Objective To explore the recognition capabilities of electronic nose combined with machine learning in identifying the breath odor map of benign and malignant pulmonary nodules and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) syndrome elements. Methods The study design was a single-center observational study. General data and four diagnostic information were collected from 108 patients with pulmonary nodules admitted to the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery of Hospital of Chengdu University of TCM from April 2023 to March 2024. The patients' TCM disease location and nature distribution characteristics were analyzed using the syndrome differentiation method. The Cyranose 320 electronic nose was used to collect the odor profiles of oral exhalation, and five machine learning algorithms including random forest (RF), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), logistic regression (LR), support vector machine (SVM), and eXtreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) were employed to identify the exhaled breath profiles of benign and malignant pulmonary nodules and different TCM syndromes. Results (1) The common disease locations in pulmonary nodules were ranked in descending order as liver, lung, and kidney; the common disease natures were ranked in descending order as Yin deficiency, phlegm, dampness, Qi stagnation, and blood deficiency. (2) The electronic nose combined with the RF algorithm had the best efficacy in identifying the exhaled breath profiles of benign and malignant pulmonary nodules, with an AUC of 0.91, accuracy of 86.36%, specificity of 75.00%, and sensitivity of 92.85%. (3) The electronic nose combined with RF, LR, or XGBoost algorithms could effectively identify the different TCM disease locations and natures of pulmonary nodules, with classification accuracy, specificity, and sensitivity generally exceeding 80.00%.Conclusion Electronic nose combined with machine learning not only has the potential capabilities to differentiate the benign and malignant pulmonary nodules, but also provides new technologies and methods for the objective diagnosis of TCM syndromes in pulmonary nodules.

Objective To analyze the influencing factors of plastic bronchitis in children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection and put forward targeted prevention suggestions. Methods The clinical data of children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection who were admitted to Chengdu Third People's Hospital from September 2022 to February 2024 were retrospectively analyzed . According to whether plastic bronchitis occurred, they were divided into plastic group (n=118) and non-plastic group (n=184), and the differences between the two groups were compared and analyzed. Univariate and multivariate logistics regression analysis equations were used to analyze the independent influencing factors of plastic bronchitis in children with mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. Results Among the 302 children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection , 118 cases were diagnosed with plastic bronchitis. Analysis showed that the children’s age, duration of fever, hospital stay, pleural effusion rate, number of bronchoscopic lavage, allergy history, endoscopic mucosal erosion rate, WBC, NE%, LY%, CRP, LDH, PCT and D-D were the single factors influencing the occurrence of plastic bronchitis in children with mycoplasma pneumoniae infection. Binary logistics regression analysis revealed that age (OR=2.137, P=0.033, 95% CI: 1.132-16.603), allergy history (OR=3.028, P=0.014, 95% CI: 1.261-864), NE% (OR=2.395, P=0.031, 95% CI: 1.087-5.274), CRP (OR=3.864, P=0.004, 95% CI: 1.563-3.864), PCT (OR=4.125, P=0.001, 95% CI: 1.793-3.864), and D-D (OR=3.920, P=0.002, 95% CI: 1.632-3.864) were independent risk factors for plastic bronchitis in children with mycoplasma pneumoniae infection (P<0.05). Conclusion Age, allergy history, NE%, CRP, PCT and D-D are independent risk factors for plastic bronchitis in children with mycoplasma pneumoniae infection . It is necessary to take clinical intervention measures to reduce the occurrence risk.

