Methods:
Cervical radiographs were analyzed. EOP hyperplasia was classified into three subtypes with standardized length measurements. Variables encompassed demographics, ONL-related indices, and sagittal parameters. Subtype comparisons and multivariate regression analyses (with EOP length as dependent variable) were conducted.
Results:
Analysis of 187 CSM patients (64.2% male) identified gender-specific patterns: males exhibited greater EOP length (9.4±6.8 mm vs. 4.6±3.4 mm, p<0.001). Type III EOP demonstrated male predominance (82.4% vs. type I 31.8%, type II 51.4%; p<0.001), with associated longer hyperplasia length (11.6±6.6 mm vs. type II 5.1±1.9 mm, p<0.001). Type III EOP was associated with higher ONL prevalence (type III 64.8% vs. type I 45.5%, type II 41.9%; p=0.010) and longer ONL osteophyte length (type III 18.8±9.8 mm vs. type I 14.2±8.1 mm, type II 14.2±9.4 mm; p=0.046). Multivariate regression confirmed male sex (β=–3.82, p=0.009), ONL osteophyte length (β=0.16, p=0.017), T1 slope (β=0.27, p=0.041), and spino-cranial angle (β=–0.19, p=0.009) as factors independently associated with EOP length (adjusted R²=0.382).
Conclusions
Severe EOP hyperplasia exhibits a male-predominant distribution pattern and demonstrates significant radiological associations with ONL and cervical sagittal imbalance in CSM patients. These findings advocate for EOP evaluation in clinical evaluations to identify high-risk biomechanical profiles.

Background Lung tissue fibrosis caused by exposure to free silica (SiO2) dust is the core pathological feature of silicosis. Lipocalin-2 (LCN2), as a secreted glycoprotein, plays an important role in various inflammatory diseases, but its specific role in silicosis-induced inflammatory injury remains unclear. Objective To identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and enriched pathways in the lung tissues of rats with silicosis, and to explore the regulatory mechanism of LCN2 in silicosis inflammation. Methods Twenty specific pathogen-free male SD rats were randomly divided into a control group and a silicosis model group (n=10 per group). The silicosis model was established via a single intratracheal instillation of silicon dioxide (SiO2) suspension (50 mg), while the control group received an equal volume of normal saline. In vitro, NR8383 cells were divided into a control group and a SiO2 treatment group. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and Van Gieson (VG) staining were used to evaluate alveolar structure damage, inflammatory infiltration, and collagen deposition in the lung tissues. Transcriptomic sequencing was applied to screen for DEGs and enriched signaling pathways. Western blot was used to detect the protein expression of interleukin-6 (IL-6), E-cadherin (ECA), cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36), liver X receptor (LXR), ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1), and LCN2 in both rat lung tissues and NR8383 cells. Immunohistochemistry was used to further assess LCN2 expression and localization. Additionally, NR8383 cells were treated with the LCN2 inhibitor ZINC00640089 and assigned to four groups: control, ZINC00640089-only, SiO2, and SiO2+ZINC00640089. Western blot was used to evaluate the expression of LCN2, IL-6, and interleukin-1β (IL-1β). Results HE and VG staining revealed disorganized lung tissue structure, damaged alveolar walls, nodule formation, and increased collagen deposition in the silicosis model group compared to the controls. Transcriptomic analysis identified 2723 DEGs in the lung tissues of silicosis rats (312 down-regulated and 2411 up-regulated) with LCN2 expression being significantly up-regulated. These DEGs were primarily enriched in pathways related to the innate immune response, extracellular matrix (ECM)-receptor interaction, and inflammatory response. Immunohistochemical staining confirmed elevated LCN2 levels in the lung tissues of the model rats. Western blot demonstrated that the protein levels of IL-6, CD36, and LCN2 were significantly increased (P<0.05), whereas ABCA1 and ECA were significantly decreased in the silicosis group (P<0.05). Similarly, in SiO2-treated NR8383 cells, IL-6, CD36, and LCN2 expressions significantly increased (P<0.05), while ABCA1 and LXR significantly decreased (P<0.05). Compared with the SiO2 group, treatment with ZINC00640089 significantly reduced the expression levels of LCN2, IL-6, and IL-1β (P<0.05). Conclusion LCN2 is significantly upregulated in both the lung tissues of silicosis rats and SiO2-treated NR8383 cells. Inhibiting LCN2 expression effectively reduces the SiO2-induced inflammatory response, indicating that LCN2 serves as a potential therapeutic target for silicosis.

