Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2026;67(11):1192-1199
ObjectiveTo investigate the risk factors for atherosclerosis (AS) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and its correlation with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes. MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted, enrolling 16,082 RA patients from 122 medical centers nationwide. Patient demographics, disease assessment data including disease activity (DAS-28), tender joint count (TJC), swollen joint count (SJC), patient's global assessment (PGA), evaluator's global assessment (EGA), and visual analogue scale (VAS), major clinical symptoms including insomnia, loss of appetite, irritability, and fatigue, and laboratory indicators including blood routine, inflammatory markers, liver and kidney function, metabolic indices, and coagulation markers were collected through questionnaire. Based on the four examinations in TCM, patients were classified into eight TCM syndromes, which were wind-damp obstruction, cold-damp obstruction, damp-heat obstruction, phlegm-stasis obstruction, blood stasis obstructing the collaterals, qi-blood deficiency, liver-kidney insufficiency, and qi-yin deficiency. Patients who experienced AS events were included in the event group (564 cases), while those without AS events were included in the non-event group (15,518 cases). Intergroup difference tests were used to screen potential risk factors, and binary logistic regression analysis was employed to assess the correlation between TCM syndromes and rheumatoid arthritis with atherosclerosis (RA-AS). ResultsCompared to the non-event group, patients in the event group had longer disease duration, higher body weight, and older age (P<0.05), and showed significantly higher DAS28, TJC, SJC, PGA, EGA, VAS, ESR, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and D-dimer levels, and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), with more severe symptoms of insomnia, irritability, and fatigue (P<0.05). Damp-heat obstruction syndrome was the most prevalent in both groups, with a higher proportion in the event group (393/564, 69.68%) than in the non-event group (4578/15,518, 29.50%) showing significant difference (P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that patients with damp-heat obstruction syndrome had a 5.326-fold higher risk of developing RA-AS compared to those without this syndrome (OR=5.326, 95%CI 4.517 to 7.089, P<0.001). ConclusionThe occurrence of RA-AS is associated with TCM syndromes, disease activity, inflammatory markers and lipid metabolic indices, and damp-heat obstruction syndrome is an independent risk factor for RA-AS.

To evaluate the clinical value of nebulized indocyanine green(ICG) combined with near-infrared fluorescence imaging for intraoperative detection of air leaks during pulmonary resection. This was a two-center randomized controlled trial enrolling patients undergoing thoracoscopic pulmonary resection. After enrollment, patients were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received nebulized ICG and fluorescence imaging in addition to the conventional water immersion test, while the control group underwent the water immersion test alone. Intraoperative air leak detection and postoperative air leak incidence were compared between the two groups. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the association between ICG nebulization intervention and postoperative air leaks after adjusting for confounding factors including age, sex, smoking history, history of respiratory disease, surgical procedure, and study center. A total of 181 patients were enrolled(90 in the experimental group, 91 in the control group). The experimental group showed significantly higher intraoperative air leak detection rate(37.8% Nebulized ICG combined with near-infrared fluorescence imaging significantly improves intraoperative detection of air leaks, reduces the incidence of postoperative air leaks, and shortens chest tube duration. This technique is convenient, safe, and holds important clinical value for application.

Skeletal muscle atrophy refers to a pathological condition characterized by muscle fiber atrophy as well as decreased muscle mass and muscle strength induced by various predisposing factors. It falls under the category of “flaccidity syndrome” in traditional Chinese medicine, and its pathogenesis is mainly associated with disturbed protein homeostasis, mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress injury. Active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine exerts synergistic regulatory effects via multiple pathways, thus possessing unique advantages in the clinical prevention and treatment of skeletal muscle atrophy. This paper reviews the mechanisms by which active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine alleviate skeletal muscle atrophy. Existing studies have demonstrated that such active ingredients can ameliorate skeletal muscle atrophy through multiple approaches: regulating protein metabolic balance (geniposide, matrine, schisandrin A, etc.) and oxidative stress (astragaloside Ⅳ, Gastrodia elata polysaccharide, Angelica sinensis polysaccharide, etc.), improving mitochondrial function (parthenolide, berberine, curcumin, etc.), facilitating myogenesis and myogenic differentiation (cucurbitacin Ⅱb, saikosaponin A, saikosaponin D, etc.), suppressing inflammatory response (ursolic acid, triptolide, emodin, etc.), ameliorating insulin resistance (akebiasaponin D, etc.). In the future, active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine are expected to achieve breakthroughs in clinical treatment for skeletal muscle atrophy, providing novel ideas and strategies for the prevention and treatment of degenerative disorders.

