China Occupational Medicine 2025;52(3):330-335
Objective To put forward relevant national legislative proposals for preventing workplace violence (WPV) in the healthcare industry by comparing the current legal practices of China and the United States. Methods The Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act (hereinafter referred to as the "Act") of the United States was translated and analyzed. The relevant normative legal documents in China were systematically reviewed to compare the legislative differences in the prevention and control of WPV against health care workers. Results The Act aims to establish an employer-driven legal framework for WPV prevention and control. China has no specific legislation for WPV, but has established partial legislation for protecting healthcare workers from external violence through various legal practices. The "Act" regards WPV as an occupational hazard and adopts the priority control order to carry out the prevention and control of WPV. In contrast, China's legislation for WPV approach emphasizes public security and undermines occupational health, treating WPV merely as a work-related injury or accident with limited protection. This gap reveals divergent priorities for legal interests. Conclusion China should integrate WPV prevention and control into the occupational health legal framework through revising existing laws, advancing dedicated legislation, and ratifying relevant international conventions, to strengthen the occupational health legal system. All stakeholders should clarify the responsibilities for WPV prevention and control of healthcare workers, and ensure comprehensive legislative response.

Objective:To investigate the changes of exam scores of retrained peritoneal dialysis (PD) operators (patients, family members, or nannies) with an internal of one year during COVID-19 epidemic and provide basis for targeted training. Methods:It was a cross-sectional survey study. The maintenance PD patients who participated in two trainings with an interval of one year during COVID-19 epidemic from November 1, 2019 to February 28, 2021 in Department of Nephrology in Peking University People's Hospital were enrolled. During COVID-19 epidemic, retraining was extended from once every six months to once a year. The clinical data were collected, the self-designed training exam score table including theoretical knowledge and operational skills assessment was used to investigate the exam scores of two trainings, and the total exam scores and sub-item scores of PD operators before and after one year were compared. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the associated factors of the reduction of exam scores. Results:A total of 59 patients were enrolled, with 35 males (59.32%), age of (58.41±14.52) years, and dialysis duration of 42 (12, 84) months. There were 54 patients (91.53%) operating by themselves, 22 operators (37.29%) having college degree or above, and 35 operators (59.32%) having decreased exam scores. The total exam scores were 83.17±7.90 and 80.61±8.20 before and after one year, respectively ( t=2.732, P=0.008). In the six contents of itemized scoring, compared with one year ago, the exam scores of complication treatment ( t=4.928, P<0.001) and self-monitoring ( t=3.222, P=0.002) were significantly decreased. There was no statistically significant difference in the exam scores of environment and hygiene, dialysate replacement operation, exit nursing and diet before and after one year (all P>0.05). The total exam scores in patients with dialysis duration <12 months and 36-60 months after one year were significantly lower than before one year ( t=2.309, P=0.041; t=3.086, P=0.009). There was no statistically significant difference in the exam scores of PD operators with dialysis duration of 12-<36 months and >60 months before and after one year (both P>0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that dialysis duration was an independent associated factor of exam scores reduction (dialysis duration 36-60 months/>60 months, OR=6.233, 95% CI 1.035-37.529, P=0.046). Conclusions:During COVID-19 epidemic, the reduced frequency of retraining reduces the training exam scores of PD operators, especially in patients with dialysis duration of 36-60 months. The weak points are focused on complication management and self-monitoring. Training should be strengthened for key patients and key contents if regular retraining is not possible due to special circumstances.

The stimulator of interferon genes(STING),an integral adaptor protein in the DNA-sensing pathway, plays a pivotal role in the innate immune response against infections.Additionally,it presents a valuable therapeutic target for infectious diseases and cancer. We observed that fangchinoline(Fan),a bis-benzylisoquinoline alkaloid(BBA),effectively impedes the replication of vesicular stomatitis virus(VSV),encephalomyocarditis virus(EMCV),influenza A virus(H1 N1),and herpes simplex virus-1(HSV-1)in vitro.Fan treatment significantly reduced the viral load, attenuated tissue inflammation, and improved survival in a viral sepsis mouse model.Mechanistically,Fan activates the antiviral response in a STING-dependent manner, leading to increased expression of interferon(1FN)and interferon-stimulated genes(ISGs)for potent antiviral effects in vivo and in vitro.Notably,Fan interacts with STING,preventing its degradation and thereby extending the activation of IFN-based antiviral responses.Collectively, our findings highlight the potential of Fan,which elicits antiviral immunity by suppressing STING degra-dation,as a promising candidate for antiviral therapy.

