Nipah virus (NiV) is a highly contagious zoonotic pathogen, responsible for a relatively high mortality in human and posing a serious threat to human health. There are currently no licensed vaccines or antiviral drugs. Preclinical studies on NiV vaccines with different strategies are mainly based on NiV glycoprotein (G) and/or fusion protein (F). Internationally, three NiV vaccine candidates are currently in the Phase I clinical stage. The risk of Nipah virus transmitted to China is relatively high. In order to cope with potential future epidemics, China should develop NiV prevention and control strategies, and accelerate Nipah virus-related technology reserves and vaccine development. This article introduces NiV from the aspects of microbiology, epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and vaccine research, and puts forward prevention and control suggestions in light of the risk of NiV transmission to China and China′s national conditions, hoping to provide reference for NiV vaccine research and development.

Objective:To study the risk factors, diagnosis and treatment of transient hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia (HH) in newborns.Methods:From January 2016 to December 2020, newborns with transient HH (HH group) admitted to our hospital were enrolled in this retrospective nested case-control study. Newborns with similar gestational age (GA) (differences of GA<2 w) without HH were matched with 1∶2 ratio as the non-HH group. Clinical characteristics of the two groups were compared and the risk factors and therapeutic results of HH in newborns were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 statistical software.Results:A total of 39 cases were included in the HH group and 75 cases were matched in the non-HH group. The proportion of small for gestational age (SGA) [51.3%(20/39) vs. 32.0%(24/75)], the amount of amino acids (AA) in intravenous infusion[1.0(0.0,1.0) g/(kg·d) vs. 0.0(0.0,1.0) g/(kg·d)], the incidence of hypoglycemia [(4.3±1.9) times vs. (3.6±1.3) times] and the maximum glucose infusion rate (GIR)[(8.3±2.5) mg/(kg·min) vs. (7.4±1.1) mg/(kg·min)] in the HH group were higher than the non-HH group (all P<0.05). The platelet count in the HH group were lower than the non-HH group [(186.9±60.9)×10 9/L vs. (215.3±61.7)×10 9/L, P<0.05]. SGA ( OR=2.535, 95% CI 1.077~5.971), the amount of intravenous AA ( OR=2.180, 95% CI 1.029~4.619) and the maximum GIR ( OR=1.405, 95% CI 1.088~1.815) were independent risk factors for transient HH. In the HH group, 28/39 cases were treated with Diazoxide or Octreotide and the therapeutic effects were good with few adverse drug reactions (ADR). 37/39 cases were recovered within 28 d of birth and the other 2 cases were recovered at 2.5 m and 3.5 m, respectively. Conclusions:SGA, the amount of intravenous AA and higher GIR are risk factors for transient HH in newborns. Diazoxide or Octreotide are effective with few ADR in the treatment of transient HH. Most patients will recover from transient HH in 2 w to 3 m.

Objective:To study the clinical value of bladder stimulation technique (BST) for clean-catch urine collection in late newborns.Methods:From November 2020 to March 2022, relatively stable late newborns hospitalized in the Department of Neonatology of our hospital were enrolled in the prospective randomized controlled trial. The newborns were assigned into BST group and control group. In BST group, urine was collected using BST (suprapubic tapping alternating with lumbosacral massage for 5 min) 20~30 min after feeding and specimen were collected using urine bag before and after BST. In the control group, urine was collected using urine bag method. The urine collection was considered successful if >1 ml of urine not contaminated by faeces were collected within 60 min. The t-test and χ 2 test were used for data analysis. Results:A total of 231 late newborns were included with 117 cases in BST group and 114 in control group. The rate of successful urine collection in BST group was higher than control group (65.8% vs. 39.4%).The time needed for successful urine collection [(30.2±8.5) min vs. (40.7±12.9) min], the incidences of faeces contamination (2.5% vs. 21.1%) and urine contamination (11.7% vs. 26.7%) in BST group were all significantly lower than control group(all P<0.05). Male and female newborns in BST group had similar success rates of urine collection (65.6% vs. 66.0%). Male newborns in BST group had similar urine contamination rate with control group (9.5% vs. 11.5%) and female newborns in BST group had significantly lower urine contamination rate than control group (14.3% vs. 47.4%, P<0.05). Urine was successfully collected in 71 newborns in BST group with median duration of BST for 81 (61,132) s. No adverse effects were observed except for transient consolable crying. Conclusions:Compared with urine bag collection method, BST improves successful urine collection rates and reduces the time needed for urine collection and urine contamination rates (especially for females).