Objective: To analyze the demographic evolution of China over the forthcoming decade (2026-2035) and to systematically evaluate its potential implications for voluntary blood donation practices and the equilibrium of clinical blood supply and demand. Methods: Leveraging comprehensive blood collection and utilization data from 2021 to 2025 at the national, provincial (Shandong), and municipal (Zibo) levels, we identified and examined critical determinants influencing blood management systems. The DeepSeek-V3.2 large language model was deployed to project future population age structures, and to generate quantitative estimates for hospitalization volumes, clinical blood requirements, available blood supply, and donation frequencies for the target years 2030 and 2035, thereby furnishing an evidence base for strategic planning and priority-setting. Results: DeepSeek-derived projections indicate that the proportion of China's population aged 60 years and above will surpass 27% (370 million/1 380 million) by 2030 and exceed 30% (400 million/1 350 million) by 2035, signaling a marked acceleration in population aging. This demographic shift is projected to reduce the proportion of the national population eligible to donate blood from 59.2% (835 million out of 1.41 billion) to 52% (710 million out of 1.36 billion), while the demand for blood is expected to increase by 87.8% relative to 2024, rising from 26.927 million units to 50.56 million units. Sustaining blood supply-demand balance will necessitate progressive annual increases in donation rates. Under prevailing policy frameworks, the required blood donation rate among the eligible population in Shandong Province would need to rise by 122.57% by 2035 [from 20.07‰ (1.1641 million person-times/58 million people) to 44.67‰ (2.189 million person-times/49 million people)] to potentially satisfy projected clinical requirements. Conclusion: By integrating DeepSeek-V3.2, AI predictive models, and blood donation incentive measures, it is possible to monitor population demographics, forecast clinical blood demand, manage blood supplies, and ensure the long-term sustainability of clinical blood availability. It must be acknowledged, however, that the present analysis is constrained by a limited data foundation (comprising only five annual observation points); accordingly, the projections should be interpreted as directional trend indicators or methodological illustrations rather than definitive quantitative forecasts.

Patients with lung cancer experience a heavy symptom burden during the perioperative period, which seriously affects their recovery and quality of life. Traditional symptom management models rely mainly on scheduled ward rounds during hospitalization and outpatient follow-up after discharge. However, they have limitations such as delayed symptom recognition, lack of post-discharge monitoring, and non-quantitative symptom assessment, which often lead to delayed interventions and low patient satisfaction. In recent years, the symptom management model based on electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO) has been increasingly valued in clinical practice. Existing high-level evidence from both domestic and international studies indicates that, through proactive monitoring, real-time alerts, and remote interventions, this model enables dynamic and continuous symptom management and helps improve patient recovery and healthcare experience. As a supplement to routine medical care, the ePRO-based symptom management model aims to enhance the quality of care rather than replace existing medical processes. To promote the standardized application of this model in perioperative lung cancer care, this consensus integrates domestic and international evidence. After multiple rounds of voting by more than 50 experts, it formulates 12 consensus statements covering the three core components, symptom monitoring, alerting, and intervention, to provide scientific and practical recommendations for clinical practice.

