Background:
Primary Merkel cell carcinoma of the salivary gland is currently not listed in the World Health Organization classification. However, cases of Merkel cell type neuroendocrine carcinomas of the salivary gland with perinuclear cytokeratin 20 positivity have been intermittently reported. We here investigated the clinicopathologic features of additional cases.
Methods:
Data of four cases of Merkel cell type small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the salivary gland were retrieved. To confirm the tumors’ primary nature, clinical records and pathologic materials were reviewed. Optimal immunohistochemical staining was performed to support the diagnosis.
Results:
All tumors were located in the parotid gland. Possibilities of metastasis were excluded in all cases through a meticulous clinicopathological review. Tumor histology was consistent with the diagnosis of small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma. Tumors’ immunohistochemical phenotypes were consistent with Merkel cell carcinoma, including Merkel cell polyomavirus large T antigen positivity in two of the four cases.
Conclusions
Merkel cell carcinomas can originate in salivary glands and are partly associated with Merkel cell polyomavirus infection as in cutaneous Merkel cell carcinomas.

With the increasing emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in organizations and institutions, academic societies in gastroenterology and hepatology are beginning to take actionable steps toward achieving DEI. The successful implementation of DEI initiatives leads to excellence in the field, improved patient outcomes, particularly in areas where health disparities are prevalent, and advances in the gastrointestinal discipline. Such implementation also results in a workforce that better reflects the growing diversity of the population. This review defines DEI and introduces the DEI policies and strategies adopted by the academic societies of gastroenterology in other countries. This paper proposes strategies to integrate DEI better into the Korean Society of Gastroenterology, emphasizing the importance of embedding DEI into the culture and strategic framework. The key strategies include establishing a DEI committee, setting clear targets, and conducting formal assessments to measure DEI progress. This study focused on enhancing workforce diversity, particularly among women and young doctors, and advocates for the need to support their academic development through male allyship and the promotion of equitable and inclusive academic cultures.

9.The Influences of Teamwork and Grit on Job Adaptation and Intention to Remain among Advanced Beginner Nurses

Purpose:
This study aimed to explore the influence of teamwork and grit on job adaptation and intention to remain among advanced beginner nurses.
Methods:
A cross-sectional descriptive research design employing a survey method was used. The study involved 203 advanced beginner nurses with 13~36 months of experience working at a tertiary hospital. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and hierarchical regression analysis.
Results:
Job adaptation positively correlated with teamwork (r=.58, p<.001) and grit (r=.65, p<.001). Intention to remain was also positively correlated with teamwork (r=.32, p<.001) and grit (r=.59, p<.001). A hierarchical multiple regression model including control variables, teamwork, and grit accounted for 64% of the factors influencing job adaptation. Another hierarchical multiple regression model, incorporating control variables, teamwork, and grit, explained 44% of the factors influencing the intention to remain. Among the related factors, grit emerged as the most influential in regarding job adaption and intention to remain.
Conclusion
These findings underscore the importance of establishing a support system to bolster grit, enhancing adaptation to the job and fostering intention to remain among advanced beginner nurses.
