ObjectiveTo investigate the imaging features of calcium salt deposition and serological markers in patients with alveolar echinococcosis through a retrospective analysis, as well as independent risk factors for the degree of calcium salt deposition in lesions, and to provide a basis for assessing disease process. MethodsA retrospective analysis was performed for the imaging and clinical data of 107 patients with alveolar echinococcosis who were admitted to The First Affiliated Hospital of Shihezi University from December 2023 to June 2025, and according to the volume of calcium salt deposition, they were divided into non-deposition group with 16 patients, mild deposition group with 52 patients, moderate deposition group with 16 patients, and severe deposition group with 23 patients. A one-way analysis of variance or the Kruskal-Wallis H test was used for comparison of continuous data between groups, and the χ2 test or Fisher’s exact test was used for comparison of categorical data between groups. The four groups were further combined into the low deposition group (no/mild deposition) and the high deposition group (moderate/severe deposition). A binary logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the independent influencing factors for calcium salt deposition, and a predictive model was established. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess the predictive performance of the model, and the Bootstrap method was used for internal validation. ResultsThere were significant differences between the four groups in sex distribution, involvement of other sites, white blood cell count, lymphocyte percentage, fibrinogen, uric acid, sodium ion, chloride ion, and calcium ion (all P<0.05). The univariate analysis showed that there were significant differences between the four groups in sex, involvement of other sites, white blood cell count, lymphocyte percentage, fibrinogen, alanine aminotransferase, albumin, creatinine, uric acid, sodium ion, chloride ion, and calcium ion (all P<0.1). The multi-collinearity diagnosis showed that the VIF values for all continuous variables ranged from 1.104 to 1.760, suggesting that collinearity did not affect modeling. An ordinal logistic regression model was established based on sex, involvement of other sites, calcium ion, lymphocyte percentage, and uric acid. The multivariate analysis showed that lymphocyte percentage (odds ratio [OR]=1.106, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.041 — 1.174, P=0.001) and blood calcium level (OR=0.005, 95%CI: 0.000 —0.230, P=0.007) were independent influencing factors for the degree of calcium salt deposition. The regression equation was established as Logit(P)=8.231 + 0.100 × lymphocyte percentage -5.344 × calcium ion. The ROC curve analysis showed that the model had an area under the ROC curve of 0.716, with a Youden index of 0.353, a sensitivity of 1.000, and a specificity of 0.353. The Hosmer-Lemeshow test showed that the model had poor calibration (χ2=20.688, P=0.008). The Bootstrap method with 1000 repeated samples showed that the estimated values of lymphocyte percentage (OR=1.106, 95%CI: 1.049 — 1.186, P=0.002) and calcium ion (OR=0.005, 95%CI: 0.000 — 0.214, P=0.010) were consistent with the original model, and the confidence intervals did not include 1, which further supported the reliability of the model. ConclusionBoth lymphocyte percentage and blood calcium level are independent influencing factors for calcium salt deposition in alveolar echinococcosis, and the degree of calcium salt deposition in alveolar echinococcosis lesions increases with the reduction in blood calcium level and the increase in lymphocyte percentage.

Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of the Corheart 6 left ventricular assist system in patients with end-stage heart failure. Methods A retrospective study was conducted on patients with end-stage heart failure who were treated with Corheart 6 left ventricular assist system from March 2022 to June 2024 in 4 hospitals in Jiangsu Province. The efficacy of the device was evaluated by comparing changes in clinical indicators at preoperative, discharge, 3-month postoperative, and 6-month postoperative timepoints, including the New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional classification, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD). The safety of the device was assessed by analyzing the intraoperative position and orientation of the blood pump inlet cannula, as well as the incidence of adverse events. Results In this study, 39 patients were collected, including 34 males and 5 females with a mean age of (56.4±12.5) years, ranging from 20 to 75 years. There was no operative death. There was no death in postoperative 3 months with a survival rate of 100.0%. There were 3 deaths in 6 months postoperatively, with a survival rate of 92.3%. All patients had a preoperative NYHA cardiac function classification of class Ⅳ. The NYHA cardiac function class of the patients improved (P<0.05) at discharge, 3 and 6 months after surgery when compared to the preoperative period. LVEF was significantly higher at 3 months after surgery than that during the preoperative period (P<0.05). LVEDD was significantly smaller at discharge, 3 and 6 months after surgery than that during the preoperative period (P<0.05). The safety evaluation's findings demonstrated that all 39 patients' intraoperative blood pump inlet tubes were oriented correctly, the artificial blood vessel suture sites were appropriate, there were no instances of device malfunction or pump thrombosis, or instances of bleeding or hemolysis, and the rate of the remaining adverse events was low. Conclusion With a low rate of adverse events and an excellent safety profile, the Corheart 6 left ventricular assist system can efficiently enhance cardiac function in patients with end-stage heart failure. It also has considerable clinical uses.

