Objective To investigate the status of population dynamics and distribution changes of Aedes aegypti in Guangdong Province.Methods Continuous monitoring was conducted from May 2018 to July 2024 in Wushi Town and Qishui Town,Leizhou City,Zhanjiang City,Guangdong Province.Additionally,a survey of the distribution of Ae.aegypti along the Leizhou Peninsula coast was carried out.Results The density of Ae.aegypti in Zhanjiang showed a gradual decline from 2018 to 2024.The last detection of adult Ae.aegypti in Wushi Town was in September 2021,and the last larva was found in October 2023.No Ae.aegypti was detected in Qishui Town during surveys from 2021 to 2024.A survey of 18 coastal villages in the Leizhou Peninsula revealed no detections of Ae.aegypti.Conclusions This study provides a basis for understanding the distribution and population density fluctuations of Ae.aegypti,assessing its invasion risk,and scientifically conducting relevant prevention and control efforts.

BACKGROUND: A growing body of research is exploring the role of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory dietary supplements in the treatment of osteoarthritis, highlighting an increasing emphasis on non-pharmacological interventions. Although more patients are turning to supplements to manage osteoarthritis, their actual effectiveness remains uncertain. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the available evidence concerning the efficacy of various dietary supplements in osteoarthritis treatment. SEARCH STRATEGY: We searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and Web of Science for studies on the use of various dietary supplements in the treatment of osteoarthritis from the creation of each database until Jan 20, 2025. INCLUSION CRITERIA: (1) Research object: osteoarthritis. (2) Intervention measures: patients in the treatment group received dietary supplements, while the control group received placebos. (3) Research type: randomized controlled trials (RCTs). DATA EXTRACTION AND ANALYSIS: Two researchers independently examined the literature and retrieved data based on predefined criteria. The information gathered included the first author, year of publication, sample size, participant demographics, length of the follow-up period, intervention and control measures, and inclusion indications. RCTs comparing dietary supplements to placebo with the pain and function subscales of the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) among patients with osteoarthritis were included. The optimal dietary supplement was identified based on the total ranking by summing the surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) of these two scores. Furthermore, the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) was used to confirm the quality of the evidence. RESULTS: Overall, 23 studies covering 21 dietary supplements and involving 2455 participants met the inclusion criteria. In the WOMAC pain score, the SUCRA of passion fruit peel extract was 91% (mean difference [MD]: -9.2; 95% confidence interval [CI]: [-16.0, -2.3]), followed by methylsulfonylmethane (89%), undenatured type II collagen (87%), collagen (84%), and Lanconone (82%). The SUCRA (99%) of passion fruit peel extract (MD: -41.0; 95% CI: [-66.0, -16.0]) ranked first in terms of the WOMAC function score, followed by Lanconone (95%), collagen (86%), ParActin (84%), and Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota (83%). The top three total rankings are passion fruit peel extract (95.0%), Lanconone (88.5%), and collagen (85.0%). However, the GRADE revealed low evidence quality. CONCLUSION Passion fruit peel extract was the best supplement for improving WOMAC pain and function scores in patients with osteoarthritis, followed by Lanconone and collagen. However, further large-scale, well designed RCTs are required to substantiate these promising findings. OBJECTIVE: To assess the effectiveness of bone acupuncture in improving pain and function in degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (DLSS) and compare it with Jiaji acupuncture. METHODS: From January to December 2023, 80 DLSS patients were treated with acupuncture and divided into bone acupuncture and Jiaji acupuncture groups. Among them, 40 patients in the bone acupuncture group included 15 males and 25 females, with a mean age of (60.60±6.98) years old;anthor 40 patients in the Jiaji acupuncture group included 16 males and 24 females, with a mean age of (61.48±9.55) years old. The Roland Morris disability questionnaire(RMDQ), walking distance, visual analogue scale(VAS), and the MOS item short from health survey(SF-36) of two groups at baseline, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 12 weeks post-treatment were compared. RESULTS: Eighty patients were followed up for 3 to 5 months with an average of (3.62±0.59) months. There