Objective:
To observe the distribution characteristics of sex differences in physical growth among children and adolescents aged 6-15 years in Taiwan, China from 2007 to 2024, so as to provide clues for improving growth assessment standards and promoting the health of children and adolescents.
Methods:
Using publicly available height and weight data for children and adolescents aged 6-15 years in Taiwan, China from 2007 to 2024 released by the statistics agency of the Taiwan education authorities, sex difference indices were analyzed. Growth curve charts and Pearson correlation were used to analyze the correlation between height/weight and year, as well as trends of change with age and year. These were compared with data from the 8th National Survey on Students Constitution and Health in 2019, covering Han and ethnic minority groups aged 6-15 years in mainland China.
Results:
The sex difference index for height among children and adolescents in Taiwan, China ranged from -1.20% to 6.67%, showed a trend of decreasing first and then increasing with age. The sex difference index for weight ranged from 3.76% to 19.15%, exhibited an age related trend of a slight initial increase, followed by a decrease, and then an increase. The sex difference indices for height in the 12-15 age groups and for weight in the 15-year-old group were positively correlated with the year ( r =0.74, 0.66, 0.61, 0.92 ; 0.63), while the sex difference indices for weight in the 6-8 age groups were negatively correlated with the year ( r =-0.71, -0.77, -0.53) (all P <0.05). In 2024, the height of children and adolescents in Taiwan, China increased gradually with age, but the growth rate for girls slowed down after age 12. A "two crossover" was observed in height between boys and girls, with boys being taller than girls in the 6-9 age range and after age 12. Weight for both sexes gradually increases with age, but boys have greater weight than girls at all ages. In 2019, the sexual differences in body size among children and adolescents in the Taiwan region, China (the sex difference indices for height:-0.96% to 6.49%;the sex difference indices for weight:4.69%-17.89%) fell within the variation ranges of counterparts in mainland China (the sex difference indices for height:-5.43% to 7.69%;the sex difference indices for weight:-10.12% to 21.56%).
Conclusion
The sex differences in physical growth among children and adolescents in Taiwan, China are dynamically changing with age and over the long term.

Objective To evaluate the effects of transcatheter aortic valve replacement(TAVR)on left ventricular reverse remodeling(LVRR)and outcomes in patients with mixed aortic valve disease(MAVD)and predominant aortic stenosis(AS).Methods Patients undergoing TAVR at our center between January 2020 and December 2022 were enrolled consecutively.Propensity score matching(PSM)(1∶1 ratio)was used to reduce selection bias.Transthoracic echocardiography(TTE)was used to monitor left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)and other structural parameters over time. The study outcome was a composite of cardiovascular death and rehospitalization due to cardiovascular causes.Linear mixed-effects models and logistic regression were utilized for comparing echocardiographic changes across groups and identifying independent risk factors for no-LVRR,respectively.Results After PSM,126 patients were included.MAVD group exhibited larger structural parameters(left ventricular end-systolic/end-diastolic diameter and volume, left ventricular mass index)and a lower left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)(all P<0.05).However,more pronounced improvements in left ventricular structure and hemodynamics were observed during follow-up.Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that the left ventricular mass index(LVMI)was an independent predictor of left ventricular reverse remodeling(LVRR)after TAVR,whereas persistent moderate or greater mitral regurgitation(MR)and paravalvular leak(PVL)significantly reduced the incidence of LVRR.During a median follow-up period of 23 months,a total of 31 endpoint events occurred, and there was no statistically significant difference in long-term prognosis between the two groups(Log-rank P=0.330).Conclusions Compared to patients in the AS group, those in the MAVD group exhibited more severe left ventricular remodeling before TAVR.However, more significant LVRR was observed during postoperative follow-up.Additionally,the long-term prognosis was comparable between the two groups.

The MGF300-4L protein of African swine fever virus(ASFV),a virulence-associated fac-tor,degrades IKKβ through the chaperone-mediated autophagy and enhances the stability of IKBαto suppress the generation of IL-1β and TNF-α regulated by the NF-κB signaling pathway. To iden-tify the host proteins interacting with MGF300-4L,PK-15 cells were transfected with the eukary-otic plasmid expressing MGF300-4L and analyzed using immunoprecipitation-mass spectrometry(IP-MS)to identify the host proteins that interact with MGF300-4L.Additionally,gene ontology(GO)and KEGG pathway enrichment analyses were conducted.Furthermore, molecular docking a-nalysis,co-immunoprecipitation,and laser confocal microscopy assays were performed to validate the host proteins interacting with MGF300-4L.The IP-MS analysis identified 145 host proteins that potentially interact with MGF300-4L.Subsequent GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analy-ses revealed that these proteins are predominantly involved in metabolic, cellular, and innate immune responses.Through molecular docking prediction,co-immunoprecipitation assay, and laser confocal microscopy,we identified the interaction between MGF300-4L and STAT1.This study provides critical insights into the mechanisms underlying the interactions between MGF300-4L and the host proteins.

