2.CHAO Enxiang's Experience in Treating Idiopathic Pulmonary Hemosiderosis by Staging:from the Perspective of Heat,Phlegm,Stasis and Deficiency
Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2025;66(13):1317-1321
To summarise the clinical experience of Professor CHAO Enxiang in treating idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis (IPH) by staging from heat, phlegm, stasis and deficiency. It is believed that IPH has blood-heat and phlegm-stasis, and deficiency of qi and yin as the core pathomechanisms, in which the pathomechanism of acute pulmonary haemorrhage is based on intense blood heat, and modified Shihui Powder (十灰散) is used to clear heat and regulate ying qi (nutrient qi), and reduce fire to settle the collaterals. The pathomechanism of pulmonary haemorrhage in the static stage is based on phlegm-heat obstructing the lungs, and modified Qingfei Dingke Decoction (清肺定咳汤) is used to clear the lungs and dissolve phlegm, harmonize the collaterals to stop haemorrhage. The pathomechanism of acute exacerbation at chronic stage is based on deficiency of qi and yin, and also blood-heat and phlegm-stasis, modified Shengmai Powder (生脉散), Shihui Powder plus Qingfei Dingke Decoction should be used to benefit qi and nourish yin, clear heat, resolve phlegm and eliminate blood stasis. In the chronic prolongation period, the pathogenesis of the disease is based on the deficiency of qi and yin, modified Shengmai Powder may be used to benefit qi and nourish yin, moisten the lungs and rest blood.

Purpose To explore the expression of SHIP2 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and its effect on the malignant biological behavior of ESCC cells. Methods The UALCAN database was used to analyze the expression of SHIP2 in esophageal cancer.qRT-PCR and immunohistochemistry SP method were used to measure the expression of SHIP2 in tumor tissues of ESCC patients.SHIP2 mRNA and protein were examined by qRT-PCR and Western blot in human normal esophageal epithelial cells(HEEC)and ESCC cells(KYSE150 and EC109).KYSE150 and EC109 were divided into the NC group and the si-SHIP2 group respectively.Cell proliferation, migration, and invasion were observed by CCK-8 assay,EdU assay, scratch assay, and Transwell assay. The expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition-related proteins(E-cadherin,N-cadherin,and vimentin)was detected by Western blot. Results The UAL-CAN database showed that SHIP2 expression was higher in esophageal cancer than in normal tissues(P<0.05).SHIP2 had higher mRNA(2.19±3.20)expression and staining scores(5.33±3.83)in ESCC tumor tissues than in paracarcinoma tissues(1.00±0.80;0.87±1.07,all P<0.05).SHIP2 had higher mRNA(KYSE150,EC109:1.91±0.22,3.73±1.06)and protein(KYSE150,EC109:0.93±0.12,1.05±0.13)expression in ESCC cells than in HEEC(1.06±0.40;0.31±0.04,all P<0.05).Cell function experiments showed that compared with the NC group(CCK-8 assay:KYSE150,EC109:2.44±0.12,3.56±0.07;EdU assay:KYSE150,EC109:44.46±4.74,38.82±3.79;scratch assay:KYSE150,EC109:0.85±0.07,0.70±0.06;Transwell migration assay:KYSE150,EC109:130.30±9.53,39.25±3.30;Transwell invasion assay:KYSE150,EC109:121.00±9.54、88.67±6.66);cell proliferation(CCK-8 assay:KYSE150,EC109:1.56±0.03,2.85±0.02,EdU assay:KYSE150,EC109:19.34±6.24,17.39±1.14);migration(scratch assay:KYSE150,EC109:0.51±0.09,0.36±0.02;Transwell migration assay:KYSE150,EC109:71.50±12.07,20.75±2.99),and invasion(Transwell in-vasion assay:KYSE150,EC109:73.33±4.04,12.67±2.31)ability in the si-SHIP2 group was significantly re-duced(all P<0.05).Western blot results showed that compared with the NC group(0.48±0.21,0.42±0.24;1.00±0.04,1.17±0.18;1.34±0.10,1.00±0.13),the expression of E-cadherin protein(1.10±0.22,1.02±0.20)in the si-SHIP2 group was increased(P<0.05),while the expression of N-cadherin protein(0.59±0.20,0.84±0.08)and vimentin protein(0.41±0.06,0.338±0.19)was decreased(P<0.05).Conclusion SHIP2 is overexpressed in ESCC,and the down-regulation of SHIP2 can inhibit the proliferation, migration, and invasion of ES-CC cells.
4.Correlation between beverage dependence and sleep quality among college students
Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(8):1125-1129
Objective:
To explore the relationship between beverage dependence and sleep quality among college students, providing empirical evidence for improving their sleep quality.
Methods:
From December 2024 to January 2025, a convenience sampling method was used to conduct a questionnaire survey among 3 974 college students from four universities in Anhui Province. The Beverage Addiction Scale for College Students (BASCS) was used to assess beverage dependence, and the Self rating Scale of Sleep(SRSS) was used to evaluate sleep quality. A multivariate Logistic regression model was employed to analyze the relationship between beverage dependence and sleep quality, and a restricted cubic spline model was used to examine the dose response relationship between the two.
Results:
The positive rate of beverage dependence symptoms among college students was 7.6%, with positive rates of 9.6%, 13.8%, and 7.4% for the withdrawal symptoms, health effects, and dependence symptoms dimensions, respectively. The detection rate of sleep disorders was 23.6%. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for covariates such as grade, gender, and body mass index, compared with the no beverage dependence group, students with positive beverage dependence symptoms had a higher risk of sleep disorders( OR =3.71, 95% CI =2.87-4.80, P <0.01). The OR (95% CI ) for sleep disorders among students with positive symptoms in the withdrawal symptoms, health effects, and dependence symptoms dimensions were 2.80(2.22-3.53), 2.38(1.95-2.91), and 2.45(1.89-3.18)(all P <0.01). Further analysis using a restricted cubic spline model revealed that the overall beverage dependence score and its three dimensional scores were approximately linearly related to the risk of sleep disorders among college students (all nonlinear P >0.05).
Conclusions
Beverage dependence is associated with sleep quality among college students. Schools should take multiple approaches, such as health education on beverage awareness, to improve students sleep quality.

