OBJECTIVES:
To study the impact of family socioeconomic status on children's reading fluency and the chain mediation effect of family reading environment and children's living and learning styles in this relationship.
METHODS:
A total of 473 children from grades 2 to 6 in two primary schools in Nanjing were selected through stratified random sampling. The children's reading fluency was assessed, and a questionnaire was used to collect information on family socioeconomic status, family reading environment, and children's living and learning styles. The mediation model was established using the Process macro in SPSS, and the Bootstrap method was employed to test the significance of the mediation effects.
RESULTS:
Family socioeconomic status, family reading environment, and children's living and learning styles were significantly positively correlated with reading fluency (P<0.001). The family reading environment and children's living and learning styles mediated the relationship between family socioeconomic status and children's reading fluency. Specifically, the independent mediation effect of family reading environment accounted for 11.02% of the total effect, while the independent mediation effect of children's living and learning styles accounted for 10.79%. The chain mediation effect of family reading environment and children's living and learning styles accounted for 7.41% of the total effect.
CONCLUSIONS
Family socioeconomic status can affect children's reading fluency through three pathways: family reading environment, children's living and learning styles, and the chain mediation effect of family reading environment and children's living and learning styles.

Journal of Experimental Hematology 2025;33(5):1241-1247
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the clinical characteristics, treatment and prognosis of adult AML patients with NUP98::HOXA9 fusion gene.
METHODS:
From May 2017 to October 2023, among 2 113 AML patients who visited the Hematology Department of our hospital, patients with NUP98 rearrangements were screened. The clinical characteristics, chromosome karyotypes, immunophenotypes, gene mutations, treatment efficacy and prognosis of the patients with NUP98::HOXA9 positive were analyzed.
RESULTS:
Among the 2 113 AML patients, there were 18 cases with NUP98 rearrangement, including 14 NUP98::HOXA9 positive cases, with a detection rate of 0.66% (14/2 113). The median age of the NUP98::HOXA9 positive patients was 42.5 (23-64) years old. The most common chromosome karyotype was t(7; 11)(p15; p15). The immunophenotypes of all patients expressed CD13, CD33, CD117 and CD38, and most patients expressed CD34 and cMPO, while only a few expressed HLA-DR. Second-generation sequencing (NGS) was performed to detect genetic mutations associated with leukemia in all 14 patients, and the genes exhibiting a high frequency of mutation were WT1 (10/14), TET2 (7/14), and FLT3-ITD (6/14). Additionally, mutations were also observed in KRAS/NRAS, IDH1, and KIT. Of the 13 patients who received treatment, 9 achieved complete remission (CR), and all 3 patients who received azacytidine(AZA)+ venetoclax (VEN) regimen achieved CR after the first course of treatment. Within this cohort, 6 patients were classified as relapsed/refractory (6/13). 4 patients underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), of which two achieved long-term survival. The median follow-up time was 12 (2.1-65.0) months, while the median overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) were recorded as 11.4 months and 9.6 months, respectively.
CONCLUSION
The most common type of NUP98 rearrangement in adults AML patients is NUP98::HOXA9 , which is often accompanied by somatic mutations in WT1, TET2, and FLT3-ITD. These patients are prone to relapse, have short survival time, and generally face poor prognoses. Hopefully, utilization of the AZA+VEN regimen is anticipated to enhance the rate of induced remission in the patients, and some patients may prolong their survival through allo-HSCT. However, more effective treatment methods are still needed to improve the overall prognosis of these patients.

Objective:To understand the epidemiological characteristics of human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) among acute respiratory infection (ARI) cases in 16 provinces of China from 2009 to 2023.Methods:The data of this study were collected from the ARI surveillance data from 16 provinces in China from 2009 to 2023, with a total of 28 278 ARI cases included in the study. The clinical specimens from ARI cases were screened for HRSV nucleic acid from 2009 to 2023, and differences in virus detection rates among cases of different age groups, regions, and months were analyzed. Results:A total of 28 278 ARI cases were enrolled from January 2009 to September 2023. The age of the cases ranged from<1 month to 112 years, and the age M ( Q1, Q3) was 3 years (1 year, 9 years). Among them, 3 062 cases were positive for HRSV nucleic acid, with a total detection rate of 10.83%. From 2009 to 2019, the detection rate of HRSV was 9.33%, and the virus was mainly prevalent in winter and spring. During the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the detection rate of HRSV fluctuated between 6.32% and 18.67%. There was no traditional winter epidemic peak of HRSV from the end of 2022 to the beginning of 2023, and an anti-seasonal epidemic of HRSV occurred from April to May 2023. About 87.95% (2 693/3 062) of positive cases were children under 5 years old, and the difference in the detection rate of HRSV among different age groups was statistically significant ( P<0.001), showing a decreasing trend of HRSV detection rate with the increase of age ( P<0.001). Among them, the HRSV detection rate (25.69%) was highest in children under 6 months. Compared with 2009-2019, the ranking of HRSV detection rates in different age groups changed from high to low between 2020 and 2023, with the age M (Q1, Q3) of HRSV positive cases increasing from 1 year (6 months, 3 years) to 2 years (11 months, 3 years). Conclusion:Through 15 years of continuous HRSV surveillance analysis, children under 5 years old, especially infants under 6 months old, are the main high-risk population for HRSV infection. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the prevalence and patterns of HRSV in China have changed.