was no significant differences in general data and the scores before treatment between two groups(P>0.05). The RMDQ scores in both groups decreased significantly at 2, 4 and 12 weeks after treatment compared with before treatment(P<0.05), at each time point after treatment, the decrease was more significant in the bone acupuncture group than in the Jiaji acupuncture group(P<0.05). The VAS of waist and leg in both groups was significantly lower at 2, 4 and 12 weeks after treatment that before treatment(P<0.05). At all time points after treatment, the waist VAS in the bone acupuncture group was reduced more significant than in the Jiaji acupuncture group(P<0.05);there was no significant difference in leg VAS at 2 and 12 weeks after treatment between two groups(P>0.05), the improvement was more significant in the bone acupuncture group in the 4 weeks after treatment than in the Jiaji acupuncture group. The SF-36 scores in both groups were significantly higher at 2, 4, and 12 weeks after treatment than before treatment(P<0.05);the SF-36 score raised more significant in the bone acupuncture group than in the Jiaji acupunture group(P<0.05). No significant difference in the walking distance between two groups at 2 weeks after treatment(P>0.05);the walking distance in the bone acupuncture group was significantly higher than that in the Jiaji acupuncture group at 4 and 12 weeks after treatment(P<0.05). CONCLUSION Bone-penetrating acupuncture moderately improves functional impairment, pain, and quality of life in patients with DLSS, showing better efficacy than Jiaji acupuncture.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of Qingda Granule (QDG) in ameliorating hypertension-induced cardiac damage and investigate the underlying mechanisms involved. METHODS: Twenty spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) were used to develope a hypertension-induced cardiac damage model. Another 10 Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rats were used as normotension group. Rats were administrated intragastrically QDG [0.9 g/(kg•d)] or an equivalent volume of pure water for 8 weeks. Blood pressure, histopathological changes, cardiac function, levels of oxidative stress and inflammatory response markers were measured. Furthermore, to gain insights into the potential mechanisms underlying the protective effects of QDG against hypertension-induced cardiac injury, a network pharmacology study was conducted. Predicted results were validated by Western blot, radioimmunoassay immunohistochemistry and quantitative polymerase chain reaction, respectively. RESULTS: The administration of QDG resulted in a significant decrease in blood pressure levels in SHRs (P<0.01). Histological examinations, including hematoxylin-eosin staining and Masson trichrome staining revealed that QDG effectively attenuated hypertension-induced cardiac damage. Furthermore, echocardiography demonstrated that QDG improved hypertension-associated cardiac dysfunction. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and colorimetric method indicated that QDG significantly reduced oxidative stress and inflammatory response levels in both myocardial tissue and serum (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS Both network pharmacology and experimental investigations confirmed that QDG exerted its beneficial effects in decreasing hypertension-induced cardiac damage by regulating the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE)/angiotensin II (Ang II)/Ang II receptor type 1 axis and ACE/Ang II/Ang II receptor type 2 axis.

Aim To disclose the subcellular localiza-tion,expression pattern,cellular physiological function and possible molecular mechanism of C12ORF56,a novel gene located at q14.2 of chromosome 12,in the pathogenesis of lung cancer.Methods ONCOMINE database was applied to investigate the mRNA level dif-fering of C12ORF56 between normal and lung cancer tissues.Analysis based on LinkedOmics,Metascape,String and GSEA database or tools provided indication of potential cellular physiological functions of C12ORF56 in the developing of lung cancer.C12ORF56 was knocked down via siRNA and the pro-liferation of NCI-H1073 cells were observed by EdU and CCK-8 assay.RT-qPCR was used to detect the ex-pression level of C12ORF56 of lung cancer cells on dif-ferent cycle phases.The core sequence regions of pro-moter affecting the transcription of C12ORF56 gene were analyzed by Jaspar online-tools and verified by dual-luciferase assay.Results C12ORF56 was highly expressed in lung cancer cells,especially in squamous cell lung cancer.C12ORF56 correlated with cell cy-cle,cancer immune,DNA replication.Knockdown of C12ORF56 reduced NCI-H1703 cell proliferation.Conclusion The up-regulation of C12ORF56 is in-volved in the development of lung cancer by enhancing lung cancer cell proliferation.