Objective:To analyze the different clinicopathological features of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma with and without viral hepatitis.Methods:The clinicopathological data of 79 intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma cases from Mar 2012 to Sep 2018 at Henan Provincial People's Hospital were retrospectively analyzed.Results:Twenty-five of the 79 patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma were accompanied by viral hepatitis. Those with viral hepatitis had a lower mean age at onset than those without [(53±11) years vs. (60±11) years, P=0.011], higher proportion of male patients (80% vs. 52%, P=0.017), higher AFP positive rate (40% vs. 19%, P=0.041), lower CA19-9 positive rate (48% vs. 72%, P=0.036), tend to occur in the right liver lobe (76% vs. 44%, P=0.009), a lower rate of bile duct invasion (16% vs. 41%, P=0.03), and were more likely to be mass type (mass type proportion 96% vs. 72%, P=0.032). Conclusions:Viral hepatitis is common in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma with and without viral hepatitis differ in clinicopathology. Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma with viral hepatitis is more likely to have the characteristics of hepatocellular carcinoma, while intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma without viral hepatitis is more likely to have the characteristics of cholangiocarcinoma.

Drought is a common limiting factor affecting rice yield and quality. Cerium oxide nanoparticles(nanoceria) have been widely reported to improve crop stress tolerance. However, the effects and mechanisms of nanoceria on rice drought tolerance are still unknown. The aim of this study is to investigate whether nanoceria can improve rice drought tolerance by modulating reactive oxygen species(ROS) homeostasis and nitric oxide(NO) levels. Our results showed that compared with no-nanoparticle treatment, nanoceria significantly increased the fresh weight of rice seedlings under drought stress(19%, P < 0. 05). Also, under drought stress, the ROS level of rice leaves treated with nanoceria was significantly lower(82%, P < 0. 05) than leaves treated with buffer. The leaf NO level after nanoceria treatment, however, is significantly higher(46%, P < 0. 05) than that with no-nanoparticle treatment under drought stress. Moreover, compared with control plants, nanoceria maintained better membrane integrity in rice leaf cells under drought stress, showing a 70% decrease(P < 0. 05) in dead leaf cells. This study explores the mechanisms underlying nanoceria’s improved rice drought tolerance by affecting ROS and NO levels, which not only further enriches our knowledge about the interaction between nanoparticles and crops under abiotic stress but also gives more support on the sustainable development of nano-enabled agriculture.

A growing body of evidence has linked the gut microbiota to liver metabolism. The manipulation of intestinal microflora has been considered as a promising avenue to promote liver health. However, the effects of Lactobacillus gasseri LA39, a potential probiotic, on liver metabolism remain unclear. Accumulating studies have investigated the proteomic profile for mining the host biological events affected by microbes, and used the germ-free (GF) mouse model to evaluate host-microbe interaction. Here, we explored the effects of L. gasseri LA39 gavage on the protein expression profiles of the liver of GF mice. Our results showed that a total of 128 proteins were upregulated, whereas a total of 123 proteins were downregulated by treatment with L. gasseri LA39. Further bioinformatics analyses suggested that the primary bile acid (BA) biosynthesis pathway in the liver was activated by L. gasseri LA39. Three differentially expressed proteins (cytochrome P450 family 27 subfamily A member 1 (CYP27A1), cytochrome P450 family 7 subfamily B member 1 (CYP7B1), and cytochrome P450 family 8 subfamily B member 1 (CYP8B1)) involved in the primary BA biosynthesis pathway were further validated by western blot assay. In addition, targeted metabolomic analyses demonstrated that serum and fecal β‍-muricholic acid (a primary BA), dehydrolithocholic acid (a secondary BA), and glycolithocholic acid-3-sulfate (a secondary BA) were significantly increased by L. gasseri LA39. Thus, our data revealed that L. gasseri LA39 activates the hepatic primary BA biosynthesis and promotes the intestinal secondary BA biotransformation. Based on these findings, we suggest that L. gasseri LA39 confers an important function in the gut‒liver axis through regulating BA metabolism.