Objective To investigate the factors associated with unplanned readmission within 30 days after discharge in adult patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and to develop and validate a risk prediction model. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of patients who underwent isolated CABG at the Nanjing First Hospital between January 2020 and June 2024. Data from January 2020 to August 2023 were used as a training set, and data from September 2023 to June 2024 were used as a validation set. In the training set, patients were divided into a readmission group and a non-readmission group based on whether they had unplanned readmission within 30 days post-discharge. Clinical data between the two groups were compared, and logistic regression was performed to identify independent risk factors for unplanned readmission. A risk prediction model and a nomogram were constructed, and internal validation was performed to assess the model’s performance. The validation set was used for validation. Results A total of 2 460 patients were included, comprising 1 787 males and 673 females, with a median age of 70 (34, 89) years. The training set included 1 932 patients, and the validation set included 528 patients. In the training set, there were statistically significant differences between the readmission group (79 patients) and the non-readmission group (1 853 patients) in terms of gender, age, carotid artery stenosis, history of myocardial infarction, preoperative anemia, and heart failure classification (P<0.05). The main causes of readmission were poor wound healing, postoperative pulmonary infections, and new-onset atrial fibrillation. Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that females [OR=1.659, 95%CI (1.022, 2.692), P=0.041], age [OR=1.042, 95%CI (1.011, 1.075), P=0.008], carotid artery stenosis [OR=1.680, 95%CI (1.130, 2.496), P=0.010], duration of first ICU stay [OR=1.359, 95%CI (1.195, 1.545), P<0.001], and the second ICU admission [OR=4.142, 95%CI (1.507, 11.383), P=0.006] were independent risk factors for unplanned readmission. In the internal validation, the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.806, and the net benefit rate of the clinical decision curve analysis (DCA) was >3%. In the validation set, the AUC was 0.732, and the DCA net benefit rate ranged from 3% to 48%. Conclusion Females, age, carotid artery stenosis, duration of first ICU stay, and second ICU admission are independent risk factors for unplanned readmission within 30 days after isolated CABG. The constructed nomogram demonstrates good predictive power.

Xiaoaiping (XAP) Injection demonstrates the anti-prostate cancer (PCa) effects, yet the underlying mechanism remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the impact of XAP on PCa and elucidate its mechanism of action. PCa cell proliferation was evaluated using a cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. Cell apoptosis was assessed through Hoechst staining and Western blotting assays. Proteomics technology was employed to identify key molecules and significant signaling pathways modulated by XAP in PCa cells. To further validate potential key genes and important pathways, a series of assays were conducted, including acridine orange (AO) staining, transmission electron microscopy, and immunofluorescence assays. The molecular mechanism of XAP against PCa in vivo was examined using a PC3 xenograft mouse model. Results demonstrated that XAP significantly inhibited cell proliferation in multiple PCa cell lines. In C4-2 and prostate cancer cell line-3 (PC3) cells, XAP induced cellular apoptosis, evidenced by reduced B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) levels and elevated Bcl-2-associated X (Bax) levels. Proteomic, immunofluorescence, and quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) investigations revealed a strong correlation between forkhead box O3a (FoxO3a) autophagic degradation and the anti-PCa action of XAP. XAP hindered autophagy by reducing the expression levels of autophagy-related protein 5 (Atg5)/autophagy-related protein 12 (Atg12) and enhancing FoxO3a expression and nuclear translocation. Furthermore, XAP exhibited potent anti-PCa action in PC3 xenograft mice and triggered FoxO3a nuclear translocation in tumor tissue. These findings suggest that XAP induces PCa apoptosis via inhibition of FoxO3a autophagic degradation, potentially offering a novel perspective on XAP injection as an effective anticancer therapy for PCa.