Aim To investigate the protective effects of curcumin(CUR)on crystal-induced renal injury and its underlying mechanism in the mouse model of neph-rolithiasis.Methods The mouse model of stone for-mation was established via successive intraperitoneal injection of glyoxylate.Proximal tubular epithelial cell line HK-2 treated with calcium oxalate monohydrate(COM)was used as an in vitro model.The protective role of CUR on nephrolithiasis was tested by determina-tion of tubular injury,crystal deposition and adhesion,levels of inflammatory cytokines.In vitro,the effects of CUR on the cell viability and inflammatory factors of HK-2 cells were measured.The proteins in the Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4)/nuclear factor κB(NF-κB)and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(NRF2)/hemeoxygenase-1(HO-1)signaling path-ways were measured by Western blot for confirming the relationship between CUR and these pathways.Final-ly,NRF2 inhibitor ML385 and TLR4 activator CCL-34 were respectively used on COM-induced HK-2 cells ex-posed to CUR for the conduction of gain-of-function and loss-of-function assays.Results CUR improves the damage in the mouse model of kidney stone forma-tion,inhibits inflammation and antioxidative effects;promotes the viability of HK-2 cells induced by COM,and inhibits the expression of inflammatory factors.CUR suppresses the expression of proteins in the TLR4/NF-κB pathway,promotes the transfer of NRF2 from the cytoplasm to the nucleus,and enhances the ex-pression of HO-1.ML385 and CCL-34 respectively counteract the anti-inflammatory effects of CUR on COM-induced HK-2 cells.Conclusions Taken togeth-er,our study demonstrates the protective effect of CUR on the deposition of kidney stone and consequent tubu-lar injury.CUR through regulation of the TLR4/NF-κB and NRF2/HO-1 pathways improves renal injury.

Objective To evaluate the in vitro effect of combinations of 5 β-lactam antibiotics with different β-lac-tamase inhibitors on the activity of multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis(MDR-TB),and identify the most effective combination of β-lactam antibiotics and β-lactamase inhibitors against MDR-TB.Methods MDR-TB strains collected in Henan Province Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Project in 2021 were selected.The mini-mum inhibitory concentrations(MIC)of 5 β-lactam antibiotics or combinations with different β-lactamase inhibitors on clinically isolated MDR-TB strains were measured by MIC detection method,and the blaC mutation of the strains was analyzed by polymerase chain reaction(PCR)and DNA sequencing.Results A total of 105 strains of MDR-TB were included in the analysis.MIC detection results showed that doripenem had the highest antibacterial activity against MDR-TB,with a MIC50 of 16 μg/mL.MIC values of most β-lactam antibiotics decreased significantly after combined with β-lactamase inhibitors.A total of 13.33％(n=14)strains had mutations in blaC gene,mainly 3 nu-cleotide substitution mutations,namely AGT333AGG,AAC638ACC and ATC786ATT.BlaC proteins Ser111 Arg and Asn213Thr enhanced the synergistic effect of clavulanic acid/sulbactam and meropenem on MDR-TB compared with synonymous single-nucleotide mutation.Conclusion The combination of doripenem and sulbactam has the strongest antibacterial activity against MDR-TB.Substitution mutations of BlaC protein Ser111 Arg and Asn213Thr enhances the sensitivity of MDR-TB to meropenem through the synergy with clavulanic acid/sulbactam.

