Objective:
To investigate the microbial mechanisms of Banxia Xiexin Decoction (半夏泻心汤, BXXXD) in the treatment of esophageal precancerous lesions.
Methods:
A total of 30 specific pathogen-free (SPF) grade female C57BL/6J mice were randomly assigned to a control group (n = 6) and a 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide (4-NQO)-exposed group (n = 24). Esophageal precancerous lesions were induced by providing the 4-NQO-exposed group with 4-NQO in drinking water (100 μg/mL) for 17 consecutive weeks, whereas control group received sterile drinking water. After model establishment, the mice in 4-NQO-exposed group were further randomized into model group and three BXXXD-treated groups: low-dose (BXXXD-L, 3.7 g/kg), medium-dose (BXXXD-M, 7.4 g/kg), and high-dose (BXXXD-H, 14.8 g/kg) groups (n = 6 per group). During the subsequent intervention period, mice in control and model groups were gavaged with sterile water, while mice in BXXXD groups were gavaged once daily with the corresponding dose of BXXXD aqueous extract for 4 weeks. Histopathological changes in esophageal tissues were observed by hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining. The fecal and esophageal microbiota were profiled via 16S rDNA high-throughput sequencing to evaluate bacterial diversity, community structure, and co-occurrence networks. BXXXD chemical fingerprints were analyzed using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole QExactive Orbitrap mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QE-MS). Serum short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) level was quantified by targeted metabolomics using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Transcriptomic analysis of esophageal tissues was performed to assess gene expression profiles.
Results:
Compared with model group, BXXXD-M group exhibited reduced mucosal hyperplasia and more orderly epithelial cell arrangement, with superior therapeutic effects in comparison with both BXXXD-L and BXXXD-H groups (P < 0.01). Microbiota analysis revealed that BXXXD increased the abundance of beneficial Enterococcus and reduced pathogenic Escherichia-Shigella in the esophagus. In the gut, BXXXD elevated the relative abundance of beneficial taxa, including Lactobacillus, Dubosiella, Bacteroides, and Faecalibacterium. Targeted metabolomics showed that BXXXD significantly reduced total serum SCFA level (P < 0.01). Transcriptomic analysis indicated that BXXXD downregulated the expression of genes associated with the progression, migration, and invasion of esophageal cancer, which were identified as kallikrein-related peptidase 6 (Klk6), defensin beta 4 (Defb4), family with sequence similarity 3 member B (Fam3b), carboxypeptidase A4 (Cpa4), serum amyloid A1 (Saa1), and chitinase-like 1 (Chil1) (P < 0.05).
Conclusion
BXXXD may reduce the expression levels of esophageal cancer-related genes and improve esophageal precancerous lesions through modulation of the gut microbiota and metabolites.

Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(4):552-557
Objective:
To explore the relationship between sleep characteristics, physical activity patterns, with depressive and anxiety symptoms in college students, so as to provide reference for student mental health promotion.
Methods:
From September to November 2023, a convenience sampling method was used to select 7 954 college students aged 18-22 years from 9 universities in Shanghai, Hubei, and Jiangxi. Assessments were conducted using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short-Form (IPAQ-SF), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7 (GAD-7), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to evaluate physical activity, depressive and anxiety symptoms, and sleep quality, respectively. Logistic regression analysis was employed to explore the impact of sleep characteristics and physical activity patterns on depressive and anxiety symptoms and their comorbidity among college students.
Results:
The detection rates for depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and comorbid depression and anxiety symptoms were 25.67%, 35.39%, and 23.15%, respectively. Factors such as gender, grade, household registration, parental education level, annual family income, family structure, and dietary habits were all associated with the detection rates of depressive and anxiety symptoms and their comorbidity (χ2=4.41-118.39, P<0.05). Physical activity patterns, sleep duration, sleep quality, and sleepwake characteristics were also associated with the occurrence of depressive and anxiety symptoms and their comorbidity (χ2=9.66-627.70, P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that college students who stayed up late and slept less than 7 had the highest risk of depressive and anxiety symptoms and their comorbidity (OR=1.93, 1.85, 1.88, P<0.05). Compared to regular physical activity patterns, insufficient physical activity patterns were associated with an increased risk of depressive and anxiety symptoms (all OR=1.18, P<0.05). Further stratified analysis results showed that the risk of depression, anxiety and their comorbidity increased in college students who stayed up late and slept less than 7 h, went to bed before midnight and slept less than 7 h, or went to bed before midnight and slept more than 7 h but did not have sufficient physical activity (P<0.05).
Conclusions
Sleep characteristics and physical activity patterns significantly affect depressive and anxiety symptoms in college students. Universities should strengthen sleep management and implement flexible physical activity interventions to help students establish healthy lifestyles.