Objective:To investigate the impact of virtual navigation bronchoscopy on perioperative information in patients undergoing thoracoscopic pulmonary resection. Methods:Employed three distinct propensity score matching models to effectively address the baseline data disparities among patients undergoing thoracoscopic pulmonary resection. Categorized the patients into two groups: pulmonary wedge resection and pulmonary segmentectomy. Compared the disparities in clinical characteristics, intraoperative lesion resection, and postoperative recovery between patients who underwent virtual navigation bronchoscopy assisted localization prior to surgery and those who did not employ any specific localization methods. Results:This reserch included a total of 127 patients who underwent localization assisted by virtual navigation bronchoscopy, and 122 patients who did not undergo specialized localization. After propensity score matching, the navigation group demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in intraoperative blood loss[model 3, 40(20, 50) ml vs. 50(20, 100) ml, P=0.027], drainage volume on the first day post-surgery[model 3, 100(50, 175) ml vs. 150(100, 220) ml, P=0.023], and incidence of residual pleural effusion(model 3, 31 cases vs. 38 cases, P=0.046) compared to the non-positioning group among patients undergoing pulmonary wedge resection. In the pulmonary segmentectomy group, we observed a reduction in intraoperative blood loss[model 3, 50(30, 100) ml vs. 100(50, 100) ml, P=0.003] and incidence of residual pneumothorax(model 3, 18 cases vs. 28 cases, P=0.012) in patients who underwent navigation-assisted procedures compared to those without specialized positioning. Conclusion:The utilization of virtual navigation bronchoscopy for preoperative localization assistance in thoracoscopic sublobectomy(including wedge resection and segmental resection) may represent a viable approach to mitigate intraoperative injury and facilitate postoperative recovery.

