Amber and subfossil resins are subjects of interdisciplinary research across multiple fields. However, due to their diverse origins and complex compositions, different disciplines vary in their definitions and functional interpretations. In traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), amber has been utilized as a medicinal material since ancient time, with extensive historical documentation. However, its classification, provenance, and nomenclature remain ambiguous, and authentic medicinal amber artifacts are exceedingly rare. This study employed Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) to characterize amber and subfossil resins from various geological sources and commercially "medicinal amber". Additionally, historical literature and market surveys were analyzed to explore their provenance, composition, and functional attributes. The results indicate that amber and subfossil resins from different sources and with different compositions exhibit distinct fingerprint characteristics in the FTIR spectral range of 1 800-700 cm~(-1). "Medicinal amber" available in the market primarily consists of subfossil or modern resins, significantly differing in composition and structure from geological amber. This study highlights the importance of interdisciplinary research on amber identification and resource management. It is essential to establish a systematic database of amber and subfossil resin characteristics and integrate modern analytical techniques to enhance research on their composition, pharmacological mechanisms, and potential therapeutic effects, thereby promoting the standardized utilization of amber resources and advancing the modernization of TCM.

In this study, serum metabolomics techniques and molecular biology methods were used to investigate the intervention effect of kaji-ichigoside F1 on chronic unpredictable mild stress(CUMS) depression mouse model and its mechanism. The CUMS depression mouse model was constructed, and the mice were divided into blank group, model group, escitalopram(ESC, 10 mg·kg~(-1)) group, and low-dose, medium-dose, and high-dose kaji-ichigoside F1 groups(1, 2, and 4 mg·kg~(-1)). CUMS modeling was performed on all mice except the blank group, and the cycle was four weeks. At the end of modelling, ESC and kaji-ichigoside F1 were administered by gavage once a day for 28 days. After the end of the administration, behavioral testing(sucrose preference test, open field test, forced swimming test, and tail suspension test) was conducted to evaluate the improvement of depression symptoms of different doses of kaji-ichigoside F1 on CUMS depression mouse model. The morphology of neurons and the number of Nissl bodies in the hippocampus were observed by Nissl staining. Metabolomics technique was used to analyze the changes in serum differential metabolites in mice. Protein expression levels of P2X7 purinergic receptor(P2X7R), adenosine A1 receptor(A1R), and adenosine receptor A2A(A2AR) in mouse hippocampus were detected by Western blot. The results showed that compared with that in the blank group, the body weight of mice in the model group was significantly decreased, and the sucrose preference rate was significantly decreased. The immobility time was significantly increased in the forced swimming and tail suspension tests, and the total moving distance was significantly decreased in the open field test. The number of Nissl bodies was significantly decreased, and the depression-like behavior and the number of Nissl bodies in the hippocampus of mice were significantly improved after administration of kaji-ichigoside F1. In the metabonomics analysis, the purine metabolism of serum after kaji-ichigoside F1 administration was involved in the metabolic passage of depression, and Western blot analysis verified the expression of P2X7R, A1R, and A2AR proteins in purine metabolic pathways. The results show that kaji-ichigoside F1 significantly decreases the expression of P2X7R and A2AR proteins in the hippocampus of CUMS model mice and increases the expression level of A1R proteins. It is suggested that kaji-ichigoside F1 may play an antidepressant role by regulating the expression of P2X7R, A1R, and A2AR proteins in the purine metabolism pathway.

Malignant tumors (commonly referred to as cancer) represent a major global public health challenge and contribute significantly to the worldwide disease burden. Early screening plays a critical role in improving detection rates, enabling timely intervention, and enhancing patient survival rates. However, current cancer screening guidelines primarily focus on site-specific screening, which may not fully address the need for comprehensive early detection. A scientifically rational, multi-cancer screening approach offers several advantages: it optimizes the use of biological samples, reduces time costs for participants, enhances the efficiency and comprehensiveness of screening, and minimizes overall expenses. Such an approach also facilitates the rational allocation of healthcare resources, ultimately helping to reduce the societal burden of cancer. To address this need, the Cancer Epidemiology Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association has developed the Expert Consensus on Combined Screening for Common Cancers in China. This consensus integrates multidisciplinary expertise and synthesizes the latest domestic and international researches on cancer screening, early detection, and treatment for prevalent malignancies. Drawing upon China's unique demographic and healthcare context, as well as practical screening experiences, the consensus provides evidence-based recommendations on target populations, screening technologies, and procedural workflows for multi-cancer screening. These guidelines align with the principles and methodologies established by the World Health Organization (WHO), aiming to enhance the effectiveness of combined cancer screening in China, improve early detection rates, and provide a scientific foundation for national cancer prevention and control strategies.