BackgroundRumination can play a certain degree role of psychological adjustment in cancer patients. Previous studies have focused on studying the level of rumination in a single type of cancer patient, but there is a lack of comprehensive investigation and influencing factor research on rumination levels in different types of cancer patients. ObjectiveTo explore the level of rumination and its influencing factors among middle-advanced cancer inpatients, so as to provide certain guidance for targeted psychological care in clinical practice. MethodsFrom January 2021 to December 2022, a systematic sampling technique was used to recruit 346 patients with TNM stage III or above tumors hospitalized in Nuclear Industry 416 Hospital, Chengdu Sixth People's Hospital and the First People's Hospital of Yibin. All individuals were assessed using Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS) and the Chinese version of Event-Related Ruminant Inventory (C-ERRI), and Logistic regression analysis was utilized to identify the influencing factors of rumination. ResultsIn terms of C-ERRI, patients scored (15.59±5.61) on intrusive rumination and (14.59±5.43) on deliberate rumination. Education levels of junior high school/high school/vocational training school (OR=0.817, P<0.01) and junior college and above (OR=0.579, P<0.05) were the protective factors of intrusive rumination, whereas annual personal incomes of <10 000 yuan (OR=4.918, P<0.01) or 10 000~50 000 yuan (OR=2.076, P<0.01) and low (OR=6.882, P<0.01) or middle (OR=3.114, P<0.01) level of social support were the risk factors of intrusive rumination. For deliberate rumination, education levels of junior high school/high school/vocational training school (OR=0.574, P<0.01) and junior college and above (OR=0.449, P<0.05) were the protective factors, and low (OR=1.391, P<0.01) or middle (OR=1.161, P<0.05) levels of social support were the risk factors. ConclusionThe level of intrusive rumination of inpatients with middle-advanced cancer is related to education level, economic status and social support, furthermore, the level of deliberate rumination is related to the educational level and social support. Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2025;29(4):809-817
BACKGROUND:Platelet-rich fibrin(PRF)has many advantages, such as simple preparation, low production cost, and high safety, and has been widely used in the study of bone defect repair in oral and maxillofacial surgery, but there are problems such as too fast degradation rate and short release time of growth factors. OBJECTIVE:PRF was loaded into gelatin methacryloyl(GelMA)hydrogel and its osteogenic properties were analyzed by in vivo and in vitro experiments. METHODS:(1)New Zealand white rabbit venous blood was extracted to prepare PRF.GelMA hydrogels containing 0,0.05,0.075,and 0.1 g PRF were prepared, respectively, and were recorded as GelMA,GelMA/PRF-0.05,GelMA/PRF-0.075,and GelMA/PRF-0.1,respectively,to characterize the micromorphology and in vitro slow-release properties of the hydrogels.(2)Four kinds of hydrogels were co-cultured with MC3T3-E1 cells, respectively, and the cell proliferation activity was detected with the single cultured cells as the control. After osteogenic induction, alkaline phosphatase activity, mineralization ability,mRNA and protein expression levels of osteogenic genes(osteocalcin,osteopontin,RUNX2),ERK1/2-p38 MAPK pathway protein mRNA and protein expression levels were detected.(3)Fifteen New Zealand white rabbits were taken.Four full-layer bone defects of 8 mm diameter were prepared in the skull of each rabbit, one of which was implanted without any material(blank control group),and the other three were implanted with GelMA hydrogel,PRF,and GelMA/PRF-0.1 hydrogel, respectively. The bone defect was detected by Micro-CT and bone morphology was observed at 4,8,and 12 weeks after operation. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)Scanning electron microscopy observed that all the hydrogels of the four groups had honeycomb pore structure, and the pore size of the hydrogels decreased slightly with the increase of PRF content, but there was no significant difference between the groups. The three groups of GelMA/PRF hydrogel could release transforming growth factor β1 and insulin-like growth factor 1 at a certain rate, and the cumulative release of transforming growth factor β1 and insulin-like growth factor 1 increased significantly with the extension of time.(2)CCK-8 assay and live/dead staining showed that GelMA/PRF hydrogel could promote the proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells. The results of alkaline phosphatase staining, alizarin red staining, and osteogenic gene detection showed that GelMA/PRF hydrogel could promote the osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells, and inhibit the expression of ERK1/2-p38 MAPK pathway protein, and showed a PRF content dependence.(3)Micro-CT scan showed that the bone mineral density and bone volume fraction in the bone defect of GelMA/PRF-0.1 hydrogel group were higher than those in the other three groups(P<0.05).Hematoxylin-eosin staining showed that compared with the other three groups,GelMA/PRF-0.1 hydrogel group had faster and more mature new bone formation at the bone defect.(4)These findings indicate that GelMA/PRF hydrogel has good osteogenic activity both in vivo and in vitro, which may be related to inhibiting the expression of ERK1/2-p38 MAPK pathway protein.