AIM: To compare the visual quality in patients with low-to-moderate myopia after 0.05 D interval spherical lens optometry-guided small-incision lenticule extraction(SMILE)and conventional 0.25 D interval spherical lens optometry-guided SMILE.METHODS: Retrospective study. A total of 400 cases(400 eyes)with low-to-moderate myopia that underwent SMILE in the ophthalmology department of 989th Hospital of Joint Logistic Support Force from August 2021 to August 2023 were enrolled and the data from the right eyes were collected for analysis. According to the method of optometry test modality, they were divided into 0.05 D group and 0.25 D group, with 200 eyes in each group. The differences were compared between the two groups of patients in intraoperative corneal ablation thickness, uncorrected distance visual acuity(UDVA), high-order corneal aberrations(HOA), spherical aberrations, vertical coma, horizontal coma and trefoil aberrations before and at 1, 3 and 6 mo after surgery. Additionally, the percentage of eyes with residual spherical equivalent(SE)≤±0.25 D, postoperative visual symptoms and scores on the quality of visual(Qov)were compared between the two groups at 6 mo after surgery.RESULTS: The corneal ablation thickness in the 0.05 D group was 92.78±16.56 μm, which was slightly higher than that in the 0.25 D group(83.24±17.33 μm; P<0.001). The UDVA at each postoperative time point in the 0.05 D group was superior to that in the 0.25 D group(all P<0.001). The HOA, spherical aberration, horizontal coma and vertical coma in the two groups at 1, 3 and 6 mo after operation were higher than those before operation(all P<0.05). The spherical aberration in the 0.05 D group at each time point after surgery were higher than those in the 0.25 D group, and vertical coma were lower than those in the 0.25 D group(all P<0.05). At 6 mo postoperatively, the percentage of eyes with residual SE ≤±0.25 D in the 0.05 D group was 97.5%(195 eyes), which was higher than 87.5%(175 eyes)in the 0.25 D group(P<0.05). The most common adverse visual symptoms after SMILE in both groups were hazy vision and glare. The total Qov score in the 0.05 D group was 0.35(0.24, 0.55), which was lower than [0.62(0.32, 0.89)] in the 0.25 D group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION: Compared with conventional 0.25 D interval spherical lens optometry-guided SMILE, the 0.05 D interval spherical lens optometry-guided SMILE for the correction of low-to-moderate myopia has better predictability and can achieve better vision and visual quality.

ObjectiveTo analyze the epidemiological trends and characteristics of brucellosis in humans (hereinafter referred to as brucellosis) in Tangshan City, Hebei Province from 2016 to 2023, and to provide a scientific basis for formulating brucellosis prevention and control strategies in the region. MethodsThe incidence data of human brucellosis in Tangshan City from 2016 to 2023 were collected from the China Disease Prevention and Control Information System. The diagnosis time, infection route, and clinical characteristics of the cases were obtained from the case investigation reports. Descriptive epidemiological methods were used to analyze the temporal, spatial, demographic distributions, and clinical characteristics of human brucellosis. Brucella species were identified using agglutination tests with bacterial suspension and A/M antigen-positive serum. ResultsA total of 2 193 cases of human brucellosis were confirmed and clinically diagnosed in Tangshan City from 2016 to 2023, with the peak incidence occured from March to August, and which exhibited distinct geographic distribution patterns. The highest incidence rate was found in people aged 60‒<70 years. The occupation of cases were primarily farmers. The incidence rate in males (528/100 000) was higher than that in females (184/100 000). All cases had confirmed exposure to infected animals or contaminated animal products. ConclusionThe epidemic of human brucellosis in Tangshan exhibited an overall steady downward trend from 2016 to 2023, except for a slight increase in 2016 and 2021, with the incidence rate controlled at 289/100 000‒335/100 000. The prevention and control situation of human brucellosis still remains severe, with the highest incidence rate in the eastern region of Tangshan, which are characterized by the breeding, slaughtering, and processing of cattle and sheep. Therefore, it it is necessary to enhance the prevention and control of human brucellosis among the personnel engaged in these industries in the eastern areas.