7.Alpinetin promotes fracture healing in rats with osteoporotic fracture by regulating the cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling pathway
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2025;29(12):2438-2443
BACKGROUND:Alpinetin has anti-inflammatory,antitumor and antibacterial effects and has been proven to alleviate osteoporosis, but the effect and mechanism of alpinetin on osteoporotic fractures are still unclear.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the improvement effect of alpinetin in rates with osteoporotic fracture by regulating the cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)/protein kinase A (PKA)/cAMP-responsive element binding protein (CREB) signaling pathway.METHODS:A rat model of osteoporotic fracture was constructed using bilateral ovariectomy. The successfully modeled rats were randomly separated into model group,low-,medium-,and high-dose alpinetin group, and inhibitor group, with 12 rats per group. Another 12 rats were regarded as the sham operation group. On the day of fracture, rats in the low-,medium-,and high-dose alpinetin groups were gavaged with 7.5,15,and 30 mg/kg alpinetin+intraperitoneally injected with an equal amount of normal saline, respectively;the inhibitor group was gavaged with 30 mg/kg alpinetin+intraperitoneally injected with 5 mg/kg H-89 (a pathway inhibitor);and the model and sham operation groups were given (gavaged+intraperitoneally injected) an equal amount of normal saline, once a day for 8 consecutive weeks. Radiological examination was applied to evaluate fracture healing and assess healing scores;bone mineral density scanners were used to measure bone mineral density at the fracture site;three-point bending experiment and compression experiment were conducted to evaluate the biomechanical status of the femur;pathological damage at the fracture site in rats was observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining;enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect changes in serum alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin, type Ⅰ collagen cross-linked C-terminal peptide, and cAMP levels;western blot was applied to detect the expression of bone morphogenetic protein 2 and cAMP/PKA/CREB pathway proteins in femoral tissue.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the sham operation group, the fracture healing score, bone mineral density, maximum load, maximum stress, alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin,cAMP levels, bone morphogenetic protein 2,p-PKA/PKA,p-CREB/CREB expression in the model group were decreased, the level of type Ⅰ collagen cross-linked C-terminal peptide was increased (P<0.05). The above indicators showed opposite changes in all the alpinetin groups compared with the model group (P<0.05). Compared with the high-dose alpinetin group, the changes in the above indicators were reversed in the inhibitor group (P<0.05). To conclude, alpinetin may accelerate fracture healing in osteoporotic fracture rats,by activating the cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling pathway.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),which is essentially primary liver cancer,is closely related to CD8+T cell immune infiltration and immune suppression. We constructed a CD8+T cells related risk score model to pre-dict the prognosis of HCC patients and provided therapeutic guidance based on the risk score.Using integrated bulk RNA sequencing(RNA-seq)and single-cell RNA sequencing(scRNA-seq)datasets,we identified stable CD8+T cell signatures.Based on these signatures,a 3-gene risk score model, comprised of KLRB1,RGS2,and TN-FRSF1B was constructed. The risk score model was well validated through an independent external validation co-hort.We divided patients into high-risk and low-risk groups according to the risk score and compared the differ-ences in immune microenvironment between these two groups.Compared with low-risk patients,high-risk patients have higher M2-type macrophage content(P<0.0001)and lower CD8+T cells infiltration(P<0.0001).High-risk patients predict worse response to immunotherapy treatment than low-risk patients(P<0.01).Drug sensitivity a-nalysis shows that PI3K-β inhibitor AZD6482 and TGFβRII inhibitor SB505124 may be suitable therapies for high-risk patients, while the IGF-1R inhibitor BMS-754807 or the novel pyrimidine-based anti-tumor metabolic drug Gemcitabine could be potential therapeutic choices for low-risk patients. Moreover, expression of these 3-gene mod-el was verified by immunohistochemistry. In summary, the establishment and validation of a CD8+T cell-derived risk model can more accurately predict the prognosis of HCC patients and guide the construction of personalized treatment plans.

Objective To explore the relationship between hemorheology and Carotid Atherosclerosis. Methods The clinical data of 153 patients who underwent both hemorheological testing and carotid artery ultrasound were divided into a CAS group(n=96)and a non-CAS group(n=57)based on ultrasound findings.Clinical data and laboratory indicators were compared between two groups.Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to explore the influencing factors of CAS.The ROC curves graph were drawn to observe the role of hemorheological indicators in predicting CAS and select the optimal cutoff value based on the maximum Youden index. Results The CAS group demonstrated higher levels in age,BMI,RBC aggregation index, low&high shear reduced viscosity of whole blood, plasma viscosity and fibrinogen compared to the non-CAS group(P<0.05).The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that plasma viscosity(OR=38.270,95%CI:1.206~1214.508),age(OR=1.119,95%CI:1.065~1.176)were risk factors for the occurrence of CAS(P<0.05).The ROC curves showed that the area under the curve(AUC)of plasma viscosity and age were 0.623、0.728.Conclusion CAS patients have high levels of plasma viscosity and advanged age compared to the patient without CAS.Elevated plasma viscosity and age is a risk factor for CAS,with plasma viscosity≥1.46 mPa·s,over the age of 56.5 as a significant value for predicting CAS.