Radiochemotherapy-induced oral mucositis (OM) is a common oral complication in patients with tumors following head and neck radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Erosion and ulcers are the main features of OM that seriously affect the quality of life of patients and even the progress of tumor treatment. To date, differences in clinical prevention and treatment plans for OM have been noted among doctors of various specialties, which has increased the uncertainty of treatment effects. On the basis of current research evidence, this expert consensus outlines risk factors, clinical manifestations, clinical grading, ancillary examinations, diagnostic basis, prevention and treatment strategies and efficacy indicators for OM. In addition to strategies such as basic oral care, anti-inflammatory and analgesic agents, anti-infective agents, pro-healing agents, and photobiotherapy recommended in previous guidelines, we also emphasize the role of traditional Chinese medicine in OM prevention and treatment. This expert consensus aims to provide references and guidance for dental physicians and oncologists in formulating strategies for OM prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, standardizing clinical practice, reducing OM occurrence, promoting healing, and improving the quality of life of patients.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2025;29(13):2641-2647
BACKGROUND:Casein kinase 2 binding protein 1 (CKIP-1) is an important negative control gene in bone formation. After the deletion of this gene, the overall bone of mice was significantly enhanced, and bone formation and bone density were significantly increased.microRNA (miRNA) as the early found small molecular regulator has a regulatory effect on most of the coding genes and plays an important role in osteogenic differentiation.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect and molecular mechanism of miRNA/CKIP-1 axis on osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells from osteoporosis patients.METHODS:The miRNA-Seq technology was used to detect the changes of miRNA in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in 32 patients with osteoporosis treated in the Department of Orthopedics,Kaifeng Central Hospital from March to June 2022 and healthy people in the physical examination center during the same period. The Targetscan website was used to predict the miRNA targeted to regulate CKIP-1.Luciferase reporter gene assay was used to detect the binding of miRNA and CKIP-1 promoter DNA.miR-192-5p analogs (miR-192-5p mimics)/negative control (NC mimics) or miR-192-5p inhibitors (miR-192-5p inhibitor)/negative control (NC inhibitor) were transfected in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. On days 7 and 14 after osteogenic induction, the expression levels of Runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2),osteocalcin,anti-osteopontin,bone sialoprotein, and CKIP-1,and the differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells into osteoblasts were detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR and alizarin red staining. The regulatory effect of miR-192-5p/CKIP-1/axis on osteogenic differentiation of cells was detected by western blot assay and alizarin red staining.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the healthy group, the expression levels of 16 miRNAs were significantly up-regulated and those of 53 miRNAs were significantly down-regulated in the osteoporosis group (P<0.05).Using Targetscan website and verified by luciferase reporter gene experiment,it was found that miR-192-5p and CKIP-1 had complementary nucleotide sequences (P<0.05).Overexpression of miR-192-5p significantly increased the expression levels of Runx2,osteocalcin,osteopontin,and bone sialoprotein (P<0.05),and inhibition of miR-192-5p significantly decreased the expression levels of Runx2,osteocalcin,osteopontin,and bone sialoprotein (P<0.05).After silencing the expression of CKIP-1,the protein levels of Runx2,osteocalcin,and osteopontin increased (P<0.05);the inhibitory effect of knockdown of miR-192-5p on osteogenic differentiation of cells was reversed.Above results confirm that the expression of miR-192-5p is decreased in osteoporosis.miR-192-5p promotes osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells by targeting the inhibition of CKIP-1 expression.

Objective:To summarize the clinical characteristics and treatment experience of patients with botulism after cosmetic botulinum toxin injection. Methods:A retrospective study was conducted on patients admitted to the Department of Medical Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery of the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University for botulism after cosmetic botulinum toxin injection between January 1, 2023, and October 31, 2024. Clinical data and treatment regimens were collected. Patients received botulinum antitoxin injection, neurotrophic therapy, nutrition supplementation, modulation and enhancement of cellular immune function, and systemic supportive care based on their condition. Prior to antitoxin administration, a skin test was performed. Patients with a negative test received intramuscular injections of 10 000 U of antitoxin serum every 12 hours, while those with a positive result underwent a desensitization protocol. The cessation criterion was significant improvement of toxic symptoms. Data collected included age, gender, region, time of presentation, injection location, brand and type of toxin, injection time, sites and dose of injection, time to onset of initial symptoms, main symptoms, skin test result for antitoxin, dosage of antitoxin administered, length of hospital stay, adverse reactions and prognosis. Data analysis was performed using GraphPad Prism Version 10.2.0.Results:A total of 179 patients were included, with 8 cases in 2023 and 171 cases in 2024. The majority were female (97.2%, 174 cases). The age range was 18-62 years, with a median age of 35 years; the highest proportion was in the 20-40 age group (71.5%, 128 cases). Patients were from 23 different provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government in China. The injected product was mostly an unspecified brand of botulinum toxin (57.5%, 103 cases). Injections were primarily administered in non-medical institutions, with beauty salons or private studios accounting for 88.8% (159 cases). Injection sites included the platysma (92 cases), masseter muscle (82 cases), orbicularis oculi muscle (82 cases), frontalis muscle (67 cases), among others, with some patients receiving injections at multiple sites. 69 cases (38.5%) of patients were unaware of the injected dose; for the remaining cases, based on information provided, the injected doses were all within the safe range. The incubation period was mostly 1-7 days. The main symptoms included fatigue (171 cases), dysphagia (137 cases), dizziness (101 cases), blurred vision (76 cases), and difficulty opening eyes (66 cases). 176 patients received botulinum antitoxin treatment; 82 cases (46.6%) had a positive skin test and received desensitization injections, while 94 cases (53.4%) had a negative test. The total dosage of antitoxin used ranged from 10 000 U to 240 000 U. Three patients received only adjuvant therapy such as neurotrophic support. Adverse reactions during treatment primarily included induration at the injection site and serum sickness, all of which resolved after symptomatic treatment with antihistamines, steroids, etc. The hospital stay ranged from 1 to 24 d, with an average of 4.6 d. Upon discharge, symptoms in all patients had alleviated or resolved. At the 6-month follow-up after discharge, 14 patients were lost to follow-up; the remaining patients recovered well with no other complications. Conclusion:Poisoning incidents due to the illegal or improper use of botulinum toxin are increasing. Administration of botulinum antitoxin is an effective means to ameliorate intoxicating symptoms. Patients should seek timely medical intervention and receive antitoxin treatment as early as possible. Desensitization administration does not affect the efficacy of the antitoxin.