Chinese Medical Journal 2025;138(6):702-712
BACKGROUND:
Electroacupuncture (EA) treatment is efficacious in patients with respiratory disorders, although the mechanisms of its action in lung-function protection are poorly understood. This study aimed to explore the neuroanatomical mechanisms of EA stimulation at the BL13 acupoint (Feishu, EA-BL13) improvement in asthma.
METHODS:
Allergic asthma was induced by intranasal 2.0% ovalbumin (OVA) instillation combined with intraperitoneal injection of the 10.0% OVA. The levels of interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-5 were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Hematoxylin and eosin and periodic acid-schiff stain were used to evaluate inflammatory cell infiltration and mucus secretion. Cellular oncogene fos induction in neurons after EA stimulation was detected by immunofluorescent staining. The messenger RNA expression levels of adrenergic receptors were quantified with real-time polymerase chain reaction.
RESULTS:
EA improved airway inflammation and mucus secretion mainly by activating somatosensory-sympathetic pathways ( P <0.001). Briefly, the intermediolateral (IML) nuclei of the spinal cord received signals from somatic EA stimulation and then delivered the information via the sympathetic trunk to the lung. Excited sympathetic nerve endings in lung tissue released large amounts of catecholamines that specifically activated the β2 adrenergic receptor (β2AR) on T cells ( P <0.01) and further decreased the levels of IL-4 and IL-5 ( P <0.001) through the cyclic adenosine monophosphate/protein kinase A signaling pathway.
CONCLUSION
This study provided a new explanation and clinical basis for the use of EA-BL13 as a treatment for allergic asthma in both the attack and remission stages and other respiratory disorders related to airway inflammation.

Journal of Public Health and Preventive Medicine 2025;36(2):91-94
Objective To explore the correlation between osteocalcin (OCN) and visceral fat area (VFA) in overweight/obese population. Methods The data of 297 overweight/obese people who underwent health examinations in Health Management Department of Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University from August 2021 to August 2024 were analyzed. According to the VFA value measured by InBody, the subjects were divided into an excessive group (VFA ≥100 cm2) and a normal group (VFA<100 cm2). The baseline data, glucose metabolism indicators, lipid metabolism indicators and OCN were compared between the two groups. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the independent risk factors affecting visceral fat deposition in overweight/obese people. Results According to the VFA value, there were 193 cases (64.98%) in the excessive group and 104 cases (35.02%) in the normal group. There were no statistical differences in gender, age and comorbidities between the two groups (P>0.05). The BMI, FPG, HbA1c, TC, TG, and LDL-C in the excessive group were higher than those in the normal group, while the HDL-C and OCN were lower than those in the normal group (P<0.05). Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that BMI, FPG, HbA1c, TC, TG and LDL-C were independent risk factors for visceral fat deposition in overweight/obese people, while HDL-C and OCN were protective factors (P<0.05). Conclusion Visceral fat deposition in overweight/obese people is closely related to OCN content, and is affected by abnormal glucolipid metabolism, which provides new ideas for the prevention and treatment of obesity-related diseases.

T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) is a highly aggressive hematologic malignancy with a poor prognosis, despite advancements in treatment. Many patients struggle with relapse or refractory disease. Investigating the role of the super-enhancer (SE) regulated gene ubiquitin-specific protease 20 (USP20) in T-ALL could enhance targeted therapies and improve clinical outcomes. Analysis of histone H3 lysine 27 acetylation (H3K27ac) chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-seq) data from six T-ALL cell lines and seven pediatric samples identified USP20 as an SE-regulated driver gene. Utilizing the Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia (CCLE) and BloodSpot databases, it was found that USP20 is specifically highly expressed in T-ALL. Knocking down USP20 with short hairpin RNA (shRNA) increased apoptosis and inhibited proliferation in T-ALL cells. In vivo studies showed that USP20 knockdown reduced tumor growth and improved survival. The USP20 inhibitor GSK2643943A demonstrated similar anti-tumor effects. Mass spectrometry, RNA-Seq, and immunoprecipitation revealed that USP20 interacted with hypoxia-inducible factor 1 subunit alpha (HIF1A) and stabilized it by deubiquitination. Cleavage under targets and tagmentation (CUT&Tag) results indicated that USP20 co-localized with HIF1A, jointly modulating target genes in T-ALL. This study identifies USP20 as a therapeutic target in T-ALL and suggests GSK2643943A as a potential treatment strategy.
