Objective:
To investigate the association between parenting style and sleep problems among school aged children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
Methods:
A total of 98 children with ASD aged 6-10 years old and 98 age and gender matched typically developing (TD) children from mainstream schools were recruited. Parenting style and sleep problems were measured via Parent Behavior Inventory (PBI) and Children s Sleep Habits Questionnaire(CSHQ), respectively. The symptom severity and intelligence level were also evaluated. Generalized linear model was used to analyze the relationship between parenting style and sleep problems.
Results:
There was no statistically significant difference in the parenting style of the two groups of children( P > 0.05 ); weekend sleep time of children with ASD was significantly shorter than that of the TD group [(9.1±0.7)(9.5±0.8)h, P < 0.01 ], and the score of sleep onset delay was significantly higher than that of the TD group[(1.8±0.7)(1.5±0.7), P <0.01]. However, there was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of total sleep problems and various problems between the two groups of children( P >0.05). The parental support/engagement of children with ASD was negatively associated with the total score of sleep problems( β=-2.68, 95%CI =-4.88--0.47), bedtime resistance ( β=-1.65, 95%CI =-2.54--0.77) and sleep anxiety( β=-1.01, 95%CI =-1.70--0.32). The parental hostility/coercion was positively correlated with score of daytime sleepiness( β=1.41, 95%CI =0.53-2.29)( P <0.05).
Conclusion
Parenting style of support/engagement is associated with lower sleep problems in children with ASD, while hostile/coercion is associated with higher sleep problems. It should be improve parental style to reduce the sleep problems in children with ASD.

Objective:To evaluate the feasibility of using cortical bone trajectory (CBT) screws in the osteoporotic thoracolumbar fixation by comparing the bone CT values at the bone-screw interface between traditional trajectory (TT) screws and CBT screws in patients with different bone densities. Methods:The high-resolution CT imaging data of thoracolumbar segments following thoracic or lumbar spine fractures from April 2020 to October 2022 were collected at The Second Hospital Affiliated to Wenzhou Medical University for retrospective analysis. They were divided into 3 groups: a normal bone mass group, an osteopenia group and an osteoporosis group. From each group 30 cases were chosen (90 cases in total, 36 males and 54 females). All the data were imported into Mimics 18.0 for three-dimensional bone reconstruction in which placement of TT and CBT screws was simulated on the vertebrae from T10 to L2 (non-fractured vertebrae). Regions of interest (ROI) where each simulated screw intersected the bone were segmented to measure their CT bone values. For each vertebra in each group, the relative difference percentage in average CT value of ROI between TT and CBT screws was calculated. The CT values of ROI were compared in the same group between TT and CBT screws from T10 to L2; the CT values of ROI were compared in the same screws among the 3 groups from T10 to L2; the CT values of ROI were compared between the CBT screws in the osteopenia and osteoporosis groups and the TT screws in the normal bone mass group; the relative difference percentages in average CT value of ROI between CBT and TT screws were compared between the 3 groups from T10 to L2.Results:The average CT value of ROI for CBT screws was significantly higher than that for TT screws from T10 to L2 in every group ( P< 0.001); as for the CT values of ROI for CBT and TT screws from T10 to L2, the osteoporosis group

Chinese Journal of Pediatrics 2021;59(6):484-488
Objective:To explore the visual fixation patterns during facial emotion recognition and the association between fixation duration percentage (FDP) of eye region with social impairment among high-functioning autism spectrum disorders (HFASD).Methods:Children were recruited from the Child and Adolescent Behavior Research Center of Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, between July and December 2019 for case control study. A total of 42 children with HFASD and 23 age-and gender-matched typical development (TD) children were enrolled. Based on their performance during the facial emotion recognition task, HFASD children were further divided into ASD-1 group (correctly recognized both happy and fear emotions) and ASD-2 group (recognized happy emotions only). During the free viewing task, an infrared eye tracker was used to record the gazing data of children in the three groups. The social responsiveness scales (SRS) was utilized to evaluate HFASD children′s social impairment, with the cutoff score of 75 to differentiate those from mild and severe social impairment. The differences of FDP among the three groups were analyzed by the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) model. Mixed linear regression model was conducted to evaluate the associations between social impairment and FDP of eye region among HFASD children. Results:The final sample consists of 25 ASD-1 (20 males, aged (7.9±1.0) years), 17 ASD-2(14 males, aged (7.2±1.2) years), and 23 TD (12 males, aged (7.7±1.3) years) children. There were no significant differences in age and gender among three groups ( F=2.05, χ2 =10.08, P=0.14 and 0.07, respectively). For the happy emotion, there are significant differences in eye FDP among the three groups (TD: 0.37±0.20, ASD-1: 0.35±0.20, ASD-2: 0.47±0.24, F=3.97, P=0.02). Mixed linear regression model revealed that, adjusting for emotion, gender, age and intelligence quotient, ASD children′s eye FDP negatively associates with social impairment ( OR=0.15, 95% CI: 0.06-0.35, P<0.01). Conclusions:Longer FDP is associated with milder social impairment among HFASD children. HFASD children with facial emotion recognition difficulties require longer fixation to recognize happy emotions.
