Environmental Microbiology, as a compulsory foundational course for the major of environmental and ecological engineering. Its knowledge system not only lays a profound theoretical foundation but also evinces a close-knit nexus to practical applications in environmental protection and ecological restoration. This course thus serves as an outstanding platform facilitating both teaching reforms and practical innovations of professional courses. With Environmental Microbiology as a paradigmatic illustration, this paper concentrates on addressing issues like archaic course contents and enervating teaching approaches, with the aspiration of augmenting students' professional acuities, practical dexterities, and innovation and entrepreneurial aptitudes. In light of the aforesaid aim, we initiated an all-encompassing probe into the teaching reform and practicable paradigms from the perspective of amalgamating professional education with innovation-steered stratagems. Across multiple fronts, comprehensive reformative undertakings were implemented, subsuming the optimization and reconfiguration of course contents, the exploration of sundry teaching methodologies, and the scientific erection of an evaluation system. Ultimately, a nascent teaching model dubbed "three-dimensional, six-loop and five-collaborative" was formed. This series of comprehensive and innovative reform measures has not only substantially augmented the profundity and extensiveness of professional knowledge, permeating into the core of disciplinary essence, but also remarkably bolstered students' practical operational capabilities and innovative thinking patterns, thereby catalyzing their transformation into well-rounded individuals with a competitive edge. By virtue of these efforts, a solid foundation has been firmly laid for the teaching reform of Environmental Microbiology and the cultivation of high-caliber environmental professionals in the contemporary era, heralding a new chapter in the development of environmental education.

Objective:To evaluate the impact of self-crosslinked hyaluronic acid (SCH) gel on endometrium recovery after artificial abortion. Methods:A multicenter, prospective randomized controlled trial was conducted across 18 hospitals from December 2021 to February 2023, involving 382 women who underwent artificial abortion. Participants were randomly allocated to receive either treatment with SCH gel (SCH group) or no treatment (control group) in a 1∶1 ratio. The primary outcome was endometrium thickness in 14 to 18 days after the first postoperative menstruation. Secondary outcomes included changes in menstrual volume during the first postoperative menstruation, menstruation resumption within 6 postoperative weeks, time to menstruation resumption, duration of the first postoperative menstruation, and incidence of dysmenorrhea. Results:Baseline characteristics of participants were comparable between the two groups (all P>0.05), with 95.3% (182/191) in SCH group and 92.7% (177/191) in the control group completed the study. The postoperative endometrial thickness in SCH group was significantly greater than that in the control group [(9.78±3.15) vs (8.95±2.32) mm; P=0.005]. SCH group also had significantly fewer participants with reduced menstrual volume [23 cases (12.6%, 23/182) vs 31 cases (17.5%, 31/177); P=0.038]. Although SCH group experienced less dysmenorrhea during the first postoperative menstrual period, this difference was not statistically significant [28.5% (51/179) vs 37.1% (65/175); P=0.083]. Outcomes were similar between SCH group and the control group regarding the proportion of participants who resumed menstruation within 6 weeks postoperatively, time to menstruation resumption, and duration of the first postoperative menstruation ( P=0.792, 0.485, and 0.254, respectively). No serious adverse events were observed during the study period, and no adverse events were attributed to SCH gel treatment. Conclusion:The application of SCH gel after artificial abortion is safe and might aid in the recovery of the endometrium.

Objective:To understand the status of HIV-2 infection and the epidemiological characteristics of HIV-2 infected individuals in Hunan province. Methods:The stock blood samples with HIV-2 indicative bands in the original records of 15 AIDS confirmation laboratories in Hunan province from 2003 to 2020 were collected. The samples were tested by Mikrogen GmbH (HIV 1+ 2) antibody comfirmatory kit (Germany). And meanwhile the epidemiological data of the first HIV test and the epidemiological follow-up records of the cases who could be contacted were collected. Results:A total of 378 samples with HIV-2 indicative bands were collected, involving 363 individuals. Serological test result showed that 326 cases (89.81%) were HIV-1 antibody positive, 18 cases (4.96%) were HIV-2 antibody positive, 12 cases (3.31%) were HIV antibody positive but could not be typed, 6 cases (1.65%) were HIV antibody uncertain and 1 case (0.28%) was negative for HIV-1/2 antibody. There were 15 cases from Xiangtan city and the other 3 cases from Changsha city among the 18 HIV-2 antibody positive individuals. The result of epidemiological investigation showed that there were 12 males (66.67%) and 6 females (33.33%), with a male-to-female ratio of 2∶1. The average age of the first detection was (56.94±12.52) years, in the males the age ranged from 33 to 76 years and in the females the age ranged from 44 to 66 years. The male age span was larger than that of the female. There were 10 married cases (55.56%) including one couple, 6 divorced or widowed cases (33.33%), 2 cases (11.11%) with unknown marital status. There were 13 cases from hospital monitoring (72.22%), 2 cases each from prison detention and blood screening in volunteer donors (22.22%), and 1 case from spouse screening (5.56%). These samples were tested for the first time in 2005, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2018, and 2020, with 1 case each, 6 cases in 2016, 2 cases in 2017, and 4 cases in 2019. By the end of 2020, 9 cases were alive and 9 cases were dead or missing. Three cases have accepted antiviral treatment. Of the 7 cases that could be followed up, all admitted heterosexual transmission, 6 cases denied any history of traveling abroad, and 1 case denied any history of foreign sexual intercourse.Conclusions:HIV-2 epidemic has lasted for a long time in Hunan province, local infection is not an occasional case, and there is a possibility of long-term clustering epidemic spread. This suggests that the country should strengthen the surveillance, detection, diagnosis and treatment of HIV-2 research and pay attention to the risk of HIV-2 transmission.