Objective:To study the efficacy and safety of oral acetaminophen or high-dose ibuprofen as rescue treatment after failure of conservative management in very preterm infants (VPIs) with haemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (hsPDA).Methods:From May 2020 to November 2022, VPIs with hsPDA (gestational age<32 weeks and age 4~6 d) admitted to NICU of our hospital were prospectively enrolled. The rescue treatment was initiated if hsPDA still exist after 3~4 d of conservative management. The infants were randomly assigned into acetaminophen group (oral acetaminophen 15 mg/kg, once every 6 h for 3 d) and high-dose ibuprofen group (oral ibuprofen 20 mg/kg for the first dose, 10 mg/kg each dose after 24 h and 48 h). Before and after rescue treatment, the following were recorded: echocardiography, complete blood count, biochemistry, B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), fecal occult blood test (FOBT) and transcranial Doppler ultrasound. Urine output and complications were also examined. SPSS 20.0 was used for statistical analysis.Results:A total of 36 cases were in the acetaminophen group and 37 in the high-dose ibuprofen group. The two groups showed similar efficacy as rescue treatment [80.6% (29/36) vs. 78.4% (29/37), P>0.05]. No significant differences existed in the incidences of upper gastrointestinal bleeding, positive FOBT, oliguria, stage Ⅱ-Ⅲ necrotizing enterocolitis and stage Ⅲ-Ⅳ intraventricular hemorrhage between the two groups ( P>0.05). After rescue treatment, the serum cystatin C in high-dose ibuprofen group was higher [(1.72±0.29) mg/L vs. (1.58±0.26) mg/L] and 24-hours urine output was lower [(3.1±1.0) ml/(kg·h) vs. (3.7±0.7) ml/(kg·h)] than the acetaminophen group (all P<0.05). No significant differences existed in serum creatinine, platelet count, BNP, alanine aminotransferase and total serum bilirubin between the two groups ( P>0.05). Conclusions:After failure of early conservative management in VPIs with hsPDA, when initiated within 7-10 d after birth, rescue treatment with oral acetaminophen or high-dose ibuprofen has a similar efficacy of 80%, and both drugs are safe. Oral high-dose ibuprofen may have a greater effect on renal function than acetaminophen.

Objective To establish early forecasting model of tuberculosis in schools of Hongshan district, and provide scientific strategy for prevention and control of tuberculosis. Methods Using data on 2013-2020 in schools tuberculosis, established time series models and chosen the best one to forecast and tested the incidence of tuberculosis. Results The best model for school tuberculosis was ARIMA (0,0,3) (0,1,1)₁₂. The trend of the predicted value was basically consistent with the actual value which was also in the 95% confidence interval of predicted numbers. The effectiveness of forecasting was good with a 2.313% value of MAPE. Conclusion The ARIMA product seasonal model can effectively fit and forecast time series data on students'’ tuberculosis. It also can be used to early warn and predict the incidence of school tuberculosis in Hongshan district.