Objective To preliminarily explore the correlation between traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)syndrome types of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)and their lifestyle and emotional factors such as diet,sleep and exercise,thus to provide more information for guiding the treatment and lifestyle correction for patients with PCOS.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted in 234 patients who were diagnosed with PCOS and meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study at Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine,Capital Medical University,from January 2020 to February 2023.The collection of relevant information covered general information,diet,sleep,exercise,and psychological state.And then the patients were differentiated as four TCM syndrome types,namely spleen deficiency and phlegm-damp type,kidney deficiency and liver constraint type,kidney deficiency and blood stasis type,phlegm blended with blood stasis type according to the symptoms as well as tongue manifestation and pulse condition.The distribution of the TCM syndrome types in PCOS was investigated,and the lifestyle factors of general information,diet,sleep,exercise,and emotions in PCOS patients with various TCM syndrome types were analyzed by statistical methods,aiming to explore the relationship between the lifestyle factors and TCM syndrome types.Results(1)The analysis of the distribution of TCM syndrome types showed that among the 234 PCOS patients,104 cases(accounted for 44.4%)were differentiated as spleen deficiency and phlegm-damp type,which was the predominant type,and then came kidney deficiency and liver constraint type(85 cases,accounting for 36.3%),phlegm blended with blood stasis type(28 cases,accounting for 12.0%),and kidney deficiency and blood stasis type(17 cases,accounting for 7.3%)in descending order.(2)The correlation of TCM syndrome types with lifestyle factors such as diet,sleep and exercise and emotional factors showed that statistically significant differences were presented in the body mass index(BMI),dietary preference,five-flavor preference,having or not having exercise habits,exercise frequency,duration of exercise,exercise mode,exercise intensity,time from going to bed to falling asleep,duration of sleep,emotions being or not being calm,presence of anxiety or not,and presence of impatience and irritability or not in PCOS patients with various TCM syndrome types(P＜0.05 or P＜0.01).However,there were no statistically significant differences in the age,education level,occupation,family history,history of weight loss,dietary condition,sleep quality,time to fall asleep,frequency of staying up late,depression,obsessive-compulsive disorder,forgetfulness,fatigue,and self-consciousness of high pressure from work and study in PCOS patients with various TCM syndrome types(P＞0.05).Conclusion Healthy lifestyle is of great practical significance for the prevention and treatment of PCOS.The investigation of the correlation of TCM syndrome types with diet,sleep,exercise and psychological state of PCOS patients reveals the possible risk factors for TCM syndromes in PCOS,which will enable the practitioners to perform targeted lifestyle correction for PCOS patients with different TCM syndrome types,and has positive significance for targeted diagnosis and treatment of PCOS patients with different TCM syndrome types.

Objective This study aimed to evaluate whether the onset of the plateau phase of slow hepatitis B surface antigen decline in patients with chronic hepatitis B treated with intermittent interferon therapy is related to the frequency of dendritic cell subsets and expression of the costimulatory molecules CD40,CD80,CD83,and CD86. Method This was a cross-sectional study in which patients were divided into a natural history group(namely NH group),a long-term oral nucleoside analogs treatment group(namely NA group),and a plateau-arriving group(namely P group).The percentage of plasmacytoid dendritic cell and myeloid dendritic cell subsets in peripheral blood lymphocytes and monocytes and the mean fluorescence intensity of their surface costimulatory molecules were detected using a flow cytometer. Results In total,143 patients were enrolled(NH group,n = 49;NA group,n = 47;P group,n = 47).The results demonstrated that CD141/CD1c double negative myeloid dendritic cell(DNmDC)/lymphocytes and monocytes(%)in P group(0.041[0.024,0.069])was significantly lower than that in NH group(0.270[0.135,0.407])and NA group(0.273[0.150,0.443]),and CD86 mean fluorescence intensity of DNmDCs in P group(1832.0[1484.0,2793.0])was significantly lower than that in NH group(4316.0[2958.0,5169.0])and NA group(3299.0[2534.0,4371.0]),Adjusted P all<0.001. Conclusion Reduced DNmDCs and impaired maturation may be associated with the onset of the plateau phase during intermittent interferon therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis B.