Progress in Modern Biomedicine 2025;25(9):1549-1557,1566
Objective:To investigate the sex difference and symptom correlation of pituitary-thyroid axis and pituitary-adrenal axis function in patients with remitted schizophrenia. Methods:Using cross-sectional study method,243 patients with remitted schizophrenia at Changning District Mental Health Center of Shanghai from January 2019 to September 2021(schizophrenia group)were selected, and healthy individuals who underwent physical examinations during the same period(healthy control group)were also selected. The demographic data and HPT axis,HPA axis neuroendocrine indicators[serum thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH),free triiodothyronine(FT3),free thyroid hormone(FT4),triiodothyronine(TT3),thyroid hormone(TT4),adrenocorticotropic hormone(ACTH),and cortisol(COR)]between healthy control group and schizophrenia group were compared.Gender differences in HPT axis and HPA axis in schizophrenia patients were compared. The correlation between neuroendocrine indicators and gender, disease duration, positive and negative symptom scale(PANSS)scores in patients with schizophrenia were analyzed by linear regression method.Using stratified multiple linear regression, laboratory measured variables and age were included as predictive factors in the model to construct a regression prediction model for hormone levels between schizophrenia and healthy control group,as well as subgroups of schizophrenia gender.Generate receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves based on the probability values of predictive factors, and determine the predictive value of the logistic regression model using the area under the curve(AUC).Results:TT3,TSH,TT4 in schizophrenia group were lower than those in the healthy control group(P<0.05),while ACTH and COR were higher than those in the healthy control group(P<0.05).There was a statistically significant difference in the negative symptom scores,TSH,TT3,FT3,ACTH,and COR levels between the female schizophrenia group and male schizophrenia group(P<0.05).PANSS,total score of general psychopathology score were positively correlated with COR level, negative symptom score was negatively correlated with FT3 levels(all P<0.05),but there was no linear relationship among the three(absolute value of r<0.3).ROC curve results showed that, the schizophrenia hormone level model had good discrimination accuracy, with AUC=0.872(95%confidence interval 0.841-0.904),the optimal threshold(Yoden index)=0.651.ROC curve shows that the male and female subgroups of schizophrenia models also have good discrimination accuracy, with AUC=0.794(95%confidence interval 0.737-0.850)and the optimal cutoff value(Yoden index)=0.495.Conclusion:The changes of active T4 in schizophrenia patients may be one of the possible causes of the chronic pathological changes of schizophrenia. The level of high-functioning T3 hormone is significantly lower in female patients than that in male patients. The hierarchical regression model provides good identification accuracy for remitted schizophrenia and gender subgroups.

Objective:This study aims to initially establish a scoring system for comprehensively reflecting the severity of intracranial atherosclerotic lesions and to explore the correlation between this score and atherosclerotic risk factors as well as stroke events. Methods:This study retrospectively analyzed patients who underwent head and neck computer tomography angiography(CTA)examinations and had head MRI examinations within one month before or after the CTA examination from January 2021 to August 2024 in Beijing Hospital. An intracranial atherosclerosis disease score(ICADS)system was constructed based on the degree and number of vascular stenosis. The relationship between ICADS and atherosclerotic risk factors was explored by grouping patients according to the quartile of ICADS.Patients were divided into acute stroke group and non-acute stroke group to compare differences in ICADS and cerebrovascular disease risk factors between the two groups, and to investigate the correlation between stroke events and ICADS.Results:There were statistically significant differences in the proportions of patients with hypertension and diabetes among different ICADS groups.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that hypertension( B=1.17, 95% CI: 0.20-2.14, P<0.05)and diabetes( B=2.75, 95% CI: 1.85-3.64, P<0.001)were risk factors for higher ICADS.The ICADS was higher in the acute stroke group than in the non-acute stroke group(9 vs.6, P<0.001), and a higher ICADS was identified as a risk factor for stroke( OR=1.10, 95% CI: 1.07-1.14, P<0.001). Conclusions:ICADS can comprehensively reflect the severity of intracranial atherosclerotic lesions and is correlated with stroke events, making it useful for clinical screening of high-risk patients for stroke.