BackgroundSevere mental disorders represent a major public health concern due to the high disability rates and substantial disease burden, which has garnered significant national attention and prompted their inclusion in public health project management systems. However, credible evidence regarding the current status of disease management and factors influencing disease stabilization among patients with severe mental disorders in Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, remains limited. ObjectiveTo investigate the current management status of patients with severe mental disorders in Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, and to analyze influencing factors of disease stabilization among patients under standardized care, so as to provide evidence-based insights for developing targeted management strategies to optimize clinical interventions for this patient population. MethodsIn March 2023, data were extracted from the Sichuan Mental Health Service Comprehensive Management Platform for patients with severe mental disorders in Luzhou City who received management between December 2017 and December 2022. Information on mental health service utilization and clinical status changes was collected. Trend analysis was conducted to evaluate temporal changes in key management indicators for severe mental disorders in Luzhou City. Logistic regression analysis was employed to identify factors influencing the disease stabilization or fluctuation of these patients. ResultsThis study enrolled a total of 20 232 patients. In Luzhou City, the stabilization rate and standardized management rate of severe mental disorders were 94.89% and 79.36% in 2017, respectively, which increased to 95.33% and 96.92% by 2022. The regular medication adherence rate rose from 34.42% in 2018 to 86.81% in 2022. In 2022, the regular medication adherence rate was 71.80% for schizophrenia, 55.26% for paranoid psychosis, and 51.43% for schizoaffective disorder. Multivariate analysis identified the following protective factors for disease stabilization: age of 18~39 years (OR=0.613, 95% CI: 0.409~0.918), age of 40~65 years (OR=0.615, 95% CI: 0.407~0.931), urban residence (OR=0.587, 95% CI: 0.478~0.720), and regular medication adherence (OR=0.826, 95% CI: 0.702~0.973). Risk factors for disease fluctuation included poor (OR=1.712, 95% CI: 1.436~2.040), non-inclusion in care-support programs (OR=1.928, 95% CI: 1.694~2.193), non-participation in community rehabilitation (OR=2.255, 95% CI: 1.930~2.634), and intermittent medication adherence (OR=3.893, 95% CI: 2.548~5.946). ConclusionThe stability rate, standardized management rate, and regular medication adherence rate of patients with severe mental disorders in Luzhou City have shown a year-by-year increase. Age, household registration status, economic condition, medication compliance, and community-based rehabilitation were identified as influencing factors for disease fluctuation in these patients. ObjectiveTo establish the multi-technique characteristic profiles of Alumen by X-ray diffraction(XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) and thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis(TG-DTA), and to explore the spectral characteristics for rapid identification of Alumen and its potential adulterant, Ammonium alum. MethodsA total of 27 batches of Alumen samples from 8 production regions were collected for preliminary identification based on visual characteristics. The PDF standard cards of XRD were used to differentiate Alumen from A. alum, and the XRD characteristic profiles of Alumen were established, and then the common peaks were screened. Based on hierarchical clustering analysis(HCA) and orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA), the characteristic information that could be used for identification of Alumen was selected with variable importance in the projection(VIP) value>1. FTIR characteristic profiles of Alumen were established, and key wavenumbers for identification were screened by HCA and OPLS-DA with VIP value>1. Meanwhile, the thermogravimetric differences between Alumen and A. alum were analyzed by TG-DTA, and the thermogravimetric traits that could be used for identification were screened. ResultsAlumen and A. alum could not be effectively distinguished by traits alone. However, by comparing the PDF standard cards of XRD, 15 batches of Alumen and 12 batches of A. alum could be distinguished. In the XRD profiles, 10 characteristic peaks were confirmed, corresponding to diffraction angles of 14.560°, 24.316°, 12.620°, 32.122°, 17.898°, 34.642°, 27.496°, 46.048°, 40.697° and 21.973°. In the FTIR profiles, 4 wavenumber ranges(399.193-403.050, 1 186.010-1 471.420, 1 801.190-2 620.790, 3 612.020-3 997.710 cm-1) and 12 characteristic wavenumbers(1 428.994, 1 430.922, 1 432.851, 1 434.779, 1 436.708, 1 438.636, 1 440.565, 1 442.493, 1 444.422, 1 446.350, 1 448.279, 1 450.207 cm-1) were identified. In the TG-DTA profiles, there were characteristic decomposition peaks of ammonium ion and mass reduction features near 555.34 ℃ for A. alum. These characteristics could serve as important criteria for distinguishing the authenticity of Alumen. ConclusionXRD, FTIR and TG-DTA can be used to rapidly detect Alumen and A. alum, and combined with the discriminant features selected through chemometrics, the rapid and accurate identification of Alumen and A. alum can be achieved. The research findings provide new approaches for the rapid identification of Alumen.

Background:
and Purpose Ruptured intracranial aneurysms (RIA) are associated with a mortality rate of up to 40% in the Chinese population, highlighting the critical need for targeted treatment interventions for at-risk individuals. Although the impact of aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) gene mutations on susceptibility to intracranial aneurysms (IA) is well documented, the potential connection between ALDH2 rs671 single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and RIA remains unexplored. Given the increased prevalence of ALDH2 gene mutations among Chinese Han individuals, it is clinically relevant to investigate the link between ALDH2 rs671 SNP and IA rupture.
Methods:
A prospective study was conducted on 546 patients diagnosed with IA to investigate the association between ALDH2 rs671 SNP and the risk of IA rupture.
Results:
The ALDH2 rs671 SNP (ALDH2*2) was significantly more prevalent in patients with unruptured IA (UIA) than in those with RIA (32.56% vs. 18.58%, P=0.004). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that people with the ALDH2 mutation (ALDH2*1/*2 and ALDH2*2/*2 gene type) had a significantly reduced odds ratio (OR=0.49; 95% confidence level [CI] 0.27–0.88; P=0.018) for RIAs. Age-specific subgroup analysis indicated that the ALDH2 mutation provided a stronger protective effect in individuals aged 60 years and above with IA compared to those under 60 years old (OR=0.38 vs. OR=0.52, both P<0.05).
Conclusion
The incidence of RIA was significantly higher in individuals with a normal ALDH2 gene (ALDH2*1/*1) than in those with an ALDH2 rs671 SNP (ALDH2*1/*2 or ALDH2*2/*2). ALDH2 rs671 SNP may serve as a protective factor against RIA in the Chinese Han population.
