROUND:
High temperatures are known to be associated with an increased risk of self-harm, but the influence of demographic changes and country-level indicators on the burden of heat-related self-harm remains unclear. This study examined the key factors driving changes in self-harm mortality linked to high temperatures and explored their impact at the country level.
METHODS:
This is an ecological study that analyzes data from the 2021 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, the World Bank, and the Climate Research Unit (CRU) were analyzed. Decomposition analyses were used to identify key factors driving changes in high temperature-related self-harm mortality between 1990 and 2021. A panel data model assessed the impact of national indicators on heat-related self-harm mortality.
RESULTS:
In 2021, 14,885 deaths globally were attributed to heat-related self-harm, a 41.94% increase from 1990, with low-middle SDI regions accounting for 47.84% of these deaths. While the global death rate from heat-related self-harm declined slightly over this period, South Asia and low-middle SDI regions contributed most to the decline. However, population aging exacerbated mortality rates. Demographic and meteorological factors were also linked to heat-related self-harm.
CONCLUSION
The global decline in heat-related self-harm mortality is largely driven by reductions in females, low-middle SDI regions, and South Asia. However, population aging and growth in these regions have added to the mortality burden, slowing the overall decline. Factors such as population density are also associated with heat-related self-harm. Targeted measures are needed to mitigate heat-induced self-harm more effectively in future.

Journal of China Pharmaceutical University 2021;52(6):725-734
This study aimed to investigate the ameliorative effects of 60% ethanol elution fraction (ESMW) from Si Miao Wan on the hepatic lipid accumulation and its mechanism.TG kit, BODIPY fluorescence staining, QPCR, WB, oil red O staining, and AMPKα knockdown were used to detect the ability of ESMW to improve lipid accumulation in hepatocytes stimulated with free fatty acid.Furthermore, the effects of ESMW on the oral glucose tolerance, serum biochemical indexes, TG content in liver tissue, the expressions of mRNA and protein related to lipid metabolism in liver tissue were studied in mice fed with high fat diet to verify the mechanism of ESMW fraction on hepatic lipid accumulation. The results showed that ESMW inhibited lipid accumulation induced by free fatty acids by regulating AMPK signaling pathway, and that ESMW significantly improved the lipid metabolism of mice fed with high fat diet, with relation to AMPK signaling pathway.

Objective:To validate the feasibility of a deep learning-based clinical target volume (CTV) auto-segmentation algorithm for cervical cancer in clinical settings. Methods:CT data sets from 535 cervical cancer patients were collected. CTVs were delineated according to RTOG and JCOG guidelines, reviewed by experts, and then used as reference contours for training (definitive 177, post-operative 302) and test (definitive 23, post-operative 33). Four definitive and 6 post-operative cases were randomly selected from the testing cohort to be manually delineated by junior, intermediate, senior doctors, respectively. Dice coefficient (DSC), mean surface distance (MSD) and Hausdorff distance (HD) were used for test and comparison between auto-segmentation and RO delineation. Meantime, auto-segmentation time and manual delineation time were recorded.Results:Auto-segmentation models of dCTV 1, dCTV 2 and pCTV 1 were trained with VB-Net and showed good agreement with reference contours in the testing cohorts (DSC, 0.88, 0.70, 0.86 mm; MSD, 1.32, 2.42, 1.15 mm; HD, 21.6, 22.4, 20.8 mm). For dCTV 1, the difference between auto-segmentation and all three groups of doctors was not significant ( P>0.05). For dCTV 2 and pCTV 1, auto-segmentation was better than the junior and intermediate doctors (both P<0.05). Auto-segmentation time consumption was considerably shorter than that of manual delineation. Conclusions:Deep learning-based CTV auto-segmentation algorithm for cervical cancer achieves comparable accuracy to manual delineation of senior doctors. Clinical application of the algorithm can contribute to shortening doctors′ manual delineation time and improving clinical efficiency. Furthermore, it may serve as a guide for junior doctors to improve the consistency and accuracy of cervical cancer CTV delineation in clinical practice.

Chinese Journal of Medical Genetics 2019;36(8):837-840
OBJECTIVE:
To analyze the clinical and molecular genetic characteristics of patient with Kleefstra syndrome 1.
METHODS:
Clinical data, chromosomal karyotype and whole genome copy number variations (CNVs) of the patient were analyzed.
RESULTS:
The patient was found to have a karyotype of 45,XX,-9[4]/46,XX,r(9)(p24q34)[56]. Whole-genome CNVs detection revealed that she has carried a heterozygous deletion of approximately 670 kb at 9q34.3, which encompassed the entire EHMT1 gene. The region is strongly associated with Kleefstra syndrome (1/9q telomere deletion). In addition, the patient also had heterozygous deletion of 9pter, which may predispose to formation of ring chromosome 9.
CONCLUSION
The child was diagnosed with Kleefstra syndrome type 1 in conjunct with ring chromosome 9.
