Aromatic Chinese medicinal essential oils are volatile oils extracted from aromatic Chinese herbs, which can prevent and treat respiratory infectious diseases through multiple synergistic mechanisms including pathogen inhibition, immune regulation, and inflammatory response regulation. Essential oils are primarily used externally on the body to prevent infections and alleviate symptoms through methods like inhalation, smearing, topical application, bathing, gargling or as a suppository. They can also be utilized in the environment for disinfection and air purification, through methods like diffusion, vaporization, or spraying. The external application of essential oils extracted from Chinese aromatic herbs has the advantages of convenience, quick absorption, and simultaneous influence on both the body and mind. However, there are still challenges and deficiencies in aspects such as the positioning of functions, indications, safety, and the research on the mechanism of action. It has been proposed to combine the theory of aromatic Chinese medicinals with the characteristics of essential oils, and formulate prescriptions of Chinese medicinal essential oils under the principles of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation, and prevent and treat respiratory infectious diseases efficiently, accurately, and safely, thereby expanding the clinical application of aromatic Chinese medicinals and the preventive theory of traditional Chinese medicine.

Objective To investigate the prevalence of Schistosoma japonicum infections in wild rodents in schistosomiasis-endemic areas of China, so as to provide insights into formulation of technical guidelines for monitoring of and the precise control strategy for S. japonicum infections in wild rodents during the elimination phase. Methods Two administrative villages where schistosomiasis was historically highly prevalent were selected each from Dongzhi County, Anhui Province, and Duchang County, Jiangxi Province as study villages. Wild rodents were captured from study villages with baited traps or cages at night in June and September, 2021. The number of rodents captured was recorded, and the rodent species was characterized based on morphologi-cal characteristics. Liver tissues were sampled from captured rodents for macroscopical observation of the presence of egg granu- lomas, and S. japonicum infection was detected simultaneously using liver tissue homogenate microscopy, examinations of mesenteric tissues for parasites, and modified Kato-Katz thick smear technique (Kato-Katz technique). A positive S. japonicum infection was defined as detection of S. japonicum eggs or adult worms by any of these methods. The rate of wild rodent capture and prevalence of S. japonicum infections in wild rodents were compared in different study villages and at different time periods, and the detection of S. japonicum infections in wild rodents was compared by different assays. Results The overall rate of wild ro- dent capture was 8.28% (237/2 861) in Dongzhi County, and the wild rodent capture rates were 9.24% (133/1 439) and 7.31% (104/1 422) in two study villages (χ2 = 3.503, P = 0.061), and were 8.59% (121/1 409) and 7.99% (116/1 452) in June and September, 2021, respectively (χ2 = 0.337, P = 0.561). The overall rate of wild rodent capture was 3.72% (77/2 072) in Duchang County, and the wild rodent capture rates were 6.91% (67/970) and 0.91% (10/1 102) in two study villages (χ2 = 51.901, P < 0.001), and were 4.13% (39/945) and 3.37% (38/1 127) in June and September, 2021, respectively (χ2 = 0.815, P = 0.365). Rattus norvegicus was the predominant rodent species captured in both counties, accounting for 70.04% (166/237) of all captured wild rodents in Dongzhi County and 88.31% (68/77) in Duchang County. No S. japonicum infection was detected in wild rodents captured in Duchang County. Nevertheless, the overall prevalence of S. japonicum infections was 51.05% (121/237) in wild rodents captured in Dongzhi County, with prevalence rates of 50.38% (67/133) and 51.92% (54/104) in two study villages (χ2 = 0.098, P = 0.755), and 54.31% (63/116) and 47.93% (58/121) in September and June, 2021, respectively (χ2 = 0.964, P = 0.326). Of 237 wild rodents captured in Dongzhi County, there were 140 (59.07%) rodents with visible hepatic egg granulomas, 117 (49.47%) tested positive for S. japonicum eggs by liver tissue homogenate microscopy, 34 (14.35%) tested positive for S. japonicum eggs with Kato-Katz technique; however, no adult S. japonicum worms were detected in mesenteric tissues. In addition, hepatic egg granulomas were found in all wild rodents tested positive for S. japonicum eggs with liver tissue homogenate microscopy. Conclusions The rate of wild rodent capture and prevalence of S. japonicum infection in wild rodents vary greatly in schistosomiasis-endemic areas of China, and the prevalence of S. japonicum infection is slightly higher in wild rodents captured in autumn than in summer. Liver tissue is recommended as the preferred sample for surveillance of S. japonicum infection in wild rodents, and a combination of macroscopical observation of hepatic egg granulomas and liver tissue homogenate microscopy may be a standard method for surveillance of S. japonicum infection in wild rodents.