Antibiotics are chemicals with bactericidal or bacteriostatic activity produced by microorganisms and artificially synthesized. Since the discovery of penicillin by Alexander Fleming in 1928, antibiotics have been widely used in clinical treatments as well as in the animal husbandry and aquaculture, leading to antibiotic residues in soil, water, food and other environments. At the same time, antibiotic resistance is increasingly serious, which necessitates the discovery of novel antibiotics. In recent years, with the development of synthetic biology, researchers have developed a variety of whole-cell biosensors that can respond to antibiotics. These whole-cell biosensors use microbial cells to convert antibiotic signals into readable signals, which can not only perform dynamic detection of antibiotics simply, quickly, sensitively and accurately but also effectively discover novel antibiotics. This review comprehensively summarizes the reported whole-cell biosensors for antibiotics, classifies them into two types (specific and general), and elaborates on the design principles and applications of the two types of antibiotic biosensors. This review will provide reference for the construction and application of other whole-cell biosensors for antibiotics.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of the R value in tubomanometry(TMM)for the di-agnosis of patulous eustachian tube(PET).Methods The clinical data of 58 patients with PET and 65 controls were retrospectively analyzed.TMM was performed on both groups under nasopharyngeal pressures of 30,40,and 50 mbar respectively. The diagnostic efficacy of the R value for PET was evaluated through receiver operating char-acteristic(ROC)curves.Results In the control group, the average R values under nasopharyngeal pressures of 30,40,and 50 mbar were 0.86±0.50,0.76±0.41,and 0.68±0.34 respectively. In contrast, the corresponding R values in the PET group were significantly lower, which were 0.56±0.38,0.50±0.36,and 0.46±0.38 respec-tively.According to the ROC curve analysis, the areas under the curve(AUC)at these pressures were 0.62,0.74,and 0.74 respectively. The specificity and sensitivity of the R value under nasopharyngeal pressures of 30,40,and 50 mbar were 76.90%and 54.30%,74.60%and 68.10%,86.90%and 54.30%,respectively.Under pressures of 30,40,and 50 mbar, the incidence rates of R>1 in the control group and the PET group were 29.23%(38/130)and 12.77%(12/94)(x2=8.69,P=0.003),20.00%(26/130)and 6.38%(6/94)(x2=7.20,P=0.007),10.00%(13/130)and 3.19%(3/94)(x2=2.87,P=0.09)respectively.Conclusion Although the low R value in TMM reflects the presence of PET to some extent,it does not provide adequate sensitivity and specificity to serve as an independent diagnostic criterion for PET.
7.Research progress on the application of artificial intelligence in controlled ovarian stimulation
Chinese Journal of Reproduction and Contraception 2025;45(1):14-18
In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) technology has seen widespread application in the field of healthcare, particularly revolutionizing disease diagnosis and treatment decisions. Assisted reproductive technology (ART), a crucial method for treating infertility, has also benefited from the integration of AI, especially in the intelligent development of its core process--controlled ovarian stimulation (COS). Traditional COS protocols heavily relied on the experience and subjective judgment of physicians, leading to uncertainties. However, AI technology leverages deep learning to analyze multi-dimensional data, including patients' demographic characteristics, reproductive endocrine levels, and ultrasound monitoring results, to provide precise, personalized optimization and dynamic adjustments for COS. Specifically, AI models can accurately calculate the initial COS dosage, intelligently monitor follicular development, and predict the optimal timing for ovulation triggering in real-time, significantly enhancing diagnostic and treatment efficiency, reducing the workload of physicians, and offering more individualized and precise treatment plans for patients. This article reviews the latest research progress in AI applications for individualized optimization of initial gonadotropin dosage during COS, intelligent follicular monitoring, assessment of ovarian responsiveness, and prediction of the optimal timing for ovulation triggering, aiming to provide valuable insights for the clinical practice of AI in assisted reproductive hyperstimulation.

Chinese Journal of Information on Traditional Chinese Medicine 2025;32(8):176-180
This article summarized the clinical experience of national TCM master Zhang Zhen in treating gastroesophageal reflux cough by applying the theory of"dredging and regulating qi".Professor Zhang Zhen believes that the pathogenesis of gastroesophageal reflux cough lies in the abnormal ascending and descending of qi movement in the viscera.Specifically,it is manifested as weakness of the spleen and stomach, dysfunction of the pivot mechanism, failure of the liver to dredge and disperse, failure of the lung qi to descend, insufficiency of kidney yang, and failure of the kidney to receive qi.Clinically, the treatment method of dredging and regulating qi is adopted, and the Shutiao Decoction is used as the basic prescription. The disease is treated from three aspects, namely strengthening and regulating the spleen and stomach, soothing the liver and purifying the lung, and tonifying the kidney and helping it receive qi.The regulation of the qi movement of the whole body is organically combined with that of the local areas to jointly smooth the operation of the qi movement throughout the body.It is hoped that this can provide references and ideas for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux cough in TCM.

Chinese Journal of Hospital Administration 2025;41(2):133-138
The " no-accompany" service is an important measure to meet the patients′ needs for comprehensive, continuous, and high-quality diversified care and to enhance their medical experience. Starting in March 2024, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine launched a pilot " no-accompany" service in the breast surgery and dermatology wards. The hospital established a working team led by the nursing department and involving multiple administrative departments such as the medical affairs department, medical insurance office, and logistics management department. And the hospital has successfully advanced the implementation of the " no-accompany" ward program by establishing a multi-department collaborative management mechanism, standardizing the management of medical caregivers, developing a tiered fee scheme for the " no-accompany" service, and improving relevant service measures. The acceptance of the " no-accompany" service by patients increased from (3.93±0.83) in the second quarter of 2024 to (4.69±0.59) in the fourth quarter, and overall satisfaction rose from (4.18±0.73) to (4.50±0.54) (all P<0.001). The job competency of medical caregivers also improved significantly from (64.80±3.49) before starting work in March 2024 to (94.00±2.40) in the fourth quarter ( P<0.001). These findings provide a reference for the implementation of " no-accompany" services in public hospitals.