Objective To analyze the rebleeding rate in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) after endoscopic treatment of esophagogastric variceal bleeding and then assessed the risk factors of the rebleeding in the patients. Methods This study retrospectively recruited 169 hepatitis B-associated HCC patients complicated with PVTT and esophagogastric variceal bleeding treated by endoscopy in Department of Gastroenterology, Beijing Ditan Hospital from September 2008 to December 2016. Among them, 47 patients had PVTT Ⅱ, 67 patients had PVTT Ⅲ, and 55 patients had PVTT Ⅳ. Their clinicopathological and follow-up data were retrieved from the medical records and statistically analyzed. Continuous data were compared among groups using ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis H test. Categorial data were compared among groups using Chi-square test or corrected Fisher test. The Kaplan-Meier curves and Log-rank test were performed to analyze the rebleeding rate and cumulative survival rates after treatment. The univariate multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to identify the risk factors affecting the rebleeding of patients. Results Compared with PVTT Ⅱ and Ⅲ, PVTT Ⅳ patients had a higher serum level of the direct bilirubin ( Z =6.153, P =0.046). The endoscopy treatment successfully blocked esophagogastric variceal bleeding in all patients. There was no significant difference in the rebleeding rates within six months and a year after the treatment (all P > 0.05). It was also no statistically significant difference in cumulative survival rates in six months and l-, 2-, and 3-year after the treatment in PVTT Ⅱ, Ⅲ, and Ⅳ patients (all P > 0.05). Cox multivariate regression analysis showed that hepatic encephalopathy ( HR =3.643, 95% CI : 2.099-6.325, P < 0.001), γ-glutamyltransferase ( HR =1.002, 95% CI : 1.000-1.005, P =0.029), AFP ( HR =1.000, 95% CI : 1.000-1.000, P =0.002) and numbers of tumor lesions ( HR =1.647, 95% CI : 1.011-2.684, P =0.045) were all independent risk factors for 1-year rebleeding in these PVTT patients with esophagogastric variceal bleeding after endoscopic treatment. Conclusion Endoscopic hemostasis is a feasible treatment option for HCC patients with PVTT and esophagogastric variceal bleeding. However, there was no significant difference in the rebleeding and cumulative survival rates in these patients. Furthermore, hepatic encephalopathy, γ-glutamyltransferase, AFP and numbers of tumor lesions were all independent risk factors for 1-year rebleeding in these patients.

Objective: To investigate the effects and mechanism of digoxin on atrium electrical remodeling and susceptibility of atrial fibrillation (AF) in aged rabbits. Methods: Twenty aged male New Zealand rabbits were divided into aged group and aged plus digoxin group (n=10 each). Electrical parameters including heart rate (HR), RR and QT interval, ST segment and P wave dispersion from normal Ⅱ electrocardiogram, and the maximum upstroke velocity (Max_dv/dt), plateau potential (plateau P), action potential duration of 10%, 20% and 90% (APD₁₀, APD₂₀, APD₉₀) from recording of monophasic action potential (MAP), as well as atrial effective refractory period (AERP₂₀₀) and dispersion (dERP₂₀₀) with 200 ms of basic cycle length (BCL), and frequency self adaptation of AERP with 300 ms and 150 ms of BCLs (fERP) were recorded and compared between the 2 groups. BCLs and inducibility of AF post programmed electrical stimulation and Burst-pacing in left atrium tissue of rabbits in vivo were also analyzed. The L-type calcium current (I_Ca-L) in 2 groups were recorded via whole-cell patch clamp technique, and the fluorescence intensity of intracellular free Ca²⁺ was detected with Flup-3/AM loading by the laser scanning confocal microscope in enzymatically dissociated single rabbit atrial myocytes. Results: Compared with aged group, the heart rate was faster, RR and QT interval were obvious shorter, ST segment was raised and P wave dispersion was significantly increased in aged plus digoxin group (all P<0.05). Moreover, compared with aged group, the Max_dv/dt and plateau P were obviously increased, APD₁₀ and APD₂₀ were significantly prolongated, and APD₉0 was significantly shorter in aged plus digoxin group (all P<0.01). Otherwise, the fERP was markedly increased (0.81±0.15 vs. 0.67±0.05), and the induced rate of AF was obviously higher in aged plus digoxin group than in aged group (6/8 vs. 4/9) (all P<0.01). With voltage clamp model, digoxin significantly increased I_Ca-L of atrial myocytes of aged rabbits, When command potential was 10 mV, the current densities of I_Ca-L were significantly higher in digoxin group than that in aged group ((15.45±2.38) pA/pF vs. (7.03±1.69) pA/pF, P<0.01). Otherwise, the I-V curve of I_Ca-L was downward shifted of all I-V curves in digoxin perfused aged atrial cells of rabbits. Moreover, the fluorescence intensities of intracellular free Ca²⁺ was significantly higher in aged plus digoxin group than in aged group ((1 748±173) μmol/L vs. (478.13±87.63) μmol/L, P<0.01). Conclusion Digoxin could aggravate the atrial electrical remodeling in atrium of aged rabbits, facilitate susceptibility of atrial fibrillation in aged rabbit, increased current density of I_Ca-L and concentration of intracellular free Ca²⁺, followed Ca²⁺ overload and oscillations might be part of the underlying mechanisms.