BACKGROUND:Abnormal extracellular matrix accumulation and excessive proliferation of fibroblasts are the main manifestations of pathological scars.Excessive proliferation of fibroblasts leads to the production of large amounts of collagen-based extracellular matrix. Therefore,to investigate the role of fibroblast fibrosis in the formation of pathological scar will provide a new idea for revealing the mechanism of pathological scar and biological therapy. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of RAS-selective lethal small molecule 3(RSL3)on the fibrosis of human pathological scar fibroblasts. METHODS:Then cases of pathological scar tissue and normal skin tissue samples from the same individuals, provided by the Department of Burn Plastic Surgery,General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University, were collected.Fibroblasts of human pathological scar and human normal skin were extracted and used in the following experiments. The general condition of the pathological scar tissue and the normal skin tissue was detected by hematoxylin-eosin staining. The appearance of fibroblasts from pathological scar and normal skin were observed by inverted microscope. The fibroblasts were verified by immunofluorescence assay. The cells were treated with different concentrations of RSL3(1,3,5,7,9,11,13 μmol/L).The inhibitory concentration of RSL3 on fibroblasts was detected by cell counting kit-8.Control group(without treatment)and RSL3 intervention group(treated with 7 μmol/L RSL3 for 24 hours)were set up.The mRNA and protein expressions of glutathione peroxidase 4,type Ⅰ collagen, type Ⅲ collagen and α-smooth muscle actin were detected by Qrt-PCR and western blot, respectively.Level of malondialdehyde in cells was detected. The residual scratch area was measured by cell scratch test after 24 hours to calculate the percentage of residual scratch area. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The expression of glutathione peroxidase 4 in the pathological scar group was higher than that in the normal skin group(Mrna:t=3.252,P<0.01;protein:t=5.075,P<0.01).The expression of glutathione peroxidase 4 in the pathological scar fibroblast group was higher than that in the normal skin fibroblast group(Mrna:t=10.32,P<0.01;protein:t=26.22,P<0.01).Compared with the control group, the expression of glutathione peroxidase 4 was decreased(Mrna:t=2.798,P<0.05;protein:t=4.643,P<0.01),the content of malondialdehyde was increased(t=2.917,P<0.05),the expression of type Ⅰ collagen(Mrna:t=15.84,P<0.01;protein:t=4.610,P<0.01),type Ⅲ collagen(Mrna:t=28.86,P<0.01;protein:t=7.713,P<0.01)and α-smooth muscle actin(Mrna:t=2.671,P<0.05;protein:t=7.417,P<0.01)were decreased in the RSL3 intervention group.Compared with the control group, the migration ability was weakened in the RSL3 intervention group(t=14.06,P<0.01).To conclude,RSL3 can inhibit the expression of glutathione peroxidase 4 and then inhibit the ability of fibrosis and migration of pathological scar fibroblasts.

ObjectiveTo explore the characteristics and major factors influencing mental health literacy (MHL) among non-graduating middle school and high school students in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, and to provide a reference for the promotion of mental health literacy among adolescents. MethodsFrom September to October 2023, a stratified random cluster sampling method was used to conduct a questionnaire survey among students from three classes each in non-graduating grades in four middle schools and four high schools in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. The survey included basic demographic information, a Structured Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire (MHLQ), and other psychological scales [Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (ESSA), Perceived Choice Single Scale (PC), Child Depression Inventory (CDI), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), The University of California at Los Angeles 3-item Loneliness Scale (UCLA-3) and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS)]. t-tests, chi-square tests, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and multiple linear regressions were applied for the statistical analysis of the data. ResultsThe mental health literacy average score of 2 094 students was (82.3±15.8) points, with a mean of (4.1±0.8) points. The dimension of belief in mental health rights had the highest score. There were significant differences in the mental health literacy score across different dimensions for students with different household registration, economic levels, academic performance, and father’s education level (P<0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that rural household registration, lower paternal education level, greater academic pressure, a weaker sense of control over one’s behavior, less social support, and symptoms of loneliness, depression, or anxiety were associated with poorer mental health literacy among the students. ConclusionThe mental health literacy of middle school and high school students in Taizhou is generally good, but there are differences among students with different characteristics. Targeted interventions should be carried out for students from rural areas, with poorer mental health, and less low social support to improve the overall mental health literacy of adolescents.

This study was to investigate the relationship between spring pollen distribution concentration, species and the detection results of air-borne pollen allergens in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province during March to May 2022 and March to May 2023.A retrospective study was conducted in the Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Clinic of the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University.Pollen particles will be monitored by gravity sedimentation method on the roof of the outpatient department of the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University in downtown Taiyuan from March to May 2022-2023, and pollen species and quantity will be observed and recorded under an optical microscope. The air-borne pollen allergen detection results of all allergic rhinitis patients in the otolaryngology Head and Neck surgery Department of the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University were extracted from the relevant outpatient system. SPSS software and Pearson correlation analysis were used to compare the correlation between the allergens and the dominant air-borne pollen monitoring results. Results are as follows: (1)A total of 18 species of spring pollen in Taiyuan City were monitored in 2022-2023, with 101 177.5 grains, and the dominant airborne pollen was poplar (16.69%) and pine (29.06%) pollen. The pollen of poplar (11.96%), elm (7.89%) and cypress (8.68%) were dominant in early spring; Pine (25.16%) pollen predominated in late spring. The two peaks of pollen dispersal in Taiyuan were in late March (15 479 grains) and early and mid May (15 094/15 343 grains).(2) The positive rates of allergens in serum specific IgE detection were: wormwood (46%, 248/541 cases), tree combination (26%, 143/541 cases), ragweed (19%, 101/541 cases), humulus scandens (9%, 49/541 cases).(3)There was a linear positive correlation between the positive rate of air-borne pollen allergens in allergic rhinitis patients in the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery in the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University and the dominant air-borne pollen concentration in the same period ( P<0.05, r=0.999). In conclusion, two spring pollen dispersal peaks were formed in late March and early to mid May in Taiyuan City, and the dominant air-borne pollens were poplar and pine pollens. The positive rate of air borne pollen allergen sIgE showed that wormwood allergy was the highest. There was a positive correlation between the concentration of air-borne pollen and the positive rate of air-borne pollen allergens in patients with allergic rhinitis in the Department of otorhinolaryngology and head and neck surgery in Taiyuan in 2022 and 2023.The monitoring of pollen distribution in spring can provide an important scientific basis for clinical workers to formulate prevention and treatment plans for patients with allergic rhinitis in the season, and provide data reference for the epidemiological investigation of allergic diseases in Taiyuan in the future.