ObjectiveTo find out whether there is any difference in the monitoring results of mosq-ovitraps placed in different orientations in multi-storey residential areas, so as to provide a scientific basis for routine and emergency monitoring of Aedes albopictus with mosq-ovitraps in residential areas. MethodsFrom July 6th to October 26th 2023, one mosquito ovitrap was set up in each of the 4 orientations of east, south, west and north around the buildings in a multi-storey residential area in Jinhui Town, Fengxian District, Shanghai. Data was collected and recorded 72 hours after placement. The chi-square test was used to compare the mosquito ovitrap indices (MOIs) of two independent samples, and the Kruskal⁃Wallis H test was used to compare the MOIs of multiple independent samples. ResultsAfter 16 weeks of surveillance, 997 mosquito ovitraps were recovered, of which 211 were positive, with the mosquito ovitrap index (MOI) of 21.16% and the Aedes albopictus density index of 1.03 mosquitoes·ovitrap-1. The MOIs were higher in September (24.22%) and October (23.96%), and the MOIs in the west, south and north within the two months were all above 20.00%. From July to October, the MOIs in the east, west, south and north were 20.70%, 22.20%, 25.50% and 16.20%, respectively, and the difference in MOIs among the 4 orientations was not statistically significant (χ2=6.647, P=0.084). Stratified analysis by month showed that in August, the south side of the multi-storey residential areas had the highest MOI (31.30%), the north side had the lowest MOI (1.30%), and there was a statistically significant difference in MOI in the east, west, south and north (χ2=25.986, P<0.001). In October, the MOI in the west was the highest (33.30%) and the MOI in the east was the lowest (6.30%), the difference in MOIs of the 4 orientations was statistically significant (χ2=12.007, P=0.007). The MOIs in the south side of the building in the outskirts of the residential area from the 1st week in July to the 4th week in October was lower (19.20%) than that in the south side of the inner building (31.70%), and the difference in MOI was statistically significant (χ2=5.118, P=0.024). ConclusionThe study of MOI in different orientations in a multi-storey residential area is a preliminary exploration based on field work, and the results show that there is a difference in MOIs in different orientations during the peak breeding period of mosquitoes. Further indicators such as temperature, humidity and wind speed in different orientations can be collected to explore the influencing factors of MOIs.

ObjectiveTo investigate the mechanism of Huangqi Gegentang (HGT) in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) through the application of proteomic techniques. MethodsThe rat model of T2DM was established by streptozotocin combined with a high-fat, high-sugar diet. Thirty-two male SD rats were randomized into four groups: blank, model, HGT (8.10 g·kg-1·d-1), and positive control (metformin hydrochloride, 76.5 mg·kg-1·d-1). After 6 weeks of drug intervention, the fasting blood glucose level was measured, and an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed. The area under the curve (AUC) was calculated. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was performed to assess the level of glycated hemoglobin (GHbA1c) in the serum. The limulus amebocyte lysate assay was employed to measure the serum level of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Pathological changes in the colon were observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining. The mRNA levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines including tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1β in the colon tissue were quantified via Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR). Additionally, the protein and mRNA levels of zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), Occludin, and Claudin-1 in the colon tissue were assessed by Western blot and Real-time PCR, respectively. Label-free quantitative proteomics was employed to identify the differentially expressed proteins between the colon tissue samples from the blank, model, and HGT groups. Key proteins identified were subsequently validated by Western blot and Real-time PCR. Finally, bioinformatics analysis was conducted on the differentially expressed proteins. ResultsCompared with the blank group, the model group exhibited increased fasting blood glucose, AUC, and GHbA1c levels (P<0.01), damaged colonic mucosal epithelial structure and inflammatory cell infiltration, up-regulated mRNA levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β in the colon and an increase in serum LPS content (P<0.05, P<0.01), and down-regulated protein and mRNA levels of ZO-1, Occludin, and Claudin-1 in the colon (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the HGT group showed reductions in fasting blood glucose, AUC, and GHbA1c (P<0.01), alleviated damage to the colonic mucosal epithelium, down-regulated mRNA levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β in the colon, a reduction in serum LPS content (P<0.05, P<0.01), and up-regulated protein and mRNA levels of ZO-1, Occludin, and Claudin-1 in the colon (P<0.05, P<0.01). Proteomics analysis identified 70 differentially expressed proteins that exhibited a downward trend in the model group relative to the blank group and an upward trend in the HGT group relative to the model group. These findings were corroborated by Western blot and Real-time PCR, which confirmed that the protein and mRNA levels of mucin 2 (Muc2) and transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta receptor 1 (Tgfbr1) in the colon tissue were consistent with the proteomic data. Bioinformatics analysis showed that these 70 differentially expressed proteins identified were significantly enriched in multiple signaling pathways, among which the TGF-β and advanced glycation endproduct (AGE)/receptor for advanced glycation endproduct (RAGE) signaling pathways were closely associated with damage to the intestinal mucosal barrier. This suggests that HGT may ameliorate intestinal mucosal barrier damage by regulating these pathways. ConclusionHGT potentially exerts anti-T2DM effects by influencing AGE/RAGE and TGF-β signaling pathways, thereby contributing to the restoration of the intestinal mucosal barrier.