Chinese Journal of Cardiology 2024;52(7):777-783
Objective:To explore the genetic background and clinical features of patients with long QT syndrome type 3 (LQT3).Methods:This retrospective cohort included patients diagnosed with LQT3 at the Department of Cardiology, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University from January 1998 to December 2022. Patients were categorized into compound type group and single type group based on the presence of a single SCN5A mutation. The two groups were followed up and the differences in baseline characteristics, electrocardiograms, and clinical events between the two groups and probands were compared. Kaplan-Meier curves were used for survival analysis, and the log-rank test was employed to compare the event-free survival rates of first cardiac events between the groups and probands. Results:A total of 97 LQT3 patients were enrolled, including 59 probands. The age at diagnosis was (23.45±19.86) years, with 46 patients (47.4%) being male. Among them, 89 patients were classified as single type group, while 8 patients were classified as compound type group. Genetic testing identified 49 SCN5A mutations, with missense mutations being the majority (91.8%), primarily located in transmembrane regions (40.8%, n=20), interdomain linker regions (28.6%, n=14), and C-terminus (22.4%, n=11). The first cardiac event occurred in 44 patients (45.4%), with an onset age of (13.82±12.50) years. The main trigger was identified as rest or sleep (54.5%, n=24). Compared with patients in single type group, patients in compound type group were younger at diagnosis ((10.35±10.28) years vs. (24.63±20.13) years, P=0.040), had a significantly higher proportion of syncope (87.5% (7/8) vs. 33.7% (30/89), P=0.009), aborted cardiac arrest (62.5% (5/8) vs. 11.2% (10/89), P=0.001), and a lower incidence of event-free survival rates of first cardiac events (12.5% (1/8) vs.58.4% (52/89), log-rank P=0.001). The probands in compound type group had a significantly higher proportion of aborted cardiac arrest comparing to probands in single type group (62.5% (5/8) vs. 17.6% (9/51), P=0.020), while the difference in the incidence rate of event-free survival rates of first cardiac events between the probands in two groups was not statistically significant (12.5% (1/8) vs. 39.2% (20/51), log-rank P=0.08). Conclusion:Compound type LQT3 patients are not uncommon. Such patients are diagnosed at a younger age and exhibit more severe phenotypes, requiring close follow-up and proactive intervention strategies.

Objective To explore the regulatory role of Abelson interactor 2(ABI2)in progression and prognosis of gastric cancer. Methods TIMER2.0,GEPIA,Kaplan-Meier Plotter and DAVID databases were used to analyze ABI2 expression in pan-cancer and its association with the prognosis of gastric cancer.Gastric cancer and adjacent tissues from 120 patients undergoing radical gastrectomy in our hospital between January,2016 and October,2018 were examined for ABI2 expression and its correlation with disease progression and prognosis.MGC-803 cell models of ABI2 knockdown and overexpression were established for observing the changes in cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, and the impact of ABI2 expression modulation on xenograft growth was evaluated in nude mice. Results Database analysis and examination of the clinical samples showed that ABI2 was highly expressed in gastric cancer tissues.Survival analysis suggested that gastric cancer patients with a high expression of ABI2 had a reduced postoperative 5-year survival rate(P<0.0001),and further Cox univariate and multivariate survival analyses indicated that a high ABI2 expression was an independent risk factor affecting the patients survival outcomes(P=0.022,HR=1.887,95%CI:1.096-3.249).Enrichment analysis suggested the involvement of ABI2 in Wnt signaling. In MGC-803 cells,ABI2 overexpression promoted cell proliferation and xenograft growth in nude mice, increased the expressions of vimentin and N-cadherin,and lowered E-cadherin expression, while ABI2 knockdown produced the opposite effects.Mechanistic analysis revealed that ABI2 overexpression promoted the expressions of Wnt2 and β-catenin in both MGC-803 cells and the xenografts, and their expressions were significantly lowered by ABI2 knockdown. Conclusion ABI2 is highly expressed in gastric cancer, which affects long-term prognosis of the patients, possible due to its regulatory effect on Wnt signaling to promote proliferation, migration and invasion of gastric cancer cells.
