Objective To investigate the association between physical activity levels and blood lipids among college freshmen, and to provide scientific evidence for the health management of college freshmen. Methods An electronic questionnaire survey on physical activity was conducted on freshmen of a university, and fasting blood biochemical indicators were detected. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) short form was used to evaluate the physical activity levels of the participants. Dyslipidemia was defined as an abnormality in any one of the following serum lipid parameters: total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), or non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Binary logistic regression and stratified analyses were employed to explore the relationship between physical activity and blood lipids. Results A total of 3 401 participants were included, with an average age of 18.45 ± 0.92 years, and 60.5% were female. The prevalence of dyslipidemia was 17.7%, with a higher rate among males (22.1%) than females (14.8%). After adjusting for confounding factors related to blood lipids, high-intensity physical activity was negatively associated with the risk of elevated LDL-C among males (OR = 0.36, 95% CI: 0.13–0.99, P = 0.049). Conclusion Among freshmen at a medical college in Hubei Province, high-intensity physical activity is negatively associated with the risk of elevated LDL-C in males, but this association needs to be further confirmed by larger prospective cohort studies.

Objective To gain insights into the biological characteristics of different populations of Culex tritaeniorhynchus within and around the Yellow Sea wetland from the perspective of the occurrence of resistance, we investigated the levels of resistance to deltamethrin and kdr gene mutation in the wetland and its peripheral areas. Methods Specimens were collected from Cx. tritaeniorhynchus populations at two monitoring sites in the Rare Bird National Nature Reserve and Tiaozi Ni Wetland Scenic Area, and also from two populations in Yancheng City and the Liuhe District of Nanjing, and the resistance of these mosquitoes to deltamethrin was determined using the CDC biotest bottle method. For each concentration of deltamethrin assessed, a random subset of exposed specimens was selected for amplification of the kdr gene fragment, followed by Sanger sequencing to identify and analyze resistance-associated mutations. Results The LC50 levels of deltamethrin among mosquitoes from the four populations in Luhe, Yancheng, the Rare Bird National Nature Reserve and the Tiaozi Ni Wetland Scenic Area were 2.048 5, 7.798 2, 3.473 3, and 17.695 5 mg/mL, respectively, with corresponding concentrations of deltamethrin ranging from 0.005 to 5.000,0.050 to 50.000,0.050 to 25.000 and 0.050 to 50.000 mg/mL, respectively. Furthermore, the ranges of the KT50 values were 11.76-107.43, 67.05-216.30,29.77-107.43 and 28.40-329.51 min; the 1-h knockdown rates were 34.58%-99.15%, 9.52%-43.80%, 55.09%-73.01%, and 10.09%-68.07%; and the 24-h mortality rates were 12.15%-67.52%,9.52%-79.56%,13.17%-82.21%, and 11.01%-78.99%, respectively. With respect to kdr gene mutation, we assayed a total of 63,70,59, and 57 mosquitoes for the four populations, for which we detected L1014F mutation frequencies of 14.29%, 35.00%, 20.34%, and 31.58%, respectively, with a majority of these mutations being heterozygous for resistance. In addition, five adult mosquitoes were identified has having synonymous mutations at site 1011[i. e. , AAT(asparagine)mutation to AAC(asparagine)]. Conclusions Our findings revealed the clear resistance of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus to deltamethrin in the Yancheng region of the Yellow Sea wetland, and the resistance phenotype and kdr frequency of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus in the wetland environment were comparable to those of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus in the wetland environment, thereby indicating that the resistance of different populations of Cx. tritaeniorhynchus was homogeneous under the pressure of different insecticide selection within and around the wetland. However, the underlying mechanisms need to be further studied.

Objective:To identify the influencing factors for acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients undergoing interventional embolization of intracranial aneurysms under general anesthesia and develop a predictive model. Methods:In this retrospective study, the clinical data from patients who underwent elective interventional embolization of intracranial aneurysms at Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University from January 2019 to December 2023 were collected. All the patients were divided into AKI group and non-AKI group based on whether AKI occurred postoperatively. The general data, preoperative laboratory parameters, and intraoperative parameters of the patients were obtained through the electronic medical record system and operation-anesthesia management system. The variables screened using LASSO regression were included in the multivariate logistic regression analysis to identify the risk factors for AKI following embolization of cerebrovascular aneurysms. Based on the results, a predictive model was established and evaluated. Results:A total of 428 patients were collected, with 73 in AKI group and 355 in non-AKI group. LASSO regression for variable selection and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that serum creatinine concentration, duration of surgery and age were independent risk factors, and the glomerular filtration rate and hemoglobin concentration were protective factors for AKI after interventional embolization of intracranial aneurysms ( P<0.05). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the prediction model was 0.860 (95% confidence interval 0.815 to 0.905), with a sensitivity of 0.880 and a specificity of 0.718. The calibration curve showed a mean absolute error of 0.014. The Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test indicated that there was no statistically significant difference between the predicted and observed values of the model ( χ2=3.29, P=0.915). The clinical decision curve demonstrated that the net benefit rate for patients was higher when the threshold probability ranged from 0 to 0.83. Conclusions:The glomerular filtration rate, serum creatinine concentration, hemoglobin concentration, duration of surgery and age are influencing factors for AKI following interventional embolization of intracranial aneurysms, and the prediction model established based on these factors demonstrates good predictive performance.

Objective To evaluate the effects of transcatheter aortic valve replacement(TAVR)on left ventricular reverse remodeling(LVRR)and outcomes in patients with mixed aortic valve disease(MAVD)and predominant aortic stenosis(AS).Methods Patients undergoing TAVR at our center between January 2020 and December 2022 were enrolled consecutively.Propensity score matching(PSM)(1∶1 ratio)was used to reduce selection bias.Transthoracic echocardiography(TTE)was used to monitor left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)and other structural parameters over time. The study outcome was a composite of cardiovascular death and rehospitalization due to cardiovascular causes.Linear mixed-effects models and logistic regression were utilized for comparing echocardiographic changes across groups and identifying independent risk factors for no-LVRR,respectively.Results After PSM,126 patients were included.MAVD group exhibited larger structural parameters(left ventricular end-systolic/end-diastolic diameter and volume, left ventricular mass index)and a lower left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)(all P<0.05).However,more pronounced improvements in left ventricular structure and hemodynamics were observed during follow-up.Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that the left ventricular mass index(LVMI)was an independent predictor of left ventricular reverse remodeling(LVRR)after TAVR,whereas persistent moderate or greater mitral regurgitation(MR)and paravalvular leak(PVL)significantly reduced the incidence of LVRR.During a median follow-up period of 23 months,a total of 31 endpoint events occurred, and there was no statistically significant difference in long-term prognosis between the two groups(Log-rank P=0.330).Conclusions Compared to patients in the AS group, those in the MAVD group exhibited more severe left ventricular remodeling before TAVR.However, more significant LVRR was observed during postoperative follow-up.Additionally,the long-term prognosis was comparable between the two groups.

It is proposed that the brain Xuanfu and the glymphatic system(GS)have commonality in physiological structure and similarity in functions such as transporting brain substances, transmitting brain information and clearing metabolites. It is believed that GS may be the substantial manifestation of the brain Xuanfu, and GS dysfunction is the key pathological link of depression.Xuanfu stagnation and Shenji dysfunction are the core pathogenesis of depression.Taking"Brain Xuanfu-GS"as the starting point, the patho-logical mechanism of depression is deeply explored, providing a theoretical basis for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of depression in traditional Chinese medicine.
