3.Serum Cocaine- and Amphetamine-Regulated Transcript Levels and Cooperativeness in Adolescents With Internet Gaming Disorder

Objective:
Internet gaming disorder (IGD) is a growing problem, particularly among adolescents. Although cocaine- and amphetamine- regulated transcript (CART) has been explored as a potential biomarker for addictive disorders, its relationship with IGD remains poorly understood. This study investigated the differences in serum CART levels between adolescents with IGD and healthy controls (HCs) in order to find potential biomarkers as a therapeutic target in IGD. Additionally, we investigated correlations of serum CART levels with personality traits within the IGD group.
Methods:
A total of 114 adolescents participated in this study (43 in the IGD group and 71 in the HC group). Blood samples (10 mL) were collected and serum CART concentrations were determined using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Participants also completed the Junior Temperament and Character Inventory.
Results:
Serum CART levels in the IGD group were significantly lower than those in the HC group (p<0.05). IGD participants had higher novelty-seeking and harm-avoidance traits, accompanied by reduced persistence, self-directedness, and cooperativeness. Notably, a significant correlation emerged between serum CART levels and cooperativeness within the IGD group. Lower cooperativeness trait scores could indicate reduced social interaction.
Conclusion
The present findings suggest serum CART levels might serve as a neurobiological marker for cooperativeness function in adolescents with IGD.

Male infertility (MI) and male sexual dysfunction (MSD) can often coexist together due to various interplay factors such as psychosexual, sociocultural and relationship dynamics. The presence of each form of MSD can adversely impact male reproduction and treatment strategies will need to be individualized based on patients’ factors, local expertise, and geographical socioeconomic status. The Asia Pacific Society of Sexual Medicine (APSSM) and the Asian Society of Men’s Health and Aging (ASMHA) aim to provide a consensus statement and practical set of clinical recommendations based on current evidence to guide clinicians in the management of MI and MSD within the Asia-Pacific (AP) region. A comprehensive, narrative review of the literature was performed to identify the various forms of MSD and their association with MI. MEDLINE and EMBASE databases were searched for the following English language articles under the following terms: “low libido”, “erectile dysfunction”, “ejaculatory dysfunction”, “premature ejaculation”, “retrograde ejaculation”, “delayed ejaculation”, “anejaculation”, and “orgasmic dysfunction” between January 2001 to June 2022 with emphasis on published guidelines endorsed by various organizations. This APSSM consensus committee panel evaluated and provided evidence-based recommendations on MI and clinically relevant MSD areas using a modified Delphi method by the panel and specific emphasis on locoregional socioeconomic-cultural issues relevant to the AP region. While variations exist in treatment strategies for managing MI and MSD due to geographical expertise, locoregional resources, and sociocultural factors, the panel agreed that comprehensive fertility evaluation with a multidisciplinary management approach to each MSD domain is recommended. It is important to address individual MI issues with an emphasis on improving spermatogenesis and facilitating reproductive avenues while at the same time, managing various MSD conditions with evidence-based treatments. All therapeutic options should be discussed and implemented based on the patient’s individual needs, beliefs and preferences while incorporating locoregional expertise and available resources.

Background:
s/Aims: Artificial intelligence (AI) technology has been used to assess surgery quality, educate, and evaluate surgical performance using video recordings in the minimally invasive surgery era. Much attention has been paid to automating surgical workflow analysis from surgical videos for an effective evaluation to achieve the assessment and evaluation. This study aimed to design a deep learning model to automatically identify surgical phases using laparoscopic cholecystectomy videos and automatically assess the accuracy of recognizing surgical phases.
Methods:
One hundred and twenty cholecystectomy videos from a public dataset (Cholec80) and 40 laparoscopic cholecystectomy videos recorded between July 2022 and December 2022 at a single institution were collected. These datasets were split into training and testing datasets for the AI model at a 2:1 ratio. Test scenarios were constructed according to structural characteristics of the trained model. No pre- or post-processing of input data or inference output was performed to accurately analyze the effect of the label on model training.
Results:
A total of 98,234 frames were extracted from 40 cases as test data. The overall accuracy of the model was 91.2%. The most accurate phase was Calot’s triangle dissection (F1 score: 0.9421), whereas the least accurate phase was clipping and cutting (F1 score:0.7761).
Conclusions
Our AI model identified phases of laparoscopic cholecystectomy with a high accuracy.
6.Medico-Artistic Analysis of Red Blood Cells in Gustav Klimt’s ‘The Kiss’

Background:
This study investigates the hypothesis that the red, doughnut-shaped discs in Gustav Klimt’s iconic painting ‘The Kiss’ represent red blood cells (RBCs). The purpose is to explore the artistic and anatomical significance of these elements, examining how Klimt may have integrated contemporary scientific discoveries into his work to convey deeper symbolic meanings.
Methods:
This interdisciplinary study employed a combination of medical and art history approaches, including biographical analysis, literature review and a questionnaire survey to assess viewer’s perceptions of the red discs in ‘The Kiss.’ The survey compared responses to the original painting with those to an experimentally altered version, where the red discs were removed, with the objective of determining the significance of these red discs in the artwork. The survey was conducted among 300 visitors at the Ulsan International Art Fair.Among the visitors, 69.3% of the participants were female, and the most common age group was 30–49 years old.
Results:
Historical research and literature analysis revealed that the red disc-shaped patterns on the woman’s dress in Klimt’s painting closely resemble RBCs as depicted in early 20thcentury scientific literature and encyclopedias. This suggests that Klimt, likely influenced by his interactions with medical scientists, intentionally incorporated contemporary scientific imagery into his artwork. The survey results indicated that 86.7% of participants recognized the painting as ‘The Kiss,’ demonstrating high familiarity with the piece. Comparisons between the original and altered versions of the painting revealed that viewers perceived notable differences in feeling, color perception, mood, and lighting.
Conclusion
This study demonstrates that Klimt intentionally incorporated RBC-like motifs into his paintings, using them not only to convey anatomical symbolism and emotional depth but also as dynamic elements within a mosaic pattern. These red elements energize not only the female figure in ‘The Kiss’ but the entire composition. Klimt’s work reveals his skill in merging scientific concepts with visual and emotional expression, showcasing an innovative approach to embedding complex medical and emotional meanings through the use of symbolic imagery.