Journal of Prevention and Treatment for Stomatological Diseases 2025;33(7):587-596
Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is the most common subtype of pemphigus. It predominantly affects adults, with pediatric cases being exceedingly rare. Despite advancements in clinical treatment, the mortality rate of pediatric PV (PPV) has historically been alarmingly high, ranging from 70% to 100% in the absence of proper diagnosis and treatment. Although recent improvements in therapeutic strategies have led to a gradual decline in mortality, early and appropriate intervention remains crucial, particularly for children with acute onset and rapid disease progression, to prevent severe complications. However, due to the rarity of PPV, no standardized diagnostic and treatment guidelines are currently available. This study retrospectively analyzed 104 PPV cases recorded in the PubMed and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases between 1969 and 2024, with the aim of providing insights for the standardized diagnosis and management of PPV. PPV presents with flaccid blisters affecting both cutaneous and mucosal surfaces. Upon rupture, these blisters result in painful, sharply demarcated erythematous erosions, accounting for approximately 1.4%-3.7% of all reported PV cases. The age of onset ranges from 1.5 to 18 years, with an average of 12.4 years, and no significant gender differences have been observed. In pediatric patients, the oral mucosa is typically the earliest and most frequently affected site, with an involvement rate as high as 87.3%, and it most commonly affects the buccal mucosa (27.9%). Other mucosal sites are affected in 52.9% of cases, with genital (28.8%) and perianal (6.7%) involvement being more frequent than in adult patients. Skin lesions are present in 80.4% of pediatric cases, a significantly higher rate than 16.0%-68.4% observed in adults. If lesions are relatively localized, local glucocorticoid therapy can be attempted first, with 8.3% of children achieving complete remission through local treatment alone. Systemic glucocorticoid therapy is the preferred option for cases that respond poorly to local therapy. Among these cases, 75.3% of pediatric patients were treated with prednisone, with 85.1% starting at an oral dose of 0.5-1.5 mg/kg/day, while 14.9% received an initial dose of 2 mg/kg/day. Alternative treatments, such as immunosuppressants, biologics, or other adjuvant medications, may be considered for pediatric patients who exhibit an inadequate response to glucocorticoid therapy or experience severe adverse effects. The most commonly used agents include azathioprine (24.0%), dapsone (21.7%), and rituximab (12.5%). The follow-up period for pediatric patients ranged from 1 to 120 months, with an average duration of 38 months. Prognosis in pediatric patients was more favorable compared to adults, with 43.8% achieving complete remission (cessation of treatment), 37.5% achieving partial remission (low-dose maintenance therapy), 9.6% still undergoing treatment, and only 1.1% succumbing to pneumonia or sepsis. Compared to adults, prolonged corticosteroid use in children poses a greater risk to physiological and psychological well-being, making them more susceptible to adverse effects related to growth, metabolism, and ocular health. Severe adverse reactions occurred in 22.1% of pediatric patients receiving corticosteroids, with Cushingoid facies (73.9%) and weight gain (39.1%) being the most common. In addition, 30.4% experienced growth and skeletal abnormalities, including growth retardation (17.4%), osteoporosis (8.7%), and fractures (4.3%). While PPV shares certain etiological, clinical, and histopathological characteristics with adult PV (APV), early diagnosis and timely intervention remain critical for optimal outcomes. Multidisciplinary collaboration is often necessary to ensure comprehensive management, improve treatment adherence, and safeguard the physical and psychological health of pediatric patients.