Interleukin-11(IL-11)is a multifunctional cytokine that plays a crucial role in various bio-logical processes, including the promotion of hematopoiesis, regulation of the immune system, and facili-tation of tissue repair. These functions highlight its significant importance in both medical research and clinical therapy.Consequently, the precise detection and assessment of IL-11's biological activity are es-sential.The currently employed cell proliferation inhibition assay is cumbersome,time-consuming,and susceptible to interference from Interleukin-6.Here we study the JAK-STAT signaling pathway,a key mechanism of IL-11 actions. We initially establish a stable monoclonal cell line that expresses a luciferase reporter gene responsive to IL-11.We subsequently optimized critical parameters, including the pre-dilu-tion concentration and gradient of IL-11,cell inoculum size, and IL-11 incubation duration.Comprehen-sive validation was undertaken to evaluate accuracy, precision, specificity, stability, and concordance with pharmacopeial methods, ultimately leading to the establishment of a novel reporter gene-based ap-proach for detecting the biological activity of IL-11.This innovative method significantly enhances the de-tection accuracy and sensitivity while reducing the testing time, thereby offering promising prospects for broad applications.

Objective:To explore the relationship among sleep phenotypes, attention deficit and hyperactivity impulsivity (ADHD) symptoms and cognitive information processing in children with ADHD.Methods:A total of 244 children with ADHD aged 6-12 were selected from December 2021 to December 2022.Swanson, Nolan and Pelham rating scale Ⅳ(SNAP-Ⅳ) was used to evaluate the core symptoms of ADHD.Sleep disturbance scale for children (SDSC) was used to evaluate six sleep phenotypes((disorders in initiating and maintaining sleep (DIMS), sleep breathing disorders(SDB), sleep-wake transition disorders(SWTD), disorders of arousal(DA), disorders of excessive somnolence (DOES), and Nocturnal hyperhidrosis(SHY)). Das-Naglieri cognitive function assessment system (DN-CAS) was used to evaluate the cognitive information processing (planning, simultaneous processing, attention and successive processing). Descriptive statistical analysis, Spearman correlation analysis, and mediation analysis were conducted by SPSSAU 23.0 and Zstats software, respectively. Results:Correlation analysis showed that DIMS, SDB, SWTD, DA and DOES were significantly and positively correlated with attention deficit ( r=0.190-0.349, all P<0.01).DIMS(2.14(1.71, 2.57)), SWTD(1.67(1.33, 2.00)) and SHY(2.00(1.50, 3.00)) were significantly positively correlated with hyperactive impulsivity (1.44(1.00, 2.00))( r=0.193, 0.242, 0.133, P<0.05). Attention deficit(1.78(1.44, 2.33)) was significantly and negatively correlated with successive processing(105.00(96.00, 112.00)) ( r=-0.127, P<0.05). The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that after controlling for sex, age, verbal IQ and operational IQ, DIMS ( β=0.152, P<0.05) and SWTD ( β=0.178, P<0.05) had significant positive predictive effects on hyperactive impulsivity symptoms. DOES ( β=0.259, P<0.01) had significant positive predictive effects on attention deficit symptoms. Attention deficit ( β=-0.183, P<0.05) had a significant negative predictive effect on successive processing. Mediation effect analysis showed that attention deficit played a complete mediating role between DOES and successive processing(effect=-0.179, Bootstrap 95% CI=-0.196--0.110). Conclusion:Different sleep phenotypes are associated with ADHD core symptoms and different dimensions of cognitive information processing processes. DOES indirectly affects successive processing capability by attention deficit symptoms.