Objective:To explore the intervention effect of different modes of ankle pump exercise on femoral vein peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) catheter-related thrombosis in patients with lung cancer. Methods:Using the convenient sampling method, 96 cases of lung cancer patients with femoral vein PICC catheterization admitted to Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from January 2019 to October 2020 were set as the control group and 97 cases of lung cancer patients with femoral vein PICC cannula from October 2020 to October 2021 were set as the observation group. They adopted the comfort angle ankle pump exercise and the maximum angle ankle pump exercise mode, respectively. The differences in the incidence of catheter-related thrombosis, the incidence of unplanned extubation, fatigue score and catheter indwelling time were compared between the two groups. Results:The incidence of catheter-related thrombosis and unplanned extubation in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant ( P<0.05) . The fatigue score and catheter indwelling time of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant ( P<0.05) . Conclusions:The maximum angle ankle pump motion mode can reduce the incidence of catheter-related thrombosis and unplanned extubation of femoral vein PICC catheterization in patients with lung cancer and improve the catheter indwelling time, but it is easy to cause patient fatigue, so clinical promotion and use should consider the patients' tolerance.

Objective:To study the characteristics of the lens turbidity after long-term exposure to low intensity 635nm laser. Methods:Cluster sampling method was adopted to select 812 employees in a laser leveler workshop in a city of Guangdong Province from January 2014 to December 2018. They were divided into the control group, diffuse reflection (DR) group and direct vision (DV) group for retrospective observation and analysis of lens turbidity. The laser irradiation intensity of each group was investigated, the position and shape of lens opacity were analyzed, and the influencing factors were statistically analyzed with the repeated measurement data of dichotomy. Results:The laser irradiance and radiant exposure of DV group were between 0.72×10 -4 and 9.92×10 -4 mW/cm 2 and between 2.61×10 -2 and 1.53 J/cm 2, respectively. The subjects were mainly diagnosed with lens turbidity lesion, especially for the DV group. Most of lesions occurred in the pole and periphery of the anterior cortex. The lesions exhibited multipoint patterns with greyish white color. The turbidity rates in DV group (before work and work for 1, 2, 3 years) were 0%, 1.99% (8/402) , 4.98% (20/402) and 6.72% (27/402) , respectively, in the order of observation points. The statistical analysis of single factor effect showed that the turbidity rate was higher in DV group and higher in the second year in the DV group ( P<0.01) . Multi-factor analysis of the laser effect on the lens showed that the main effect between groups, between the observation point were statistically significant ( P<0.05) , but no statistical significance in the interaction between group×observation points ( P>0.05) . Conclusion:Lens turbidity lesion can be caused by long-term exposure to low intensity 635 nm laser, so the product safety classification should be strictly strengthened. It is necessary to strengthen the protection of laser photochemical damage in the production process.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of n-hexane subchronic exposure on the serum level of neuron specific enolase(NSE), neurofilament light chain protein(NF-L) and nerve growth factor(NGF) in rat, and to explore the feasibility of using NSE, NF-L and NGF as biomarkers of n-hexane neurotoxicity. METHODS: Specific pathogen free male SD rats were randomly divided into control group and low-, medium-and high-dose exposure groups, with 6 rats in each group. Rats in the low-, medium-and high-dose exposure groups were given n-hexane solution at doses of 168, 675 and 2 700 mg/kg body mass, respectively, while rats in the control group were gavaged with 0.9% sodium chloride solution, once a day, 5 days a week for 6 weeks. At week 0, 2, 4, and 6 of exposure, the body mass of the rats was weighed, the gait scores were performed, and the serum levels of NSE, NF-L, and NGF were detected.RESULTS: Body mass, gait score and serum levels of NSE and NF-L in rats were statistically significant in terms of the n-hexane exposure dose and exposure time(P<0.01). At the 6 th week of n-hexane exposure, the body mass of the three dose exposure groups was lower than that of the control group(P<0.05), and the gait score was higher than that of the control group(P<0.05). Moreover, the abnormal gait of the rats showed a dose-effect relationship with the increasing n-hexane poisoning dose. At week 2, 4 and 6, the serum levels of NSE and NF-L in these three dose exposure groups were higher than that in the control group(P<0.05). In addition, the serum level of NF-L in rats in the medium-and high-dose exposure groups increased with the n-hexane exposure time increasing and showed a time-effect relationship(P<0.05). The level of serum NGF in rats was statistically significant in the main effects of n-hexane dose and duration of exposure(P<0.05). The serum NGF level in the high-dose exposure group was lower than that in the control group, the low-dose and medium-dose exposure groups(P<0.05). NGF level in serum of rats at week 6 was lower than that at week 0, 2 and 4(P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Both NSE and NF-L in serum can be used as biomarkers for the early effect of n-hexane on peripheral nerve injury. The feasibility of using serum NGF as a biomarker for the early effect of n-hexane on peripheral nerve injury warrants further investigation.