Objective To screen and verify the genes that play key role in the occurrence and development of esophageal cancer by u-sing bioinformatics and real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR(qRT-PCR)methods to find new markers for diagnosis of esophageal cancer(ESCA).Methods Using the TCGA database and Wayne plot analysis, the cross genes between the differentially expressed genes of ESCA and the genes which have the most significant impacts on disease-free survival(DFS)rate in esophageal cancer patients were preliminarily identified.Following conducting protein-protein interaction(PPI)network analysis on the overlapping genes,GO and KEGG functional analysis was performed to screen the potential key genes as the diagnostic markers of esophageal cancer.qRT-PCR was used to quantitatively analyze the expression of mRNA of the key gene in peripheral blood.Statistical analysis was con-ducted based on the clinico-pathological characteristics of the patients to determine its potential value as a new diagnostic marker for e-sophageal cancer. Results After overlapping of differentially expressed genes of ESCA and disease-free survival genes in the TCGA database,39 upregulated genes and 20 downregulated genes were found to be differentially expressed, all of which affected disease-free survival rate. After conducting PPI network analysis,15 upregulated genes with core interactions were identified, and the downregulat-ed genes did not form any interaction network.Further enrichment analysis of these 15 core interacting genes through GO and KEGG,revealed that fibronectin 1(FN1)may be a potential biomarker for ESCA diagnosis. The qRT-PCR results showed that compared with the healthy control group, the mRNA expression level of FN1 in the peripheral blood of esophageal cancer patients was significantly ele-vated.After analyzing the clinical characteristics of patients,it was found that the patients with poor differentiation and high clinico-pathological staging had significantly increased peripheral blood FN1 mRNA levels. The model with FN1 mRNA expression levels can distinguish esophageal cancer patients from healthy individuals. Conclusion FN1 mRNA may be a potential non-invasive diagnostic biomarker for esophageal cancer.

Chinese Journal of Information on Traditional Chinese Medicine 2024;31(9):48-57
Objective To train influenza clinical syndrome data using machine learning methods; To obtain an influenza syndrome differentiation model. Methods The medical records of influenza patients who visited the fever clinic of China-Japan Friendship Hospital from December 2019 to March 2022 were collected. The data set system was used for data processing, and the data generated by different data processing processes were stored separately for training. The study selected logistic regression, decision tree, naive Bayes, support vector machine,multi-layer perceptron, lightGBM and random forest as alternative models, and optimized the hyperparameters through Optuna.Models were trained separately in each data set,and the model prediction performance was evaluated, with the macro-F1 score as the core. Results Totally 1 011 training samples were collected, including 453 cases of wind-heat syndrome,152 cases of superficial wind-cold syndrome, and 406 cases of superficial cold and internal heat syndrome;8 data sets were obtained for training, containing 80 copies of data. After training, the macro-F1 scores of logistic regression, decision tree, naive Bayes, support vector machine,multi-layer perceptron lightGBM and random forest model were 0.783 0,0.774 2,0.731 5,0.782 4,0.716 7,0.793 8 and 0.815 3,respectively.Weighted samples could significantly improve the average model performance, while PCA would reduce the average model performance. The prediction performance of the logistic regression model was the best in the single method models, and the random forest model was the best in the integrated method models. Conclusion In the case of a small sample size,it is more appropriate to use logistic regression, decision tree, support vector machine and lightGBM for the TCM influenza syndrome differentiation model. As the sample size increases, logistic regression, support vector machine, lightGBM and random forest may be more suitable.Different data processing methods will affect model performance.Collecting information on the typical degree of syndrome types is beneficial to improving model performance.

Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of intermediate frequency pulse electrical stimulation combined with TCM directional drug penetration therapy in the treatment of patients with lumbar spinal stenosis. Methods:Randomized controlled trial. Totally 90 patients with lumbar spinal stenosis who were treated between July 2018 and December 2021 in the hospital were selected according to randomized controlled trial design, and they were divided into the two groups through the random number table method, with 45 cases in each group. The control group was given non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs+conventional intermittent traction + intermediate frequency pulse electrical stimulation, and the combined group was treated with TCM directional drug penetration therapy on the basis of the control group. Both groups were continuously treated for 1 month. The TCM syndromes were scored before and after treatment, and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was used to evaluate the pain degree. Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were applied to assess the dysfunction degree and quality of life, and the clinical efficacy was assessed. Results:The total effective rate was 95.56% (43/45) in combined group and was 82.22% (37/45) in control group, with statistical significance ( χ2=4.05, P=0.044). The scores of lumbago pain, articular soreness, knee soreness and weakness and impaired activity and total score in combined group after treatment were lower than those in the control group ( t=18.40, 15.81, 15.40, 26.50, 59.575, P<0.01), and the JOA score was higher than that of the control group ( t=5.62, P<0.01), while the ODI score was lower than that of the control group ( t=9.43, P<0.01). The time-point effect and between-group effect of VAS score in combined group were lower than those in the control group with the extension of time ( F=240.00, 17.19, P<0.01), and there was an interaction effect between decrease and treatment method ( F=6.66, P<0.01). Conclusion:Intermediate frequency pulse electrical stimulation combined with TCM directional drug penetration therapy is helpful to relieve the pain, improve the lumbar dysfunction degree and enhance the quality of life and clinical efficacy in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis.
